Oven Fried Southern Hot Honey Chicken.
This Oven Fried Chicken is a slightly healthier, and much easier, take on the famous Nashville Hot Chicken. Breaded in corn flakes, oven baked, and finished with a beyond perfect sweet and spicy honey butter sauce, this is a chicken dinner that’s sure to be loved by all!

So you guys, those sentences up there above this first photo? I know, they’re so cheesy, but let me explain some things about the food blogging world that others might not tell you. There’s this thing called SEO, and then there are your Google rankings. I will not get into details about what these really mean, because if I’m being honest, I’m still trying to figure them out in full myself.
Basically, all you need to know is that there is a certain way Google would like me to write out my blog post every single day. Yes, Google ranks how I write my blog, and yes, it’s annoying. So, why do I even care what Google thinks you ask? Well, it’s simple, I really want to share my recipes with as many of you as possible. I work so hard to create new and exciting recipes day in and out, and I want anyone who might be interested in finding them to see them.
When you search in Google, it’s Google who decides what shows up front and center. And you know how you get on Google’s good side? You listen to them, and write your blog post in a very straight forward, kind of boring, and impersonal way. It’s not that cool, and that’s just the truth.
What does all this mean? Well, it just means that sometimes I have to write some cheesy things within the post to stay on Google’s good side. Google would also prefer I limit my story telling. As you might guess, I’m not going to do that. I think one of the things that makes HBH unique is my stories, and how they connect to my recipes. I don’t want to lose that just because Google says I should.
Over the years I’ve learned that you just have to be YOU, and stick to what works for YOU. So I’m listening to Google to a point, but at the same time, I’m sticking with my own personal style. It’s all about balance, right?
I certainly think so…obviously.

Alright, my ranting is now done. Let’s chat about this chicken.
You guys might not know this, but I actually find cooking chicken to be a little boring, so when I do cook with chicken, I have to make sure it’s extra flavorful and delicious. Kind of like the way I do up my salads.
When my brother, Creighton was in town last week, I knew I needed a good chicken recipe to serve him. The man loves himself some fried chicken, so I thought I would throw him a curve ball and turn one of his favorite greasy foods into a healthier recipe that he’d love all the same.
Enter this southern fried hot honey chicken.

I swear, this is just as good as fried chicken. Bold, but it’s true.
The key is to soak the chicken in a little buttermilk before breading. The buttermilk tenderizes the chicken while adding flavor at the same time. From here, you’ll bread the chicken in crushed corn flakes seasoned with herbs, and then oven bake. It’s pretty simple and straight forward.
The flavor is all in the hot honey sauce. Oh this sauce, it’s genuinely just so good.
The sauce was inspired by the famous Nashville Hot Chicken. It’s spicy, but balanced with a touch of sweetness. The classic way to add sweetness to this spicy sauce is with brown sugar, but you guys know I prefer using honey whenever I get the chance, so I made a few swaps and came out with one of my favorite sauces to date.
As soon as the chicken comes out of the oven, brush the hot honey over the warm chicken and allow it to soak into the crunchy coating. Then eat.
It. Is. SO. GOOD.
And I swear, you can’t even tell it’s not fried.

When I finally had the chicken perfected, I sent the leftovers home with my brother knowing he’d love them. Thing is, you can’t trust brothers to do anything because the chicken somehow managed to get burnt in the oven while re-heating. Either he burned it or my dad did, the stories are unclear, but either way, no one got any of this delicious chicken…well at least not the way it was intended to be eaten.
YES. Totally serious. My family everyone. I love um, but man they cannot cook.
Oh well, bottom line is that this chicken is delicious and you really need to give it a try. Today, tomorrow, this weekend, or maybe even this summer. This chicken would be perfect for warm picnics and summer parties.
Or how about all of the above?

If you make this Oven Fried Chicken and love it, please be sure to leave a comment and/or give this recipe a rating! I love, love, love hearing from you guys and always do my best to respond to each and every one of you. Oh, and of course, if you do make this chicken, don’t forget to also tag me on Instagram so I can see! I love looking at the photos of recipes you all have made. It makes my day!

This Oven Fried Chicken is a slightly healthier, and much easier, take on the famous Nashville Hot Chicken. Breaded in corn flakes, oven baked, and finished with a beyond perfect sweet and spicy honey butter sauce, this is a chicken dinner that's sure to be loved by all!
Ingredients
- 2 pounds boneless chicken breasts or thighs (you can use skin on or off, but I used skin off)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 3 cups finely crushed corn flakes
- 3 tablespoons whole wheat flour
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
- extra virgin olive oil, for brushing
Hot Honey
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 2-3 teaspoons cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- kosher salt
Instructions
-
1. Add the chicken to a gallon size zip top bag. Pour the buttermilk and salt over the chicken. Toss well, cover and refrigerate 20 minutes or overnight.
2. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
3. Add the corn flake crumbs, flour, thyme, and a pinch of salt to a medium sized bowl. Stir to combine.
4. Remove each piece of chicken from the buttermilk, and dredge through the crumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat until all the chicken has been used. Make sure not to crowd your pan, if necessary use two baking sheets. Lightly brush the chicken with olive oil. Transfer to the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, then flip the chicken over and continue cooking another 10 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. If using thighs, you may need to cook the chicken a little longer
5. Meanwhile, make the hot honey. Melt together the butter, honey, cayenne, chili powder, paprika, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt.
5. Brush or drizzle the chicken generously with hot honey and serve warm Enjoy!

Sounds good to me.

I prefer to use skin off, but skin on does work. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Looks yummy, cant wait to try it! Quick question….are you using boneless, SKINLESS chicken breast or just boneless with skin on? Thanks!
P.S. looks like “listening” to Google paid off…I found your recipe showed up in my news feed ?
Hi! I like to use boneless, SKINLESS chicken breast. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
PS. so glad you found my recipe!! 🙂
Definitely looks like some tasty chicken. The sweet, hot and crunchy elements are all there. Thanks very much.
Thank you Bernard!
This looks yummy and is definitely a recipe I’ll be trying soon. Love your blog.
Thank you Deb! I hope you love which ever ones you try!
Love how this is oven-baked and not fried!!!
Thank you Brittany!
Totally making this! Question—i assume it can be done with thighs or other chicken parts? AND I assume we want the skin on? The recipe didn’t specify and I love me some chicken skin…and cake.
HI! Yes, you can use whatever chicken pieces you’d like. I do use boneless, skinless, so be sure to adjust the cooking times accordingly. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Your style and stories (and of course your recipes) are what make your blog so interesting. I always read through to hear what’s happening with you or your family. Thanks for being real and authentic. I get inspiration from your blog constantly. And your photos, oh my goodness, are amazing. Also, this spicy and sweet baked chicken looks fabulous.
Hi Kristy! I am so glad you like my blog and the content I share! Also, I hope you love this recipe!
I’m going to guess that you are successfully administering techniques to show up on Google as this recipe showed up in my news feed and I have never heard of this sure before. As for the recipe, it looks simple and very delicious. I can’t wait to give it a go. Thank you for sharing, you have a new regular now.
I hope you love this Justin! Thank you so much!
I had the same questions as others … should you (or can you) use skin on chicken? I would love to try this with regular bone-in skin-on drums & thighs as my family LOVES them. So I assume the baking time would just be longer, but will the coating get too dark then?
HI! Yes, you can use whatever chicken pieces you’d like. I do use boneless, skinless, so be sure to adjust the cooking times accordingly. My guess is 15-25 minutes longer depending on how big your chicken pieces are. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! ?
This looks amazing! How is it leftover cold? And what directions do you suggest for reheating?
The leftovers are great! If you’d like to reheat I would reheat at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until warmed through. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
I am so excited to make this recipe this weekend! I’m digging the hot honey kick that has been showing up in some of your recipes lately.
I am curious though – how well do you think this would do if I cooked the chicken in an air fryer. Thanks!
HI! I am not too familiar with air fryers so it is hard for me to say. I do think it would be fine, especially if you are comfortable with air fryers. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Wow!! This looks delicious. I have been craving some good fried chicken lately, so I cannot wait to make this. The sauce is making my mouth water..lol. I’m excited to create this recipe in my kitchen. Thanks!!
Thank you! I hope you absolutely love this recipe Joshua!
What can you sub for buttermilk if you’re dairy free? Culinary coconut milk? Thanks!
Yes, I think coconut milk or any other nut milk will be great! Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂

Looks yummy! The opening sentences are also what appear on Pinterest when you pin the recipe. Having the description is a good thing!
Thank you Mary!
First time reader, bc, as you can guess, it showed up in my feed too! Looks good, I would have liked to see more reviews from people who have tried out the recipe, though. But it looks like you’re blog has gained a bunch of new readers as of this morning, so I’ll have to try it and comment myself. Thank you!
Hi Kerry! I hope you love this recipe! Let me know how it turns out for you ?
Would this work if I used panko breadcrumbs instead of cornflakes?
I am sure panko would be fine. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
This looks AWESOME – I’m just wondering – how spicy is this? I realize it’s sort of subjective, but I don’t typically cook with cayenne. Think it’d be too wimpy if I started off with just a single teaspoon to test the waters?
