Nine Favorite Things.
Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.
Welcome to the very last day of January! I can’t say that I am particularly excited to say goodbye to yet another month. But then I am so excited for the months ahead. It was a good first month of the year, but it also came with its own set of struggles. Every day I pull open Instagram and I immediately see what appears to be everyone’s perfect ways of living, especially this past month. I’m just going to say it point blank, it can sometimes be annoying. I found myself unfollowing people who were only showing solely the “pretty things” in life.
January is supposed to be all about keeping up with those New Year’s resolutions, organizing every last corner of your house, eating all your greens, and working out daily. There is so much pressure to be your “perfect” self in January. But I’m going to be the first to tell you, my January wasn’t perfect, and I wasn’t able to do ALL the things I’d hoped. Yes, my pantry still could use some serious organization after the holidays. I have a huge deadline looming. And at the moment, I’m not feeling the most confident. We can all talk the talk about being confident, practicing self-care, and doing all the “right” things.
The truth is, I have good and bad days, good and bad weeks, and I’m nowhere near perfect. I definitely don’t sleep nearly enough. I easily fall into the comparison trap. And some days I could probably manage my time much better. But guys, I’m only human, and not every day can be perfect and super productive. I mean, right?
It’s OK to not be on your game 24/7, and it’s OK to just have an off day. One of my favorite things my dad is always saying to me is, “if we didn’t have bad days, we wouldn’t appreciate the good”. This is something he’s been telling me for years. Every bad day I have, I always think back to his words. They make me appreciate those difficult days. Because without them, I wouldn’t love my good days as much as I do.
This is probably more of a pep talk for myself, but I guess my point is that if you’ve had a hard week, or you find that you’re comparing yourself to others on social, or you’re feeling like you’re just not good enough, remember that what you see on the screen is someone’s highlight reel. It’s not always their everyday reality. My biggest tip is to unfollow anyone who’s not serving you in a positive way. Instead, find a few people that really inspire you. And then definitely limit the time on social. I always find it so helpful to only open up my phone once or twice a day, and I almost never scroll through IG. I use it more as a tool to connect with you guys.
And that’s my little end of the month public service announcement. Sorry for going on, but I just wanted to put it out there for any of you that might be feeling down on yourself. Just know that I get it too.
Anyway, aside from all of that, this month was overall pretty great! We celebrated my mom’s birthday, got to spend extra time with family after the holidays, and cooked up a lot of delicious, but healthy recipes.
I might be a little overly enthusiastic, but I really feel like the months ahead are going to be good and bring with them brighter days. Literally…anyone else SO thankful for the longer days? The fact that it stays light out till 5 pm here excites me greatly!
In other news, we said goodbye to two of my brothers this week, Kai and Red. They went off to Aspen for X-Games where they had to be in a “bubble” the entire time. I’m writing this before Red has competed, but I’ll update you next week! My family was hoping to be able to go and watch, but there are no spectators allowed, and there were just too many restrictions. So we’ll be watching on the TV like the rest of the winter sports fans out there!
And in other news, Asher had her first day at the middle school this week. They are only going into school two days and doing zoom another two days, but she’s officially entered middle school. I really wish she would just stop growing up. With things the way they are, school looks very, very different, and she’s not loving it. As someone who struggled my entire life with going to school, I feel her pain. Asher is super lucky since both of my parents are able to work from home. Therefore, they are considering allowing her to home school for the remainder of the year. Curious about you guys with kids, are they back in school full-time, part-time?
And lastly, coming up this week I have a mix and match between easy dinners and game day recipes for this Sunday’s Super Bowl.
1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try…
watching…discovery+. Do you subscribe? They have the new Magnolia network, plus so many other shows. I am doing the free trial and love it so far.
cooking…gumbo. or at least I would like to soon. have you made the gumbo from the HBH Super Simple Cookbook?
loving…our pizza oven. I’ve never used the pizza oven we have in the studio more than I have this year. I’ve been using it to make pizzas, of course. But also lighting it almost every night just for the warmth and the sound of a crackling fire. It’s my favorite thing right now.
reading…Joanna Gaines Takes AD Inside Her TV Kitchen. A short Sunday read, but I just love her stove, island, and all those windows.
listening to…the skinny confidential him and her podcast. Yes, the same podcast as last week, but a new episode. If you need to hear something inspiring and refreshing, listen to this episode, How To Be Productive In 2021 With An Effective Mindset. So on point.
