Baked Cinnamon Crème Brûlée French Toast with Raspberry Preserves.
Brunching today with this Baked Cinnamon Crème Brûlée French Toast with Raspberry Preserves.
If there was ever a decadent french toast, this has got to be it. It’s pretty much one of the best holiday breakfast/brunch recipes you can find, and it’s delicious.
My current state of mind, cooking wise, is prep all things ahead and bake later. This year I’ve made it a goal of mine to be more organized come Christmas Eve (I think I say this every single year though). Therefore, I’m on the hunt for recipes that can be prepared in advance. It seems every Christmas I’m frantically running around cooking, mixing up cocktails, and wrapping gifts. It’s basically full on chaos. I don’t hate it one bit, but there’s definitely room for some organization and make ahead recipes.
Anyone else with me?
K, cool. Let me tell you about this french toast.
Here’s the quick story. Both my mom and oldest brother, Creighton love french toast. Every single Christmas Creighton will walk himself down to my house and request his annual French Toast breakfast, complete with bacon and a giant glass of milk (because apparently he’s still twelve years old). This breakfast doesn’t happen on Christmas morning since we always, always have Mom’s Monkey Bread, but more often it happens on Christmas Eve morning.
To me, Christmas Eve is my favorite day and actually trumps Christmas Day. I love the excitement in the air, it’s the best. Because Christmas Eve is so special to me, I always cave in and make the boys whatever they request. It’s my sisterly duty, plus I’m just a sucker. Whenever anyone asks me to make something, 99% of the time I’ll do it…yep, people pleaser right here.
Anyway, the point is, I’ve realized french toast on Christmas Eve seems to have become tradition. This year I’m being extra smart and prepping this french toast bake the day before, thus leaving me free to do things like wrap gifts, cook Christmas Eve dinner, and maybe even chill for a second? Maybe…
Since it’s Christmas, you know I had to come up with a rather decadent French Toast.
Enter this Baked Cinnamon Crème Brûlée French Toast. Oh my gosh, it’s heaven. No joke, it’s pretty much like eating dessert for breakfast, but hey, it’s the holidays, where anything goes so it’s cool.
So what is Crème Brûlée French Toast? It’s toast that’s eggy, custard infused…with plenty of cinnamon and orange liquor, has a crunchy sugar bottom, and is topped with whipped cream and raspberry preserves. Pretty sure it just doesn’t get better than this.
I served this up for Asher and I during our “Christmas Day” this past Sunday and the girl went crazy for it. Of course she doubled up on the whipped cream and skipped out on the raspberry preserves, but the little girl loved this baked French Toast and said that the just so slightly crunchy bottom was the very best part.
I agreed.
The recipe is pretty simple. It’s a mix of maple, brown sugar, and butter, spread evenly in the bottom of a baking dish. This is the “Crème Brûlée” part of the recipe. The sugars then caramelize as the french toast bakes up in the oven and create a slightly crunchy crust over the bottom of the french toast. It’s literally just incredible, think Crème Brûlée topping on eggy french toast. SO GOOD.
The custard is a simple mix of eggs, milk, cinnamon, orange liquor, and vanilla. I highly recommend using the orange liquor as it adds that touch of special holiday flavor. And truthfully, you really should have a bottle of orange liquor on hand at all times, especially during the holidays…so you can make these Cranberry Orange Margaritas.
Once the french toast has been assembled, simply place it in the fridge for up to overnight. This is the perfect breakfast for early mornings when you don’t have time to cook. Simply remove from the fridge and bake.
Done.
To add a pop of festive color, I like to serve this with some raspberries preserves, but, going to be honest here, it’s pretty delicious just straight out of the oven with zero toppings. Maple and powdered sugar are really not even needed here, as the french toast is pretty sweet on its own, but of course do as you please and top as desired.
The more the merrier, right?
Yup, going with that!

Baked Cinnamon Crème Brûlée French Toast with Raspberry Preserves

Course: Brunch
Cuisine: American
Keyword: cinnamon french toast
This toast is eggy, custard infused...with plenty of cinnamon and orange liquor, has a crunchy sugar bottom, and is topped with whipped cream and raspberry preserves. Pretty sure it just doesn't get better than this!
