Lemony Garlic Chicken and Orzo Soup.
Lemony Garlic Chicken and Orzo Soup, also known as cozy winter soup that’s light and healthy. Caramelized garlic, fresh herbs, lots of lemon, kale, and chicken broth all make for a tasty, warming soup. There’s even some orzo pasta for good measure, because I do believe that every good soup needs carbs. This is quick, easy, and SO DELICIOUS. You can make it on the stove or in the crockpot, either way it’s going to be good. The aroma will fill your home with the cozy smell of homemade chicken soup…that’s heavy on the garlic…and the lemon. So the best kind of chicken soup!

Please tell me that you guys are still very much enjoying soup? Because over here, it’s still very much soup weather, with temperatures dipping into the negatives overnight. Surely soup weather, right?
In all seriousness, over the last few months I’ve been making a new soup recipe every other week. You’d think I might start to get sick of it, or run out of new ideas. But nope, soup is still exciting me. Crossing my fingers you feel the same way.
This is actually a soup I made a few weeks ago over Christmas. I quickly realized that I needed to have a large batch of something continually simmering away on the stove. That way there was always something for people to snack on throughout the day. What better than chicken soup? It’s the perfect thing to warm up to after coming in from outside. And this chicken soup also happened to do wonders for the cold that many family members seemed to have caught. So not only is this soup good, but will also help to fight off your winter cold.
Cool. Cool.

I don’t know if you guys remember this lemon butter chicken and orzo that I made last year. But it was the inspiration behind the making of this soup. I can’t tell you how much I love that skillet chicken. It’s probably one of my more favorite skillet recipes. I even made it the other day on Instagram. It’s so good.
Anyway, I love the flavors of that dish so much that I decided to turn them into a healthy soup. Which is where this recipe comes in.
It’s everything I love so much about that skillet chicken, but in soup form. Plus the addition of caramelized garlic and a little parmesan too…
Just as good, maybe better. Just depends what kind of mood you’re in!

Start out by searing the chicken in some olive oil, then add the garlic to caramelize it. I LOVE cooking the garlic slowly in the oil and allowing it to become soft, fragrant, and golden brown. It takes that garlicy bite out of the garlic and mellows it out, turning it buttery and sweet. Yummm.
Once you’ve finished searing, add all the remaining ingredients and cook until the chicken is cooked through and falling apart. I prefer to use bone-in chicken, as it adds flavor to the broth, buy you can also use boneless.
I flavored the broth with fresh herbs, plenty of lemon, and a little parmesan. It’s perfectly light and almost spring like, but still cozy enough for winter.
For the orzo, I think it’s easiest to boil it outside of the soup. I know a lot of recipes will tell you to just boil the pasta in the soup. But if you have leftovers, the soup with soak up all the broth, which is a major bummer. SO, I boil the pasta separately, and then add it to each bowl of soup. The heat from the broth will warm the pasta, making leftovers great for lunch the next day.
And on the topic of orzo, I am obsessed. Ever since last year when I made the lemon butter chicken and orzo I cannot stop using it in recipes. It’s my favorite…see these stuffed peppers, these lamb meatballs, these scallops, and this grilled zucchini.
Yup. Obsessed.
With plenty of snow in the forecast, I’m thinking it’s time for another round of this soup. It’s been a few weeks since I made it, and writing this post now has me craving a bowl.
I’ll take mine with extra orzo, lemon, and probably a sprinkle of parmesan too. Oh, and a side of crusty bread. Always bread with soup. Always.
Hope you guys enjoy and happy Wednesday!

Add the broth, parmesan rind, and a pinch of red pepper flakes. Cover and cook on high pressure for 8 minutes.

This sounds so yummy!! Love the amount of garlic cloves, finally a number I don’t have to automatically double ? Only question is, I seriously hate Dill, which herb would you recommend to substitute?
HI there! I would just omit the dill and use parsley. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
I love chicken with lemon flavor ! I’m a huge fan of your chicken orzo recipe so this one is expected to be a winner too! It’s cool that you actually add the lemon juice to the broth when cooking. It’s something I would have never tried.
