Chocolate Chunk Coconut Banana Bread.
The best and (easiest) Chocolate Chunk Coconut Banana Bread…for your Friday chocolate fix. One bowl, pantry staple ingredients, super quick to mix up, healthy…ish, and SO DELICIOUS! Yes, that pretty much sums up this banana bread, and it’s the perfect bread to bake up this weekend. With over-ripe bananas, good honey, and your favorite chocolate bar, this is sure to become your favorite banana bread. Perfect for breakfast, as an afternoon snack, or a late night dessert.
This past week all I’ve wanted to do is bake. I”m sure the very cold temperatures and snowy weather have something to do with this. Regardless, I really just want to bake. And if I’m not baking, I’m making homemade pizza in the pizza oven. Which is currently my very favorite thing to do, I can’t get enough pizza (new recipes are coming).
Or banana bread.
Clearly my “Healthy January” is going soo well…
In all honesty, I’ve found this year’s “Healthy January” to be a little tougher than in years past. I’ve had to really scratch my head to brainstorm “healthy” recipes over the last few weeks.
You see, I am very much craving warm comfort food…
Celery juice on the other hand? Not so much. Don’t get me wrong, I actually love celery juice. But it’s cold, and just not what I want to sip on a white blustery January day, you know?
Instead of denying those cravings, I tried to make my favorite cozy recipes a little on the healthier side. It’s all about balance over here, no diets, at least not temporary ones. Just creating recipes that are delicious and wholesome. Which is where this banana bread comes in. Yes, it has honey. And yes, my dark chocolate chunks are not 100% cacao. But hey, this bread is made with whole wheat flour, coconut oil, and plenty of bananas. All healthy things, especially when it comes to the dessert world. So, I’m going with it, and very excited to be sharing today’s recipe. Just in time for the weekend too!
PS. have you tried celery juice? I know it sounds odd, but I recently tried some (because of this book) and it’s actually so good.
Moving on to the details. This is the best and easiest banana bread I’ve ever shared. It’s my go-to…that is until I develop a newer version in .02 seconds, and that becomes my favorite. Ahh, the life of someone who makes up recipes for a living. We always have a new “favorite”.
Seriously though, this banana bread is moist, very banana-y, hinted with coconut, sweetened lightly with honey, and swirled with chocolate throughout. Every last bite is roll your eyes back delicious. Best part? It’s the easiest to make, requiring just one bowl and a handful of pantry staples.
Here’s the quick run down.
Find yourself some very ripe bananas, I’m talking practically black bananas everyone. Like, you think they are too black to eat? Nope, that just means they are perfect for banana bread. Use them.
Mash up the bananas and then mix with a little coconut oil, honey, a couple of eggs, and a splash of vanilla. Add whole wheat flour, a pinch of cinnamon, and a dash of salt. The cinnamon is that unexpected ingredient that might seem a bit off, but it’s actually what makes the bread really good. It’s subtle enough that you can’t really tell it’s there, but it adds a special touch.
Now stir in all the chocolate chunks that your heart desires. Bake, and less than an hour later your house is going to smell incredible, and you’ll have the prettiest deep golden, and chocolate filled loaf of banana bread.
Great for breakfast, delicious as an afternoon snack, and chocolatey enough for an evening dessert.
The perfect recipe, right?
If you can resist, you should wait 30 minutes or so to slice into the bread. That way the bread will have time to properly set-up and fully finish baking after coming out of the oven. Waiting is what any professional baker would tell you to do, but let’s be real, no one cares what you should do. Do what your stomach and your eyes are screaming at you to do. Slice the bread and enjoy it warm while the chocolate is gooey.
It might not be what you should do, but it’s the right thing to do. That I am sure of.
Oh, and major bonus points if you enjoy this with a little smear of butter and a drizzle of honey. It’s Friday, live a little. AND if you happen to have a snowy weekend in the forecast, you really need to bake this up. It’s great any day, but it’s best enjoyed on the coldest of days.
If you make this chocolate banana bread be sure to leave a comment and/or give this recipe a rating! Above all, I love to hear from you guys and always do my best to respond to each and every comment. And of course, if you do make this recipe, don’t forget to also tag me on Instagram! Looking through the photos of recipes you all have made is my favorite!

It does look really yummy.
Thank you so much Charlotte!
Oops – I think you’vev done it again. Yum and
Can’t wait to bake!
Woo!! I hope you love this Debbi!
I have coconut flour I’m dying to try. Is that an ingredient you’ve ever played with, and do you think it could sub in here?
HI! I have not used coconut flour too much and am not sure of the outcome. I would recommend starting with 1/2 coconut flour and 1/2 white flour to start. I worry using all coconut flour will result in a flat bread. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
This recipe seems like one that I would love to make right now! However, I am a diabetic, what would one slice be as far as carbs are concerned? Waiting hopefully for your response. Either way, thank you for this recipe, as well as other great and delicious recipe’s.
Hi! I do not actually have the carb information. I am so sorry about that. I would suggest putting it into an app like MyFitnessPal because it will show you the carbs, fats, proteins and calories!
Hi! Love all of your recipes – I check your website every morning for the day’s newest dish! This looks DELISH… I’ve never made banana bread before but would really love to try this one out. Just one thing: I don’t eat coconut oil. Is it possible to substitute for olive oil? Or use coconut cream (like the thick stuff in a can) instead? 🙂
Hi Alexandra! You can use melted butter or olive oil in place of the coconut oil. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Love this!! Not just the recipe (although, major yum) but your mindset. It’s finally getting snowy and to-the-bones cold here on the front range, and I’m reminding myself that it’s not all or nothing. Comfort food is okay, healthy-ish is balance!
I am so glad you love this recipe and the post, Alexandra! And I am so glad you’re taking good things from it. Thank you!
Hi! I’m really excited to make this. If I don’t have coconut oil on hand is there a substitute that you recommend? BTW I adore your recipes!!!! Thank you!
HI! You can use melted butter, olive oil, or coconut oil. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Can I make this gluten free with almond flour? any changes?
Thanks, LS
HI! I have not tested this with GF flour so I really am not sure how it will turn out. I would think it would be ok, but again I am not sure. If you do give it a try, please let me know how it turns out. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
How long would you suggest baking these if making muffins rather than bread?
HI Andrea, I would bake around 18-22 minutes for muffins. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
YUM! If I add walnuts, it would have the flavors of my favorite ice cream, chunky monkey! Pinned to make next week!
YES! I hope you love this Maria! Thank you!
hey girl- this bread looks oh so yummy!
Thank you! I am so glad you like this!
Made this today. It was quick, easy and so so delicious! I wouldn’t change a thing. Thank you for the wonderful recipe!
