Nine Favorite Things.
Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.
Happy fall! Yes, it’s official, I can now talk about how excited I am for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I’m a holiday freak and the next three months are my favorite of the entire year. So very excited for all the spooky Halloween treats and cocktails this coming October.
What are you guys most looking forward to? Dying to hear what your favorite elements of fall are!
In other news, this week has been non-stop and I’m not going to sugar coat it, I’m a little tired and a little stressed as I type out today’s Sunday post. I spent the first part of the week in NYC for a quick work trip, with and event Monday night, and meetings both Monday and Tuesday. I got suck in the airport for a few too many hours (delayed in Newark due to storms) and arrived home late Tuesday night.
On Wednesday I hit the ground running, unpacking and attempting to organize the new studio space. We’ve made a dent, but honestly, we’re not even close to being organized. Thursday and Friday were my first days cooking, photographing, and testing new recipes in the new studio kitchen. I’m trying to a get used to a new kitchen, and new lighting for photos. I know these adjustments are just going to take time, but it’s been challenging, especially with the work load we have right now.
Of course on the flip side, the studio is AMAZING, and I know over time I will find a good grove, find the perfect window for lighting, and get back to feeling good again, but right now it’s a slightly overwhelming adjustment. Saturday was spent organizing props and playing with the light, so hoping to have a better hang of things today. Fingers crossed!
Anyway, that’s a glimpse into what’s happening around here. Complete chaos, but holding it together…kind of of.
Oh, and for those asking about whether or not we will be doing a full studio tour, yes, we will! It will mostly like happen late October or November. We still have lots to get done in the space before we are ready to share, but soon!
Coming up this week on HBH I’ll be sharing a new savory pastry recipe, some of the best fall inspired pork chops, and a brand new pumpkin recipe…just in time for the first week of October.
If you missed anything from this past week, be sure to sign up for our newsletter here. Hope you all are having the best fall weekend, and enjoy this Sunday’s Favorites!

2. The Best thing My Mom Ever Taught Me…
If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
I get negative comments and messages fairly often, it just comes with the territory, and I usually brush them off and move right along with my day. That said, after receiving a not so kind comment this past week, on a day that was already hard, it put me over the edge and I let it bother me and sink into my thoughts the rest of the day. I’m 100% over it now, but just a friendly reminder that if you don’t have anything nice to say, there’s absolutely no point in saying it at all. It’s one of the the simplest lessons my parents taught us while growing up, and it’s also one of the most important.
Don’t bring others down.
3. Favorite Halloween Decor…
Halloween is one of my favorite holiday’s and I LOVE decorating for it. Here are my picks for this Halloween.
4. My Autumn Bucket List.
- actually decorate for fall…with autumn flowers, pumpkins, and my favorite candles.
- go to a pumpkin patch and pick out all my favorite odd looking pumpkins.
- make homemade apple cider, apple butter, and apple cider doughnuts…again and again.
- plan a Halloween movie night and watch all the classics…Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town, and Harry Potter.
- apple picking with the family…
- then make caramel apples…it’s been years since I’ve made caramel apples. it’s time.
- splurge on a new pair of fall boots.
- walk through central park to see the leaves…I’m back in the city in November and have to do this.
- make my favorite pumpkin spice oatmeal latte, and share a mug with my mom for a cozy mid day break.
- get crafty and make homemade candles…because I love them so much
- plan Thanksgiving before November even starts to stay ahead of the craziness.
- stop and smell the pumpkins…because things are busy and sometimes I just need to enjoy the moment.
Question: what’s on your fall bucket list?!