reading…about the enneagram personality test. I’m going to be honest, I’m not a big believer in personality tests, nor have I ever taken one. BUT so many of you guys have asked me in my Q&A’s what my personality number is. Curious if you’ve taken the test and if so, what your thoughts are? If I take the test, what do you think my personality will come up as?
loving…dry brushing. I don’t do this every night, but when I do my skin always feels so fresh and clean.
ordered…flowers. I just ordered a few bouquets and can’t wait for everyone to get them early this week. I LOVE randomly gifting flowers to colleagues, friends, and family.
ordered….face towels. I’ve gotten into the habit of washing my face and removing all my makeup as soon as I walk in the door every night. It feels so good to have clean skin, and almost “wash away” the day. Currently, I just use an everyday washcloth, but I’ve been feeling like I’m almost hurting my skin with my un-gentle towel. I might just be a sucker for pretty things, but I’m excited to get these! I’ll let you know if they are worth it!
loving…these Slip Face Mask. The silk material helps prevent breakouts and I love how soft it feels on my skin.
watched…this video on the benefits of transcendental meditation. I am so interested in learning more on this. Not sure I can do it, but I want to give it a try.
drinking…Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Powder. I always put either this or the Be Well By Kelly Protein Powder in my coffee every morning. The Be Well By Kelly powder is my favorite and even makes the coffee a little creamy on top. I always get unflavored.
inspired by…the Chanel Spring 2021 Show. The ending of the show really got me. It was beautiful, but I’m a sucker for a classic white horse and stunning flowers.
dreaming…of visiting The Breakers. My grandparents used to spend a lot of time in the West Palm Beach area. My grandma and I would spend a day at The Breakers every summer. Dying to go back. It’s one of my favorite vacation spots and brings back the best memories.
question: where are dreaming of traveling to next?
2. The most popular recipes of January.
Most popular: Healthier Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme
Once again, you guys surprised me. Never would have thought this would be so popular, but wow…we’re all really loving the crunchwrap!
Runner-up: 30 Minute Creamy Thai Turmeric Chicken and Noodles
My personal favorite! I love this one. So much color and flavor!
Also have to mention: 5 Minute Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread Mug Cake
SO excited you guys love this recipe! I wasn’t sure if I should share it because of how simple it is, but I’m so happy I did!!
Ok. Last one: Folded Crispy Buffalo Chicken Wraps
3. Cozy Winter Home…
4. Favorite questions of the week.
q: What are your favorite brands of jeans?
a: I love RE/DONE, Frame, and Slvrlake Denim. And I don’t have them yet, but I’ve got a pair of Agolde sitting in my cart. Anyone else leave their favorite pieces sitting in shopping carts just waiting to buy them until it’s too late and then they’re sold out?? Cause that’s me.
q: Would you ever want to go back to fashion design school?
a: No! I love what I’m doing now more than anything, and we’ve got so many exciting things in the works!! I’m genuinely just so excited to keep growing HBH and doing new things! I’ll always love fashion, but the good news is that I can still have fun with that pretty much every single day 😉
q: What are the best kitchen gifts to give for someone who loves to cook?
a: If they don’t have one, a Staub skillet is a must in any kitchen!! If you’re looking to spoil them, a stand mixer never ever disappoints. For something at a lower price point, an online cooking class goes a long way and there are so many great ones being offered right now.
q: How do you stay so slim cooking all that delicious food?
a: I think it’s super important to remember that everyone’s bodies are different. We’ve all got different genes, so you shouldn’t compare one person to another, you know? That said, I hike every day, then work in the kitchen all day long, so I’m pretty active most of the time. And also, I’m not shoving cookies in my face 24/7 just a taste here and there! Everything in moderation. I try to stick to normal meals.
q: How did you master food photography?
a: If you ask me, I still have not mastered food photography. But with years and years of shooting food at least 5 days a week, I slowly got better. Over time I learned how to shoot certain foods, honed in on my style, and how to best use the natural light (I don’t use any form of lighting, just daylight). Everything gets better/easier with practice, so just keep working at it and you’ll improve!
Oh, and Google anything you don’t know, take an online class, or in my case, ask your brother everything because he’s usually got the answers. Thanks for putting up with me Malachi!
Also, I still have days when I don’t like what I have photographed. I think you guys would be really surprised just how often I reshoot recipes before you even see them. Food is a changing subject, most of the time it gets uglier and uglier as it sits, so it’s a hard subject to work with daily!