I am so glad this turned out perfectly for you, Amanda! Thank you!
Such a dreamy banana bread, I love the chocolate chunks!
Thank you so much!
oh yes, this is what the weekend calls for!!
Yes! I hope you make this Ruth!
You say you can substitute all purpose flour for the whole wheat pastry flour, I won’t go I to the science of it all but the results of the finished bread will not be the same as you made, taste, texture, the difference in protein. Why do you give the exchange and did you try it with the ap flour, just curious.
Hey Sue! I have tested this with both flours and while the whole wheat version is a little heartier, it is just as delicious with white all-purpose flour. Both flours work well and this is why I have said you can use either or. I want to allow readers to use what they prefer or have on hand. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
I just made this. Followed the recipe exactly. and the batter did not taste good – not a good sign! i checked other banana bread recipes and saw the 1/4 cup honey is much less sweetener than other recipes, so I added an additional 1/4 cup of sugar. The texture of the bread is good, but the taste is just okay. It could be that my bananas were too brown.
Hi Jen! I am so sorry you did not enjoy this recipe! Are there any specific questions you have about it? I hope you love some other recipes on my blog!
This recipe is SO good, Tieghan! I’m normally so skeptical of honey-sweetened baked goods because often times they are not great, but this banana bread is straight up AMAZING! So moist, great crumb, and I splurged on some big chunks of TCHO chocolate to put in there and it was crazy good. Thanks!
I am so glad you loved this recipe, Joanne! Thank you so much!
What are your thoughts on using frozen (very browned) bananas that I had saved a few months back for a recipe like this? Let them thaw completely or don’t use them at all for this recipe?
HI! You can totally use the frozen bananas. Just let them thaw and use as directed. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
So yammy ? the calories you indicated are for the all cake or for each portion? I’m doing this tomorrow, for sure! 😀 kisses from Portugal
It’s for each portion. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Just made this bread following recipe exactly(used AP flour & organic dark chocolate bar chopped) and it came out AMAZING! Will definitely make this again! Love following your blog! We really love your “hot buttered rum apple pie stuffed cinnamon sugar soft pretzels”! I make them often!
I am so glad you loved this and the pretzels!! Thank you so much Megan!
Just came out of the oven and cooled enough for my greedy self to try a bite… YUM! Super soft and moist, and I loved that it was made in one bowl with minimal fuss. This is definitely going in the rotation, thank you!!!
I didn’t have vanilla extract and my bananas weren’t quite as ripe as I would’ve liked, but I had some vanilla brandy that I soaked the bananas in while I got everything else together… not complaining haha. Also, I made as muffins, just baked for 15 minutes… perfect. Thanks again!
Hi Cristina! I am so glad you loved this recipe and it turned out so well for you! Thank you!
I was just searching Google for a banana bread recipe and came across this one. Surprisingly, I had all the ingredients on hand and they were ones I wanted to use up. I added toasted unsweetened coconut flakes and extra chocolate chips that I always wanted to use up. It came out good, not too sweet but I’m not sure if my whole wheat flour was too old or not.
Hi Lucy! I am so glad you liked this bread recipe and so perfect you had all of the ingredients! Thank you for trying it!
Making this right now
I hope you love it Dana!
It’s in the oven now. Used peanut butter and swirled it, in the loaf pan.
YUM! I hope you love this Kim!
Oh this looks like such a beautiful banana bread loaf! Chocolate chunks make ANY banana bread a billion times tastier. Each slice looks so fluffy and hearty–it must have smelled heavenly while you baked this bread! Making healthier choices is always a must, but that doesn’t mean it can’t taste indulgent! I’d love to dig into this whole wheat loaf any day! Do you know if this recipe works with flax eggs and maple syrup?
Hey Cassie! I have not tested with a flax egg so I am not sure of the results. I do think maple will be great! Let me know how the flax egg works out! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Hi, is there any gluten free flour options you would recommend? Many thanks, Katie.
HI! I recommend a GF flour blend. I like Bobs red mill. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Made this yesterday, it was awesome. Shared some with my neighbors who equally loved it.
Thank you so much Dana! I am so glad you all loved this!
Just took a big bite out of my bread right out of the oven! Delicious! I didn’t have any coconut oil so just used vegetable oil and it was fine. Excited to try it with coconut next time! 🙂
Thank you so much Kayti! I am so glad you loved this!
I used a bundt pan as my loaf one ended up in my studio… fingers crossed! It’s in the oven now and smells amazing.
I hope it turns out amazing for you, Svava! Thank you!
Hi! I love banana bread and am eager to try this recipe. I don’t cook with coconut oil too much. Does it matter refined vs unrefined, etc? Sorry if that’s a dumb question!
Hey Elizabeth! I like to use unrefined coconut oil for best flavor! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Amazingly moist, delicious banana bread!! My new favorite recipe
Thank you so much Anthony! I am so glad you enjoyed this!
Made this today on our second day of being homebound in Chicago for arctic temps! DELICIOUS! I subbed almond flour and added an extra egg. Also used a variety of chocolate that I had on hand, totaling 1 c.
YES! I love to hear that these turned out so well for you, Christen! Thank you!
Do you think you could sub the honey for agave?
Hey Lauren! I am sure agave will be totally fine, though I am not positive as I don’t use agave when cooking or baking. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I don’t usually try different banana bread recipes as I have had a favorite but this was super tasty! The four bananas I used yielded way more than 1 1/4 cups but it still turned out great. Love that it doesn’t have a ton of sugar like most recipes and the coconut oil adds a subtle little flavor. Will definitely make again!
I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe, Michelle! Thank you so much!
Love this recipe! Living in Evergreen & Granby Colorado I appreciate seeing baked good recipes at my altitude! My husband loved the banana bread even though he’s not a big fan when I put chocolate into almost everything I bake. Your recipe is so moist and the bread turned out beautiful! Thanks!
I am so glad you loved this Laurie! Thank you!
This was delicious! I have a favorite banana bread recipe but it is loaded with butter and sugar. I didn’t think I would ever find a healthy one that my family would approve of but I was wrong! They loved this!! And I love that it’s not loaded with butter and sugar! Thank you for another delicious addition to our recipe file!!
I am SO glad everyone loved this Beth! Thank you so much for trying it!
Would whole wheat flour work just the same as whole wheat pastry flour? I’m not sure what the difference is.
HI! Yes, whole wheat flour will work, but the bread will be a bit more dense. You can also use all-purpose flour too. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Good but I think your Chocolate Chip Almond Butter Banana Bread is the winner! That is the best one I’ve ever had and now my go-to.