Autumn is my top favorite season, so I’m all about EVERY element of it, haha. But of course the beautiful foliage and cozy sweaters are my favorite; and of course Halloween!
Wishing you way less stress and way more “me time” so you can relax amidst the busyness. Hang in there! xx
YES! Thats the best! Thank you so much Liz!
Another amazing Favorites post!! Your blog is stunning!! I have complete respect for you in putting yourself out there! I’ve shied away from blogging because I’m not sure I could handle some of the negativity out there. Keep doing the amazing work you do and keep being strong!! ? P.S. LOVING your cookbook, too!
Thank you so much Rosa! I am so glad you are enjoying my blog! This comment is so sweet!
Your mom taught you so well. She is right and thank you for reminding us of that. My mother used to say the same thing to me. Little comments with negativity send me into spirals sometimes, so I can absolutely relate. I truly enjoy your blog, your genuine nature, and your honesty. It is very fresh. You are driving me crazy with all these amazing pumpkin and pumpkin spice recipes….I am not a freak about the pumpkin spice, but I definitely love it. Not sure why I allocate it to the fall. My daughter is so funny…she allowed herself to have a PSL yesterday in honor of fall. That’s it…she says they are too sweet for her, but she has to have that ceremonial pumpkin spice latte. Cheers….and although autumn is a gorgeous time of year….I am usually sad this time of year because of the the decreasing daylight and the fact that the cold, dreary, gray of winter will be here and stay too long for me. Meanwhile, thank you for your hard work and dedication and for being a bright spot in my email.
Thank you so much Karen! And I love that she had one, they are sweet but pumpkin is the best for Fall! I do not like when the sun sets earlier as well, but try to enjoy the beautiful day while its going on!
Your posts are beautiful and you are a talented and an amazing person. My mother also taught me, if you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all. It’s a good rule to live by.
I love that! Thank you Janet!
Great Pinterest picks!!

Thank you Tracy!
Absolutely LOVE your posts, the daily emails and recipes! You are one of a kind!
First of all I can’t imagine ANYONE would have anything negative to say about you or this insanly amazing talent you have. Please don’t let the insecurities of others and their inability to appropriately communicate effect you. You are so much better then that. You cannot please everyone and that’s okay. Their loss, not yours. XO
I received your cookbook for my birthday and I’m obsessed!! Can’t wait to start cooking!
Thank you so much Kristen! I hope you love all the recipes in the book and let me know what you try!
I love your blog! Keep up the great work.

I love Fall and just the feeling of cozy and nesting in. On another note, I am so sorry you’ve had some negative people commenting. It is certainly not justified nor would it ever be. You have an amazing blog with delicious recipes. Keep up the great work and remember what you are doing has value and a following of people who respect what you are doing.
Thank you so much Deb! This is so sweet!
Hiiiii!!
Please remember. only unhappy people bring other people down- it’s a reflection on themselves, not you. You are wonderful and inspirational!!! Enjoy your Sunday!
xoxo amy
I really like that! Thank you Amy!
It’s hard to believe anyone could have something negative to say about you. In my opinion you’re positive, talented, creative, open, giving and inspiring (and I didn’t even have to think hard to come up with those qualities!) Your recipes are a highlight of my day and I love your favorite things email with my coffee on Sunday morning. Let the haters hate and know the majority of us are inspired and delighted by all you do!?

I saw that comment. It was sooo petty, and this person must have WAY too much time on their hands. I hope the positivity will flood you this week. I’m so excited to read more about fall, Halloween, and holiday recipes!
Thank you Sara!