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup real maple syrup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted
- 8 large eggs beaten
- 2 1/2 cups whole milk
- 3 tablespoons Grand Marnier (orange liqueur)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 loaf challah bread, sliced into thick slices
- 1-2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 jar (10 ounces) raspberry preserves
- whipped cream, for serving (optional)
Instructions
-
1. Grease a 9x13 inch-baking dish with butter.
2. In a small bowl, mix together the maple, brown sugar, and butter. Spread the mixture in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Grand Marnier, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Submerge each piece of bread into the egg mixture, allowing the bread to sit at least a minute and soak up the eggs. Arrange the bread in the prepared baking dish. Pour the remaining egg mixture over the bread slices.
4. Cover and place in the fridge for 1 hour or overnight. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Sprinkle the sugar evenly over the french toast. Transfer to the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the French toast is golden and crisp. If the tops of the bread begin to brown too quickly, loosely cover the French toast with foil.
5. Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, combine the raspberry preserves and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil and reduce heat, simmer 5 minutes until warm.
6. Serve the french toast warm, topped with whipped cream, if desired, and preserves. Enjoy!
The perfect plate of french toast.

Hi! This looks so delicious. If I want to leave the liquor out (pregnant), do I need to substitute anything else to make the consistency/flavor right? If so, please suggest a non-alcoholic substitute? Thanks so much. I follow your blog all the time – it’s beautiful and one of my go-to places to get completely wonderful recipes! You are an inspiration 🙂
To replace 2 tablespoons of liqueur, use 2 tablespoons of orange juice concentrate or 2 tablespoons of orange juice with 1/2 teaspoon of orange extract. Cherry cider or black cherry, raspberry, boysenberry, currant, or grape juice or syrup. Substitute same amount of liquid as called for in the recipe.
im nursing, so im either leaving liqueur out or using orange essential oil. congrats!
HI! You can either omit the liquor OR replace it with 3 tablespoons orange juice if you have that on hand. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Happy Holiday’s ? 🙂
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect Christmas morning baked french toast – thanks for posting! Can’t wait to make it.
I hope you love this Brittany! Thank you!!
I normally like a savory breakfast over a sweet one; but let me tell you… this is my DREAM French Toast!
So glad you’re loving this! Thank you Carrie!
I want to come to your house on Christmas! I actually prefer Xmas Eve too. My family is European, and our tradition has always been to open presents on Xmas Eve after dinner. There’s just something magical about it and all the twinkling lights vs. waking up to open presents in broad daylight. I’m not a morning person so that’s also probably one of the reasons why Xmas morning really does not excite me at all haha.
Haha would love to have everyone there! That is such a cute tradition, I love when its dark out and all the Christmas lights are up as well! Happy Holidays Natasha!
Yum! How perfect for Christmas morning!
Thank you Kari!
This looks absolutely wonderful. Thanks
Thank you Joyce!
I was looking for a make ahead French toast recipe! Thanks so much Tieghan, we love your recipes. The bread looks like a good 1/2 inch thick in the picture, you mention it should be 1/4 inch.
Hi Laurie! Ya it could be anywhere from a 1/4 inch to a 1/2 inch! Either will turn out great! Thanks!
Hey Tieghan,
I absolutely love this French toast and think it would be perfect for Christmas Eve brunch. I’ve also been prepping some food (mostly so leftovers or bread don’t go bad) and freezing them for busy days. But this French toast seems wonderful for Christmas Eve and I think I’ll have to make it this year. My mom always raves about her dads french toast with orange, so the orange seems like a nice addition . ?
I hope you’re enjoying all of your guests and the week leading up to Christmas! Do you have anything special planned? Or any last minute projects you want to get done?
Either way, im looking forward to more holiday posts! 🙂
Hi Kristin! I am so glad you like this and hope it turns out amazing on Christmas Eve! I am enjoying a lot of my family members being home and can’t wait for them all to get in! I’ve just been super busy because of the holidays, but its been fun! How have you been?
That’s wonderful you’ve been able to see your family! I’m sorry you’ve been so busy, but hopefully cooking and getting ready will help everyone feel more excited about the holidays and you can use it as a place to relax (haha while you plan and prepare). I’ve been good! I’m trying to stay busy and not let everyone else’s holiday stress affect me as a person. But walking and baking projects help. 😉
I hope the studio barn is coming along and you can give your family a mini tour while they’re there!
So pretty, this is the perfect Christmas breakfast!
Yes! Thanks Laura!
Hi Tieghan,
Wow, this French toast loooks so delicious and tempting. I want to make it for our Christmas day brunch 😉 One question : Are you sure that the brioche slices in the pics are only 1/4-inch? They look more like 1 inch. Looking forward to trying the recipe. Ursula
Ps: You forgot the whipping cream in the ingredient list. I’m always glad if somebody points it out on my blog. I don’t wanna be a nitpicker ;-))
Happy holidays!