5. Where I’m Getting Design Inspiration…
I’ve been following Colin King for a while, but when I came across the above photo, I stumbled down the rabbit hole of all his work. So inspired by the beautiful spaces he has styled.
(all photos via Colin King)
6. A Few Favorite Skincare and Beauty Products.
Skincare
Augustinus Bader Cleansing Balm – I throw this on my face as soon as I get home to wipe away any makeup. It’s super soothing and gentle.
iS Clinical Cleansing Complex – once my skin is makeup-free, I’ll cleanse with this face wash. It’s a tried and true favorite that I’ve used for well over a year now. I love it.
Biossance Squalane + Elderberry Jelly Cleanser – I like to rotate my cleansers every few days. This is another favorite that is a little more on the affordable side, but just effective.
Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum – this is a splurge for sure, so I use it minimally, but I swear by it. I’ll throw this on after using their Active Treatment Essence.
Mutha Face Oil – another splurge, but I like to use this as the last part of my routine. It’s meant to lock in moisture.
Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil – my favorite for everyday use. I’ll use this more in the morning since it has vitamin C.
TATCHA Dewy Skin Concentrate – I have other products from TATCHA that I love (their body butter is one of my favorites), but this one is on repeat these days for winter skin.
Biossance Squalane + Omega Repair Cream. I use this almost every single day. It’s another tried and true favorite. I also love their eye cream.
Augustinus Bader Hand Cream – my hands are so dry, but this is helping! I put it on at night before bed to lock in moisture.
Lastly, I’m still using and loving all my Necessaire products daily. Their Body Exfoliant, Body Wash, and Body Lotion are all go-to’s. Necessaire has the best affordable clean beauty products.
Beauty
Ilia Super Serum Skin Tint – I mix this with this Kosas Tinted Face oil, but also love both on their own. This give a nice matte finish.
Kosas Tinted Face Oil – provides the perfect dewy base and feels good all day long on my skin.
Kosas 10-Second Liquid Eyeshadow – obsessed with this. It creates the perfect, subtle eyelid.
Kosas The Big Clean Mascara – for perfect lashes, try this. I love it!
Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows Eyebrow Gel – brows are my pet peeve. I love a thick brow, so excited to try this. I just got it this week, but I’m loving it.
Kosas Moisturizing Baked Bronzer – makes me look alive…honestly, I’m pasty otherwise.
Kosas Brightening Concealer – covers any blemishes perfectly.
Question: What are your favorite skincare and beauty products? Anything I should try?

First thing about IG… I completely agree. I go through my follows every now and then and get rid of accounts I find aren’t relevant to me any longer. We’re living in an unusual time and I’d like to see more of the “we’re all in this together”… more authentic and to see how others coping. And a huge YES to Discovery+!!! I couldn’t wait for it to start and I’m thoroughly enjoying it… especially “Magnolia Table”. Joanna makes “bloopers” and I love seeing that authenticity. I like seeing that I’m not the only person who’s struggling some days.
Hey Emie,
Thanks so much for reading along and sharing your feedback! So glad I am not the only one who feels this way! Have a great week:) xTieghan
That Collin King space with the exposed beam, with tree and wall of windows is so so stunning! Thank you for sharing his spaces, so inspiring!
Happy to share Becca! xTieghan
To be imperfect ….. is perfect. Be your own shining star and keep on truck in’!
Thanks Karen! xTieghan
Sending you hugs. My January has not been perfect either what with covid, lockdown, tension and stress and that was all in one week. I also agree and like you go through IG and FB sometimes and delete stuff, some of it is not unrealistic or trying to teach you how to suck eggs. One positive that has kept me going through January are your wonderful recipes of which I tried some new ones, some of which I did remember to take a photo and #tag in IG and FB, so a huge thank you to you. You’re recipes are going down a treat with my partner and I. It’s nice to see that you also have some ‘go to’ beauty and skincare products. My ‘go to’ skincare products are from a company called Pai in London. I have sensitive as well as rosy skin and I spent years looking for skincare products that were gentle and calming. Stay safe and have a good week 🙂
Hey Colleen,
Thanks so much for reading along and your kind message! I am so glad you have been enjoying the recipes:) Also, thanks for your recommendation on skincare! xTieghan
What a perfect introduction. Thank you for being real. As a mom struggling during the lockdown with a son trying to be online for almost a year, this was a great way to start my Sunday! Good, bad and ugly, onward we go!
