Nine Favorite Things.
Thanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post.

Looking at the calendar, I’m realizing this is the last Favorite’s post of February. How are we already so deep into 2020? This past month has been more of a challenging one, but I’m looking forward to the week ahead (my brothers will be in town!), my upcoming travel, and slowly starting to incorporate more springtime recipes into the mix.
Though not just yet because it’s still very much winter here in Colorado. We’ve had a cold and cozy snowy weekend, so I’ve been cooking and baking inside. I made my coconut banana cake on Instagram stories Friday. I’m loving seeing everyone’s Instagram photos of their cakes they’ve baked up. I think the best part about social media (for me anyway) is being able to so easily interact with you guys. It’s so fun for me and you guys feel like a true family!
In other news, our Williams-Sonoma cookbook events are almost completely sold out. YAY!! I was so excited to see the incredible response from you guys. Our first LA stop and Chicago stop sold out immediately. Thank you all so much! If you didn’t get tickets yet, I believe there are still a few spaces left for Beverly Hills, Dallas, and San Francisco. I cannot wait to meet you guys soon!
Coming up this week on HBH, we’ll be kicking the week off with a non-traditional Monday recipe that’s delicious (and full of broccoli too…promise it’s good). Then I’ll be sharing an easy brunch recipe, a brand new better than takeout style dish, and the sweetest Friday recipe that I hope excites you all greatly…hint this is something Asher LOVES, so yes, there is chocolate involved.
Lastly, if you’re catching up on blog posts from the week, be sure to sign up for our daily newsletters. They’ll help you to stay up to date with everything that’s happening here, as well as fun content you’ll only get via email. And of course, if you’re meal planning today, don’t forget to check out my menu below (it’s #9 on the favorite’s list).
Hope you enjoy this week’s Nine Favorite Things and have a wonderful, relaxed Sunday!
1. Inspiring me this week on Pinterest.
I’m on the lookout for new dishes and I always love finding inspiration on Pinterest. As you can tell, I love handmade ceramics with plenty of unique texture. I love that no two pieces are the same! Here’s what I am loving…

Question: What are your favorite sources for tableware? I love shopping Etsy, Jenni Kayne, Food 52, and Anthropologie for more unique finds. I turn to Crate and Barrel and Williams-Sonoma for everyday essentials. I’d love know where you guys shop? Any places I need to check out?
2. March Recipe request.
I put this out on Instagram this past week, so I thought it was only fair to ask you guys here too. To me, March is a weird month. It’s this time in between winter and spring. We all want it to be spring, but the reality is that it’s winter…with spring days here and there. This means one day we want soup and the next salad. Confusing? Yes. So, I love creating healthier comfort food recipes this time of year with plenty of color.
What do you guys want to see in March? Please leave all your thoughts and requests in the comments. Would you like to see more dinner recipes? More desserts? Are you looking for St.Patrick’s Day recipes? Or are you already planning for Easter and looking for brunch dishes? Would you love to see an entertaining post? Tell me all the details. Please and thank you! Excited to see what you all are looking for in March.

3. everything from the Leanne Ford x CB l collection…
Loving this collaboration for more affordable home pieces.
4. favorite questions of the week.
q: I am amazed at your creativity. How do you keep your creative juices flowing?
a: Think outside of the box. Seriously though. I don’t look at cookbooks or online for inspiration. Instead, I find it through family members, the seasons, fashion, design, basically anything that’s visual. It’s hard to explain but I am very very visual. I can see a photo of something I love (maybe it’s flowers, an outfit, rainy day photo, destination, etc) and create something based on the colors or mood of the photo. I just need something to look at so that my mind can start picturing things. Again, so hard to explain. Basically recipes are formed in my head before I write them out. I think about the colors, textures, how I want it to look and taste. I picture everything in my head first, then I work to create it.
q: Was there one thing that helped HBH get popular? Or was it a long process?
a: It was a process, HBH gradually grew over time. There hasn’t been one thing that skyrocketed HBH and I’m thankful for that. Growing over time has really helped build such an incredible group of dedicated followers and not just random people who hit the follow button because of a big shout-out our something similar. This is cheesy, but you guys kind of feel like extended family!!
q: When you and your family eat, is it as pretty as when you plate it?
a: No never!! My family is the complete opposite of me and they could care less about pretty plating. They really just want the food.
q: What do you enjoy creating more, the recipes or the photos?
a: For me, the process of creating recipes and photographing them really go together. Sometimes I wonder if I’d be less stressed if I only had the recipe to worry about and not the photos…and trust me, I would. BUT I think it’s because I think very visually that my recipes are uniquely mine. I’m not just thinking about flavors and cooking methods when creating a recipe. I’m also thinking about how it will look visually and most of the time that affects the flavors of the recipe. I’m always adjusting as I go, adding color, taking it away. In turn, changing the recipe as I go. So the answer is I love both together!