HI! Feel free to cut the bread as think or thin as you’d like. I typically cut anywhere from 1/4 to 1.2 inch. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Happy Holiday’s ? 🙂
I’m all for prepping ahead of time, especially when it has the chance to look like this!
Thank you Matt! I am so glad you like this!
I’m not sure if I can find Challa bread. What would be a good substitute?
You can substitute the Challah bread with any type of brioche but I highly recommend Panetonne if you can find it. It comes out amazing!
Brioche or Ciabatta would both be great. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Happy Holiday’s ? 🙂
This is my favorite kind of holiday breakfast dish! Perfect with that challah. Happy Holidays to you and your family Tieghan!
Thank you! Happy Holidays to you and your family Mary Ann!
haha i just love your family stories. A french toast ritual at your house sounds perfect! Can I come this year?
Of course lol! I am so happy you like my family stories Lindsay!
love this! so delicious!!! and beautiful!
Thank you Alice!
If i don´t have maple syrup (it’s hard to find in Portugal) and the alchool you use there what can i substitute it with?
In Portugal we have a tradicional dessert, thats very similar to this, and sometimes we use Porto Wine or Port Wine (vinho do porto), maybe i could use that?
Thanks
You can swap the alcohol with orange juice or omit it. Use an equal amount of brown sugar in place of the maple. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Happy Holiday’s ? 🙂
I seriously cannot wait to try this! Amazing flavors.
Thank you Jennifer!
I really want to make this for Christmas this year, but can’t find challah bread. Will it work to substitute French bread?
French bread will be great! Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Happy Holiday’s ? 🙂
Just made this recipe and followed it to the T, but the bottom did not come out crispy. What went wrong?
HI! I am so sorry for the trouble. How long did you bake? it might just be that you need to bake the french toast a little longer for a crispier bottom. If the top is browning, just cover with foil. Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Happy Holiday’s 🙂
Made this for this morning (Christmas Day 2017) for a bunch of picky eaters. I’m the only one crazed for french toast and this hands down was the best French Toast I’ve ever had!!!! Even Mom the pickiest of the eaters who doesn’t like french toast asked for seconds!!! Used the recipe exactly as is except for Cherry Preserves/Jam/Spread instead of the Raspberry. Will definitely make it again next year!!!
That is AMAZING! So glad everyone enjoyed this and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Lina! Thank you!
This overnight french toast was absolutely perfect for Christmas morning! I skimped a little on the brown sugar though because my family is sweet enough! I used orange juice instead of the Grand Marnier cuz that’s what I had. So easy—-so delicious!
I am so happy you enjoyed these Debra! Thank you!
This was a great hit at my house Christmas morning. It went FAST, no leftovers! Thank you, really love your recipes and I wish you a Happy New Year.
That is so great to hear! Thank you Robin! I hope your Christmas was amazing and Happy New Year!
I made this Christmas morning for my family and it was a hit! My dad is a pretty healthy eater so I had to sell him on how it was filled with protein filled eggs and cinnamon, but he gobbled it right up along with my brother, sister, and mom!
Although this dish was delish, and i love the holidays, I’m thrilled it’s healthy January on your blog! I don’t know about you, but after about a month of indulging like crazy on sugar and carbs, I’m ready for some yummy veggie and superfood recipes.
One thing I really miss… your 9 favorite things posts! And even more… how you used to give a “preview” of the upcoming week’s recipes!! Can we get those back?
Thanks for all the inspiration and fantastic posts!
Hey Libby! I am so happy you and your family enjoyed this recipe so much! Don’t worry, the Nine Favorite Things posts will be back soon! Thank you!!
BF expects this every Sunday morning now. I make it with your brioche. I do the cinnamon swirl but not the strudel. Its our Sunday brunch we look forward to every weekend.
Haha that is amazing! I am so glad you both love this recipe, Ginger! Thank you!
OH MY GOSH. thank you for this recipe! we had some friends over for brunch recently, i cook for them often and they requested french toast. standing at the stove sounded tedious so the day of i searched the internet for french toast i could bake but i wasn’t really digging any of the recipes. i love anything custard-y and with raspberry and luckily i had all the ingredients at home, so i gave it a go and it was sooooo freaking good. all my friends said its the best french toast they’ve ever had! we’re all huge fans of your blog now, just wanted to share 🙂
Hi Elise! I am so happy that these turned out amazing for you and your guests! Thank you!