Thanks for sharing and in advance for the answer!
HI! I would start with 1 teaspoon, that will be perfect!! Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Oh. My. God. I’m dying to try this recipe out, but unfortunately I’m in the middle of a move and won’t have my own kitchen until one more month. As soon as I do, this will be the first recipe I make. Will report back 🙂
I am so glad you like this Sara and I hope you love it when you try it! Also, totally hope your move is going well!!

Hi Amy! I am so sorry I do not provide it. There are many apps and websites that will calculate the nutritional info for you, though! Please let me know if you have any other questions!
I made it! You weren’t kidding with the “hot” part. It’s blow your head off spicy, but also totally delicious. Next time I may lighten up on the cayenne pepper if only to avoid needing a fire extinguisher for my esophagus. Thanks for your inspiring recipes ❤️
Haha so sorry Karen! But I am so glad you loved this! Thank you!
Do you think this would work well with bone-in chicken thighs? And how long would you say to bake them for? Looks delicious!!
I am sure that will be great! I would cook 20 minutes longer to ensure they are cooked through. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Is there anything dairy free I can substitute for the buttermilk?! Would coconut milk work?
Coconut milk will be great! Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Love this recipe! Actually I love all your recipes! Love how tasty and healthy they all are! Can’t wait to make more!
Thank you Krista! I am so glad you liked this!
It’s good to bear in mind that Google has a number of ranking factors, and good quality content always wins out. So keep writing posts that engage your audience, and make sense for your recipes, and you’re good – don’t overthink it 🙂 PS. This recipe looks faaaantastic and I can’t wait to try it!!!
Thank you Alice!
This looks amazing !! I’m partial to fried chicken with bones still in it. Can I substitute the boneless chicken for drumsticks or wings ? Thanks . Can’t wait to try this recipe !!
I am sure drumsticks and wings will be great! I would cook 20 minutes longer to ensure they are cooked through. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! ?
SEO professional here, Since the hummingbird update Google has gotten better about understanding synonyms. You don’t have to write the keyword exactly so. Keep your flare, use variations of keywords, but keep it natural. Happy blogging!
Thank you Gail!
I’m all too familiar with Google and its Svengali like grip on the creative autonomy of anyone who makes a living on the internet. Google is the bane of my professional existence, as well. 😉
That said – your blog kicks ass not only because the photos are beautiful, the recipes fantastic, and the layout aesthetically pleasing – but because you are a great writer, very expressive and witty, and clearly have a passion for what you do. What makes you great is that you are NOT generic. If you have to put a few cheesy catch lines at the top of a blog post every now and again, so be it. But never stop being you – and no matter what “the man” tells you…rebel a little – or a lot. As they say, “Well behaved women rarely make history”. 😉 So tell your story!
And this recipe is now in the cue of HBH things I MUST make. That cue is getting quite long, however…
Awh thank you so much! This is such a sweet comment and it really means a lot to know that you enjoy the content I share! Thank you!
Made this last night and it turned out wonderfully (as have all of your recipes that I have had the joy of trying!). Wanted to comment this time around since a few of your readers asked about this below: I happened to make this with chicken pieces (bone in) since the local store had a sale on whole chickens. Chopped it up into traditional parts (legs, thighs, breasts, etc.), followed the recipe in all other aspects and am happy to report that it works really well with bone-in/skin-on/parts. I simply adjusted the cooking temperature and time accordingly (350 degrees for about an hour), which kept the crispiness extraordinaire without burning it. The honey sauce is such a flavorful gooey-ness in between the crunch; just delightful! Looking forward to your next recipe!
Hi Kore! I am so glad that you loved this recipe and thank you for commenting to let others know!
This was FANTASTIC! I made it for dinner tonight and my husband and son loved it. So, so good!
Thank you so much Sheila! I am so glad you loved this recipe!
Ohhhhh myyyy! I would have made this already but it is currently 90 degrees in nyc and only a masochist would even think of turning on the oven in nyc heat. This is really tempting though. definitely on my to cook list for this weekend when spring comes back to a more seasonal temp! Gorgeous photos!
Thank you so much! I hope you love this when the weather cools down a bit.. but honestly 90 degrees sounds pretty nice!
Hey Tieghan,
Hope this finds you ready to begin Friday mode and side note : Always enjoy your blog and the beautiful photographs!
Quick question, just wondering how crucial is the whole wheat flour to the recipe?
Best,
Anne
HI! the flour helps with fully coating the chicken and helps the sauce stick to the chicken. That said, you should be able to leave it out and still have great chicken. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
I made this the other night for my husband. I am not a fan of spicy food, so he was surprised! He said, “This is the spiciest thing you’ve ever made!” I told him I added all the spices you called for in the recipe and he said he loved it! And he loved it so much that he asked to eat the leftovers the next night! Win-win!
Wow!! I am so happy to hear that Suzi! Thank you!
I made this for dinner last night – outstanding!!! I followed as written and wouldn’t change a thing. Everyone raved! I also made a second sauce of just honey, butter and a pinch of salt for the youngest 2 as I worried about the spice and that was deli ious as well. This is going in our regular rotation. Thank you Tieghan!!
Awh I am so happy to hear that! Thank you so much Cindy!
How far apart do you recommend spacing the individual pieces of chicken on the pan(s)?
I do about 1 1/2-2 inch apart. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
This chicken looks divine! I think I
may be able to conquer this. Thanks!
I hope it turns out amazing for you! Thanks Melissa!
I made this today and it wasa big hit. I’ll be making it again for sure. Thank you!
I am so glad you enjoyed this! Thank you Fiona!
I’ve been making a variation of this dish for years. We call if chippy chicken because i use BBQ chips. This recipe just took it to a whole ‘nuther level! I think it was the buttermilk and thyme! The honey sauce made it that much more delicious with a heat that was perfect. I will be making this again – thanks for sharing.
I am so glad you loved this!! Thank you so much Kimberli!
Tasting it In my mind as I sm reading the recipe – yes, yes and yes. Will make next week. Thank you.
I hope you love it! Thank you Debbi!
SEO is one of the most annoying parts of blogging for me – I feel like I can never figure it out. Im glad I’m not alone! you already have such a dedicated following and your content is so high quality that people naturally gravitate towards it (including myself) – once you master SEO there will be no stopping you! Can’t wait to make this recipe, it looks beautiful and delicious as always.
Thank you so much Katie! I am so glad you like my blog and the content I share!
OH my gosh this was sooooo good! The spicy honey butter sauce is amazing. Another hit for you Tieghan.
Thank you!! SO glad you enjoyed this!
Make this chicken along side tacos, rice and beans for a family cinco de mayo dinner. Great dish! Everyone loved it!
I am so happy to hear that! Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe! It’s going in this week’s lineup and I can’t wait to try it! What do you recommend paring it with?! Side note: your story telling is part of the experience when browsing around your site! It’s just as pleasant as is making your delicious recipes. So Thank you for taking the time to share that with everyone! 🙂
Hi Rachel! I hope you absolutely love this recipe! I would pair it with potatoes, rice, roasted vegetables, or potato salad! Also, so glad you are liking the blog! Thank you!
Made this tonight! Soooo good! Sauce is amazing! Will definitely make again!
Thank you so much Sara!
Just made this recipe tonight and it was off the hook!!! This is definitely a keeper.
Thank you so much Robbie! I am so happy to hear you loved this!
Is there a good substitute for buttermilk?
You can use a nut milk or regular. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
I made this a couple days ago and I’m just popping by again to say how much we LOVED it 🙂 will definitely make it again!
Just one thing – I made about half the amount of chicken (for only 2 of us) and the whole amount of the Hot Honey and it was delicious! I recommend making extra of the Hot Honey it was perfect!
Thank you 🙂
I am so glad you loved this Michelle! Thank you so much!
Made this tonight for my husband and it was a hit! Spicy and tasty! Couldn’t get the crispyness I’d like but with the flavor it was great.
I am so glad you liked this! Thanks Debbie!
I’m so excited to try this recipe! I have never made something form your blog or cookbook and not LOVED it. What side would you recommend with this for dinner?
Hi Giovanna! That is so sweet, thank you so much! I would recommend potatoes, roasted vegetables, potato salad or rice! I hope you love this!
Made this chicken tonight and everyone loved it! Fantastic crunch from the corn flakes and the sauce was sweet and spicy. Delicious! Definitely a keeper.
Thank you so much Deb!
Oh my goodness, this chicken was so so yummy and came together very quick for a great weeknight meal. Let the record show, I love your blog and am a loyal follower of yours both here and on instagram 🙂
Thank you so much Meg! I am so glad you loved this recipe!
Made this tonight and everyone loved it! I loved that I could prep it in the morning and it was very quick at dinner time. Chicken was very crispy and the sauce was so good, sweet and spicy! This one is a keeper!
I am so glad you loved this Deb! Thank you!
This was so easy and so delicious! Even though it has buttermilk and a lot of butter in the sauce, it still seems healthier than actual fried chicken. Definitely going to make this again!