We love HBH as a family of girls but some of us are experiencing gluten issues… do you kno of a good gluten free site or of someone that can cook like you, but gluten free?
Hi Suzi! I actually do not.. I know many of my followers are able to make the recipes gluten free with substitutions! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Hi, Tieghan! I am sorry about your February, it’s seems like it has been a rough month for many people.. so really excited that we are on the last week, and you have so much to look forward to! I know it’s nerve wracking for you to travel, but it is so exciting– it elevates and grows you, I bet you will finish next month with lot’s of inspirational ideas 🙂 About you request on context for March… have you seen a challenge going around for 1-month vegan March? I don’t know if I can embrace 100% vegan, but I am so into fun vegetarian dishes that are low on carbs as well. Complex carbs, lot’s of colors and yummy vegetables– that’s my request 🙂 And thank you very much!
Hi Nikki! I actually have not heard of that… and am not sure I could do that either haha! I hope you have a wonderful week! Thank you! xTieghan
I would love a lemony coffee cake recipe! Or really lemon anything. Springtime always has me wanting more citrus!
Thank you so much Kori! xTieghan
I live in Phoenix, where the average March temperature is 77 degrees. This makes me crave lighter fare, packed with veggies!
Wow sounds like some good weather! Thank you Amy! xTieghan
Would love a recipe for butter tarts please! ?
Thank you Kim! xTieghan
I love your recipes but especially your talent with flavor. We took some Butcher Box baby back ribs and I put a rub of your homemade Creole seasoning, baked about 3/4 done then grilled the rest of the way using the hot wing sauce from the Cauliflower bites. OMG they were the best.
I have purchased your cookbook for friends more than any other! Well done, looking forward to many more years of fun cooking with you.
Hi Georgana! This is so sweet to read! I am really glad you have been loving my recipes and I hope you continue to! Thank you! xTieghan
Always looking for quick dinners that make great leftovers for lunch. Fewer desserts, I don’t make them often – usually a batch of cookies per week 😉 I go to your blog for recipes allllll the time!
Aw so glad you have been loving my recipes Carly! Thank you so much! xTieghan
A fabulous hotel in SF to stay is the W. Very nice, swanky, hip and in a great location. Union Square (shopping!) is 2 blocks away. LOVE the W! Enjoy your stay.
Thank you so much Terrie! xTieghan
You should check out http://www.BlueDoorCeramics.com. . Her dishes are beautiful & rusic & I think you would really like them.
Thank you Gina! xTieghan
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the flatware in the “inspiring me this week on pinterest.” Do you know the name of the gold-tone flatware pattern? Thanks!
HI! I am sorry I don’t know the name. It’s just an inspo pick from pinterest. 🙁 wish I could help!
Dallas Hotels
Hi – it depends on what you are doing in Dallas and which part of town. I can make several recommendations, however, first on the list is The Hotel Crescent Court followed by Hotel Zaza. Both of those will cover downtown and uptown Dallas.
If you are more towards the DFW airport area stay at the Four Seasons Hotel.
If you need any foodie places let me know and what brings you to Dallas?
Thank you so much Michael! I would love some foodie places as well! I am coming as part of my book tour! xTieghan
Stay at the Adolphus in Dallas. It’s so pretty, lots of charm, boutique hotel. The Quen of England even stayed there (don’t worry, not that expensive though). It also has a great cafe for breakfast and coffee grabs. https://www.adolphus.com/
Thank you so much Alyssa! xTieghan
My Fave hotel in Dallas is Hotel ZaZa. It is a beautiful boutique hotel in uptown. Hope you can check it out!
Ooo love that! Thank you Kelly! I’ll check it out! xTieghan
Hello, I love your choice of ceramics, really pretty. The cups either large or small are so cute. And thanks for your beautiful blogs full of heart and soul.