Hi Tieghan,
I always enjoy your recipes! Everything is so good. I’m planning to try one of your French Toast recipes for Easter. I noticed you have this baked French Toast or regular French Toast that you book on the griddle. What is the difference between baking in the oven or cooking on the griddle? Is texture different? I like fluffy inside and crispy outside. Any recommendation?
HI! So this recipe is crispy on top and soft inside. It’s sweet and delicious. The recipe in the book is crunchy on the outside and soft in the center. It’s filled with peanut butter, so a little different, but it is also delicious. Either recipe is great! Please let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this recipe! Thanks! 🙂
This sounds delicious. I am hosting my adult son’s childhood friends and their spouses this weekend. Can I double the recipe?
If so, what size dish would you use and how long would you bake it? Thanks.
Hi Nancy! You can double the recipe, but I recommend splitting the french toast between 2 (9×13 inch) baking dishes. This will give you a better result and evenly cooked french toast. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thanks! xTieghan
OH MY SWEET LORD, Tieghan.
We made this for New Year’s Day brunch and it was phenomenal.
So easy to make the night before. Everyone from my picky grandma to picky 4 year old niece was a fan.
A new tradition for sure! Happy 2019!
Thank you so much Madeleine! I am so glad you loved this recipe!!
Hey! If someone didn’t find this receipt until an hour before dinner, and wanted to omit the extra hour in the fridge, would it be that big of deal? Asking for a friend. Hahaha.
Haha! No worries! Yup, you can omit an extra hour in the fridge. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Thus recipe is out of this world. It’s duper easy assembly and easy baking while your doing other things or attending to your guests. I do recommend making it the day before as the bread comes out softer and a fluffier texture vs. assembly and immediately baking. The key is using challah bs other breads! I’ve also tried adding golden raisins for a spin on this and it was delicious too. If you are not an avid cook, this is a fool proof recipe that turns out perfect every time!
Thank you so much Michelle! So glad you loved this recipe! xTieghan
Can the Creme Brulee French toast be made three days in advance?
Hi Sophia! Yes, you can make this 3 days ahead and keep in the fridge until ready to bake. I’d recommend allowing the french toast to come to room temp while the oven preheats. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I would be cooking it on Friday and serving on Sunday
Tieghan, could this be made ahead and frozen. If so would you freeze it before or after baking?
Thank you
Hello Pat! Yes you could make this ahead. I would suggest freezing after baking. Let us know how it works out!
Looks yummy … what would you serve with this for an 11 o’clock Christmas Brunch?
HI! I would add an egg dish, something savory! How about the below recipe? Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!! xTieghan

I have a friend that supplies my family with wonderful homemade sourdough each week. Would sourdough work with this recipe?
Hi Annette! Sourdough will give this a slightly different flavor, but it will be delicious! Great idea. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you and happy holidays! xTieghan
Hey! Can you make this ahead? Like, I think it would be perfect for Xmas morning but I don’t want to spend the time in the kitchen ☺️ Thanks!!
Hey Tiffany, you can prepare this up to 3 days ahead of time and keep in the fridge. To bake, remove from the fridge while the oven preheats, then bake as directed. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you and happy holidays! xTieghan
This looks perfect for my visitors for Christmas Eve morning or Christmas morning. I do not enjoy eating eggs much and prefer my French toast lighter in egg/custard. It looks very good though and the photos don’t look like it is too “custardy”. Maybe I’ll try a half recipe in smaller dish to test it out & see how it turns out. And if not if it’’s possible to make with less egg & milk & not be too dry.
I hope you do try it Kathleen! It is one of my favorites! Let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
If I make this in a ceramic pan do I have to let it sit to room temperature? Will the pan break?
HI! What do you mean? Why would the pan break? If you are refrigerating, yes let the dish sit for a bit at room temp before baking to take the chill off. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you and happy holidays! xTieghan
I made this over the weekend and it was so yummy! I didn’t have the Grand Marnier (orange liqueur) so I used the same measurement of fresh squeezed orange juice and also zested one orange. It’s a great flavor addition.
Thank you so much Karlee! xTieghan
This was a hit! Not too sweet and just the right amount of custard. Thank you so much!
Thank you! I am so glad this turned out so well for you Dani! xTieghan
This is a great breakfast! I LOVE recipes that can be put in the fridge to night before, making morning prep time minimal. I have probably made 15 or more different French toast overnight casseroles, this is by far the best. I followed the recipe to a “t” and would only make two suggestions. One; depending on the size of the challah bread loaf, one may not be enough. I needed about 1 1/3 to 1 1/2. Same sized pan in the recipe, so I would recommend having an extra loaf on hand. Two, thinning the raspberry preserves made for a great syrup. However, 1/2 cup of water made it a little thinner than I would have liked. I would cut that down to 1/3 or less (or add more preserves) for a syrup with a little more density. Amazing taste though, and will be a yearly Christmas staple. Thank you!
