5 Ingredient (MAGIC) Matzo Chocolate Bars.
I made us the EASIEST dessert ever.
Like it may just be one of my easiest sweet recipes on the site to date. I know, I know, amazing, right? I pretty much never show you guys anything with JUST FIVE ingredients. And it really is just five simple, very basic, everyday ingredients.
Really, did you know I could do that? Cause I can!!
So let’s break these 5 Ingredient (MAGIC) Matzo Chocolate Bars down into layers.
Matzo!!
Super fun for Easter, but you can also use saltines, pretzels, graham crackers and/or basically whatever you’ve got that you think would be good.
Mixed Nuts.
Salty, crunchy and delicious.
Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips!!
Enough said. Chocolate chips will always win. Always.
Shredded Coconut.
I mean, duh. Why the heck would there not be coconut? It’s my favorite.
Sweetened Condensed Milk.
Quickly becoming a go-to for me. Love this stuff.
Feeling all Eastery and Crazy? Milk Chocolate Eggs!!
Optional…but not really.
Basically, you add everything to a Pyrex pan, layer, bake, cut, EAT. Simple as that.
And ok, I guess if you count those milk chocolate eggs these bars have six ingredients, but you really don’t HAVE to add them. I just did because I am sucker for those Eastery looking eggs.
Happens every year. Like clockwork.
Also, did I mention that you only have to dirty ONE dish. Just ONE. You don’t even need a knife or even a can opener for that matter. I mean, to me this is all very, very good news. I love to bake, but sometimes? Sometimes, I really just want to throw something in the oven and not have a million and one dishes to clean, counters full of flour, sugar and eggs, and floors that look even worse than my counters!
YIKES.
It makes me tired just thinking about it. Can you tell? I am a crazy messy baker/cook. Just ask anyone who walks in my kitchen from the hours of 10am to 6pm. The place looks like a tornado hit it… and then some.
Thankfully I have an amazing dad who will come over after work and help me with my giant mess. He has been crowned the world’s best dish washer. I honestly do not know what I’d do without that guy. Life saver.
Plus, I kind of love just hanging with him. We listen to music, I talk and talk (he just shrugs along) and it actually makes cleaning up something to look forward to. Now, I never thought I would say those words!
Weird.
But anyway, these bars leave zero mess. Told you, these bars are MAGIC.
And don’t be surprised when they magically disappear in a matter of minutes!

5 Ingredient (MAGIC) Matzo Chocolate Bars.
By halfbakedharvest
Course: Dessert, Snack
Cuisine: American
Keyword: chocolate bar, easy, matzo
The EASIEST dessert ever.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces sheets Matzo use [gluten free Matzo | http://www.amazon.com/Yehuda-Matzo-Squares-Gluten-10-5000-/dp/B004DBVJRA] if needed
- 2 cups salted mixed nuts (I used peanuts cashews, almonds and pistachios)
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup sweetened or unsweetened shredded coconut your preference
- 1 ounce can sweetened condensed milk 14
- milk chocolate Easter Eggs for topping (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9x13 inch pyrex pan with parchment and spray with cooking spray.
-
Place the matzo in an even layer on the bottom of the pyrex pan. Sprinkle over the mixed nuts, chocolate chips and half the coconut. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk evenly over top. Sprinkle with the remaining coconut. If using, add a few milk chocolate eggs.
-
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is just lightly golden brown. Watch closely towards the end of cooking to make sure the coconut does not burn.
-
Remove and allow to cool at least 45 minutes before cutting. Cut into bars and serve at room temperature (my parents likes these best straight from the fridge). Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week at room temp or in the fridge.
Stoping at one? That’s just not even remotely possible.
Wow, Tieghan! 5 ingredients never looked so good! These are going on my life-saver list for emergecies. Although, I don’t know if I can wait for an emergency to make them! That is so that your dad helps you out with the dishes. That would definitely make it more fun.
You totally just took magic bars to a whole new delicious level! And, yeah, you would probably need superpowers to stop after one bar 😉
Wow this is magic! 5 ingredients even I can make this.. and that’s saying something. In this house these are going to disappear in seconds it won’t even take a minute. Thanks 🙂
I love quick throw together dishes like this one! Never thought to use Matzo! Can’t wait to try these Tieghan!
Yum these look so good and this recipe lends itself to endless possibilities..you could use white chips, almonds and craisins..yum. I’m definitely making these.
Hi Tieghan: Thank you very much for this easy and quick recipe at a special time of the year for us ALL. These will definately be in the fridge during Passover this year. Your blog was enchanting and brings a smile to my face when I, who also love to cook and build a room of dirty dishes before 12, clean them and start all over again. I cook best when I am on a roll lol.
Have a safe and peaceful holiday filled with loved ones and lots of fun.
Correction for last reply by Linda Nemiroff: ” Your blog was enchanting and brings a smile to my face when I, who also love to cook and build a room of dirty dishes before 12, clean them and start cooking again in the pm, have to call for help to whoever is near to finish off the last sink full.”