Thanks so much for reading Lisa! Sending positive vibes! xTieghan
I love love love following you! You have given me so many healthy ideas! Thank you!
I would encourage you to look very closely at some of your skincare product ingredients.. many blushes and anything pigmented can have heavy metals.

Hello! First time commenting here, but I wanted to take a moment to say how much I enjoy reading Nine things every week.Your opening this week really struck a chord.
“It’s OK to not be on your game 24/7, and it’s OK to just have an off day. One of my favorite things my dad is always saying to me is, “if we didn’t have bad days, we wouldn’t appreciate the good”.”
It’s great that your family has been able to share this wisdom with you. Self-compassion for myself during difficult times has been something I’ve really had to work on, and it’s something I recommend for everyone, especially during these pandemic times. Most of us are just doing the best we can all the time, and it’s unrealistic to think that we’ll always be “killing it” like toxic positivity preaches. It’s better for our well-being to be able to give ourselves a break.
I look forward to your posts to come!
Hey Jillian,
Thanks so much for reading along, I am so glad you have been enjoying the Sunday posts as much as I have! xTieghan
Thank you for your honesty! I have tried to spend less time on social media….today’s political and social environment can be brutal and I find it deeply effecting my mental well being.
I feel for Asher! My five kids are finally all back in person 5 days and each child handles it differently. It has been a huge adjustment with masks and distancing but overall I they are doing well and it’s good for them. However it is really important to take into account each child’s needs. Starting middle school is hard enough let alone in the middle of a pandemic!
I will say your IG stories and posts and recipes have brought much needed joy in my life over the last year so thank you!
Hey Kate,
Thanks so much for reading today, wow I can’t imagine how difficult school must be with 5 kids during this time. Sending positive thoughts your way! xTieghan
So there is a quote that I always say to myself when I start comparing. “Comparison is the thief of joy.” It really is and when I think of that quote, I stop myself. Not easy though. And totally agree with social media. Too much of it can really cause depression.
Also, I get up every Sunday excited to read this newsletter. You are extremely talented and a wonderful kind person. So don’t compare yourself to anyone, you are doing just fine.
Keep doing what you are doing!! You are fabulous!
Hey Lisa,
I absolutely love this quote, so true! Thanks for your kind message and reading along! xTieghan
Oh how I appreciate your honestly. And I think this January was different than any other I’ve ever lived through… while I have goals, I feel like I am slowing my roll and tip-toeing towards them and trusting in the slower process and knowing it’s OK. And I completely hear you on instagram- I’ve done the same and have started following more accounts that just make me smile, laugh, or feel understood and real! And your pep talk is working on me, too, today- I got a glimpse of my belly in the mirror yesterday and immediately started beating myself up, but I am going to stop that and proactively work on it at my own pace and appreciate the steps along the journey.
That video on TM- so powerful and I think it should be added to schools everywhere.
Beauty: Just started using Tower 28 cheek balm in magic hour and LOVE it. I don’t like much makeup, and this is light and just gives your cheeks life.
Always love the links you share- obsessed with those sconces in Vanessa Carlton’s black and white bathroom!!!
Off to start your slow cooker bean chili… it’s gross and cold and rainy here today, so a perfect day to cozy up with it.
Thanks for all you do!
Hey Cassie,
Thanks so much for reading along and sharing your positive feedback, I am so glad I am not the only one feeling this way this year. Thanks for your feedback on the cheek balm, I hope you love the slow cooker bean chili! xTieghan
As you dream and plan for a new bathroom, one thing I wish we did when we did ours a few years ago was heated flooring. It can be pricey, but we did a complete overhaul without changing the size of the room, added a big open shower area (removed a tub), new double sink & vanity, new window, new tile surrounds flooring. In retrospect we were spending enough we really should have added the heated floor. We live in a cold winter area like you. Anyone that has had it doesn’t regret it. But I love our new bathroom. So please keep it in mind!