Thank you so much Leanne!
I cannot get over how beautiful your photos are! & I’ve got some ripe bananas on my kitchen counter.. this bread is totally happening!
So perfect! I hope you love this Haley!
Hi sorry to say, I followed the recipe and it was really not tasty.
Unfortunate because looking at it it looks great but the flavour is really not there, it just tastes like flour and baking soda i think its because the sweetness isn’t there to bring out the banana.
I haven’t really made a not tasty banana bread before but looking at the ingredients afterwards it does seem that just honey might be just not enough. Maybe needs butter or some sugar.
Still love your blog though and have tried your cauliflower curry from last week was really delicious i just used chicken using the spices base.
Hi Melanie! I am so sorry to hear that.. Are there any questions I could help you with? I will leave some links to other banana breads if you would like to give those a try! I hope you still enjoy many other recipes on my blog!

Do you think whole wheat flour can be replaced with whole wheat pastry flour for this recipe? And using maple syrup does quantity of liquid needs to adjust?
HI! Yes, you can use regular whole wheat flour and yes, use an equal amount of maple. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Made it yesterday and it was delicious!
Thank you so much Marija!
Sounds so yummy! Quick question. Enforce I start – do you leave in the pan to cool down for 30 minutes or turn onto a rack? Thanks!!
HI! I like to leave in the pan for the first 10-20 minutes, then turn out. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
This banana bread was truly delicious and we went back for seconds and thirds in one sitting. It was so easy to make and made out while house smell wonderful. The honey and butter was a game changer for sure.
I am so happy to hear that Bec! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Another wonderful recipe! I made the bread exactly as directed (used dark chocolate chips) and this is delicious and so easy! I’m not sure why others had issues with the batter taste and/or consistency?? I baked it last night and had a slice for my pre-workout snack. I will add this to my collection of bread recipes! Thank you!
Hi Teresa! I am so glad this turned out amazing for you and you loved it! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Tieghan, I just baked your recipe on my rainy, chilly day at home and WOW, they are so delicious!!! It was very easy to make, and it’s such a comforting, nostalgic treat for me! I absolutely love them (I already had 2 warm slices straight out of the oven with butter!) Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful recipe! It’ll become a new staple in my house! Take care 🙂
I am so glad this turned out so well for you Laura! And on a rainy evening.. sounds amazing! Thank you! xTieghan
This didn’t even last 24 hours in our house (just my Husband & I), it was so yummy! Definitely going to be in my favorite recipe folder! 10 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
That is so amazing! I am so glad you both loved this recipe, Suzy! Thank you so much!
I made two loaves one with unbleached flour and one with GF. Both came out great! ?
I am so happy to hear that Coco! Thank you! xTieghan
Made it this morning! Easy enough to throw together quickly with ingredients I have at home… even with 2 young kids running around? tasted great and the kids loved it… thanks for a delicious, healthy-ish recipe?
Thank you so much Tricia! I am so glad you loved this recipe and it went over well with the kids as well!! xTieghan
I made this with Cup 4 Cup gluten free flour and it was delicious! Will be making this again and again.
Thank you Megan!
I just too this from the oven. Went right by the recipe except I had a few choc, chips I wanted to use but mostly used chunks. I had to sample while it was still HOT. HA!! I read some of the comments after I made it and begin to doubt if it would be sweet enough when someone said it wasn’t. Wellll, I am here to say it is DELICIOUS!!! Sweetness was perfect while hot. Nor sure it will be less sweet cold or not. I was making it to give some to my great granddaughter’s teacher and a good friend at school also. I made 4 small loaves. One was a bit bigger than the other 3. I think they will love it.
I am so glad you loved this banana bread, Charlotte! Thank you so much!! xTieghan
I just took this out of the oven. I was a bit concerned it wouldn’t be sweet enough after I read someone said it wasn’t. Wellll, I am here to say it is Delicious and perfectly sweet at least while it is hot. I couldn’t wait to sample to make sure.
I made 3 mini loaves and 1 about medium. I am giving a couple to some teachers at the school were I used to work. Our great granddaughter’s teacher will enjoy this. Thank You for all your hard work.
It was easy to make – we were out of coconut oil so used regular brown rice oil instead. The chocolate was a bit much for me – will probably substitute half the chocolate to nuts of some sort next time. Will definitely make again with coconut oil next time!! Thanks for the great recipe!!
I am so glad you enjoyed this banana bread, Jee! I hope you love it even more with the nuts! Thank you! xTieghan
Hi I made the chocolate chunk banana bread. Baked it at 350 for 45 minutes and it was slightly over cooked. My question is your elevation? Here in the bowl that is New Orleans, I believe 35 minutes would have been perfection! Topped half with pecans for hubby and half with coconut for me. Do not worry we will add butter and eat in in three days tops!
Hi Kay! I am at about 8,000 ft! That may have had something to do with the cooking time, but I am so glad it still tasted great! Thank you! xTieghan
Made this last night and it is incredible!
Thank you so much Liz! xTieghan
Hi, making this for the first time…for my Birthday! I’ve bought coconut oil, do I just melt this like I would butter? And do I not need to line my loaf tin?
Thanks loads Claire
HI! You can just melt the coconut oil as you would butter! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
wow! I have been wanting to make this since you posted it and so glad I finally did! I subbed grapeseed oil because I’m not the biggest coconut fan but it was still so, so delicious. I love that its not overly sweet but still nice and chocolatey!
I am so glad you loved this! Thank you so much Gabby! xTieghan
This recipe is amazing!!
But I have a question, the calories are for one serving? Or for all ?
HI! The calories are for 1 serving. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I’ve also made these as muffins baking at 350 for 20 minutes. They turned out great!
Thank you Erica!I am so glad you loved these! xTieghan
I always wonder this: is it a quarter cup coconut oil as a solid or when in liquid form? Because they are two different measurements. Since you have comma melted, I’m assuming this means you measure the coconut oil as a solid first?
HI! I measure it once it is at a liquid state. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I have made this banana bread once a week since I found the recipe. My family loves it. The bread packages and ships well {sent to a son at college}. I don’t usually care for chocolate in a banana bread, but this is definitely the exception. Delicious and so easy to make!
I am so glad you’ve been loving this, Beverly! Thank you so much! xTieghan
This bread is fantastic! Moist and flavourful. You would never know it didn’t have sugar. I shared some with my mom and she immediately asked for the recipe. She’s been using the same recipe for as long as I can remember! Can’t wait to make it again.
I am so glad you both enjoyed this recipe, Jodi! Thank you so much! xTieghan
This recipe was easy. The hardest part is waiting for the bananas to go black. I brought it over to a friend’ House and we both loved it.