Thank you so much Lauren! I am so glad you liked this!
Hi Tieghan! Made this tonight & it was absolutely fabulous. Loved the corn flake crust and damn that sauce was sooo spicy and soooo delicious! I also made your hasselback potatoes au gratin because I had fresh thyme & the oven temp was the same as the chicken…haha. So it was the perfect excuse to make both. Thanks for the recipe. ?
Thank you so much Becca! I am so glad you liked this recipe!
I’m making this for my mom for Mother’s Day! Quick question – should the butter be salted or unsalted?!
I usually use salted butter, but unsalted works fine too with a pinch of salt. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Just made these (using leftover cornflakes from your Special K bars), and oh my goodness! They are SO good! (I subbed buttermilk for plain Kefir and it totally worked). You are 100% my favourite food blogger. Your recipes never disappoint AND I love the personal touch you add (take that Google). Seriously though, thank you for gracing the world with such deliciousness. 🙂
Awh you are too sweet!! Thank you so much, I am so glad you loved this recipe and hope you continue to enjoy others!
I made this recipe last night – my boyfriend and I both loved it! He said it is the new gold standard he will use to compare all other (oven) fried chicken.
My only question, is that after I flipped it, the bottom side of the chicken didn’t crisp up. Do you think I had too much buttermilk on the chicken when I dredged it? There were about 2 inches between pieces so I don’t think I overcrowded the pan. Any advice would be great for next time 🙂
HI! It is important to let most of the buttermilk drip off before breading, so that might have been the reason the bottom feel off. That said, it’s hard to know what happened without being there. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions. Glad you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Made this tonight and it was A M A Z I N G. I cut the cayenne down to 1 tsp and it was perfect for us. This is going into my rotation. I’ve made lots of HBH recipes and have loved them all, keep doing your thing Tieghan!!
It makes me so happy to hear that! Thank you so much Megan!
While I was checking out the Strawberry Shortcakes I spied this recipe and had to make it too. The whole family loved it. Especially the picky one! I did scale back the cayenne to 1/2tsp which gave it heat at the end and was perfect for our tastes. I can confirm it was just as wonderful the next day for lunch too! I served with herbed baby potatoes and roasted corn on the cob. Love LOVE your recipes!
Hi Denise! I am so glad you loved this recipe and I hope you continue to enjoy others! Thank you so much!
Made this tonight. We had my ‘Bonus son’ and his girlfriend over for dinner. And it was such a huge succes. Made the sauce a little less spicy. Also made oven roast potatoes tossed with homemade dry Ranch dressing mix and a coleslaw. It’s a keeper. And your honey-version is so much more delicious than with dark suger. I was stubborn and made it first with dark sugar. Tossed it and made your version with the honey. Thank you for this great recipe!
Greetings from The Netherlands,
Tessa
Hi Tessa! I am so glad this recipe turned out amazing for you and you all enjoyed it! Thank you so much!
Long time reader, frequent recipe tester, recipe book owner…I’ve never commented before but I had to after trying this recipe. It is SO good. Good amount of spice but perfectly balanced with the sweet of the honey. A great amount of crunch from the breading even after smothering it in the sauce. I’ve loved half baked harvest for a while but now I’m fully devoted. Thank you thank you thank you.
I am so happy to hear this Nina! Thank you so much!!
Muito delicioso, suas receitas são maravilhosas.
I made this the other night and it was a HUGE hit with my family! My husband is an expert on fried chicken so I wasn’t sure how this would go over with him. He absolutely loved it and so did I! BTW I used tenders. Thank you!!
I am so glad you loved this!! Thank you so much!
I made this last night and I loved it!
I prepped the boneless skinless chicken thighs in the buttermilk and salt the night before. When I got home from work, I made the corn flake coating- (tried using rolling pin on a zip locked bag but ended up throwing it all into a food processor- quicker and easier. BTW I probably used 4-5 cups of uncrushed corn flakes to equal 3 cups of crushed corn flakes.). The coating adhered to the chicken really well but I did not brush on the oil because I think it would have brushed off the coating, so I just lightly drizzled oil over chicken.
Then, a friend stopped by! So, I never made the Hot Honey Sauce and it was still great! Next time, I won’t answer my front door so I can have my sauce.
Tonight when I reheated the leftovers, I used the oven so it would still have the crispy crust, yum!
I am so glad you loved this! Haha I hope you do make the sauce next time, I think you’ll enjoy it! Thank you Melissa!
Oh my god. I just made this in the air fryer and it was amazing! I’m mildly embarrassed to say I ate the first batch in about 10 minutes. Also I know people have been raving about the hot honey, but I don’t think it’s talked up enough. I put some on my popcorn for tomorrow’s snack, and the hot honey butter kicked it quite a few notches! I’m so glad you seem to enjoy spicy foods as much as I do.
I am so glad you loved this! Thank you so much Erica!
The dish was very good but I had the same problem another user mentioned; all the breading fell off the larger pieces! Next time I’ll try letting more buttermilk drip off.
Hi Maia! I am so sorry that happened! I hope this turns out better next time! Please let me know if you have any questions!
Made this last night and it was off the chain good!!! This recipe is definitely a keeper. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
Haha I am so glad you loved this!! Thank you!
Made this Memorial Day Weekend! It was absolutely delicious. I will say I didn’t follow the instructions well when you said “finely crushed” cornflakes and thought ‘hey, smashing in a ziploc will work.’ It didn’t. My advice for others would be to actually follow your instructions and finely crush, others it doesn’t stick as well and you end up with globby larger pieces you try to adhere to the chicken. I used a mix of boneless, skinless breasts and thigh–the thighs worked out much better for some reason, the cornflakes stuck better. I’d also let the thighs spread out on the pan as much as possible. I’ll definitely make again! The sauce is fabulous and the cornflake crunch delightful.
Hi Katie! I am so glad that you loved this recipe! Thank you!
Just made this and it was awesome! Thanks for a delicious new chicken recipe!
Thank you so much Heather!
I made this for dinner last night and it was a huge hit with my husband and kids! I did opt the cayenne pepper because my my family can’t handle anything spicy. I did add smoked chipotle powder to my honey sauce because I like a bit of kick. Next time I won’t wait until the last minute to make the sauce, I liked it better once it cooled and thickened a little bit. What little leftovers are left are hidden in the fridge to make sure no one gets to them before me.
I am so happy you enjoyed this Jessica! Thank you!
I made this tonight but i didn’t have corn flakes so I used Total cereal. . .and I didn’t have buttermilk so I used watered down greek yogurt. . .and I was out of honey so I used apricot preserves in the sauce. . The taste was very good. . .but I must have done something wrong because when I was baking the chicken and went to flip it over the bottom breading came off. The final production didn’t have the beauty of your website pictures, but the taste was good (even with the Total cereal) and the entire platter was eaten by the five kiddos (including a couple of picky teens). But how do I keep the crust from coming off?
HI! It was mostly likely due to all the changes made in the recipe. If I had to guess the issue was most likely the greek yogurt. I bet it stuck too much to the chicken and cause the cereal to slip off. I am not familiar with total cereal so I don’t know what that texture is. Please let me know if you have other questions. Glad you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
So good…… Makes You want to slap your mama!!
So glad you liked this! Thanks!
This was amazing. My husband isn’t into spicy so I added an extra tablespoon of honey, omitted the cayenne and added a little chipotle chili powder. It’s so crunchy. I served it with cornbread and slaw. Looking forward to the leftovers!
I am so glad you loved this Donna! Thank you so much!
I made this for dinner tonight. OMG!!! So yummy. We are puttting this in our regular rotation. Easy, yummy. I served it with some coleslaw. (The trick is a little diced jalapeño). Thank you for another winner, winner chicken dinner! We love your recipes!!!
Thank you so much Kristi! I am so glad you loved this!
I said I would try this recipe out once I got all settled into my new place….and I did! I was missing a few ingredients (such as the corn flakes, substituted with bread crumbs) and seasonings for the hot honey sauce….but it still turned out AH-MAZING. Paired it with savory mashed sweet potatoes and collard greens. Was planning on making dinner for myself and had a few friends come over that night instead– everybody cleared their plates and went as far as to demand the recipe from me. It was definitely a hit 😉
I am so happy to hear that Sara! Thank you so much!
I just made this June 3 for dinner and it was fabulous. I cooked the chicken on my gas grill using a flat cast iron skillet. It came out great, I loved all the flavors from the cereal coating to the butter honey sauce. Excellent recipe ! keep them coming!
I am so happy to hear that Kristine! Thank you so much!
The flavor of this chicken is delicious! I found it best to wait until the chicken was done or basically done before starting the sauce. When the sauce sat for a couple minutes, the seasoning separated from the butter leaving a weird paste consistency on the bottom of the pan. I had to make the sauce twice to pour it over immediately while the butter and seasonings were still coalesced. I would probably bake on a wire rack next time too to make sure both sides of the chicken stay crispy. I will be making again. Thank you.
I am so glad you liked this Jill! Thank you!