Aw thank you Doris! It is amazing to hear that you are enjoying them! xTieghan
Of all the email I receive, your Nine Favorite Things posts are by far the ones I look forward to receiving the most! From start to finish, the content is informative, fun and delicious. Thank you so much!!
So glad you love these! Thank you Kim! xTieghan
We enjoyed the Golden Gate Hotel in SF. It’s small, quirky, and super comfortable. The deep claw-foot tub was a big plus.
Ooo sounds amazing! Thank you so much for the suggestions, Glen! xTieghan
If you can make it to Boulder, I love Peppercorn on Pearl Street. HUGE store, and lots of great finds on tableware, including serving pieces etc. from local artists. I can spend hours in there!
Hi Dani! My parents used to go down there frequently to look for pieces for me! They have such amazing stuff! Thank you! xTieghan
Looking for a great hotel? Whenever I visit a city, I always look at Talbot hotels first. I have The App and scroll through it. I have never been disappointed! They list the most charming, beautiful, boutique hotels. This is true for hotels in the United States and all over Europe. I highly recommend it! (I live In Missouri, but got tickets to your WS visit in Chicago. Can’t wait!)
Thank you so much! I will check it out! Also, that is so great!! xTieghan
The Adolphus Hotel in Dallas is one of my favorite places to stay!
Thank you Jane! xTieghan
We love Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco. You are right in the heart of Japantown! What’s not to love?
Love that!! Thank you Abi! xTieghan
Hotel recommendation: the Palace Hotel in San Francisco is wonderful!! Its an historic hotel that is newly renovated and very cozy and classy at the same time. Their Garden Court is world-renowned, it’s one of the most beautiful places anywhere and my happy place. Highly recommend you stay there, or at least visit and have a meal/cocktail in the Garden Court!! https://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-photos/sfolc-palace-hotel-a-luxury-collection-hotel-san-francisco/
Thank you Robyn! xTieghan
Tieghan,
I am a long time fan, love your stuff have your books and cook your recipes very often. I live in Frisco and especially love your photos of our sweet place to live. A question, I am not going full on KETO but am trying to reduce carbs and sugar and wondered if there is a way to search your recipes that might be more in this style.
Looking forward to hearing from you and I wish you the best on your Williams Sonoma tour – very exciting.
Hi Anne! I am so glad you have been loving my recipes and site! And you live so close haha! I am not sure how I would exactly search this on the site, maybe looking for things like fish or avocado? Sorry I am not more help, but I am not too familiar with the diet either! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
More citrus, chicken and greens…maybe an elevated smoothie would be fun. Also, breakfast/brunch recipes. Love your recipes.
Thank you so much Joyce! xTieghan
Avoid staying in downtown San Francisco if you can!!! Stay in the more charming neighborhoods with smaller hotels like the Drisco hotel in Pacific Heights or Lodge or Inn at the Presidio. If you need to stay closer to downtown, then I would stay at the Vitale hotel so you are across from the Ferry building!
Thank you so much Ashley! I will check these out! xTieghan
Hotel Drisco in San Fran and dinner at State Bird Provisions. Ferry to Sausalito eat at Joinery for casual lunch on water – get the Brussels and roasted potatoes if they are on the menu. .
Thank you Kerry! xTieghan
Hey Tieghan!
I’m so excited to hear you’re doing your tour!! Apologies for not commenting in A WHILE but I’ve been following along on Instagram and the blog as always.? Haha I agree March is a weird month. I’m slowly piecing together plans for Grad school (Ah!) and post-graduation. ? Question: Do you still have a job posting open? I’d love to apply and join the HBH work community!
Anyways, yes! Tea cakes, brunch, and basically anything for an afternoon tea/early dinner would be lovely for March!! I’m definitely in the peaceful early-dinner vibe (I’m excited to try the falafel naan wrap!) for March. As for SF: the TOP hotels I recommend are the Inn at the Presidio, Hotel Drisco Pacific Heights, Argonaut Hotel, and (maaaayyybe) Hotel Vitale. Although it’s tempting to stay near the more popular areas, I HIGHLY recommend avoiding the Tenderloin area (and really anywhere near Market Street). It’s gotten really packed and can be somewhat unsafe (especially if you’re nervous about traveling). Haha I would only spend max 1 hr near that central area (and trust me, closer near the Presidio is very much underrated).