Here in Spain it’s quite common to avoid using store bought broth when making soups. Actually, the whole idea of the soup is start by making a good broth yourself, so I will probably start the recipe by making the base broth and then adding all the rest.
Can’t wait to see the results! Lemony soups are so cool and different from the “usual” ones. Love love it!
I hope you love this soup, Susanna! Thank you so much!
YES TO SOUP!
Always always always!
I was literally just telling my hubby I wanted to make a brothy soup with noodles in it so this is going on the “to make list” for next week.
YES! I hope you love this recipe Andrea!
This looks delicious. I think I’m going to try making this with tofu instead of chicken. It’ll be perfect for the winter!
Thank you so much Kayleigh! I hope you love this!
Hi Tieghan,
Love your blog follow it every day, but I was just wondering because I guess I can’t wait when
will you be showing your new barn and when will you be setting yourself up to be working from there
can’t wait!
Hi Mary! Some of the furniture still has not been delivered, so I am waiting until it is to take and post photos! Thank you!
Hello, I’m in the process of doing this recipe, and noticed it didn’t specify when to put in the bay leaf? Can you let me know. Thank you
HI! Add the bay leaf with the chicken broth. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
It’s pouring rain here and I’m craving all the soup – such a perfect dinner idea!
Thank you so much Laura!
Hi Tieghan. I made this tonight and wouldn’t change a thing. It was delicious, so much flavor! I simmered it on the stove for an hour before taking the chicken out to shred it. We slurped it up with grilled cheese sandwiches. ? Will definitely make again! Thank you!
Hi Anne! I am so glad you loved this soup! And with grilled cheese.. YES! Thank you so much!
This looks delicious. I think I’m going to try making this with tofu instead of chicken. It’ll be perfect for the winter!
Perfect! I hope you love this!
If you are using a crockpot, do you still add the kale at the very end rather than cooking the kale with the chicken in the broth from the beginning?
Thank you!
Hey Wendy, yes add the kale toward the end of cooking, about the last 30 minutes or so. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
This looks delicious, but I’m not usually a fan of dill. Do you think it’s necessary or do you have a substitute herb? I look forward to making this.
HI! I Would just omit the dill and use fresh parsley or basil! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Can this recipe be translated for the instant pot?
Sure! Saute the chicken and garlic and then cook on high for 8 minutes. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Hey!
Really want to try this but wonder if it can be done in the crock pot? Got any suggestions for timing??
Thanks.
Matt
Hey Matt, crockpot directions are listed in the recipe right below the stove top. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Got to love Roasted Garlic! Especially when it is used in soups!
Thank you so much Shelby!
Made this soup yesterday. My partner HATES soups. Today he asked me the name of the soup since he was bragging about ti to his co-workers.! LOVE
That is so amazing! I am so glad you both loved this soup, Caren!
Delicious and easy! Perfect for a winter night.
Thank you so much Arielle!
I LOVE this soup – had it without the orzo and added the zest from the lemons -I used two thighs and one breast so great – thanks!
Thank you Tracy!
Hi Tieghan! I made this yesterday and LOVE it!! I added lemon zest and ginger since I didn’t have sage. Perfect for a cold snowy NJ weekend. I adore you and your blog ? Thank you for sharing your recipes!!! Xo
Thank you so much Amy! I am so glad you loved this!
Another win! As someone who hates onion and celery, it was nice to not have to make any edits! [that isn’t a judgement statement against recipes with them, I know it’s my issue (: ] This was perfect for a cold snap and we’re very much looking forward to the leftovers.
Hi Ann! I am so glad you loved this soup! Thank you for trying it!
It’s so good! Was a little scared of the 8 cloves of garlic and juice of 2 lemons. The flavours all worked and made for a hearty soup. Why did I have doubts?! Thank you!
I am so glad it turned out amazing for you! Thank you!
Can you freeze the leftovers?
HI! I have not frozen this, but I am sure it freezes really well! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
I made the Lemony Garlic Chicken and Orzo soup last night. Fantastic! I was not sure about the garlic so only added 8 cloves. I sure wish I had added more! When you get one….so delicious! My house still smells great this morning from cooking this aromatic, healthy, yummy soup. Thanks for this recipe!
Thank you so much Patty!