I am so glad you both enjoyed this Claire! Thank you! xTieghan

Thank you so much Janet! xTieghan
This bread is AMAZING!!! I added blueberries and it took it right over the top! Next time I will double the batch as it was gone immediately!! Thank you!!!
Thank you Jennifer! xTieghan
Can I use sunflower oil instead of coconut oil?
And how do you bake the bread? With aircirculation or top and bottom heat?
Looks really delicious
HI! You can use sunflower oil and I use standard US electric oven oven. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
These are amazing! Thank you
Thank you Elena! xTieghan
Would like to try this but I don’t want to wait for my bananas to be “over ripe”. Can I use regular ripe bananas?
Hi Jan! Yes, you can use regular bananas. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Hi, if you are still wondering about the coconut flour it works perfectly. I have been making a banana chocolate chip bread recipe from the Vibrant Family blog (almost exactly the same as yours but with coconut flour) and it’s lovely. The only thing is you will need less as the coconut flour takes up more moisture. I also leave out the honey as the banana is sweet enough. That way it is truly healthy! Hope you’ll try! Lovely blog and recipes by the way! ❤
This was amazing! Love all your recipes I’ve tried so far!
I made this yesterday and it is wonderful! Think it now stands as my favorite bb? I added toasted pecans because it just felt right. I didn’t have shredded coconut but added a few drops of coconut extract and used the coconut oil in recipe and you could taste it. I went out and bought coconut for next time! Today will be blueberry muffins:). And then artichoke pasta. Loving your recipes and photo shoots!
Thank you so much Sally! I am so glad you loved this recipe! xTieghan
Hi ! I made this beauty yesterday. How amazing it smells !! But its was a little dry inside .. and not as moist as in your video .. however, I made all like in the video.. not overmixing etc… I don’t know if it’s because of my oven … I use the Celsius degrees so I went for 180*C. But it smells like heaven !
Hi Emilie! Oh no, I am sorry to hear that! Are there any questions I could help you with? xTieghan
Soooooo friggin good!
Thank you Amanda! xTieghan
Can you substitute regular flour?
Hi Kristen! Yes, regular flour works great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
This recipe is perfect, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m usually not a banana bread person, too sweet and dense, but this bread was so delicious and fluffy. I used the whole wheat pastry flour and it turned out a loaf that my husband and I couldn’t leave alone until it was gone. I can’t wait to make it again!
You are too kind! Thank you so much Heather! xTieghan
Would I be able to replace coconut oil with almond butter?
HI Priscilla! I would not recommend that. I don’t think the bread will bake up properly with only almond butter. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Love love love the use of coconut oil in this bread! Really melds well with the flavor of the banana. Great post!
Thank you so much Eleanor! So happy to hear this! xTieghan
This was delicious! Loving your recipes. ?
Thank you Yvette! xTieghan
Love this recipe!
I did make a few adjustments to accommodate my dietary restrictions & compensate for high altitude. I made it gluten-free by substituting 1c Cup-4-Cup Gluten-free Flour & 1/2c Almond Flour sifted for the Whole Wheat flour. I also reduced sodium by cutting salt in half & substituting 2 tsp Baking Powder for 1 tsp of the Baking Soda (this also helps for High Altitude variation so that bread rises correctly). For High Altitude I also had to reduce baking time to about 40-45 minutes.
*If you want a more pronounced Coconut flavor, try adding about 1/2c Shredded Coconut. Next time I will probably use a bit less chocolate & add pecans.
Hi Anna! I am so glad you loved this recipe and thank you for sharing your modifications! I hope you love every recipe you try! xTieghan
Just made the chocolate banana bread. I added 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts with the chocolate.
If you mix a little bit of flour to the chocolate and nuts and mix, they will not sink to the bottom and will evenly distribute.
Also bake on the next to lowest rack in the oven.
Turned out excellent!!!
.
I am so happy to hear that Colleen! Thank you!! xTieghan
LOVE this recipe! Found it on Instagram, Overall it is the perfect fresh-baked hug from the oven, especially in the Fall/Winter time of year!
Yes! I am so glad you loved this recipe Tkeys! xTieghan
One of my favorite things to do is stroll through Pinterest recipes( although as of late it is rather annoying with all of the ridiculous pop up advertisements)! I always know before even looking at the contributor which posts are yours. Your photos are second to none. So beautiful. I love the aesthetics of food photography. I hope you will one day publish a cookbook!
Hi Suzanne! I have two cookbooks out! I hope you check them out! Also, I am so glad you have been enjoying my blog! Thank you! xTieghan
Hey Tieghan, I have about 3/4 cup of mashed banana. What do you think about supplementing the rest with unsweetened applesauce? Yes?
Hi Renee! I can’t say for sure, but I would imagine that will work well. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
This is definitely my new favorite banana bread recipe. I’m just sad I didn’t try it earlier! Yum!
Thank you so much Aimee! xTieghan
Made as per recipe, we enjoyed it. May reduce chocolate chips next time as the banana bread itself it pretty tasty.
Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed this! xTieghan
Made exactly as written for family get together and have been put to work making more loaves for the constant demand. Perfect B bread. Thanks Teigan!
That is amazing! I am so glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Been using the same recipe for banana bread for 20+ years, but this just looked so S I M P L E. and what a nice change to not use veg oil or white sugar (umm, ok the chocolate might have bad stuff, but you gotta start somewhere, right??).
It took me less than 10 mins from defrosting frozen bananas to in-the-oven. Haven’t tried the finished product yet, but I’m feelin’ the love for this already!
Haha I hope this turns out so well for you!! Thank you so much Laura! xTieghan
Can I use Kodiak pancake mix instead of flour and remove baking soda? Thanks!!
Hi Samantha, I would not recommend using that as I don’t think the bread would bake up well. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Hi! I wanted to make it more moist. Can I add some Greek yogurt??
Hi Yera, You can try adding 1/4 cup yogurt, but I can’t be sure that will turn out as I have not tested. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
I live in Colorado as I know you do. Do I need to adjust your recipes for altitude?
Hi Marion! You don’t need to make any adjustments. This bread should bake up perfectly for you. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Too.much.chocolate. No bananas! It’s all chocolate;/ not what I was hoping for… if I did it again? I’d cut the chocolate chips in half… If not by 2/3.
Hi Kristen! I come from a household where the more chocolate, the better haha! If you don’t enjoy it as much or want more of the banana bread flavor feel free to reduce it or leave it out! It still tastes amazing! Thank you! xTieghan
This is an amazing recipe! Thanks! Even though I changed a couple of things, it was delicious! I only had 1 1/2 cups bananas so I added a chopped up apple (that needed to be eaten!). Then I baked the batter in a muffin tin (10 muffins) for 30 minutes. Yum!!!