I hope you have a wonderful trip regardless and I’m looking forward to seeing this weeks posts!☺️?
Love always~
Hi Kristin! Yes, you can totally still apply for the job! Also, thank you for all of the hotel recommendations! I will look into them! xTieghan
Hello:
I would really love to see some Easter brunch recipes. I love your cookbooks and the recipes.
Cheryl
Thank you so much Cheryl! xTieghan
Hotel Drisco in San Fran. State Bird Provisions for dinner. Ferry to Sausalito lunch at the Joinery Beer Hall – not what you think order the Brussel and roasted potatoes if on menu. If I had room you could stay with me:)
Thank you Kerry! xTieghan
I would love to see more Creative, healthy but easy weekday breakfast ideas! Thanks for asking.
Thank you! I can definitely do that! xTieghan
Happy Sunday fellow CO girl! A fun post on spring entertaining would be lovely! My birthday is in the spring along with my boyfriend, mom, and many of my friends. I’ve never thrown a spring cocktail/appetizer party so that would be really great to get some tips and recipes. BTW I use the sauce recipe from your 30 min coconut curry chicken meatball recipe pretty much every week 🙂
Oh wow so much birthdays! That would be so fun to throw a party for yourself and your friends! Thank you Jaclyn! xTieghan
Please! Please!
~Leftover recipes. Make Sunday dinner and turn it into Monday dinner.

We just stayed at the Hotel Crescent Court in Dallas and it was a great hotel.
Love your recipes, cookbooks and your humble attitude.
Aw thank you so much Lisa! xTieghan
Tieghan, awesome favorites post, seems so crazy we are nearing the end of February!
I would love to see more dinner ideas with meat that are good to reheat for leftovers the next day. ? Also veggie sides that are easy to make ahead for entertaining and some grab and go breakfast ideas are all things I would be so happy to see from you. Some spring themed entertaining ideas would be so fun as well. ?
Thanks for all you share and your hard work in the kitchen that inspires us all.
Thank you so much Alicia! xTieghan
Yes yes yes to saint patricks and Irish inspired dishes! I grew up with an Irish American mom and Irish food just screams comfort to me. Shepard’s pie, corned beef, corned beef hash, Irish soda bread, literally any stew especially lamb, and obviously potatoes!!!
Aw I love that!! xTieghan
Mrs Ts Pierogies, really? You lived in Cleveland and there were slavic churches that most likely make and sell pierogies. The Ukrainian Catholic church and Russian Orthodox church near my little Byzantine church both sell pierogies every Friday. We’re smaller but just made a batch to freeze and sell at our upcoming pancake and soup suppers. We made about 170 dozen before our fall festival and sold most of them at the festival, whether people bought the hot ones for lunch or frozen ones for later consumption. I’m so sorry that your introduction was frozen pierogies!
I missed your recipe before Christmas but will have to make it after Easter.
Hi Nan! Yes, Mrs Ts. We lived on the West side of Cleveland, and most of those churches are on the East! I hope you try this recipe and enjoy it! xTieghan
Hey Tieghan!
Ok! Wonderful. I’m so excited, I’ve sent you an email with my application materials. 🙂 Hopefully things work out and I can join the HBH work community! Please let me know if there is ANYTHING else you may need or need clarifications on.
Also, yes! I’m happy to help. 🙂 I hope you find a Hotel that’s comfortable and warm. Finding a ‘home-away-from-home’ is key. 😉
Talk soon!
Thank you so much Kristin! I am so excited to go through it! I hope you have an amazing week! xTieghan
St.Patrick’s Day recipes, Easter and/or an entertaining post but less noodle/asian dishes.
Thank you so much Steph! xTieghan
I’m always on the hunt for veggie packed meals in the spring!
And for new pottery, I’d check out east fork pottery or sven ceramics! Both two of my favorites!
Thank you so much Jaqui! xTieghan
The Adolphus in Dallas is the best!! So pretty and so much history! The food/coffee options in the hotel are amazing too!
Thank you so much Kaley! I will check it out! xTieghan
Hi Tieghan,
I have a store in Connecticut that you may want to check out for your dishware and rustic home décor. It’s The Rustic Barn in Killingworth, CT. It’s privately owned by a Husband and Wife team; he makes beautiful furniture and she runs the shop, interior design, marketing, etc. A lovely couple and her shop is gorgeous and always current. She has a new dish pattern with scalloped edging and matching bowls. Check it out online at therusticbarnct.com. She ships for free with a $100 purchase. Hope you love it!