I made this recipe last night and it turned out delicious. I substituted rice for the orzo since I’d don’t have any and limes instead of lemons. Ny family enjoyed it and I will definitely make it for them again.
Thank you so much Canty!
For the stove-top instructions, do you start to boil the water and then cook the orzo (let’s say 9 minutes) after step 3 or is it started earlier so that the orzo is done cooking at about the same time as step 3 is finished? If the orzo steps are after step 3, do you keep all the other stuff at a simmer the entire time it takes to boil the water and cook the orzo? Thanks!
Hey Dexter! I recommend cooking the orzo during step 3 while the chicken is cooking. This was everything should be done around the same time. Does this make sense? Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Do you smash the garlic clove so it’s still whole or into an almost ‘paste’?
I Smash the cloves so that they are still whole. No need to smash them into a paste. They will soften in the soup. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I made this soup in the crockpot today. It took just a few minutes to throw together and when I came home my house smelled so warm and cozy. I finished it up with lemon, kale and orzo and was not disappointed. This is my favorite chicken soup and my favorite recipe from Half Baked Harvest so far. The lemon and big chunks of carrot were such a nice combination of flavors. Super easy and super delicious weeknight recipe!
Thank you so much Windy! I am so glad you loved this soup and it was perfect for a weeknight!
This was awesome ! Thanks ?
Thank you so much Bianca!
This recipe was delicious! I thought the prep was fairly simple and the broth turned out AMAZING with that Parmesan rind and lemon! I used spinach instead of kale since I’m not a fan of the taste of kale, and it worked great. Even my husband ate it who doesn’t like vegetables 🙂 It was the perfect warm cozy meal on a cold rainy evening. Can’t wait to make it again!
That is so amazing! I am so glad you all loved this and you found a way for him to eat vegetables! Thank you so much Kayla!
Another delicious recipe! Thank you! I made on the stove top, subbed spinach for the kale, forgot the bay leaf, nixed the dill and no rind because I didn’t have. Still wonderful! My 13 year old son loved (he loves most chicken soups) so I’ll be making again and again!
I am so glad you both loved this recipe, Teresa! Thank you so much!
Made this tonight and it was amazing!! Both my littles loved it too. My 16 month old who has gotten so weird with food lately even ate his whole bowl (kale include??) Can’t wait for leftovers tomorrow!
Thank you so much Meg! I am so glad your little ones loved this recipe!
Can you freeze the leftovers?
HI! Yes, the leftover freeze really well. I would freeze without the pasta, then addd the pasta after thawing. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
I tried the instant pot version and after the orzo had cooked there was no broth left? ??♀️ It was more like a pasta dish. Delicious, but not soup. ? Any suggestions?
Hey Jennie! How much broth did you use? At what point did you add the orzo and how long did you cook it for? Any info on how you made the recipe would be really helpful. Thank you!
Made this last night and it’s sooo good. It’s the perfect winter soup. My boyfriend even said, “Don’t tell my mom, but I like this more than her chicken soup.” ?
Thanks for another amazing recipe!
Wow that is so amazing! I am so glad you both loved this recipe!
This was delicious and so easy. The garlic brings it up a notch. I have already referred his recipe to my friends! Thank you!
Thank you so much Dana!
I have been obsessed with this soup as we are currently experiencing a polar vortex here in Minnesota. This soup is deeply satisfying and the lemon adds an extra dimension of warmth and brightness. It was popular in the house and I plan to make it again this evening.
That is so amazing! I hope you’re staying warm and the soup is helping!
You really got me with that soup! I wish we could eat them year round–okay, I get cold soups! I just get into the chopping process and the smells of all the ingredients becoming friends!
I love your photography and styling. If I could pick your brain for a second–my daughter is getting married in July. It’s outdoors and after the ceremony there is a cocktail hour outdoors as well. Many guests, but only 13 tall tables…a chance to mingle, I guess. I need to decorate the tables. Candles are a no go since it’s not dark. Flowers okay, but no nibbles because we can’t keep replenishing. I am doing monogrammed napkins and again flowers. Maybe mints? Why would you do???
I’d appreciate your help!