I am so glad you loved this Kathi! Thank you!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! xTieghan
This was delicious! The raspberry preserves really help cut the richness. I could not find challah bread, so I substituted with cinnamon brioche I found at Walmart and cut back the cinnamon. Mine did not get crispy on the bottom. I think it was because I had to put foil on it straight out of the oven to take to my aunt’s house.
I am so glad this turned out so well for you Elizabeth! Thank you! xTieghan
Best French toast I’ve ever tasted or made!! I added some fresh frozen rhubarb to strawberry jam and it created the most amazing syrup based on your instructions. What a great idea—genius.
Thank you so much Janet! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Hi! I made this and it was delicious but the center of the bread was soggy. The top was crispy. I baked it for 50 minutes and made it up the night before. What should I do differently? Thanks!
Hi Shana! Next time, try covering the french toast with foil for the first 30 minutes, then bake uncovered for another 20-30 minutes. The extra 10 minutes should take care of the sogginess and the foil will keep the top from burning. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you and Happy New Year! xTieghan
!!baked creme brulee French toast
Yes!! xTieghan
This is the BEST French toast recipe…EVER! Used to just make it for Christmas brunch but now it is a staple in the breakfast menu 🙂 Super easy and you can prepare it the night before and stick it in the fridge. Easy, fast and so incredibly delicious!
Thank you Ashley!! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I made this for Christmas breakfast it was a huge hit. Do yummy Just thinking about this recipe is making me 🤤
Thank you Shawn! I am really glad you enjoyed this one! xTieghan
Looks incredible! Can this be made ahead of time in the frozen or would it ruin the integrity of the bread going through the defrosting process? Thanks!
Hey Christine,
You could freeze this after baking and then reheat when you are ready to enjoy! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
This is a fabulous recipe! I have made this about five times, but haven’t had a crunchy bottom on the French Toast. I am trying again tomorrow. Do you have any suggestions? I really want that creme brûlée crunch. Thanks in advance!
jeanette
Hey Jeanette,
Thank you so much for trying the recipe, I am glad you have enjoyed! So while the sugars will caramelize on top of the French toast, it really isn’t realistic to get that “classic” creme brûlée crunch due to the lack of custard. Hope this makes sense! xTieghan
I do not have orange Liquor, Would it mess up the recipe if I used bourbon instead? Or should I stick with the whole orange flavor?
Hey Mary,
You could do bourbon! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Can I substitute almond milk for the Whole milk ? It looks delicious and perfect for Christmas morning.
Hey Sheri,
Yes, almond milk will work. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
If you can’t find challah bread, what could you use as an alternative?
Merry Christmas! Lovely your 2020 menu inspirations
Hey Angela,
Brioche would be a great alternative! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Can you substitute Cointreau for Grand Mariner? Thank you!
Hey Karen,
Yes, that will work well. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
My grocery store doesn’t have challah. What can I use instead?
Hey Ainsley,
I would use brioche! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
My little guy is allergic to eggs. Any recommendations for an egg replacement?
Hey Crystal,
So sorry I have not tested this recipe without egg. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Making this for my family this christmas eve. How long can I keep this in the fridge before baking? Don’t want to let it sit for too long!
Hey Anna,
I would leave this for no more than 24 hours. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
This looks delicious and we are trying to make it for Christmas morning! Would it be okay to prepare two nights in advance and keep in the fridge?
Hey Kelly,
Yes, that will work well. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Hi! This looks amazing. I just finished the prep and I’m planning to bake it in the morning (for my family). On a diff note, I’m celiac, and I was trying to make a small separate dish with Gluten Free bread. I just used a few slices that I already had in my fridge just to try it that way. Any suggestions on the type of GF bread that I could use next time? I’m not sure if you are familiar with the different GF breads available out there, but I thought I’d ask. Thank you! (And Merry Christmas!).
Hey Romy,
I would try finding a GF brioche bread! I hope you love the recipe! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Well this was delicious, and I’d love to keep some in the freezer! Can you recommend how to best store/freeze/reheat? Thank you so much it is our FAVORITE ever!!!