Would olive oil spray work instead of olive oil? I’ve done it before making homemade wings and it turned out good, but wanted to make sure it would work for this recipe.
Yes, olive oil spray will be great. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
Made this yesterday for dinner. My husband Les asked me to make extra, as it reminded him of our time in Nashville when we are at Princes Hot Chicken (a real Nashville experience). Your recipe is easy to make and delicious. Thanks again Tieghan for another fantastic meal.
I am so happy to hear that! Thank you so much Kim!
WOW! This was so good and so easy to whip up! One question – how would you suggest crumbling the corn flakes? I tried to do it by hand but they were still too big. Would a food processor make them too fine?
HI! A food processor works great to finely crush the cornflakes. Please let me know if you have other questions. So glad you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
This looks so good! Sorry if someone already asked this, but what sides would you serve with thme chicken? Thanks!
Hi Brittany! I love to match this recipe with potatoes, potato salad, roasted vegetables or jasmine rice! I hope you love it!
Disclaimer: I’ve not had “real” Nashville chicken, but thought this was super yummy. I chilled on the cayenne quite a bit for my babies, but I think I would have enjoyed it at full power too. Good job!
Thank you so much Liz! I hope you absolutely loved this!
I made this for dinner tonight and it was delicious! My cornflakes didn’t stick to the chicken quite as nicely as I hoped but it still tasted wonderful even if it wasn’t quite as pretty as yours. I only used 1 tsp of cayenne pepper in the hot honey in order to tone things down a bit and it was a perfect spice level for me. Thanks 🙂
This chicken is some of, if not the, best I have ever had!!! My friend made it for a little gathering and it BLEW MY MIND. As someone who frequently gets “chicken-ed out,” the depth of flavor of this recipe stuck with me such that I cannot WAIT to make it for my loved ones! I’m also looking forward to getting your cookbook – everything on this site looks so delish! Keep doing you, because you are TALENTED and I’m so glad to benefit from it!! Thanks for an amazing recipe!
Made this last night for dinner and is was INCREDIBLE. All of the flavors worked so well together and I loved the flavor and crispiness minus all of the oil. I have a question though, would the outcome change if I used a milk alternative instead of buttermilk? What does the buttermilk add?
Thanks so much 🙂
Hey Lilly! So glad you enjoyed this recipe so much! You can use a beaten egg to coat the chicken as well or regular milk. The outcome should not be too different. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks!
would this be possible to make ahead of time?or bread a few hours ahead of baking? thanks!
HI! I recommend baking the chicken and then warming before serving. I have not tested breading and then baking. I worry the coating could become a little soggy while it sits. Please me know if you have any other questions. Hope you love this recipe. Thanks!:)
Will definitely give it a try Looks so delicious
Thank you! I hope you love this Omar!
The chicken turned out fine, but none of the cornflakes stuck to the chicken and the majority of them got soggy, not crispy in the oven.. any suggestions?
HI! It is important to let most of the buttermilk drip off before breading, so that might have been the reason the bottom feel off. That said, it’s hard to know what happened without being there. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions. Glad you love this recipe! Thanks! ?
I just made this for my husband and myself for Father’s Day. I used boneless, skinless thighs. I also love corn flake crumbs for nostalgia’s sake because my mother always made oven baked chicken that was delicious, using corn flake crumbs. The recipe was simple, and the outcome was incredible. I think my husband was really taken by it, and I absolutely love the hot honey butter sauce, but he found it too spicy…..I have eaten nashville hot chicken sandwiches in a few different restaurants, but this version was just as good or even better, and loved that the sauce was something that could be put on to one’s taste…even dipped. Thank you and this will now be a staple in my cooking repertoire.
Thank you so much Karen! I am so glad you loved this!!
Tonight is the third time I’ve made this chicken since you first posted ! I make it GF by omitting the flour and it comes out great. I also double the sauce because – I mean, goes without saying. That sauce is incredible !! Each time I’ve served it alongside a kale and cabbage slaw with Greek yogurt dressing, sliced red onion, avocado & mango. It’s the perfect counterpart to the hot chicken. Thanks for a wonderful recipe !!
I am so glad you loved this Megan! Thank you!
I love love love ever single recipe!!! Keep them coming!!!????
Thank you so much Debbie!
Hi! How do you think this would hold up with bone-in chicken wings and drumsticks? Thinking of trying as a healthier/different alternative to ‘regular’ chicken wings. Thanks!
Hey! I think it should work, but just adjust the cooking time to insure the chicken is cooked through. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
I made this tonight and it was hands down one of the best recipes I’ve made lately. I will be making it agajn next week. However, alot of my “crust” came off when I flipped it over to be cooked on the other side. Any suggestions?
Hi Susan! It is important to let most of the buttermilk drip off before breading, so that might have been the reason the bottom feel off. That said, it’s hard to know what happened without being there. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions. Glad you love this recipe! Thanks! ?
Made this for dinner tonight…..5 stars all the way. Easy, quick, delicious!! Hubby loved it. Now my favorite way to do chicken in the oven. Thanks again for a winner!
Thank you Karen! I am so glad you loved this recipe!
Would I be able to sub some kind of oil for the butter in the sauce?
Sure, I would use vegetable or olive oil. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
This was excellent. Just excellent. Actually every single recipe of yours I’ve made has been excellent. Thank you for developing the most amazing and versatile recipes out there, and making me look like a star at the dinner table! My husband and girls (4 and 8) didn’t leave a crumb.
Wow that is so amazing! Thank you Kristen!
I made this for a dinner party and it was SO GOOD!! One question though – i baked on foil wrapped cookie sheet and put a little canola oil on the sheet. when I tried to flip halfway through, the coating got stuck to the sheet! Any advice on how to best avoid this?
Thanks and love your blog!
HI! I recommend lining a baking sheet with parchment paper. I find it works much better than foil and nothing really sticks to the parchment. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much! xTieghan
So I made this last night – but just as honey butter oven fried chicken – my boyfriend had a canker sore so I didn’t want to make it spicy at all (but I look forward to remaking this as shown!). It was fantastic and so delicious. My boyfriend loved it too. Thanks for the great recipe.
Thank you so much Kara! I am so glad you and your boyfriend loved this!
I was so excited to make this recipe as I am with any of your recipes. Unfortunately I am so disappointed that I have to post. The chicken was not crispy at all. The sauce was OK. I love spicy but the combination of spices was overwhelming and the honey was lost.
Hi KJ! I am so sorry that this recipe did not work out for you! I hope you still try some other recipes on my blog and enjoy them!
Delicious! My 3 yo niece helped me make this recipe and she had so much fun dredging the chicken. It got a little messy but was fun to make with her. Bonus, she and my 5 yo nephew LOVED the chicken and each ate a whole thigh, with no bribing needed 😉
That is amazing! Thank you Becky!
Delicious! However, I think 3 tsp cayenne is too much — even for people who like a lot of heat. I would start with 1 tsp next time.
Hi Natalie! I am so sorry about that, but I am glad you still enjoyed this!
Making this tonight with three large chicken breasts and was wondering if you had cut the breasts you used into smaller pieces? Thank you!
Hi Kailey! I did actually. I halved the chicken breasts. I hope you enjoy this!
Sooooo gooood!
Even my 4year old thought so(minus the delicious spicy honey of course) but the child who has to be cajoled into eating his dinner had two helpings at dinner two nights in a row and ate it for lunch!
May make our own chicken fingers this way too since it was such a hit.
I have been following you for a while but this is my first comment, took me a while to make any of the dozens of recipes I’ve book marked and then just this week I’ve made 3!!
Keep up the great work and lovely posts! Cheers
Thank you so much Jacque! I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe!!
So delicious!! I made as directed but toned down the heat a little bit. Next time I will just make as directed. I agree on doubling the sauce for sure!!
Thank you so much Kim!
Sorry!!! Forgot to rate it!!!! 5 STAR for sure!!
Thank you!!
Can you use regular white flour instead of wheat flour? I know it’s not as healthy but wondering if it will change the flavor.
Hey Janice! Yes, you can use white flour, that will be great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much! xTieghan
FInally had a chance to try this tonight. Used chicken tenders and 1 tsp of the cayenne. Absolutely fantastic! Everyone loved it.
I am so glad you loved this! Thank you so much Jo!
Tonight is the 3rd time I have made this wonderful dish in the last 3 months. Made as is. Truly Delish!!
Thank you Kim!
I made this last night for dinner and it was fantastic. Rave reviews from all.
Thank you Meri!
I made this tonight with blue cheese mashed potatoes and collard greens, my husband loved it (and so did I!) thanks for another great recipe!
Thank you so much Kelsey! I am so glad you and your husband loved this!
I had my doubts as I was making this…BUT it was soooo good! My family went nuts over it. I will make this again and again. Great to just have it in fridge as hungry kids are running in and out all the time. I do have to say I used way more cornflake mix then it called for? But no big deal, I just made more to cover all the chicken. MAKE THIS TODAY…I am again 🙂
Hi Bernadette! I am so glad you loved this recipe and it turned out so well for you! Thank you so much!
My chicken came out great but a good amount of the breading came off! Any suggestions on getting the breading to stick?