Jane
HI Jane! If you can, I’d make cookies for the tables! The lemon rose cookies I just shared would be so perfect and beautiful for a wedding. What a fun touch! Please let me know if you have any other questions. So glad you love this recipe! Thank you and congrats to your daughter! xTieghan
Just made this tonight in the instant pot. Delicious! I substituted spinach for the kale, but otherwise made the recipe just as it is. I will definitely make it again!
Hi Anissa! I am so glad you loved this recipe! Thank you so much for making it!
I made this last night for my family and simply omitted the orzo & the parm rind (we try to eat GF & DF). I put a generous helping of nutritional yeast in with a teaspoon of red miso paste to replace the umami taste of cheese. We all enjoyed it-except my daughter who didn’t like the lemon. Next time I’ll just pull her portion out before adding the lemon. ?????? It was so tasty!
I am so glad you all loved this Kristi! Thank you so much for making it!
Loved this recipe but found it to be too much orzo (I made it in my instant pot) next time I would probably cut the orzo amount in half, as it ended up absorbing a good amount of the broth!
I am so glad you loved this recipe, Hadley! Thank you! xTieghan
Made this on the stove top and it was super good! I loved the texture of the orzo instead of traditional pasta. It was such a warm soup, perfect for this crappy Utah weather.
Yes! Such a comfort food for a cold evening! I am so glad you loved this and I hope you’re staying warm! xTieghan
Best tasting soup ever! We drank up every drop. And had enough for two days dinner. Fabulous!
Thank you!
I am so happy to hear that! Thank you so much! xTieghan
How large is a serving?
Hi! I am unsure of what the exact amount of a serving size is. I would guess 1 1/2 to 2 cups. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
This recipe is a keeper! Outstanding! The entire family agreed. ?
That is so amazing to hear! Thank you so much Nancy! xTieghan
It’s flu season, so I made a big pot of this tonight, adding fresh ginger and turmeric for immunity support! Can’t wait to sip on this all week. Thanks for sharing it with us !! xx
Yes I love that! I am so glad you enjoyed this! xTieghan
Made this for a ladies’ night in tonight. Was looking for a lighter, healthy soup. This delivered. Loved the brightness of the extra lemon.
Thank you so much Rachel! xTieghan
This soup has become a favorite in our house! It’s perfectly balanced, filling but not heavy.
Looking forward to diving into your cookbook.
Thank you Lea! I am so glad you liked this! xTieghan
I love your recipes. Delicious. My daughter was just recently diagnosed with Celiac disease so the gluten free section is great but i’m confused. Orzo pasta isn’t gluten free. Correct?
Hi Antonella! I am so sorry about that. It is NOT gluten free and I will be sure to take it off the gluten free section. I hope you enjoy some other recipes and let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Unbelievably addictive! Everyone loves it.
Thank you so much. ?
Wow!! Thank you Holly! xTieghan
Hello! I am excited to make this but was wondering if I could add the chicken if it’s still slightly frozen?
Hi Christine! I am sure that will be fine, but I would cook the chicken and additional 10-15 minutes to ensure it’s cooked through. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I love using bone-in chicken – would you recommend skin on or off?
Hi Valerie! You can use skin on or off, but I guess I would use skin off. Either is great though! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Love this recipe , can I use regular kale instead of Tuscan kale ?
Hey Jen! Regular kale will be great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I am a Soup Person. Some people meal prep – I soup prep. This was hands down the BEST chicken noodle-ish soup I have ever made. The flavor is PHENOMENAL. It froze well in individual containers for me to take to work or reheat for dinner. Make it in the winter was kinda pricey because the fresh herbs were harder to come by but I just made it again in the summer and it’s still totally worth it. This is the soup you need on a cold winter day when you’re trying to beat a cold.
YES I love the idea of freezing this for winter. So perfect! Thank you so much Nicky! xTieghan
Hands down the best soup recipe ON THE INTERNET!! So good I made it twice in one week. The layers of flavor are unreal and so comforting. I can’t get enough!! I’ve forgotten the parm rind both times but still full of flavor. I’ve experimented with two edits – using chicken bone broth for the nutrients and adding rice to make it gluten free. Both rice and orzo versions are great! Thank you for this incredible recipe!!!
