The 25 Most Popular Recipes of 2019.
With the end of the year quickly approaching, I wanted to share the 25 Most Popular Recipes of 2019. We’ve shared out so many delicious recipes this past year, but below are the top 25…as picked by all of you. Can you guess the most popular HBH recipe of the year?
As crazy as it is to all of us, the year is coming to an end. And even more crazy? We’re coming to the end of a decade. I realize that just about everyone is saying this right now, but time goes so quickly. You blink and the year is over, especially this year. It’s been one for the books and I’m so grateful and happy to say that 2019 has been one of my happiest (and also hardest) years of my life. So many incredible milestones were reached this year. And so much of the success that HBH has seen is all thanks to you guys! I know I sound so cheesy saying this, but thank you all so much for being the most kind, supportive, and amazing community. You all truly feel like family to me!
So today I’m sharing the top most popular recipes of 2019. This year’s recipes have been my favorite. This was the year that I really embraced keeping things SUPER SIMPLE, but somehow managed to keep them flavorful and colorful too. It’s been a challenge, but one that kept me thinking outside the box. Thankfully, you’ve all seemed to truly enjoy these recipes!!
The theme I’ve been seeing over the past year has been a love for the cozy vegetarian recipes. Dishes with mushrooms, garlic butter, onions, and cheese are always popular. This year’s better than takeout style recipes are tried and true weeknight favorites. And meatballs…which was shocking to me…were another favorite enjoyed by so many.
Oh! And sweetbreads, so many of you seem to really LOVE them, especially banana…and pumpkin too.
Here are the 25 most popular recipes from 25 to 1…
Question: What was your personal favorite? Dying to know if it made this list? Or is your 2019 favorite from the HBH Super Simple cookbook? What recipes would love to see most in 2020? Please do let me know!
25. Greek Lemon Chicken Bowls…
With Sizzled Mint Goddess Sauce. Grilled Greek chicken (or roasted), served bowl style with orzo, roasted peppers, avocado, feta cheese, cucumbers, and the most deliciously addicting sizzled mint goddess sauce.
24. Healthy Chipotle Chicken Sweet Potato Skins
Kind of like cheesy nachos, but instead of chips, we’re substituting crisp sweet potatoes skins…so much better!
Pasta tossed with slow-roasted cherry tomatoes, basil pesto, burrata cheese, and prosciutto. All baked until the cheese is melty and the prosciutto extra crisp.
22. One Pot Creamy French Onion Pasta Bake
The ultimate cold-weather comfort food. Think French onion soup, with the addition of pasta, a creamy sauce, and melty Gruyere cheese.
21. Sheet Pan Blackened Salmon Bowl…
With Potatoes and Avocado Goddess Sauce. Baby potatoes roasted alongside blackened salmon and served bowl style with steamed brown rice, feta cheese, and the most deliciously addicting avocado goddess sauce.
20. Cream Cheese Swirled Pumpkin Bread
Better than your coffee shop. Moist pumpkin bread sweetened with maple syrup, swirled with cream cheese, topped with sweet cinnamon sugar, and served warm. So GOOD!
19. Souper Creamy Lemon Butter Cheesy Zucchini Orzo
Kind of like risotto, kind of like soup, kind of DELICIOUS.
This light, buttery, super soft, and eggy brioche bread is swirled with hints of sweet honey. It makes for the most delicious, extra fancy companion to your morning coffee.
17. 30 Minute Coq au Vin Chicken Meatballs…
With browned butter mashed potatoes. Best for those cold fall and winter nights when you want a fancy slow-braised chicken, but you want it ready in less than an hour.
16. Roasted Garlic Spaghetti Squash Lasagna Boats
Spaghetti squash stuffed with a spicy chicken, tomato-based ragu sauce, and creamy cheesy béchamel sauce made with fresh ricotta and provolone cheeses. It’s all baked together until the sauce is bubbling hot and the cheese is melted and perfect.
15. Roasted Cauliflower Salad…
With Creamy Honey Mustard Vinaigrette. Enjoy this salad for dinner and save the leftovers for lunch the next day. The perfect salad for all the summer days ahead.
14. Better Than Takeout Dan Dan Noodles
Crispy caramelized ground chicken in a sweet, spicy, and tangy mushroom sauce atop egg noodles in steaming, spicy broth. These quick vegetable-filled Chinese inspired noodles can be made and ready in just about 30 minutes.