HI! Make sure you are really allowing the buttermilk to drip off the chicken before coating. If you use to much milk, the breading will fall off. Please let me know if you have any other questions. So glad you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
I have made this recipe twice now and love it. Watch your chicken closely for doneness so it will not be dry. Also 1 teaspoon of cayenne is enough for me, 2 is over the top! Thank you for your beautiful recipes and photography.
Hi Tamara! I am so glad this recipe turned out so amazing for you! Thank you!
Made this tonight and it was absolutely delicious! Added it to our family recipe book – can’t wait to keep this one on our dinner idea list!
I am so happy to hear that Alyssa! Thank you so much!
Do you have to use ‘whole wheat’ flour? What about “unbleached all purpose flour?”
Hi1 White flour will be just fine. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much and happy Holidays!! xTieghan ?
My boyfriend and I made this tonight and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! Loved how the sweetness of the honey balanced with the heat of the cayenne. Thank you so much for sharing this with the world!
Thank you Riz! I am so glad you loved this recipe!
Hi, I am going to make this tonight. It looks delectable! My comment is that I would like to see the reviews of people who have actually made your recipes first in the comment section. I have always found them helpful when preparing my recipes that I get on blogs and other websites. Thanks so much for the great recipes!
Thank you so much Judy!
Would almond flour be a good sub for wheat flour? And a nut milk instead of buttermilk?
I am sure both will be just fine! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Hi Tieghan, LOVE your cookbook and just discovered your blog and online recipes! Question about this one: I plan to substitute panko for the cornflakes — would you make any changes to the method or anything if I do that? Thanks! Love from your new fan Sarah
I don’t think you need to do anything, BUT i do think this might not turn our as crisp with the panko. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
We loved this! Quick and easy and so tasty!
Thank you Soonhee!
That looks delicious! Comfort food recipes will always find a way to me eventually, I love trying new things.

Thank you so much Areesha!
This was an amazing recipe! My boyfriend and I both loved it and it had just the right amount of heat! Definitely making it again—we ate it with roasted sweet potatoes and just used regular breadcrumbs since it’s what we had on hand. Thank you for another winner winner chicken dinner!
I am so happy to hear that you loved this! Thank you so much Susan!
Made this tonight and it was delicious. My husband remarked that he wouldn’t mind having it again… in the very near future! I did have one problem- the crunchy coating did not adhere well to the skinless chicken breast. When I went to turn the chicken over, big pieces of it fell off. Any suggestions for when I make it again… in the very near future? Ha-ha!
Hey Deb! I would make sure to really let the excess buttermilk drip off the chicken before coating. Too much milk can cause the coating to fall off. Please let me know if you have any other questions. so glad you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
That sauce!!!!! OMG…it is so good…..I should have made extra because we were just pouring it over the chicken which is wonderful in it’s own right.
Hi Bobbi! Sounds like you really loved this recipe! Thank you so much!
Just made this last night! The chicken was fabulous, and turned out perfectly moist. The sauce was solid, but not at all what I expected. Much more melted butter than sticky/honey. Also, I didn’t find it as spicy as some other commenters–could have added a little more heat!
Thank you so much Emily!
THIS chicken! Thanks for the recipe. My family now has a new favorite!
Thank you so much Amy!
Okay, I found this recipe on a whim and I am SO glad I did. I have made this one chicken three times and pork chops twice in the past month. My family is obsessed! They keep asking me if I’ll make them “chicken crack”—they have given your recipe this nickname. Thank you so much for it and I can’t wait to check out some other recipes you’ve shared!
I am so glad you found it as well! Thank you so much Rachel!
Hi! Made this tonight for ny family 🙂 Just wondering if you can give me a tip on ehatvto do with left over chicken. Do you just keep in the refrigerator for a few days or re-use it in a different recipe. Thanks so much! Annie
Thank you Annie!
Did you cube the chicken first or bake it in full breasts or strips?
HI Caroline, the chicken should be left whole. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
This looks amazing! Any advice on a vegetarian version? I’m thinking to give it a go with cauliflower.. anyways, love your recipes so much!
Hey Sophia! Many have made this with cauliflower and really enjoyed it. Sounds like such a great idea! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Would this work without the cayenne (for my kids)? Thinking of taking this to Super Bowl party!
Hey Marissa! I am sure this will be great minus the cayenne and perfect for kids! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Ermahgawd!
?
I made this tonight. It was fantastic! His will be in regular roatstion for picnics and potlucks. Thank you!!!!
I am so glad you loved this! Thank you!
I’ve been wanting to make this for months and finally got it done today. One word: Yummo! Can’t wait until tomorrow to have leftovers for lunch.
I am so glad you loved this Kati! Thank you so much!
SO DELICIOUS!!! My husband said it’s his top five fave dishes.
Can’t wait to make it again.
That is so amazing! I am so glad you loved this recipe, Frankie!
Made this tonight and it was so good! Will definitely be making I again!!
Thank you so much Audrey! I am so glad you loved this!
Sounds amazing! One question, with the sauce you say drizzle or brush on after it’s baked. Do you find it gets soggy with that?
Hi! I don’t have any issues with the chicken becoming soggy. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Wow, wow, wow!! Just made these tonight and they far surpassed my expectations. I thought the picture looked delicious and the recipe sounded pretty easy, but I rarely get a good result with oven baked chicken. This recipe changed my mind. The chicken was incredibly tender with a delicate crunchy coating. The butter/spiced honey sauce is to die for. I did use boneless, skinless thighs and I used a combination of jalapeño honey I made myself and regular honey. I then adjusted the cayenne pepper. Used two additional TBLS of honey and cut butter to 5 TBLS. Fantastic recipe and husband loved it! Served with a creamy lime dressing coleslaw and fries. Thank you for this recipe? Also, used Panko bread crumbs because I didn’t have corn flakes.
I am so glad this turned out amazing for you, Michele! Thank you so much!
This chicken is fantastic. The flavor is so powerful and serves perfect over some curly sweet potatoe fries. With extra sauce drizzled on top of course.
Thanks for all your wonderful recipes. I try to make one a week. Spicy Ramon bowl is on this weekends menu:)
I am so glad you have been loving my recipes, Kim! Thank you so much!
Any suggestions on making this with chicken tenders. Was thinking of doing for the big game tomorrow!
Hey Tara! Chicken tenders will work great! No adjustments need to be made. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Looks delicious what would you recommend for side dishes?
Hi Debra! Rice, potatoes or salad would be amazing with this recipe! Thank you so much!
Made this last night for the game as sliders. Toasted slider buns, added some thyme mayo and pickles–delicious!!! My husband was so happy to have “fried” chicken and the hot and honey sauce was great (I used slightly less cayenne than called for). A keeper!
Thank you so much!
So yummy!! I only used 1 tsp of cayenne, did not add any chili powder and it was the perfect amount of heat for us. The only thing I will do differently next time is crunch up the cornflakes a little smaller. Thank you for a wonderful recipe! I can’t wait to make it again!
Thank you so much Courtney! I am so glad you loved this!
I am new to posting on your site but follow you. Anyhow, I made these for my Superbowl Party and they were a HUGE hit. One of the best recipes I have made in years! A KEEPER. Thank you.
I am so glad everyone loved these Claudia! Thank you so much!
This chicken was SO good and really simple to make. I used a mixture of breasts and drumsticks. I was astonished that a “breaded” chicken like this didnt even make a mess, which was such a pleasant surprise. I opted for the 3 teaspoons of cayenne to the sauce, which I would assume is why it was so spicy, because the sauce had a big kick to it. Despite the heat, it was so good and we ate leftovers for days. HBH strikes again with amazingness!
Thank you so much Taylor! I am so glad you loved this recipe and it turned out amazing for you!
Made this tonight and the flavors were SOOO gooood! However, the “crispies” turned soggy in the oven. Should I have maybe used foil instead of parchment? Any suggestions on how to keep the chicken crispy on both sides through baking? Will definitely be making this again!
HI Erin! It is important to let most of the buttermilk drip off before breading, so that might have been the reason the chicken lost crispiness. I don’t usually cook with foil, bu you could try that and see if it helps at all as well. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions. Glad you love this recipe! Thanks! ?
Made this for dinner tonight and it came out great! But just a warning for those who don’t tolerate a lot of spice… I know it’s in the name, but this sauce it HOT. I went with the 2 tsp of cayenne rather than 3, doubled the honey and added an extra 2 Tbs of butter and it was still knock your pants off hot. This coming from a girl who dips her fries in straight Tobasco hot sauce rather than ketchup. I felt bad because my mom could not eat it. So maybe hold the sauce and let people apply on their own.
I served it with bacon Brussel Sprouts and sweet potato fries. Will definitely make again, just for a different audience.
Hi Elizabeth! I am so glad you liked this recipe! Yes, it is super spicy, but just how my family likes it haha! Thank you so much for trying it! xTieghan
Unfortunately this recipe was a huge miss for me 🙁
There is nothing about the flavor or texture of the chicken that I thought tasted good.