Thank you so much Karla! That is so great that it turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Thank you for the recipe, my kids love banana bread. I made this recipe last night. I loved the texture of the bread but felt it needed a little more sweetness to it, I may add more honey to it next time.
Thank you so much Melissa! I am so glad this recipe turned out well for you! I hope you love it more with some added honey! xTieghan
this is so good!! super easy and minimal dishes make it even better! we didn’t have enough honey so I used maple syrup instead and I sprinkled shredded coconut on top which toasted up as it baked in the oven. will definitely make this again and again!
Hi Alissa! I am so glad this bread turned out so well for you! Thank you so much for trying it! xTieghan
Hi!! Hoping to make this tomorrow, do you know how it would be without the chocolate chunks?
Hi there! The bread works great without the chocolate. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Delicious and so simple. I didn’t have any chocolate chunks/chips on hand, so I used Hershey’s cinnamon baking chips instead. ?
Ooo yum!! I am so glad you liked this Denise!! xTieghan
Good morning! Beautiful book and Instagram, and great recipes-thank you so much! I don’t have a comment, but I do have a question. Can you tell me a good way to ripen my bananas until they are black (my grocery store does not keep the over-ripe ones), where I could suppress the smell? I am very sensitive to odors (some give me migraines), and I don’t have a separate spot to keep them while they turn. Any tricks or tips? Thank you so much in advance. I can’t wait to try this bread!! Your bread/pizza dough is amazing, and so is your recipe for Naan! Have a great Wednesday! ❤️
Hey Becky! Have you tried putting the bananas in a brown paper paper bag? That will help them ripen and help to not release any odors too! Please let me know if you have any other questions. hope this helps! Thank you!! xTieghan
I can’t believe how incredibly moist this loaf was! I used the batter in my mini loaf pan from pampered chef. I baked for 30 min and they turned out perfect. I also added ground flaxseed to the recipe for added fibre boost.
Thank you so much Gillian! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This bread was yummy. Tasted hearty 🙂
I am really glad you enjoyed this Julie! Thank you! xTieghan
I made this bread today using Bobs Red Mill all purpose gluten free flour. My family ate half the loaf within 15 minutes of it coming out of the oven!
Wow that is so amazing! I am so glad you all enjoyed this Abby! xTieghan
Made this tonight and it turned out so well! I love that it was one bowl and so easy. Two notes:
#1. I poured my oil into measuring cup and then added the honey to take it up to 1/2 cup—it makes it so easy to slip the honey out!
#2. Down here at sea-level (I’m in Vancouver!) this took only 40 minutes at 350F to bake fully—I had set the timer for 50 minutes but it smelled done and I was glad I pulled it.
Great recipe though! I made it with semi-sweet chocolate chips and it was moist and just lightly sweet. Will make again 🙂
Thank you so much Lynn! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This is so good! I made it and sliced it thick then grilled the slices on a griddle with butter and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Such a good recipe, moist, perfect texture and Not overly sweet. Love it, definitely saving this one!
Thank you so much Alison! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Ok, so the first time I made this, I only had a tiiiiiiny bit of coconut oil, and had to substitute something else. It was meh. Nothing to write home about. I got some more coconut oil and tried it again, this time using 4-5 old bananas and the coconut oil and WOW. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Even if you’re not a coconut oil fan, use it. You don’t taste it, but it helps give a great texture and moisture to the bread. Don’t substitute! Recipes call for certain ingredients for a reason. Serve warm with some salted Kerrygold butter, and it’s absolutely delish.
Hi Brigit! I am so glad this recipe turned out so well for you! Thank you so much for your comment! xTieghan
Seriously amazing! I didn’t have quite enough honey, so I did put a little sugar in the mix- but otherwise I followed the recipe exactly and it was AMAZING! Smelled so good, moist and delicious. Winner recipe! My new “go-to” banana bread! Thanks!
Thank you so much for trying this! I am so glad it turned out so well for you Emily! xTieghan
Made this last night & it’s amazing! Love that there’s no sugar; just all natural oils and sweeteners (well, sans the chocolate chips!) and still so DELICIOUS! Thanks for this!
Thank you Madison! So glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I’ll admit I was slightly skeptical about this recipe only using 1/4 cup of honey but it was delicious! I think the key is to use bananas that are very overripe so that their natural sweetness comes through. We love this banana bread and it’s going to be my new go-to recipe!
I am so glad you enjoyed this Bethany! Thank you so much for trying it! xTieghan
Made this tonight and definitely didn’t wait for it to cool!! I made it with w/w flour so it’s much darker than yours but it is delicious! I love that it doesn’t have sugar in it and the amount of honey isn’t crazy. This will be my go-to banana bread recipe! Thank you!!
Thank you so much Denise!! I am so glad this turned out so well for you and hope it continues to! xTieghan
This is in the oven, smells incredible ?
Thank you Charlotte! xTieghan
I was walking around my kitchen at 5:40 this morning and noticed 4 very ripe bananas…considered tossing them because I’m away for the wknd…but then remembered it’s my co-worker’s birthday! The post for this recipe seeped into my sleepy brain so I quickly looked it up, confirmed I had all ingredients, and thought “yeah, I can throw this together and it can be in the oven while I get ready for work!” And that’s exactly what I did! Super quick and simple! Just got to work and delivered my still-warm-out-of-the-oven present (which my co-worker graciously shared with me and others) and HOLY BANANAS, IS THIS FREAKIN DELISH!!!! Total perfection from color to texture to sweetness to massive flavor. I feel like it’s MY birthday 🙂
Wow what perfect timing!! I am so glad this turned out so well for you and your coworker! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Deliberately over bought bananas last week so that some would go brown and I could make this…I wasn’t disappointed, recipe was easy and super delicious! Thank you!
Thank you so much Verity! I am so glad this turned out so well for you!! xTieghan
I made it using flaxseeds instead of eggs. It was really yummy and can’t wait to make it again!!! Thank you for this great recipe!
Thank you so much! That is so amazing to hear! xTieghan
Made this today, as I had everything in my pantry. It is delicious, thank you for sharing!
Thank you for trying this Megan! I am so glad it turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Could you use another oil instead of coconut?
Sure! You can use olive oil or canola oil. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Can you substitute coconut or almond flour? Cx
Hey Carly! I recommend a GF flour blend instead for best results as I have not had success using only coconut/almond flour. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Love love LOVED this recipe! Perfectly crispy on the outside and light, fluffy, and moist inside. Will be making again for sure!