One bowl, pantry staple ingredients, super quick to mix up, healthy…ish, and SO DELICIOUS.
11. Creamy Wild Rice Chicken Soup with Roasted Mushrooms
Shared this soup back in November and it’s truly everyone’s favorite. An easy and delicious slow cooker meal (or instant pot or stove-top). It’s a hearty warming meal to enjoy any night of the week.
10. Persian Herb and Chickpea Stew with Rice
All made in one pan, in just about 30 minutes. Made with good for us ingredients like chickpeas, turmeric, lemon, spinach, and plenty of fresh herbs. It’s hearty, springy, and beyond delicious.
9. Garlic Butter Creamed Spinach Salmon
This one skillet salmon is for those nights when you’re craving something fancy…ish, but need to keep things quick and easy too.
8. Slow Cooker French Wine and Mustard Chicken
Turning a classic French recipe into an easy slow cooker meal using white wine, creamy Dijon mustard, fresh herbs, and parmesan cheese.
7. Broccoli Cheddar Chicken and Rice Casserole
Kind of like broccoli cheddar soup meets cozy weeknight casserole. It’s healthy…ish, so darn easy, and so darn delicious.
It’s extra soft, doughy, chewy, and brushed generously with caramelized garlic herb butter. Quite honestly, you’ll have a hard time finding a better naan recipe out there.
5. Weeknight Sticky Sesame Ginger Chicken Meatballs
Easy homemade Asian inspired chicken meatballs with ginger and sesame, tossed in a sweet, spicy, and extra sticky soy pomegranate sauce. Only shared this recipe a couple of months ago and it’s already in the top 5 for the entire year.
4. 30 minute better than takeout Szechuan Noodles…
With Sesame Chili Oil. For those nights when you’re craving extra saucy Chinese inspired noodles, but don’t want to wait for take out. Szechuan style noodles with soy sauce, tangy rice vinegar, plenty of vegetables, and thick egg noodles…with the most addicting toasted sesame chili oil spooned over top.
3. 30 Minute Better Than Takeout Thai Drunken Noodles
Every bite is filled with saucy noodles, delicious vegetables, and hints of sweet basil. It’s so good and much healthier than something you might find at your favorite Thai place.
2. Coconut Sweet Potato Lentil Soup with Rice
All made in just ONE pot (or in your instant pot), in less than an hour, and using good for us ingredients like sweet potatoes, red lentils, warming spices, and creamy coconut milk. It’s cozy, a little spicy, and filled with vegetables. Finish each bowl off with steamed rice and you’ll have the perfect healthy bowl of soup for lunch or dinner.
1. Indian Coconut Butter Cauliflower
The crazy thing about this recipe? When I shared it I was certain that no one would be interested in this dish. It felt a little too out there and maybe even a little too healthy. BUT I’m thrilled everyone loves this recipe so much. It’s a favorite of mine too! I swapped the chicken for nutrient-packed cauliflower, and replaced the heavy cream and butter with rich and creamy coconut milk and coconut oil. This has a quick 30 minute cooking time and uses pantry staple ingredients.
If you’ve made any of these recipes from the past year, be sure to leave a comment! Above all, I love to hear from you guys and always do my best to respond to each and every comment. And of course, if you do make this recipe, don’t forget to tag me on Instagram! Looking through the photos of recipes you all have made is my favorite!

My family and my favorite recipe was most definitely the BBQ beer pulled chicken tacos!! I have made it by all 3 methods and turns out perfectly every time. And I put it on everything! Tacos, pizzas, paninis and just by itself with some toasty brussel sprouts.
Thank you so much Allison! xTieghan
That coconut curry sweet potato soup has become a go to when I’m feeling like I’m coming down with a cold! So so delicious!!

I have been excited for this post! Your French mustard chicken and Thai drunken noodles have been my favourite recipes that I have made many times. Your website is one of my favourite discoveries of 2019. My husband has just gifted my Super Simple and I am SO excited to read it this afternoon. I had a quick flick through and the picture are gorgeous. I love that you make tasty, easy recipes with everyday ingredients. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you Maryann! Thank you so much for trying those! xTieghan
I discovered you and your blog at the beginning of the year. I just have to say I am in love!! Most of what I make now is either from your blog or two cookbooks. (Yes – I own both.). I love all of the vegetarian recipes you do, but I also love the others, too!! I find your optimism so refreshing. My daughters are just a little bit younger than you, and I have told them you are a great role model for them. I gave both of them your cookbook. One is already following you on Instagram. You are truly amazing and talented. I look forward to all you create in 2020. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much Angie! I am so glad you loved this recipe! xTieghan
My mouth is watering just looking at these beautiful photos, and I have a few I’m going to make. Not on the list, but my favorite this last year was your appetizer of fried feta with honey, thyme and lemon. I just served it again last week and people always swoon over it. Addicting. Happy New Year, Tieghan.
Happy New Year Linda! I am so glad you loved that app! Thank you! xTieghan
Favorite: that Stuffed chicken wrapped in prosciutto dish by far! Also loved the easy take out dishes and the the meatballs. More of those, please. Also loved the sweetbreads, muffins and any snack cake you come up with. I’d like to see more pizza, too. For me, not into the vegetarian stuff although I love vegetables, andpleaseless chocolate-peanut combo—- like them, but enough. Thanks for all the terrific recipes this year. Oh, and pasta is a yes! So many great recipes. Have a wonderful 2020 and do what you do best…we’ll love it, I’m sure.
Thank you so much Joyce! Have a wonderful New Year! xTieghan
This list is amazing! Especially since I didn’t find you til a few months ago…
My question is, which of your recipes would make good pre-made, freezer meals? Such as for a meal swap co op maybe? Or maybe the recipe is broken up into parts where some of it is make-ahead or freezable and then there are a few prep steps at meal time. Could be a helpful category in the break out out of your recipe section since you’ve been trying to make good eating super simple ?
Hey Kristen!! Linking to my favorite freezer meals below. And I love this suggestion. I will work on getting this added to blog. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love all the recipes you end up trying! Thank you and Happy New Year! xTieghan