My wife and I ended up dumping it after a bite and I had to make a dinner a second time
Hi David! I am so sorry this did not work well for you. Are there any questions I can help you with if you decide to try it again? I hope you enjoy some other recipes on my blog!! xTieghan
Made these the other day – super glad that I did!! They’re nice and spicy. Definitely craveable ?
Thank you so much Kirty! I am so glad you loved this recipe! xTieghan
Ok so I don’t think I was quite ready for how spicy this really was, but it was SO flavorful and delicious!!! The flavor was even better the next day with the sauce soaked in! Seriously so good.
Any tricks to getting the crumbs to stick better? When I pulled them out of the oven, some parts were falling off from the moisture the chicken let out. ??♀️ (The crumbs were still mighty delicious though).
HI! It is important to let most of the buttermilk drip off before breading, so that might have been the reason the chicken lost crispiness. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions. Glad you love this recipe! Thanks! ?
Another incredible recipe! I loved the amount of heat but would warn people to lessen amt of cayenne if sensitive. I made it with a Mac n cheese side. Needless to say the significant other was very happy. Will be making again soon. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much Alexa! I am so glad you both loved this recipe! xTieghan
Made this last night and it was amazing!
Easy to make it gluten free by using GF corn flakes and GF flour.
Thanks so much, your site is our new Go-To for tasty recipes!
Elle from Vancouver, CA
I am so glad you loved this Elle! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Thank you for sharing recipes and inspiring me to try new things. I did try the Oven Fried Hot Honey Chicken tonight and it was delicious but I had a problem with the sauce separating. I tried it twice, thought I may have over heated the first time. Do you have any suggestions or is that normal. I would recommend starting with the smallest amount of cayenne. We love spicy, and it is def spicy. Will make again!
Thanks.
Hey Tam! The sauce naturally separates as it cools. Just give it a stir before using and that does the trick. Please let me know if you have any other questions. So glad love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I made the recipe with 8 boneless skinless chicken Breast, arrowhead stoneground whole wheat flour, fresh thyme chopped fine and organic honey corn flakes 3 cups and organic corn flakes 3 cups. I used the food processor and I marinated the chicken in a thick Calders Brand in a glass jar buttermilk with kosher salt. The buttermilk over the chicken was thick and perfect. I took chicken out of buttermilk and coated with cornflakes mixture and placed on a baking sheet. I put some extra virgin olive oil on top lightly. I convection baked at 425 / I cooked for 20 min and then turned over and cooked another 20 min. I doubled the honey sauce but only put 2 teaspoons cayenne pepper which was hot but had a good balance. I doubled the recipe. I added the glaze when it came out of the oven . The recipe turned out FABULOUS!!!! My husband & son loved the chicken. The house smells insane. Thank You ! Michelle Saroki
Thank you so much Michelle! I am so glad this recipe turned out so amazing for you! xTieghan
This recipe is super easy, and really good. I dropped the cayenne down to 1 tsp (I have 4 kids under 6) and it was still quite spicy. I’ll be making it again over wings for sure!
Thank you!! xTieghan
This was fantastic! Will definitely be making again!
I am so happy to hear that! Thank you Cassandra! xTieghan
Half Baked Harvest is my go-to and this is one of my all time favorites! I like to substitute harissa for the cayenne, but that’s just personal preference. A perfect recipe!
Thank you so much Nicole! xTieghan
Absolute new favorite recipe. Paired with some garlic mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. We cannot get enough! Thank you!!
Thank you so much Kacie! xTieghan
Delicious! If you have any of the honey butter left drizzle it on popcorn along with a bit of lime juice for some mind blowing popcorn.
WOW that sounds amazing and am totally trying it! Thank you Manson! xTieghan
I’m so not a person who comments or posts things on social media but I think it’s worth coming out of my internet anonymity to comment on this recipe. I learned about your site last month after having a conversation with my dental hygienist about “what in the world should I make for my family for dinner tonight” and she told me about all the recipes she’s made from your blog. I immediately found your site and since then have made at least 20 of your recipes. I have three young kids and everything I have made from your site appeals to all of them – which in itself is a miracle! I love your seasonal approach and mix of traditional with a twist, all the while having amazing flavors and contrast. This recipe (so far) is our favorite and my husband asked, “Can we please have this every other week!?”. I made two batches of the hot honey topping, one with spice and one dialed back for my kids. That’s why I love all your recipes because I can make one meal for the entire family (which is HUGE) and then make small alterations on the side for my kids to enjoy as well. It’s been a great way to introduce them to new flavors so thank you!
And your photography is spectacular!
I am so glad you found my blog and have been loving my recipes! I have a huge family as well, so I always try to create recipes that will feed them all haha! Thank you Kate! xTieghan
This is a good recipe. I used boneless, skinless thighs and breasts. Unfortunately, mine didn’t crisp in the oven as much as I would have liked—I didn’t want to keep it in too long to ensure the chicken didn’t dry out, so I switched on the broiler and it helped. I also misread the amount of cayenne (I read 2-3 tsp as 2/3 tsp) so it wasn’t spicy! The misread was on me. I plan to try again with a couple modifications. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
Thank you Mary! I am so glad you loved this! xTieghan
Just got off whole30 (made it 13 days, oh well) and I can’t wait to make this. Do you have recommendations on side dishes for this? Looking for a carb (was reeeeeally leaning towards some type of Mac and cheese but I’m open to potatoes) and a veggie dish.
Love your blog!
Hi Tobey! That is longer than I would have, haha! I personally love to do mixed vegetables and rice or potatoes! Honestly, mac and cheese sounds amazing as well! I will leave some links below for you! xTieghan

So delicious! I come back to this again and again because it is easy and sooo good! The kids eat it without the hot honey, and the adults slather it on. Thanks for the great recipe!
Thank you so much Sarah! xTieghan
I hate when people make tons of changes then leave bad reviews. I did make 2 minor changes. I used eggs instead of butter milk as you talked about in the comments and it wasn’t until I started cooking I realized I had Frosted Flakes.
I used my mincer to crush the flakes. This was DELICIOUS and easy!!
Adding it to my list!
Hi Nikki! I am so glad this turned out so well for you and you loved it! Thank you! xTieghan
I was so excited to try this because of the good ratings. But we made it tonight and the sauce was remarkablely bad. The Cayenne pepper really overpowered it. No sweetness, just a hit of spicy blandness.
Hi Bethany! I am so sorry to hear that. Are there any questions I could help with? I hope you love some other recipes on my blog! xTieghan
We LOVE this dish! So easy and delicious. Any tips on the hot honey? Mine separated a bit…wondering if there’s a good way to keep it together. xx
HI there! The hot honey separates once cooled, if you keep it warm it shouldn’t separate! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am so glad you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Hi,
any particular reason you used wheat flour and can this be substituted for normal, white flour?
As a side note – I’m from little New Zealand and have just discovered your site thanks to a USA friend – i’m currently obsessing and cooking my heart out 🙂 love the photography too –
half of me whats to tell all my friends out here about you and the other half just wants to keep you to myself for a little bit and bask in their praises when i serve them your tasty dishes 🙂
Hi Anthea! I just like wheat flour, but all-purpose flour will work great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! And THANK YOU so much! You are so sweet!! xTieghan
Hi! I would love to try this recipe- but I have a dairy allergy- what can I substitute for the buttermilk?
Hi Deena! I recommend using canned full fat coconut milk. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Very easy to make and absolutely delicious! My picky toddler asked for seconds so I will be making this again! Thank you!
Thank you Priya! xTieghan
I forgot to take a photo! So sorry! But this was seriously amazing and easy! I made a combination of breast tenderloins and thighs. Both came out perfectly and the hot honey is to die for! What you don’t say is how good the chicken is before putting the honey on it! Delicious! You have a follower for life!
I am so glad to hear that Jen!! That is so great! xTieghan
The flavor was really great, and it was pretty easy!! My only problem was that the coating just wouldn’t stick to the chicken and ended up pretty soggy.. other than that it was so good!
Thank you so much Emily! xTieghan
I made this for dinner tonight and it was incredible! I can’t wait to make it again!
Thank you so much Heidee! I am so glad you loved this! xTieghan
I love this and so does my family so I have made it several times. The first few times the sauce was great. Then another time it “broke” (didn’t emulsify). Any suggestions?
HI there! Sounds like you might just be over boiling the sauce. too much heat can cause it to break apart. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am so glad you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I know you published this recipe last year, but I only just recently tried it and it is so, so good!! I’ve already made it several times for my family and everyone loves it. The recipe is simple and the flavors are really unique. It’s great with roasted Brussels sprouts and corn on the cob for summertime. Thanks for your amazing recipes – they’re always winners! ❤️
Thank you so much Sara! xTieghan
By FAR my favorite chicken recipe ever! I want to make this all the time, and my husband doesn’t argue 😉 Thanks for a great recipe!
Wow so amazing! Thank you so much Sarah! xTieghan
I found this recipe going through your website! I love everything I’ve made from it!
This was delicious! So crispy and crunchy, the sauce tasted hot on it’s own but on the chicken it was just the right amount of heat! I am a baby and only used 1 tsp of cayenne!