Thank you for trying this! SO glad you loved it so much! xTieghan
So delicious & comforting! However, one note for people wanting to try it in their Instant Pot — you might also want to follow the stove top recipe to boil the pasta separately before putting it in the soup? When I followed the Instant Pot directions and put in the orzo after the pressure cook, the pasta absorbed most/all of the liquid, and it was more like a pasta dish. Still delicious, but was hoping for soup heh. Looking forward to trying more of your soup recipes, Tieghan!
Hi Jane! I am so glad you still enjoyed this recipe! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
delicious! My husband is very picky and he loved this meal. I will add a little more lemon juice next time and do the entire 12 garlic clovesas they were so good. Thanks for creating such good food.
Thank you Marla! I am so glad you loved this! xTieghan
I made this recipe last week for my boyfriend and I who both got sick. I’m now making it for the second time because it is so good! Really simple to make and so flavourful, the garlic and lemon is great for the flu! I stove top version and took the chicken out after an hour simmering on medium and that was perfect. Thank you Tieghan for this recipe 🙂
I am so glad you both enjoyed this Cara! And I hope you are both feeling better! xTieghan
I’ve made this soup twice and it’s been so good both times!! And so easy in the instant pot! Thank you! Got your new cookbook for Christmas and can’t wait to try some recipes from it 🙂
I hope you love all of the recipes from the book! Thank you so much Gretchen! xTieghan
This was delicious! Thank you!
Thank you!! xTieghan
If I don’t have a Parmesan rind, should I add Parmesan when I put it all in the crock pot?
Hi Ashley! Just top the soup with grated parmesan instead. That will be great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
My very first IP meal and it was hands down, drop the mic delicious. I chose to cook the orzo separately. I doubled the parmesan rind only b/c I had 2, and quite frankly because it makes everything better :). Since I am watching my carbs when reheating on day 2 I added some leftover spaghetti squash and it was also delicious, colorful and full of texture. You are a gastronomic goddess! Thank you!
Haha you are too kind! Thank you so much Cathleen! xTieghan
So delicious and comforting! Thank you for sharing. Made it on a rainy day and it was a hit!
Wow yes! So glad you loved this recipe Mandi! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
My boyfriend and I now refer to this as “THE soup.” I’ve made it a few times and it’s amazing every single time !! It’s hearty, healthy, and we love the way the flavors come together- especially with the addition of lemon. Temperatures are dropping into the teens tonight and it’s the only thing we want to have for dinner. 🙂
Hi Kristen! Haha yes!! That is amazing! Thank you so much for trying this! xTieghan
Made some quesadillas on the side and yummmm this soup was perfect for our freezing day
Awh sounds so amazing! Thank you for trying this Emily! xTieghan
Looking forward to making your Lemony Garlic Chicken and orzo soup today! Our grocery store always labels kale “Kale” should I be concerned about it specifically being “Tuscan kale”? Also in place of kale, could one use spinach? I love your recipes can’t wait to taste! Thank you!
Hi Leah! No need to worry about the variety if kale. Just use what your grocery store carries. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Omg wow, I love this soup so much. I made it once a few weeks ago and since I’m already making it again it’s only right to comment and tell you how much I love it. I decided to try it with what I had on hand, so I went with spinach instead of kale, omitted the sage and the orzo, and added the juice of an extra lemon just for the hell of it. It was incredible, and I agree that it seems to kick a winter cold. Never in my life have I felt so passionate about soup. Thank you for creating this recipe!
Wow that is so amazing to hear! Thank you so much for trying this recipe Tessa! I hope you are feeling ok and staying warm! xTieghan
Hi! This sounds delish! Could brown rice be substituted for the orzo? I’m planning on making this in the crock pot, would the rice need to be pre-cooked? Thank you!
Hi! I am sure brown rice will be great. Love that idea! I would dry brown rice since it will be cooking all day. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Hi! Two more questions: How much parm rind do you use and I couldn’t find Tuscan Kale and my local store, is regular kale okay? Thank you!!
Hi Kimberly! Yes, it should work great! Please let me know how this turns out for you! xTieghan
Hi there! Love your recipes by the way- Is this a soup that you can freeze for later? I’m only cooking for 2 so I’m hoping to freeze the leftovers for another time. If so- how long will it last in the freezer?