Thank you so much Syndee! xTieghan
Can you use regular whole-wheat flour for whole-wheat pastry flour?
Hi! Yes, that will be great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Hi haven’t tried this but I have my bananas ready! Can I add shredded coconut to this too or will it burn?
HI! I love this idea! I would add 1/2 cup coconut flakes. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Enjoying a piece now! Delicious!
Thank you so much Laura! xTieghan
I don’t have enough honey to use. Can I substitute granulated or light brown sugar and what would the amount for each? Quarantined with lots of brown bananas and using only what’s in my pantry.
Hi! Yes, you can use either sugar. I would use 1/4 cup. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Made this! Actually I made muffins instead of a loaf but delicious! Thank you for sharing this recipe my dear! I found my happy place. xoxo Iris
I am so glad this turned out so well for you Iris! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
Sorry. I forgot to rate the recipe! Definitely 5 stars. I will make this every time I have bananas!
I’m gf. I have all sorts of flour-oat, almond, bobs red mill gf flour, arrow root. Any suggestion? Would love to make with my 4 year old tomorrow!
Hi Sara! for best results I recommend using a GF flour blend or mixing your GF flours together to make your own blend. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Loooove all your recipes! Wanted to check if I could substitute the baking soda for baking powder and what the ratio would be? Many thanks Lize
Hi Lize,
I have not tested this, but I would recommend using 1 1/2 teaspoons. Hope this helps!
I had a few overripe bananas on hand and wanted to make a knockout banana bread. Then I opened up Instagram and the FIRST post on my feed is HBH banana bread! It was a sign. I quickly whipped up this recipe and oh my gosh, it is most definitely the best banana bread I’ve ever had! It is moist, with lots of banana flavor, and you don’t feel totally guilty eating it with the healthier ingredients! My husband loved it and keeps asking everyday when I’ll make more! We also shared with our neighbor who was also a huge fan. Will definitely be making this again! Thank you!
Haha that is such a sign!! I am so glad you tried this and it turned out so well Laura! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Hi! I only have 3 bananas. Would you recommend still giving this recipe a try? Would you make any adjustments? Was thinking of adding a 1/4 cup of plain Greek yogurt.
Hi Liz,
I would leave everything the same and just use the 3 bananas, you should be totally fine!
Made this today with frozen blueberries and it was perfect. Thank you for the great recipe!!
Thank you so much Olivia! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Mine turned out very dark brown instead of typical banana bread color – used 1/2 cup whole wheat and 1 cup APF. Sweetener was 1/4 cup honey and I added 1/4 cup white sugar because you know…. sugar.
What you think went wrong with color?
Hi Kala,
The addition of the sugar could have caused the darkness in your bread. So sorry about this!
So easy and delicious!!! I added walnuts 🙂
Thank you so much Taylor! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Do yourself a favor and make this! I’m normally skeptical of the “no sugar” recipes but the honey makes the bread the perfect sweetness. I baked my bread for 60 minutes and it is a beautiful golden brown.
Thank you so much Simone! xTieghan
I made it but I think I over baked mine. I followed recipe baked for 50 mins, I took it out right away and place it on a plate. I baked mine in a breville toaster oven though. Any suggestions on how long should I bake it for? Thanks! Other than over baking it I like the recipe.
Hi Wil,
So sorry about this! Next time I would highly recommend not using a toaster oven. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
This is delicious!!!! Had a few ripe bananas that I was about to throw away. I’ve been following the Instagram page and run into this recipe. I skipped over it: I’m definitely NOT a baker, and I’ve ruined so many baking recipes that I’ve tried over the years. I ran into the recipe again, and the bananas were still on my counter. Since we’re in quarantine I say “What the heck. I can at least try.” Not only was it easy to follow… it turned out delicious!! Both my kids had questionable faces as I was mixing the recipe. When the aroma filled the house and everyone came out from hiding and could not resist eating it!! If I can make this bread, YOU can definitely make it too!!
Hi Mariela! I am so glad you decided to try this and it turned out so well for you! Thank you! xTieghan
This is so good..I had to slightly alternate the recipe due to lockdown. Had half of the amount of bananas needed so used half of all measurements and made banana-choc muffins instead! Turned out to be 6 small ones. Just replaced all-purpose flour & baking soda with self-raising flour and voila! De-lish!
Thank you so much Sofia! I am so glad you enjoyed this one! xTieghan
Amazing! So easy and comes out perfect! Can’t wait to try more recipes! I’m obsessed with halfbakedharvest!
Thank you so much Katie!! That is so amazing to hear! xTieghan
Absolutely delicious banana bread and all without refined sugar! The measurements work out perfectly for me and the bread comes out super nice and moist every time. Would absolutely recommend! Thank you for sharing the recipe!
Thank you for trying it! I am glad it turned out so well for you Katie! xTieghan
Wow! I’ve just made this and it is delicious. My first banana bread ever but not the last! I’ve used sugar instead of honey and butter instead of coconut oil because we’re in lockdown and it’s what I had. Thanks for such a great recipe 🙂
Hi Maria! That sounds amazing! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
Hello! I made this last night and it was eaten up by my kids by the time I returned home today. Absolutely fantastic. This is now my most favorite banana bread recipe. I made it with melted butter, I was out of coconut oil and I have to say I will make it with butter every time. It was moist, perfectly sweetened and wonderfully chocolaty. I am a Colorado native and I am so glad you share your craft with us, thank you!
Thank you so much Thomene! I am so glad you have been enjoying my blog and recipes! xTieghan
Can I sub flax eggs ???
Hi Tina! I have not tried this recipe with flax eggs, but I have heard they work well in recipes! If you try it, let me know! Thank you! xTieghan
I made this yesterday and it was unreal!!! I added a bit of shredded to coconut to the top and batter but otherwise didn’t change anything and it was absolutely delectable. Thank you for yet another great recipe!
Thank you so much Heather! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Hello! I don’t have coconut oil but still want to make this and was planning on using butter. I want a coconut taste though so what could I use for that?
Hi Brooke,
You could add some shredded coconut to get the flavor. I hope you love the recipe! xTieghan
So yummy and not too sweet (just the way I like it). Bonus points for a recipe that I have everything on hand to make, no grocery trip required!
I am so glad this turned out so well for you Haley! No grocery store trip is the best right now! xTieghan
Turned out excellent! So easy to make, does not require more than the one bowl and the measuring cup, and smells and tastes amazing!
I did substitute the 1/4 cup coconut oil with 1 stick unsalted butter, though.
Hi Mir! I am glad this turned out so well for you! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
Oh, I also used baking powder instead of the baking soda (same amount as in recipe) and still turned out perfect.