That is so amazing to hear! Thank you for trying this and many others Ashley! I hope you continue to love my recipes! xTieghan
I have the same dairy substitute question but for the butter. Should I use “better than butter” type substitute or just an oil instead? Please let me know! Thanks!
Hi there! I would recommend using olive oil. That will be great!! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
This recipe got amazing reviews in my cooking group on Facebook and I’m making it tonight. Can you recommend a dipping sauce for this? Thank you!
Hey Theresa, there is extra sauce that you can dip the chicken into, but I would also recommend a honey mustard. Linked below! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan

My family loved this dish so much! I made too much so we had great sandwiches the next day with honey mustard, blue cheese crumbles and pickled vegetables, and then use the recipe to make great chicken and waffles for brunch! Just added a little maple syrup to the hot honey mixture! Thanks for a keeper!
Thank you so much Amy!! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Made this recipe and it was absolutely amazing! My husband is super picky about his spicy chicken but he loved this recipe so much when I made it! The sauce is addicting!
Thank you so much Katie! xTieghan
Amazing!!! have shared this recipe with so many friends everyone loves………….it!! Love all your recipes. Keep them coming
That is so sweet of you! I am so glad you all have loved this recipe, Debbie! Thank you! xTieghan
Tieghan,
We’re devouring this hot honey chicken right now- it’s one of our favs, we’ve had it multiple times in the last few months! My boyfriend made it today and declared that I was “cut off” cause he makes it better ? Also big fans of your Korean popcorn chicken, terra chip chicken, etc. We absolutely love all of your recipes and tell everyone about you! Thank you for feeding us MULTIPLE times a week and for giving me a lot more confidence in the kitchen! I don’t have an Instagram but I’m going to get on there soon just so I can post my very below average pictures of your delicious food- I know it’s your favorite part of the day! We can’t wait to meet you at Eataly in Chicago next month!!
Emily Andersen
Hi Emily! I am so glad you loved this recipe and I hope you both continue to enjoy them! xTieghan
Incredible! so good highly reccommend
Thank you so much Emily! xTieghan
SOOO GOOD! Made this for dinner (drumsticks) tonight & it was a BIG hit with the husband! Definitely easy and we especially loved the spicy honey sauce!! Didn’t have corn flakes on hand so I used Panko crumbs instead- deeeelish! Definitely turned what would have been a boring chicken dinner into a new fave! Thank you for sharing:)
That is so amazing! I am so glad this turned out so well for you Evelyn! Thank you! xTieghan
I LOVED this. Made it for my family as part of our Christmas brunch. It was such a hit!!! You’re amazing, thank you for sharing.
Thank you Danielle! So glad this turned out so well! xTieghan
This was an absolute hit with the family … And the hot honey was divine perfection!
Thank you so much Melanie! I am so glad you all loved this! xTieghan
This is my favorite recipe to make!!! My husbands too. It made me fall in love with smoked paprika and now its my favorite spice to use! To me, since im a baby, its very spicy. So I just cut back on the cayenne pepper and its perfect. 🙂
I am so glad you both love this recipe! Thank you Chardea! xTieghan
This sauce was amazing, but I cannot get the chicken to remain crispy, or have the skin stay on the chicken. What can I do to have it remain crispy and the breading on the chicken? I did use panko crumbs instead of cornflakes. Could this be why?
Hi Sarah! It is important to let most of the buttermilk drip off before breading, so that might have been the reason the chicken lost crispiness. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions. Glad you love this recipe! Thanks! ?
Hello – Love your site and your recipes. Quick question – Can I make this the day before and reheat for a bbq the next day? How would you suggest reheating? Perhaps cook chicken day before and then add the honey sauce after re-heating? Please let me know what you think is best. Thank you!
Hi there! yes, I would cook the chicken the day before, then add the sauce and warm in the oven before serving. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
3 cups crushed cornflakes is about 6 cups whole cornflakes….. just FYI
Thank you Laura! xTieghan
Help! I don’t’ know what I could have done wrong but my honey sauce separated. I melted the butter with all the other ingredients and double-checked the amounts. ANy idea where I went wrong?
Hi Laura! The hot honey separates once cooled, if you keep it warm it shouldn’t separate! Just keep stirring it up before you spoon over the chicken. Once it hits the chicken it will be great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am so glad you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Can regular all-purpose flour be substituted for whole wheat flour?
Hi Dawn! Yes, all-purpose flour works great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Hi again. I wanted to reply to YOUR reply to my comment below but it wouldn’t work for some reason. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I am just starting my own food blog and it is A LOT of work. My only complaint is that I wanted twice the amount of sauce to pour over all the chicken because it was THAT yummy. For the hot honey, I put everything in a pot together, but I see that you melt the butter separately and just pour that onto your other ingredients. I wonder if that matters at all. My sauce separated within minutes of coming off the heat. But it still tasted fabulous.
How do I keep the coating from sliding off the chicken when I turn it over? Also, whichever side cooks facedown last always comes out soggy for me, even if it was crispy when I turned it. This recipe is so amazing and yummy but I don’t understand what I am doing wrong.
Hi Dawn! It is important to let most of the buttermilk drip off before breading, so that might have been the reason the chicken lost crispiness. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions. Glad you love this recipe! Thanks! ?
So delicious – tons of flavor for baked (not fried) chicken – absolutely love it. Used the extra buttermilk I had to make biscuits. Such a great pairing. Love this blog!!!
Thank you so much Marissa! I hope you continue to enjoy my recipes and blog!! xTieghan
Oh my gosh. Made these tonight with chicken thighs and they were just something else. My husband and I both went back for seconds. Absolutely delicious!!
Wow that is so great! Thank you so much for trying this recipe Lindsey! xTieghan
So weird, I was just talking about Nashville got chicken with someone then you go and post this recipe on Instagram! Looks amazing, can’t wait to try it!
One question though – I was surprised to see you don’t bake them on a rack. Do you have a trick for keeping them crispy on both sides??
Hey! I don’t find a rack to be needed. You can flip the chicken half way through cooking, but honestly I don’t usually do this and find that the chicken crisp up just perfectly when left alone and baked as directed. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
You’re recipes are amazing! I want to try this one but am curious if you can do it with Wings? Would the cooking time be less? I may want to try it with various pieces all in same pan…..breasts, drumsticks, wings. THANKS!
Hey! The cooking times will vary depending on the size of your chicken. I can’t really advise much since I don’t know the sizing or pieces you will be using. Just be sure to check for doneness before serving. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Can’t wait to make this! Do you cut your chicken breast in half or just cook the whole thing?
Hi Jonica! I do cut the chicken breast in half! I hope you love this recipe! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
My husband and I just finished eating this for dinner. It was absolutely amazing and one of our favorite recipes to date. It was so dang good and also not difficult to make! Thank you for sharing this!
That is so amazing to hear! Thank you so much Angelica! xTieghan
This was so so good and super easy!! I put it on top of a salad with some green goddess dressing from another hbh recipe. My husband that doesn’t eat salads devoured the chicken and even the salad! He also mentioned he could see this chicken being delicious in a chicken and waffle dish. Awesome!!
That is so amazing!! Thank you so much for trying this one, Ally! So glad it turned out so well for you both! xTieghan
So I cheated and pan seared my chicken, 5-6 minutes per side, in my cast iron skillet before baking. It came out extraordinary crispy, so, so delicious! And the sauce was absolute perfection – amazing balance of sweet and spicy. This will be on regular rotation at my house!! A keeper 🙂
Thank you so much Kristen! I am so glad you enjoyed this! xTieghan
Made this last night and it was SO GOOD. Only disappointing part was that we didn’t have any cornflakes left for breakfast…FYI you’ll need the whole box to get 3 cups of crushed crumbs 🙂
Thank you so much Michelle! xTieghan
Made this tonight. My husband and I loved it! Can’t wait to make it again
Thank you so much Margaret! xTieghan
This recipe was amazing! Super easy to prepare. I didnt have corn flakes on hand so I substituted it for panko and it tasted great. I’ll be sure to pick up some corn flakes the next time I make this dish! Thanks for sharing ?
Thank you Krista! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Made it with waffles, great combo! Thanks
Thank you Jake! xTieghan
Will coconut milk/cream work to make it dairy free?
Hi Bri! Yes, coconut milk works great. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
When using chicken breast, do you leave them whole? Or cut them into smaller pieces?
Hi Emily! I cut the chicken breast in half! I hope you love this! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I just made this with your Baked Mac & Cheese and OMG what a great combo. This chicken is the perfect blend of sweet and spicy with just the right crunch. The sauce totally makes it. Pretty easy to make for a crowd and impress. Thank you!!
Thank you so much Angela! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This was absolutely delicious! I made this last night for dinner and devoured it in under 2mins. It was that good. And so easy to make. I’ll be making this on the regular!
Thank you so much Cristina! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Yum yum yum! Made this tonight and we loved it! We even made extra hot honey butter for drizzling on other things. I love it on brussel sprouts! Thanks for another fabulous recipe!