Sometimes you just need something that’s easy to make, but still delicious and that’s just what these magic bars are! I love how it has all of my snack cravings in one bar as well 😉
Well, these will definitely be going on my Passover table this year. I think this is a matzoh recipe even the non-Jewish roomies can get on board with. And if you happen to think of any other amazing Passover recipes, I totally wouldn’t be sad about it:)
I’ll take all the help I can get when it comes to not making a mess, because my kitchen, like yours looks like a bomb exploded after I’m done cooking. Not good. Love these easy mess-free bars! Plus — so festive!
The recipe is great, but matzo is traditionally for Passover, not Easter. I’m not one to get upset at these kind of things too quickly, but it just kind of irked me as a Jew myself that matzo is being associated with the wrong holiday…
I am not a jew and was also kind of questioning that part
THANK YOU! As a fellow Jew, I was kind of annoyed at that.
Just a quick, fairly large and glaring correction on your post. Matzo is a traditional Passover food. Passover is a Jewish holiday. Your post definitely associates matzo with Easter, which is wrong. As far as I know, matzo has no connection to Easter. This year the beginning of Passover does happen to fall on the same weekend as Easter. Maybe that’s where your confusion comes from. It’d be great if you could fix this in your post so as to not give your readers wrong information.
I am not being facetious but I am honestly trying to understand the issue. Am I missing something in the post? Matzo can be used by anyone for anytime of the year. What is there to correct in the post? I am not Jewish but I use matzo for quite a few things because it’s good. I’m not Italian but I make meatballs! I make matzo ball soup year round. I can’t wait to try this dessert with the matzo because of the texture and crispiness it would bring to the dessert. Thanks Tieghan for always thinking outside the box and bringing us new and different ways to enjoy food!
Jackie, I just want to kindly reply! Matzo isn’t just a Jewish food in the way meatballs (to use your example) are an Italian food. Matzo is an extremely symbolic aspect of Passover. It has historical value and meaning. It isn’t just an all year ’round Jewish food. That is why so many Jewish people are pointing out the mistake in this post.
Do you think coconut milk (the canned kind) can replace the condensed milk for non dairy folks?
These are so pretty! My friend does a version of these with toffee and it’s addictive 🙂 Pinning!
This is a really creative use of matzo. As others have pointed out matzo is most certainly not an Easter food. It’s for Passover…a Jewish holiday. No need to co-opt another cultures traditions. Easter has plenty of its own without matzo. Either way I will definitely be making this for Passover because it sounds awesome and looks way better than some of the Passover matzo based desserts out there! Hopefully it becomes a seder table staple!
Holy smokes, easy is right!! This recipe rocks!!
Oven is not working–darn.
I love these bars, Tieghan! What’s not to love about magic bars and the Cadbury eggs are a must!
Kudos to you Tieghan for the crazy cool picture of the 5 ingredients being quickly layered on each other! love it!
I love your blog and think you are very talented.
I never, ever post comments on blogs. Ever. But I really needed to share how much I agree with many of the previous comments. Please edit this blog post to correct it. Matzo is not an Easter food, not even a little bit. It is a very important aspect of the Jewish holiday of Passover, and I would so appreciate it if you recognized that in this post.
ditto! looks delicious though.
just wanted to let you know these were a big hit this weekend at our seder. also, i think it’s still legal for anyone to buy and eat matzohs anytime of year, including easter 🙂
Tieghan. Just saw this post and wanted to let you know that my late mother-in-law made these magic bars with matzo at Passover every single year!!! She used pecans in the recipe and sometimes threw in some dried fruit. They are absolutely amazing and in keeping with her tradition, I will be making them again this year for our Seder.
P.S. I’m all in for using matzo at any time of the year no matter what you celebrate. That’s why it’s available at the market for everyone to enjoy. Xo
so, my husband got this 5 lb!!! box of Matzo’s free from supermarket this weekend & i knew just what to do with it, one thing was…this… & we all loved it, also used up last of easter candy, but can use any chocolate/nuts/ combinations.
will make again!
really great, really easy to do, & family friendly!
Thats amazing!! Thanks so much Karen, glad you guys liked it!! (:
I made this for our family Seder Monday night with leftovers going to our temple’s second-night Seder Tuesday. I made most with coconut but made about half a matzo without because my brother does not like coconut. We loved it both ways. Like your parents, I like it best right out of the refrigerator, but we loved it both cold and at room temp. It was a hit and lasted for days (I held back a few for us). I used the same combination of nuts and actually found a bag of mixed nuts with that exact combination at my Wegmans. Next time I may try adding dried fruit and candy. There will be a next time, maybe even this week.
Sounds so good making it both ways!
Sounds like you have some amazing ideas to make it even better! Thanks so much for making it Marsha!
I forgot to say thank you so much for posting this recipe.
Is there a way to make this dairy free? Substitute condensed milk for?? Thanks! Happy whatever!
HI! The condensed milk is what holds this recipe together, so I am not sure of a great substitute. Have you have tried coconut sweetened condensed milk? That would work well. Recipe below. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan

So easy and delicious!
Thanks so much Leah!
You got to be kidding? Matzo recipe with Easter eggs? Matzo is for the Jrwish holiday Passover where we eat special food and Easter eggs aren’t one of them. This recipe make a mockery of matzo.