Hey Deb,
Thank you so much for your feedback on the bathroom, this is so helpful! Heated floors are key, we have them in all of our homes here in Colorado:) xTieghan
I am a farm wife and mama to 5: 17, 16, 14, 12 and 9, and we live in PA. In response to your question about schooling…our public school district changes almost bi-weekly. Currently they are on a hybrid schedule, like Asher. 2 days in school, and 2 days at home via online. After our experience, last spring, lining up 5 kids on their chromebooks, I decided I was not going to do that again. Soooo…I opted to homeschool all 5 this year. It is a lot, but I know it was right for our family, during this crazy, unprecedented season. It is a hot crazy mess down in here some days, but overall, I think my kids are learning more here, and are not subject to all the last minute changes they would be at school this year. All that to say, tell your parents to GO FOR IT with Asher. I am sure she would do great at home!!
~Melissa.
Hey Melissa,
Wow! Way to go, that is so awesome you are doing this for your kids, I am sure it was not an easy decision to make. Thanks so much for reading along and your kind message! xTieghan
Thank you for being real and raw. Love you even more! I had to pipe in and share my fav jeans….R13. Italian made and the absolute cutest and most comfortable. Compliments all day long! Check them out!
Thanks for sharing your favorite skin care items. Some great brands, for sure! You can check out my little on line skin care store. Organic and all plant based! https://thenutrientnurse.com/. Have a fabulous week and happy cooking!
Hey Terrie,
Thanks so much for reading along and sharing your fave jeans and skincare, super helpful!! xTieghan
Hi Tieghan,
A thoughtful post as always! Your thoughts about Asher and school are top of mind for me. I am a high school teacher (in Ohio!) and our school has been in the hybrid model, which is the some days in and some days online, all online and all in person at various points this year. As a teacher, it has been a challenge to be able to deliver content effectively in several different formats. As I talk to students, each seems to have their preference and the hybrid may be the best as it combines the best of both. I worry about social skills and problem solving when students are all online – and that the world will be like when the leaders will be the students who did not get exposure to either of those. Leaders and teachers in education need to take a look at what is working and what is not, and we need to quickly address how to make it the best it can be. This year has had so much turmoil that I think that is getting lost. And that there are many definitions of success – and being a “good student” is defined in many ways!
Hey Susan,
Thanks so much for reading along and sharing your school experience this year. I can’t imagine being a teacher during this time, but know your time and efforts are not unnoticed! Wishing you a great semester:) xTieghan
As it’s not pertinent to my career, I choose not to participate in social media but will say that it seems people spend more time on creating the facade of a perfect life than actually living their lives (I’ve seen women spend 20+ minutes getting the perfect shot on a boat than actually enjoy being outside on the boat!). I suspect that the reason you have such a successful brand and following is the fact that you are one authentic and real gal – you don’t edit out the messiness that is life. Outside of your yummy recipes, I know that’s why I follow your blog and reading your Sunday post is the first thing on my morning routine. Stay you, girl – you’re pretty rad.
Hey Carrie,
Thanks so much for reading along and your super kind message! Have a great week:) xTieghan
Hi Tieghan! I have 3 kids who all have different schooling arrangements currently. My 12 year old is happy to be back in person full time but during home school he spent many afternoons cooking and baking your recipes. He is on the autism spectrum and finding something like this for him has been such a gift. Not only does he love attempting the recipes but he is really good at it! Now he mostly cooks/bakes on the weekend due to school but he plans his recipes throughout the week 🙂 Thank you for sharing all your hard work and inspiration with us! So grateful!
Hey Mary,
Thanks so much for reading along today! This really makes me so happy to know your son has been enjoying the recipes, that is just so awesome! Have a great week:) xTieghan
I look forward to this every week!!! Thank you for taking the time to put together this content, so enjoyable! And hope Red kills it today in Aspen.
Thanks so much for your kind message Natalie! xTieghan
In March when our daughter’s college went to online classes she came home & had us start making HBH recipes. We bought the Super Simple cookbook and have cooked our way through it as well as your recipes on the Blog. Finally, the guys in our household know who Tieghan or what HBH is!! Recently, our son living in Holland has been using your recipes too. We are big fans! And while I could go into my view of living imperfectly I will just answer the question you asked….we have made the Gumbo recipe multiple times and really love it! Your recipes are straight forward to make and delicious! Thank you for sharing them with us!
Hey Dawn,
I am so glad to hear your family has been enjoying the recipes! The gumbo is a family fave over here for sure! Have a great week:) xTieghan
Keep up the hard work Asher, I know firsthand how hard school is for even the best of students this year. Former school teacher here, I am currently getting paid by the sweetest family to homeschool 3 boys in 4th and 7th grade in fort collins. it is going really well for us. They are learning far more and getting to study more things that interest them this year. I’m not normally a home school advocate, but it really is a great option this year. If your family needs any help with starting homeschooling I would be happy to provide some tips and resources I have found. my email is listed in the other section. (I think) happy schooling to you!