Thank you Maureen! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This was so easy to make, and my whole family loved it! I am a vegetarian, so I put the sauce on a veggie chicken patty, and even that was amazing! Thanks for another great recipe!
Thank you Julie! I am so glad this turned out so well for all of you! xTieghan
Delicious but my hot honey did not turn out! It separated from the start and also didn’t look appealing. Do you think I overstirred or perhaps didn’t use enough (or the right) type of honey? Have you encountered this issue? Thanks!!
Hi Meredith? Is it possible you over cooked the hot honey? It’s never meant to boil and should only be gently melted together. Also, did you use a runny honey? That is what I recommend. Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you!! xTieghan
This was delicious! We had this tonight and my family is a big fan! My only question is how I can better keep the breading on the chicken. A lot of mine fell off ?
Hi Megan! Did you pack it on well enough? I try to really push it into the chicken so it stays on! Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with! xTieghan
Loved it -we actually had some gochujaro flakes on hand (similar to gochujang) that we added to the butter and we will definitely be making this again. We paired it with the warm herby potato salad (also a hit!).
Amazing!! I am so glad this turned out so well! Thank you Jessica! xTieghan
What do you recommend serving with the chicken? ?
Hi Jen! I would serve it with some rice and vegetables! Which ever are your favorites! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I made this last night and it turned out so well and was surprisingly very easy to make! My husband had finished his first piece of chicken before I could even sit down! Thank you for another great recipe!
Wow that is so amazing to hear! Thank you so much for trying this! xTieghan
Very good! I made the sauce (using 1 teaspoon of cayenne) for chicken tenders that we had on a lovely mixed salad. I’ll make this again! Thanks.
Thank you so much Janice! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I love everything Half Baked Harvest, but this was one of the first times that the recipe did not go according to plan. The hot honey was good, it just never combined together and the spices just clumped. Not entirely sure what went wrong and will probably add extra butter and honey next time.
Hi Leigh! Is there anything that went wrong while making this? I would love to help out! Please let me know! xTieghan
Not at all hot, but tasty
Thank you for trying this, please let me know if there is anything I can help with! xTieghan
To hard to leave feed back. Not coming back
Hi Ted! Could you please inform me of the issues you are having? I would love to get them resolved and make it easier for people to leave feedback! xTieghan
This was a hit! Didn’t have corn flakes so I used panko instead with boneless skinless chicken thighs (also used yogurt instead of buttermilk). We devoured almost all of it. Even my toddler enjoyed it (minus the spicy honey sauce which really took it to the next level). Will definitely be adding this to our rotation! Thank you for another great recipe!! So far we are loving every HBH recipe we have tried. Definitely my new favourite food blog!
Hi Amanda! I am so glad you are loving my recipes! I hope you continue to! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Could I put the chicken in the air fryer? What are your thoughts as to the temperature and time?
HI! I am sure the air fryer will be great, but I do not personally own one so I can’t advise on time or temp. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Hi! Can any of these be frozen after cooking?
Hi Michelle! Yes, of course! I hope you enjoy them! Let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Can I turn this into nuggets somehow? Would cooking time change?
HI! Yes! Just cut the chicken into smaller pieces and bake for a shorter time, maybe about 15-20 minutes. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Do you think chicken drumsticks would work well with this recipe? If so what would be the cooking time? It looks amazing but I can’t get Chicken breast anywhere at the moment.
Hi Hannah,
You can definitely use drumsticks, just adjust your cooking time accordingly! I would say 40-45 minutes.
Do you have recommendations of what to use to substitute buttermilk? Our local grocery stores have none in stock right now. Can’t wait to make this, thank you!
Hi Paige,
I would recommend using heavy cream or another milk that you are able to get your hands on!
Perfect blend of sweet and spicy
Thank you so much Priyanka! xTieghan
This was insanely good. The sauce on top, I mean wow.
Thank you Allie! xTieghan
Thanks Tieghan for this DELICIOUS recipe!!! It was a huge hit in our home! Knowing my family I cut the cayenne and chili powder down but it was still scrumptious! I even left some without the sauce for my husband (who isn’t always sure about new recipes I try) but he actually choose to go for the sauced chicken instead!
Thanks for all that you share with us!
❤️
Thank you so much Katie! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Made this tonight and LOVED it. Served it with coleslaw & dill pickles. Thank you for the recipe, it’s a keeper!!
Thank you so much Laura! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This was fantastic! We used boneless skinless chicken tenders and it was perfect! We will definitely make this again!
Thank you so much Callie! I am so glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Tried this last night and it was SO SO good. I only used 2.5 teaspoons of cayenne but I think next time I’ll go the full 3. I used white flour (didn’t have whole wheat flour) and dried thyme instead. Chicken was perfectly cooked, I highly recommend following the recipe when it says turn over and cook another 10 mins. The only MINOR downside was by my last chicken breast being “breaded”- the cornflake mix was getting a little clumpy cuz the buttermilk on the chicken which made it a little bit more difficult for them to stick. But I made it work and they were amazing!!!!
Thank you so much Morgan! I am so glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This chicken is PERFECT. It’s juicy, crunchy, spicy and I wouldn’t change a thing. This southern girl misses her hot chicken so thank you for this! I find it pairs very well with the Cauliflower Mac & Cheese 🙂
So glad this one turned out so well for you! Thank you Kimberly! xTieghan
Can this be done with tofu?! Or even shrimp?!
Hi Emily,
Yes either of those would totally work! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I have made this twice. Both times a hit, but the 2nd time, much better with my tweaks. Ingredients are all the same, fear not dear commenters, I have not changed it, only changed the ORDER. The first time was waay too hot for me, so the 2nd time, I used boneless skinless (the first time not), and after the buttermilk step, I dredged it in the hot honey sauce, THEN in the cornflake crumbs. I saved about a 1/3 of the sauce for drizzling. The amounts were perfect for 6 boneless skinless thighs, whereas I had 2 lbs of thighs (4) the first time and threw out so much cornflake mix and hot honey sauce (I hate waste). This is now a keeper for us!!
Hi Sheri! I am really glad this recipe has been working so well for you! Also, thank you for sharing your experience! I hope you continue to love this and others! Stay well! xTieghan
A girlfriend had just given me your cookbook as a gift last week and I fell instantly in love! This is the 3rd HBH recipe I’ve made in the last few days. Had to make this one in particular as my son who is a freshman at Vanderbilt is home “self-isolating” and is going a little stir crazy(thought the Nashville Hot chicken recipe might cheer him up). It was absolutely delicious!! Will definitely make again and again. Also, made your cuban black beans for the second time last night and your one bowl oatmeal chocolate chip cookies ~ all amazing. Thank you, thank you!!!
Hi! Wow I am so glad you are loving my recipes and I hope you continue to! Also, I hope this did cheer him up, I am sure it is so different trying to get school work done at home! Stay well! xTieghan
can you use all purpose flour instead of whole wheat flour? And breadcrumbs instead of crushed corn flakes? Cheers!
Hi Mathuri! Both substitutes should work great! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
We tried this recipe tonight and used chicken thighs with skin on, bone in, We also replaced the thyme with fresh basil because that was all we had on hand. It was still SO delicious, even with the modifications. Will definitely cook this again! Thank-you!
Thank you Gabby! That is so great to hear! xTieghan
Seriously the entire time eating this I was like “wow, this sauce isn’t hot at all, it’s like dipping your chicken into honey butter.” Well, I forgot the cayenne! I added it and naturally had to eat another half a chicken thigh. Omg so good!
Hi Tess! Haha well I am so glad this was great both ways! Thank you so much for trying this one! xTieghan
Hello! Just wondering if you need to heat up the hot honey sauce before using on the chicken?
Hi Olivia! The hot honey sauce should already be warm from melting all of the ingredients together! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
This recipe has been on my list of things to make! Could I sub the wheat flour for almond flour? And Is there something similar I could use besides corn flakes?
Hi Nicole! I am sure almond flour will work great! Also, you could use breadcrumbs to replace the corn flakes! I hope you love this recipe! xTieghan
Looks amazing! Could I sub panko bread crumbs for corn flakes if I don’t have the latter, or will that not be a course enough crumb?
Hi Julia! I am sure that will work great! I hope you love this recipe! xTieghan
Made these for a happy hour snack today, they were awesome!!!! Will be making them again for sure. Thanks!
Thank you so much Stephanie! xTieghan
This is a favourite for me and my husband! His favourite way to eat them is on top of mashed potato to soak up the yummy honey butter sauce. Today we ate them as sliders on homemade biscuits and it was a game changer!
Thank you so much Stephanie! That is so great! xTieghan
seriously this is the best chicken!
Thank you so much Summer! That is amazing to hear! xTieghan
Loved it but a little turned off by the amount of butter. Suggestions?
Hi Grady,
So sorry but the butter makes the sauce! You can always reduce the amount of sauce you are putting on the chicken. I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
OH MY GOODNESS! This chicken is delicious. That sauce!!! Its the perfect combination of spicy and sweet. Followed the recipe exactly as written and it was easy and amazingly yummy.
Thank you so much Betty!! xTieghan