What a fantastic post! Whoever is not blown away by your work is not even worth thinking about!
Sharing a quote I ran across lately (in my field, I am a teacher)
“Never doubt the impact that a positive person has on the community and ultimately the world. Show
others what is possible and drive them towards greatness” – John Gordon.
Your blog is one of my favorite things to read – and experiment with – thank you! – Susan S
Thank you so much Susan! I am so happy to hear that!
Your kind spirit shows through Tieghan- remember that “hurt people hurt people”, and don’t give their hateful words any power. I appreciate what you do ?
Thank you so much!!
Another incredible Favorites post
Thank you!
Love this post. I always love your Nine Favorite Things posts, but this one made me not dread cooler weather so much. Thank you! That Pozole….dinner tomorrow! Can’t wait.
Thank you Lisa!!
Negative comments? On your blog? How is it possible? And even so, guys just close the webpage and move along!
Some people really have time to loose.
Personally I love your blog, I love your photos and I love your cookbook. It is really inspiring!
Thank you for all this hard work.
(Sorry for my english, I tried my best… 😉 )
Awh thank you so much Sarah! This is so sweet and I am so glad you are enjoying my blog and cookbook! I couldn’t even tell you don’t speak english.. where are you from?
Beautiful post, Tieghan! I’m pretty excited about the onset of fall too. I love my summers, but bring on the fall harvest foods and slow cooker recipes, please! Your cinnamon spiced sugar cookies are already on my Halloween party menu! Looking forward to seeing what else you come up with this season!
Re: negative comments – if you are attracting “haters” – you’re doing something right. Nobody makes an effort to make rude comments to a total stranger unless they feel inadequate themselves and are jealous or insecure. In a weird way, it’s a compliment. (Even though it is in no way nice.) Rude remarks say more about the person issuing them than they do about the target. 😉 You are doing an absolutely amazing job with everything you do, especially for someone so young! Kudos to you, and to the haters…”Eff ’em!” 😉
Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much Aline!
How can somebody say a ‘not so kind comment’ to you??? Glad you’re over it. One of my favourite things is to go out with our dog when it’s cold or wet (or sunny or misty, in that case, I bring the camera) and then when I’m tired from the adventure, enjoying the cosiness of being inside.
Yes! That sounds amazing! Thank you Robien!
LOVE your blog!! I finally got your cookbook for my birthday last month and it’s amazing also. Thank you so much for sharing your talents – you are such an inspiration and I love your work! Have a great week, and enjoy the upcoming Fall season – as a fellow Halloween lover I’m super looking forward to your October posts. 🙂
XO Lauren
Thank you so much Lauren! I am so glad you have been loving my blog and the book!
My favorite time of year is here and you are my GO TO for all things fall/christmas! I CAN”T WAIT to see what you come up with for 2018. I was looking for the best pumpkin candle and ordered the one from Anthropologie you recommended. If you are looking for an apple candle, you HAVE to order the honey crisp haven candle from Barn at Post Oak (I am not affiliated with them, but they are WONDERFUL candles.) I bought one to test and ended up buying 3 more of the apple ones! You won’t regret it! Ive already got your persimmon old fashion from last year (SO good!) on the brain as well as the fig bourbon smash for our Friday fall outdoor suppers.I would love if you would reduce apple cider down and find a way to mix it in an apple/bourbon recipe. I always seem to have a ton of cider on hand (your cider apple and sage roasted pork chops are life in our house in fall) and always seem to wish I had a way to incorporate it into mixed drinks! Also I made the fall harvest apple and kale salad and someone literally said it was the best salad they have ever had (and it was!) Thanks for the good food and the inspiration!
Thank you so much for this!! I will get right on ordering these candles, they sound amazing!
Didn’t see the negative post you referred to but know that only cowards hide behind anonymous postings on social media. I doubt this negative person would ever have the guts to make these comments to your face. He/she is a sad little person who probably has no real friends and this is their way of lashing out at the world. Know that there are thousands of us reading your blog, looking at your GORGEOUS photos, cooking & enjoying your wonderful recipes. Don’t let the bas&$#ds get you down!
Hi Marcia, I;m so glad you support my blog and I (: I do my best to not let people get me down. I just want my blog to be a place for everyone to enjoy food and be nice to each other (:
Thank you for the kind words.
Love your blog and love your cookbook! You are an amazing young woman and I have so much admiration for all you have accomplished and look forward to seeing what the future brings for you. Turn off the negative comments! I am a mom of three grown kids and your mom gave you some great advice! Keep up the fabulous work!
wow, the food looks delicious and very attractive, thank you for sharing the recipe.
Thank you! I am so glad you like this and hope you try it!