Hey Ella,
Thanks for your kind message! What an awesome opportunity for those boys and you! Have a great week:) xTieghan
January!! You hit the nail on the head. My motto since fall has been ‘low expectations’. It has served well until this month. January has just been low for everything so it’s trying to find joy, positivity and light and removing negativity. While I still need to remind myself that we can’t expect to be able to do the things we could in 2019, and I need to set the bar low, my new motto is ‘It’s getting brighter each day!’ Literally and figuratively. Keep smiling! And my project this month was to overhaul social media. No negatively. No following without a purpose. Keep it simple. I wasn’t following you, anywhere, except two dozen pins I had gathered. I’m so glad to follow you now, this whole post made me smile!
Hey there,
Thanks so much for reading along today! I love the motto “It’s getting brighter each day”, thanks for sharing! xTieghan
Your discussion about perfect lives and good days/bad days as related to this January – I broke my left/dominant wrist on January 1st, had surgery to put a plate in on the 13th. it is healing well, but I won’t be able to go back to work for at least 3-5 weeks. I had grand plans to get moving on my design business and start creating this month. I’ve been looking for ways to be productive and positive. I am thankful to have my 27 yo son living with me, I found videos from one of my mentors that have focused me on what I want to create when I can draw again, and I just got my appointment for my first vaccine!
As for make-up, I haven’t used any since the middle of last March when my company went on furlough. When we went back and have to wear masks all day – it didn’t make sense to use it.
I can’t wait to try some of your new recipes when I can cook again! Tiramisu cake, crispy buffalo chicken (or cauliflower) wraps to name but two.
Your emails have also been a positive this month, even (maybe especially) when you’re sharing your not so positive moments. Thank you!
Hey Carol,
Thanks so much for reading today, so sorry to hear about your wrist! I hope you love the recipes and thanks for following along! xTieghan
Tieghan, I always love these posts, but today’s opening thoughts are maybe my favorites of what you’ve shared here over the years. Thank you for being so honest about not feeling confident and getting annoyed when people pretend everything is 100% super.
Hey Nan,
Thanks so much for reading along and sharing your feedback:) So glad I am not the only one feeling this way! xTieghan
Am love love loving your vision and work and authenticity and all you inspire! Its like a special weekly visit with one of my nieces! Yes…you have been adopted!
Thanks so much Nina! xTieghan
Hi Tieghan,
I have some pomegranate syrup (used it in the sticky ginger chicken & brussels sprouts and it was amazing) and I was wondering if you have any cocktail recipes calling for pomegranate syrup.
Hey Mara,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, here are a few recipes to use the pomegranate syrup in:

Let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Good Morning.
Spelling correction. CHANEL and not Channel
Thanks.
Hey,
Totally agree with your social media thoughts. It is insta-brag for so many.
It has been traced to more teen -tween anxiety and depression.
It has its place and needs to stay there!

Thanks so much for reading along Chris! xTieghan
Tiegen ~ As a mum myself, you do an extraordinary fantastic job! Yes, we all have good and bad days, that’s life. When our wonderful son was 19 he was diagnosed with a horrific ( aren’t they all ) cancer. It taught us many things, but mostly, to be uber grateful for the people in our lives. We are so thankful for our family and friends. Since, I don’t take a day for granted. We had a horrific car accident bringing his car home from college ( grateful we both survived ) 6 months into his treatment. So when I see stuff on social media that people post ( it’s all perfect ) it’s almost laughable. I think when you peeps are trying to find their way, social media can play a very damaging game on ones psyche. Keep up your terrific work and positivity….you are awesome.
Hey there,
Thank you so much for reading along and sharing your experiences. Going through tragedies such as those I am sure give you a different outlook on life. I hope you have a great week:) xTieghan
Thank you so very much for your helpful thoughts, encouragements, directing us to further ourselves be it meditation or taking care of our skin and bodies. Thank you so very much for your fabulous recipes. Thank you so very much for just being! Live! Laugh! Above all, Love!