Hi Tieghan, I loved all your recipes I’ve tried but one of my favorites is the Creamy Wild Rice Chicken Soup with roasted mushrooms! I’ve never roasted mushrooms before but now will be doing it a lot!!! The soup is by far one of the BEST EVER!!!
My instant pot is my go-to and I use it more than any other of my “appliances”. I would love to see more IP recipes in 2020 but that’s just me. I’ve talked so much about it to my fiancé and he’s been the glad recipient of trying your recipes that he got one for Christmas and I’ll be sharing my IP recipes with him.
I hope you had a very Blessed Christmas and am wishing you the Best of Everything in the 2020—HAPPY NEW YEAR ?!!!
Happy New Year to you Susan! I am so glad you loved that and others! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Love your recipes! My student teacher gave me your first book last year and I asked for the second one for Christmas. I really appreciate the quality of your dishes and that there are so many approachable ones I can make after teaching all day for my family. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Maureen! xTieghan

The 30 Min. Healthier Beer Braised Chicken has been added into permanent rotation at our house. It’s so stinkin’ flavorful! We also love your 30 Min. Cajun Butter Steak and Peppers. Basically I’ll try anything that promises 30 min meals. 😉
Right?! its the best! I am so glad you loved that recipe Libby! xTieghan
The Persian herb and chickpea stew with rice was a tipping point for me this year! Our household has been trying to cook more vegetarian meals to decrease our environmental impact and increase our sustainability this year, and this recipe was one that made me feel like vegetarian dishes can be just as satisfying as ones with meat. This stew is the stuff of dreams. Thank you for providing healthy and delicious recipes across the spectrum of dietary needs!
Thank you so much for trying them! So glad you have been enjoying and I hope you continue to! xTieghan
Where is the pumpkin penne with vodka sauce!? My fave of the year 🙂 blessings CK
So glad you loved that one! xTieghan
My family’s favorite (and several friends’ fav – seriously, I made this when I went to stay with friends a few weeks ago and they loved it) was your cheddar apple butternut squash soup with the cinnomon pecan crumble. It’s SO easy to make but with the extras like the honeyed apples and crumble it feels fancy. I crave it about every other week.
Santa brought me your new cookbook for the holidays, so I’m super eager to give a bunch of things in there a try. I think the only thing I’d like to see more of is Instant Pot friendly recipes. Santa got me one of those as well 🙂
Oh, and PLEASE keep your boozy recipes coming 🙂 When I have friends over and know I want a fun twist on a cocktail, I start with your recipes.
Ah that is so great! And you do not have to ask me twice to make cocktails haha! Thank you so much Joanna! xTieghan
Delicious!
My favourites have been the rigatoni, pesto, sausage bake and artichoke, spinach salmon bake from your website here and the chicken gnocchi soup and Kai’s favourite orange sesame chicken from HBH Super Simple. Plus so many others! Xx
Aw this is so amazing to hear!! So glad you have been enjoying all of the recipes Kelly! xTieghan
I think my favorite recipe of yours is your dinner rolls. Also recently made the creamy sun dried tomato chicken and orzo and it was so cozy. Id love to see some more dishes with lamb or shrimp? How about a crown roast of lamb for next Christmas menu?! So fancy.
Thank you so much for the suggestions! Happy New Year! xTieghan
I’ve made lots of these!! Looking forward to trying a few more in January! Love your blog ❤️
Thank you so much Sonya! xTieghan
We have made that slow cooker wine and mustard chicken weekly since we first tried it. It’s so easy and soooo good! Everyone we serve it to raves about it! Even our 2 year old will have multiple servings! Can’t wait to try some of these!
Thank you Emily! I hope you love whichever you try! xTieghan
The coconut sweet potato lentil soup was one of my favourites! I use kabocha (Japanese pumpkin) instead of sweet potato and some of it breaks up which makes the soup really creamy and delicious.
This was the first year of cooking your recipes and they’ve definitely helped me improve in the kitchen. My husband said my cooking has leveled up this year.
Thanks Tieghan, looking forward to healthy January and the next year of recipes! I got an instant pot for Christmas so definitely looking forward to trying your recipes for that!
Happy new year!
Thank you so much Grace! I am so glad you loved that soup and other recipes! Happy New Year! xTieghan

I’ve made several of your recipes and my favorite so far is the apple butter chicken wrapped in prosciutto! It’s sooooo good! I also made the eggnog cinnamon rolls for Christmas and they are definitely going to my new go-to Christmas breakfast! I go back to work this week 🙁 so, I’m looking for some simple dinner ideas! I also love one-pot recipes so I’m not doing tons of dishes!