Thank you for this recipe! It was delicious! I added a scant half cup of sweetened coconut as I really wanted to thin out my freezer. It was terrific. As I didn’t have whole wheat pastry flour, I used half white whole wheat and AP.
Amazing! I am glad this one ended up turning out so well for you Rosella! xTieghan
I just made this! Love it. Really tasty and easy to make! I didn’t have coconut oil, so I substituted butter. Also I didn’t have a 9×5 pan, so I used an 8×8 and cooked for a shorter time! Still turned out delicious! Thanks!
Thank you so much! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Perfection! Just the right amount of sweetness and not too oily like some banana bread recipes. Subbed GF flour mix. The entire loaf was gone in one day. Thank you!
Wow that is so great! I am so glad this turned out so well for you Deanna! xTieghan
Is there anyway to sub the honey for granulated sugar? I really want to make this today, I just don’t have enough honey! 😫
Hi Emily! Yes you can use granulated sugar! I would use 1/4 cup! I hope you love this recipe! xTieghan
Hey 🙂
I am planning on making this today but my bananas aren’t overly ripe. Do you know a trick to make them brown and sweet fast, maybe in the microwave? 😀
Or do you think it will taste good even if my bananas aren’t as soft and sweet as they actually should be?
Thanks for your help! I LOVE every recipe on your blog and I think they are the reason my boyfriend fell in love with me 😀
Hi Maike! You can put them in the oven to help ripen them faster. Do they have brown spots on them at all? Because if so they should still work well, you just need to mash them more! Please let me know! xTieghan
PS: Haha I am glad you are liking my recipes, but your boyfriend definitely fell in love with the person you are!!
My new all time favorite banana bread! This will forever be my go to recipe. Sweet and moist just perfect!!!
Thank you Melanie!! xTieghan
This looks delicious! I only have 00 flour at the house from making pizza, will that work okay in this?
Hi Julia,
Yes this will work. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Omg this is in the oven and it smells so good, I am struggling to wait! Swapped 1/4 cup of the chocolate chips for toasted coconut, can’t wait to eat it! Thanks Tieghan!
Thank you so much Jana! xTieghan
Ok I just have to say this is THE BEST banana bread recipe and possibly just bread recipe I have ever made! And it’s so easy!!! Everyone can do it, I even made my mom make it and she doesn’t bake. 🙂
Thank you so much Mary! I am so glad you have been loving this bread! xTieghan
Hi! Loved this recipe! Do you think I can make it as is and pour the batter into muffin cups? Or do I need to use a different muffin recipe? Thanks!
Hi Mary! Yes, I think that should work great! I would bake 15-18 minutes! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
New favorite banana bread! Took your advice and tasted it straight from the oven, totally worth it!!
Haha I am SO glad this turned out so well for you, Jordan! Thank you so much! xTieghan
If I use butter does it have to be completely melted? Or can it be super soft room temp? I don’t bake often so I’m not sure if it will make a big difference!
Hi Cait,
Soft, room temperature butter will work! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Followed this recipe exactly and it was amazing! Not too sweet which I liked but definitely sweeter than I expected considering there was only 1/4 cup of honey. I live in Australia so I did 175 degrees Celcius for 55 mins in case any fellow metrics were wondering My only suggestion would be to make more than one as it went so quickly!
I am really glad this recipe turned out so amazing for. you, Rachel!! Thank you so much for trying it! xTieghan
Just cut into it after making this morning and it’s delicious! This will be a new go-to banana bread for me
Thank you so much Vanessa! xTieghan
Such an amazing recipe! I tried it today – perfect for a rainy cold evening and the kitchen smells wonderful while the bread is being baked. When I checked after 30mts of baking – I could see the top of the bread has started burning/started getting a black color and so I took the risk of taking out at 30mts..I rested for another 30mts and sliced into it..the bread tasted really soft and yummy, but the chocolate was oozing a lil here and there..it didnt had any burnt taste though. I used middle rack for baking and at 180 degree Celsius. Should it have been at 175? I am not sure.
Hi! I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe!! If it started to brown before the middle cooked through, I would suggest tenting foil over the top of it and continue baking! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Hi. I never baked anything before, but am going to try this recipe. I got a free non-stick bread pan when I bought some new cookware. Do I have to grease this pan and, if so, with what do I grease it? The coconut oil?
Hi Thomas,
Yes I would use coconut oil to grease the pan or butter. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions. xTieghan
Is it OK to use self rising flour in this recipe instead? I love it but am out of AP
Hi Maeve,
Yes that will work! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Could I use whole wheat flour for this instead of whole wheat pastry?
Hi Yaminah,
Yes that will work! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Added extra chocolate chips and it was a hit! So moist and delicious! Love this recipe.
Thank you Cristina!! xTieghan
This is my go-to banana bread recipe. I’ve probably made it 10-15 times, and it is delicious every time! I add a little peanut or almond butter on top in the mornings for some extra protein. My husband enjoys blueberries in his banana bread, so one day I will sub the chocolate chips for blueberries. However, I am addicted to the pools of chocolate in this bread! I add a little more chocolate than what is called for. Thank you, Tieghan! 🙂
Thank you so much Kara! The more chocolate the better haha! xTieghan
This was delicious! My kids devoured it! (I helped.)
Thanks for another winner! xo
Thank you so much Chelsey! xTieghan
This is my FAVORITE banana bread recipe as of today. It’s easy, delicious, and of course makes your house smell great! I made mine into muffins for easy grab and go breakfast / snacks. You need to try this recipe.
Thank you so much Bailee! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
this recipe is so delicious ! and super easy to make ! thanks for the recipe !! i’ll definitely be making this again !
Thank you so much Emma! xTieghan
Made this last week. DELISH!! Substituted olive oil for the coconut oil and it was still good! Great recipe 🙂
Thank you so much Ashley!! xTieghan
Damnit girl! This was another winner. I’ve never made banana bread before, and I’m so happy I found this. I made it in a muffin form and it was lovely. I had two large banana that I used that were ripe but not overly ripe. It was super moist and absolute perfection.
Love that!! Thank you so much Rachel! xTieghan
This bread is so luxurious and decadent!! Like having dessert for breakfast.
Thank you so much! xTieghan
My husband is gluten free & I have nearly every gf flour in my pantry — would you recommend any gf flour/combination to make this recipe gf? Thanks!
Hey Alyssa,
I would use an equal amount of your favorite gf flour. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Hi! We just moved to Denver and I love this recipe. Do you recommend making any adjustments for the altitude? Still trying to nail down the baking here 😉 Thanks!