Judi
Thanks so much for your kind message Judi!! xTieghan
So sorry to hear about Asher’s first year in middle school in a global pandemic. That is not fun or easy. I am teaching 3rd grade in person 4 days a week with 20 third graders in Utah, and while I am grateful to be able to teach in person, it has just been a very bizarre year. We make the best of it every day, and have been lucky with containing the virus in our school. But it is challenging in ways we never had imagined. One of the things that has really kept me going, in addition to a supportive family and husband and a bunch of really amazing 8 yr olds is my weekly weekend recovery that includes your 9 favorite things! I look forward to it every Sunday and get excited to try some new recipes and see all the beautiful things you create and photograph. It really is like a little private mini vacation and it is a safe place to just forgot everything else and immerse myself in beautiful things. Thank you for being a little sanctuary and an escape for just a few minutes every week to help me recharge to take on what ever may be coming next. I bet you didn’t know how helpful you were! Thank you Tiegahn! This week I will be making Crunchwraps!
Hey Rachel,
Thanks so much for reading along each Sunday and your kind message:) I can’t imagine what it must be like teaching this year, but I am sure your students and parents are so grateful for you! Wishing you a great semester:) xTieghan
Your humility in today’s post was so refreshing, especially in light of your age and success! To know a person like you has a bad day or feels a little lost sometimes makes others feel less alone and maybe not be so hard on themselves!! Thank you for not only providing AMAZING recipes that make me feel like I could be a chef but for being such a nice person!!
Hey MaryEllen,
Thanks so much for reading along and your super kind message:) xTieghan
Wow! I just took that personality test and I wish I didn’t, lol! I’m not sure whether to laugh it off totally or go take a nap and ponder what I am missing out on in life because apparently I’ve been playing things way too safe and I’m a bit dependent? I never thought that about myself! Don’t take it, lol lol lol! 😝 😂 (My score was a 4.8 which doesn’t really mean a lot, it just shows you a pie chart of traits that you may have).
Hey Marianne,
LOL too funny! I wouldn’t take it too seriously:) Have a great week! xTieghan
P.S. loved today’s post. I can benefit from adopting some of those coping skills too. Also I love the comment somebody made that comparison is the thief of joy. That’s a really good one to commit to memory!
Thanks so much!
Oh Tieghan! You must’ve been really in a funk when you wrote this. I have never heard you sound so down about things. I never compare or compete with anybody. But, I think that comes with age. As you get older, you will find you won’t care what anyone does, or says or what they have or don’t have. I just love looking at all the different idea’s on IG, Not once have I ever felt that anything anyone posts is actually the way they live. Honestly, I don’t care. I just enjoy it.
Hey Colleen,
Thanks so much for reaching along and your kind message! xTieghan
Your Nine Things posts are a highlight of my Sundays now! Thank you for all you share!
Thanks so much Lauren:) xTieghan
LOVE, read and devour your Sunday posts. I look forward to it every week and literally spend at least 2 hours going through it/all the links. Thank you! First time posting but while looking at the inside of refrigerators, i decided it would be cool to see yours. Are you naturally organized with your fridge? Seen the pantry but now we need to see the fridge.
Hey there,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading along:) LOL no it is not usually super organized:) xTieghan
My grandparents used to live in WPB and my cousin got married at the Breakers. It’s so nice! I wish I could vacation like that all of the time.
I moved to Australia for a year to escape covid, and I’m hoping to visit EVERY WHERE on the way back! I miss NYC the most.
My kids were doing virtual school but now they get to go to school safely and we are all much happier.
Hey Lanie,
Thanks so much for reading along, thanks for sharing your story of the Breakers:) Wow, what an amazing move, I hope you are loving Australia! xTieghan
Asher is adorable! Is that your pup with her? I second the question on food photography. That’s something that I’m working on learning. It’s certainly a hard subject, but you make it look out of this world! What are some of your favorite set up and props to use? Hope your week is off to an amazing start!
Hey Kate,
Thanks so much for reading along! The dog is my parents:) I get a lot of my props from vintage stores, super unique! xTieghan
Tieghan! You are such a bright light on the IG landscape. As a Clevelander, I’d follow you no matter what, but your narrative and your links are infinitely entertaining. You’ve authored recipes that have become instant classics in our home. Thank you for being so authentic.
PS I can’t seem to find the lovely mug pictured in your 9 Things post.
Hey Nora,
Thank you so much for your kind message and reading along:) Here is the link for the mug: https://api.shopstyle.com/action/apiVisitRetailer?id=839501302&pid=uid3696-43323264-41&aid=43237426&utm_content=productwidget%3A60164fe22b88824770029bb0&utm_medium=referral
Let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I just have to say, I love how down to earth and humble you are, even though you are so immensely talented and successful.