Thanks!!
HI! Yes, this soup freezes great! Just add the orzo after freezing. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
New favorite soup recipe, so easy and tasty!
Thank you so much Victoria! So glad you are loving this one! xTieghan
I know a lot of people here like to comment without trying the recipe just to say the pics look good, but I have made this soup at least 5 times at this point (probably more) and I promise you it is perfect in every way. I used to be scared to sear the chicken on high heat bc my kitchen has no ventilation and my tiny apartment fills up with smoke and it freaks out my cat. To fix this I use regular olive oil instead bc it doesn’t smoke as easily as extra virgin. Then you can get that gorgeous golden charred look without the trauma. You can add a little extra virgin later with the carrots for some more flavor. I also season the chicken with a little chili powder pre-sear bc I like it spicy. I think it’s very necessary to let it cook for a few hours. It really brings out the flavor. And I like to zest the lemons too bc the added citrus really pops against the garlic. All in all, A+ I love this soup more than I could ever say. Thank u so much for blessing me 💗💕💗💕
I am really glad you have been loving this soup! Thank you for trying it and leaving a review! xTieghan
Just made this with my Thanksgiving turkey. Boiled the carcass and added the ingredients. My pot was way more than 4/6 servings, so I eyeballed the measurements. Its soooo yummy!!
I am so happy this turned out so well for you, Stephanie! Thank you! xTieghan
This soup is amazing! I cooked it in the instant pot last night – highly recommend!
The only issue I have is that the broth completely absorbed into the orzo/chicken/carrots/etc. – next time I make it should I just add more broth or what would be the best solution?
Hey Marlee,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try! Did you adjust the recipe at all? You could definitely add more broth next time. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Made this last night and it is now my favorite soup!! Made it just how the recipe stated except our chicken was precooked from another night. Absolutely delicious!!!
Thank you so much Sue! xTieghan
I made this for dinner tonight, and everyone in my house loved it! That never happens!
I am so happy to hear that! Thank you Katie! xTieghan
Hi Teigehn! I absolutely love this recipe. One note, it doesn’t say when to add in the bay leaf in the stovetop recipe – I assumed when the broth goes in but the recipe might need to be updated!
Thank you so much Kristin! xTieghan
I am excited to try this! My daughter has a dairy allergy – can I make it without the Parmesan? I wonder if the rind would be ok? Or do you suggest a substitution?
Hey Kathryn,
I would just skip the parmesan here. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Sooooo good and the dill made it so much more flavorful!! Only problem is now I have a ton of leftover fresh dill 😂
Hey Emily,
I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe, thanks so much for making it! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Hi there! This looks delicious! Any substitutes for Parmesan rind? Thank you.
Hey Angela,
You can skip the parmesan rind! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Hello!
Looks delicious, You put raw chicken into the crockpot?

10/10. Another hit from HBH!! This was so delicious and comforting and everything I want in a soup. I actually cooked the orzo the way you have in other recipes by toasting it in butter first and it gave it that extra little bit of a nuttier flavor that was a nice addition. 👌
Hey Joann,
I am so glad the recipe was enjoyed, thanks so much for giving it a try! xTieghan
I didn’t have a few of the ingredients like kale, and added celery but the actual soup broth and seasonings is near perfection! It is now one of our favorites and will be making again very soon. I make a lot of soups my husband loves and this went immediately into his top 5 favorites. So glad I tried it.
Hey Melissa,

Made this tonight and it was delicious! Only comment- I made the instant pot version and by the end there seemed to not be enough broth. I used 8 cups as directed, but wonder if the orzo soaked up too much? Should I add more next time? Thanks!
Hey Katherine,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, so sorry there did not seem to be enough broth, you can absolutely add more next time. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan

I don’t have a parmesan rind or dill on hand. Do you have any suggestions?
Hey Keely,
Skip the parm rind and use another herb that you enjoy. I hope you love the recipe! xTieghan
Perfect night on this cold dreary day. Love lemon in soup and paired with orzo and a hot crusty bread made for the perfect meal

Hi there! When you make this in the instant pot, do you manually release the pressure or let it come down naturally? Thanks!