Hi Kendall! My recipes should work great for you! Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with! Always here! xTieghan
This recipe is insanely good and one of the best things I’ve ever made. I doubled it and it worked out just fine.I will definitely be making this one again!
Thank you so much Dina! That is so amazing to hear! xTieghan
This is so good!
Thank you Nancy! xTieghan
Maybe you could also add the metric measures to your recipes? That would be great ❤️
Hi! I don’t use metric measurements, so it is a bit hard for me… I will try! xTieghan
Made this recipe but with olive oil. So moist and the perfect balance of sweetness with the dark choc chips! Will definitely become a go-to recipe for me 🙂
Thank you Ariana! xTieghan
I just made this and it’s super yummy! I also love your zucchini almond butter chocolate chunk bread. The only thing is that I feel like I can taste the baking soda just slightly. Is there anything I can do to minimize that? I make sure to whisk the flour, salt and baking soda well before adding to the other ingredients. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for all your yummy recipes! I’m going to try your enchilada rice skillet tonight for dinner. Can’t wait to try it!
Hey Mel,
Thanks for giving the recipes a try. The only thing I can think of that would be causing you to taste the baking soda is the expiration date. Is it still good? Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Any suggestions about how to keep the entire bread moist? I have made this numerous times! My children and husband love it ( I make it weekly) but I feel like the two ends are very dry and not as moist to eat. I have been cooking on convection oven so I think I will try traditional today and see if that makes a difference. And maybe pull out a little early? Any suggestions?
Hey Christine,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try. I am wondering if it is getting over baked? Try to cut down on the baking time a bit:) I hope this helps for next time! xTieghan
Made this morning with some very ripe bananas that it was either bin or bake with them! So glad the banana bread won! Banana bread is something that is very popular in New Zealand and Australia but I have to say this was the nicest one I have made! I would definitely make again. Thanks for the recipe!
Aw that is so amazing to hear! Thank you so much for trying this, Jane!! xTieghan
I only had 2 overripe bananas so I halved the recipe and used a muffin tin instead of a loaf pan. The muffins came out perfectly cooked after 20 minutes, and I made 9 of them (again, from just using half of the recipe). I have made 3 other banana bread recipes during quarantine (none of the others have been HBH), and I can sincerely say that this has been my favorite so far. Not too dense yet still moist, I will absolutely make these again. Thank you, Tieghan!
Thank you, Blayre! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I am out of honey but I have maple syrup, brown sugar, and agave syrup. Which do you think would be the best substitute for honey?
Hey Lynn,
I would use maple syrup. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I made this today. It was excellent and definitely sweet enough with semi-sweet chocolate. I used one cup WW flour and half a cup AP. I think the coconut oil was a great alternative to butter. I would definitely make this again.
Thank you so much Tara! I am really glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Delicious and not too sweet! I subbed browned butter for the coconut oil. I cannot stop eating this banana bread! It was totally worth the 30 minute wait to try a slice! 😉
I am so happy this recipe turned out so well for you, Kayla! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
I LOVE this bread as a sugar free option! Question- if I wanted to make it “pumpkin spice”, could I add pumpkin without changing the consistency of the bread?
Hey Diana,
So sorry I have not tested this, so I am unsure what what the results would be. I would recommend trying this recipe: https://dev.halfbakedharvest.com/cinnamon-swirl-chocolate-chip-pumpkin-butter-bread/
I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I’ve made this a few times now and it is just SO GOOD. The only banana bread recipe I’ll make now! YUM.
Thank you so much Jenna! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I have been making a recipe my mom uses for banana bread for years that we all have loved. Tried this out tonight and OMG. It’s seriously to die for delicious. Just texted my mom that there is a new family banana bread recipe we will be using! Loved it!
Hey Natalie,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am so glad you enjoyed! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
The bread looks yummy, I am so exciting, because I never try this type of bread. I am going to try this in wood fired oven.
Hey there!
I hope you love the recipe! xTieghan
So so so so good!!! Light and delicious! My new favorite banana bread recipe! And so easy too!!
Hey Stephanie,
Thanks so much for trying the bread, I am thrilled it worked out for you! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Best banana bread recipe! So delicious!
Thanks so much Lisa! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Was an absolute HIT with the family!!
Hey Anita,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am so glad it was enjoyed! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Delicious, especially when served warm, about 20 minutes out of the oven!
Hey Natalie,
Thanks so much for giving the bread a try, I am so glad the recipe was enjoyed! xTieghan
Love this so much.
Thanks so much Cyndi! xTieghan

Hi Tieghan! I love all of your recipes so much and this one looks so delicious! Would I be able to add some green yogurt to the recipe to make it extra moist or would that interfere with the other ingredients? Thanks so much!!
Hey Jacqueline,
Thanks so much for your kind message! I have never tried adding greek yogurt here and am not sure it is totally necessary. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Is there notational /calorie info?
Hey there,
The calorie inför is listed above the ingredient list. I hope you enjoy the recipe! xTieghan
This was delicious. Followed the recipe down to a T. Just added a few crushed walnuts with it! Was a winner, especially with the gooey chocolate chips! Thank you so much @halfbakedharvest.

Does anyone know is you can substitute coconut flour for the whole wheat pastry flour???
Thank you
Hey Deb,
So sorry I have not tested this recipe with coconut flour, I would recommend using GF flour. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you haver any other questions! xTieghan
So delicious and very easy! You were right, it’s better with butter and honey!

OH my. I just made this because I saw your Banana Coconut Cake on Instagram but I didn’t have the ingredients to make the frosting! It is divine! I added the coconut like the other recipe, but the rest was mostly the same. I likely won’t eat it all in the next few days, do you think it would freeze well? Thanks!
Hey Meaghan,
I am thrilled you enjoyed the recipe. Thanks for giving it a try! Yes, it will freeze well. xTieghan
I made this the other day and loved it!! I was wondering if I have to make any changes to the recipe should I bake it next time using a muffin tin?
Hey Jessica,
Thank you so much for making the recipe, I am thrilled it was enjoyed! For muffins I would reduce your baking time and start checking for doneness at 25 minutes. Have a great weekend:) xTieghan
Another great recipe, so good with the honey. Really delicious bananna bread, made a few banana breads over lockdown (I’m in the UK) but this was a family fav xxx
Hey Rebecca,

This is my go-to banana bread recipe! Everyone loves it! This recipe is SO SIMPLE, no added sugar (besides the dark chocolate chips but who doesn’t like chocolate added in) and they can easily be made into muffins! When baking muffins I just reduce the time to 18-20 mins. LOVE THESE!

This is currently baking in my oven! I didn’t have overly ripe bananas but they were definitely ripe. Can’t wait to try it 🙂