For years I have been trying to explain to my daughter about the social media “perfect life” that no one is having, but many are portraying.
Aside from loving your recipes, I really enjoy reading about your relationship with Asher; she is so blessed to have a big sister that is so connected to her and such a great example to follow as she grows.
Hey Sandra,
Thanks so much for your super kind message and reading along:) xTieghan
Tieghan you are a stellar friend to all of us who are like me I bet (fists propping up chin glaring onto screen) hanging on your every raw written word. Thank you for sharing your daily walk through life right now. You are not afraid to leap into new adventures or peek around corners, or just relax and be real. I appreciate that uniqueness you have to communicate fellowship through your blog and recipes. I no longer am on any social platform, but I do follow you here. I have converted as many of your recipes as I possible could for my gluten/dairy/soy intolerances this year. I forage my pantry, fridge and herb garden( ok, it’s a few pots straining for sunlight…but it’s “my garden”) for items to create our meals. My husband has benefited the most! He did a little dance after tasting the sheet pan chicken with citrus avocado salsa last night, it was fantastic! He told me you can make that anytime you want, please. (thank you Tieghan, consider yourself hugged!♥)
I also want to recommend a PRO-salon line for you to look into for your hair…Maria Nila. It’s a Swedish brand and it is 100% vegan and cruelty free. (PETA,leaping bunny,Vegan Society, and all packaging is through Plan Vivo) I use it and don’t have to worry about hair loss, lack luster strand/ scalp health, or our environment. I no longer colour my hair but they do carry multiple products for colour-treated hair too if you need them. It’s true, “Comparison is the thief of joy…..”I wrote that on my mirror in 2013 and it’s still reminding me today.
Hey Cameran,
Thank you so much for your super kind message and reading along! I am so glad your family has been enjoying the recipes and I truly appreciate you making them:) xTieghan
Thank you for sharing your great recipes 😋 For Christmas and New Years we made chicken marsala, so nummy! Last night we made creamy red pepper tortellini, delish!! This weekend I’m making the vanilla tiramisu cake for my birthday 🎉 And your tater tot hotdish is super!! My 84 year old father made chicken marsala for his lady friend❣️ I love seeing what you post!! You are awesome!!
Hey Julie,
Thanks so much for reading along and trying so many recipes! xTieghan
Trying to talk my mom and dad into the green cabinets for our new kitchen for a cabin we are (re)building after losing it to the Oregon fires. We had it for almost 50 years!
Hey Erin,
So sorry to hear about your cabin! I hope you get those green cabinets:) xTieghan
Tieghan, thank you so much for sharing about feeling down this time of year. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been feeling this way recently. I think with us all being home all the time, not seeing as many people, we can so easily get sucked in to that comparison game and wondering why our lives aren’t as perfect as anyone else’s “seems” to be! You’re right, it’s okay to have off days and it’s okay to not have a perfectly clean home and it’s okay to not be okay. This time of year can feel so stuck. Thankful for the energy that a new month brings us.
Thanks for all you do to share your amazing recipes. I’ve developed so much in my cooking skills thanks to you. Love these weekly Nine Favorite Things post – in fact, I save them in my inbox as “unread” until I have time to truly savor them.
Appreciate all you do and sending love your way!
Hey Kelly,
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading along and sharing your positive feedback:) I am so glad you have been enjoying the recipes and Sunday posts as much as I do! xTieghan
Hang in there Tieghan. We all go through this. I think younger people are putting so much pressure on themselves. I see it in my 20 something children. The pandemic has changed lives so drastically. I hope everyone can focus on what’s important: health, family (or family substitutes), and finding joy in the small things. Being comfortable in one’s skin is so important but hard to achieve. It comes with age (and really sagging skin!!) so be patient with yourself and know that so many of your followers are dazzled daily by your creativity, innovation and dedication even if we are insanely jealous of that kitchen!!
Hey Janet,
Thanks so much for your kind message! You are so right, thanks for your advice:) xTieghan
You are the best! One of my “new year’s resolutions” is to try a new recipe each week, and in January we tried at least 8 of your recipes that I can’t wait to cook again and again! We even made your Caesar salad twice!
Hey Annabel,
Thanks so much for reading along! I am so glad you have been enjoying the recipes:) xTieghan