Jackie
Aw wow that sounds amazing! I will definitely check them out! Thank you Jackie! xTieghan
Hi Teighan!
First off, I am SO excited you are making your way down to Dallas in a few weeks!! My mom and I will be at your book signing and literally can’t wait haha. Echoing a lot of others who have already commented, I would highly recommend you check out hotels in the uptown area for your stay (Hotel ZaZa and Hotel Crescent Court would probably be my top picks). Both are similarly located and only a 10ish minute drive to NorthPark Mall.
https://www.hotelzaza.com/dallas
https://www.crescentcourt.com/
Hope this is helpful, and I’m super looking forward to meeting you! Have a great week. 🙂
Aw that is so amazing! I cannot wait to meet you all! Thank you so much for the suggestions, Lauren! xTieghan
@Whatsgabycooking -Gaby Dalkin’s mom,
@fiftyoneandahalf, creates beautiful ceramics and serving pieces and sells on Etsy.
Thank you Gerrianne! xTieghan
I would love to see some more fish recipes Trying. To incorporate other proteins into salads and healthy main courses. Also any recommendations for using up all those frozen veggies and fruit I still have in the freezer from last season lol.
Thank you so much Kim! xTieghan
Hey Tieghan! Would love to see more drinks on here – smoothies, cocktails and lattes!!!! You’re so good at them!
Yes! Thank you so much Kelly! xTieghan
Hello my darling Teighan! I’m not coming to any of your latest book tour locations, but I know they will be so fun. I’m still in the glow of out feed-feed meeting ? I used to live in SF, so I have so hotel recommendations…..it does depend on what I’m in the mood for. Mark Hopkins is in Nob Hill and just old school classic. I love their continental brekkie room service. Fairmont Nob Hill is also a classic. Both of the aforementioned have cool retro bars. Then in the Embarcadero, Hotel Vitale, Richard Branson, owner(who I saw when I stayed there last time) super cute boutique hotel, great walking to the chicest food/shopping. I would avoid Fisherman’s Wharf as too touristy. I do love North Beach area. Closest to Williams Sonoma would be Union Square, pricier but so bustling. I so love San Fran……sigh ???? let me know if you want more help
Hi Laurie! Thank you so much for the suggestions! I am bummed you will not be there, but hopefully one in the future!! xTieghan
My favorite hotel in Dallas is the Ritz Carlton. Great location and the service is outstanding. They have a fabulous happy hour each evening with complimentary chips and guacamole and margaritas, and Dean Fearing’s restaurant there is creative and delicious. That said, Hotel Zaza and Crescent Court are both close by and nice too. The Adolphus is great for high tea, and the Mansion on Turtle Creek is another Dallas icon. Dallas Blooms at the Arboretum is so beautifull, depending on when you are traveling there.
Thank you so much Melissa! xTieghan
March meals:
Anything with burrata! Homemade pizzas winter to spring transitional!
Oh I can definitely do that haha! Thank you Britt! xTieghan
Hi! For tableware, I would recommend checking out East Fork Pottery (https://eastfork.com/). Everything they make is gorgeous and handmade in the US!
Thank you so much Valerie! xTieghan
march recipe requests: I am trying to go more plant based/seafood in my diet due to health issues. with the season changing, id like some recipes that might be a bit lighter than the comfort dishes I’ve been eating all winter..I primarily shop local. live in the mountains of NC..have access to farmers market and the seasonal produce. get seafood from the grocery but only wild and sustainibly sourced. would like a mix of vegan recipes as well. I love your blog so much!
Amazing! Thank you so much Lisa! I hope you continue to love it haha! xTieghan
The Inn San Francisco is in the Mission. It’s a few blocks ff BART but so worth it. You’ll feel like you found your home away from home in this Victorian-style B&B. There is classical music playing when you enter, and real candles are lit. There is a lovely backyard garden and a rooftop patio. Eighty plus restaurants within walking distance.
Thank you so much Lisa! xTieghan
For beautiful ceramics I go to Bennington Pottery in Vermont. Their ceramics are gorgeously simple with an array of glaze colors and finishes. Love, love, love them!
Thanks so much for the recommendation Tina!! xTieghan