Hey Adrienne,
I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe, thanks so much for giving it a try! I would store covered in the fridge and bake covered with foil to reheat. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Hi,how large was challah bread loaf you used? The one I bought it is 15 oz and seems too small for 9×13 inch pan,I am thinking to use 8×8. Wondering if need to adjust the ingredients (milk and eggs). What would you recommend doing it? Thank you and Merry Christmas
Hey Agne,
I would follow the recipe as is and use an 8×8 dish if you feel that will work better for your loaf. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Could I use brioche bread for this recipe instead of challah??
Hey Danni,
Yes, brioche would work well here. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
This was so easy! I even substituted the challah for chocolate chip Panettone for extra holiday flare and it was amazing!!!! Paired it with HBH coconut hot chocolate complete with marshmallow snowmen. It was all a big hit with all my kids. Thanks for your amazing recipes Tieghan. I have never tried a recipe of yours I didn’t like. Even bought your book as a result. Great work!
Hey Maria,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled that it worked out for you. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Loved this. Although I couldn’t find Challah bread in my local store, french bread worked great. Pretty easy recipe, don’t skip the Grande Marnier. Made it the night before for an easy Christmas morning breakfast. I baked covered with foil for the fist 30 minutes so as not to have the top overly cooked. Made with strawberry sauce and fresh whipped cream.
Hey Kathy,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled that it worked out for you. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
This was so FANTASTIC!!! Best recipe I have made in a long time!
Hey Kim,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled that it worked out for you. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
A perfect Christmas morning breakfast- yum!
Hey Katie,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled that it worked out for you. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
This was delicious! We made this Christmas morning and it turned out beautifully. Another great recipe to add to the collection.
Hey Melissa,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled that it worked out for you. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
The simplest and most delicious French toast that I have ever made. The entire family loved it!
Hey Jodi,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am so glad you enjoyed! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Hi! Thanks for sharing this recipe! I followed it exactly but the bottom didn’t come out crispy and the extra egg mixture that I poured over the bread just turned into baked egg in the oven. There wasn’t that much mixture left over so I’m not sure why. Any suggestions? Also, do you adjust your recipes at all for altitude differences? I’ve baked a couple of your recipes at my home in Denver and they came out perfectly. But then back home at sea level, things seem to bake differently.
Hey Sam,
I am so sorry you had issues with the recipe, was there anything you may have adjusted? No need to adjust anything for altitude you can follow my recipes as is! Please let me know how I can help. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
If I’m making half the recipe, how long should I bake it for?
Hey Tamar,
I would follow the baking instructions as is. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
This french toast was fantastic! It’s not too sweet and smells amazing. My mother-in-law already asked when I will make it again so I know it’s a winner.
Hey Nat,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled that it worked out for you! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Amazing! I made this for my family for Christmas and it was such a big hit! I loved being able to prep it the night before and just pop it in the oven in the morning. I used fresh raspberry preserves from the summer. A perfect topping to the creme brûlée French toast. This one is going down in the books.
Hey Kim,
I am so glad you enjoyed the recipe, thanks so much for giving it a try! Happy New Year! xTieghan
OH MY GOSH!! There is not one recipe of yours that I’ve made which isn’t good. This French bread one is absolutely delicious!!!! Great rave reviews from my family. THANK YOU for all you do! 🥰
Hey Li,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled it was a hit! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Sadly, this did not work out for me. The flavours were great. However, there was far too much liquid so my bread did not crisp up apart from the crusts. I used Brioche and had about half the slices pictured, so I halved the recipe. I ended up throwing most of it away, a disappointing waste of ingredients.
Hey Carissa,
So sorry you did not enjoy the recipe, please let me know if I can help in anyway. Happy New Year! xTieghan
We loved this french toast casserole, so much so that my husband requested it to become our new Christmas morning breakfast tradition! I ended up using orange zest and orange juice in lieu of the Grand Mariner since I’m currently breastfeeding.
Hey Cherry,
Thank you so much for making the recipe. I am thrilled that it was enjoyed! xTieghan
Hi. I was wondering if it would be too soggy if I make it at night and bake in the morning for brunch? Looking forward to trying this recipe!!
Thanks!
Hey Ilayda,
Totally fine to keep this in the fridge overnight. I hope you enjoy the recipe. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Last weekend in January 2021 and I finally got around to making this one as a tread for Sunday. The only thing I did differently was change out the preserve for fresh raspberries and added creme fraiche instead of heavy cream. It was delicious though 🙂
Hey Colleen,
I am thrilled this recipe was enjoyed, thanks so much for giving it a try! xTieghan
