Nine Favorite Things.
rThanks for joining me for another Nine Favorite Things post!
Hi, hi! Hope you guys are all staying warm and cozied up this weekend! I know many of us are dealing with fridged temps right now. All the more reason to stay warm inside and bake up a little cake…I mean, right? Yes, yes, let’s bake!
This week has been bizarre weather-wise for so many across the US. Nothing unusual here in Colorado, but for states like Texas, Oklahoma, and Mississippi that rarely see sub-zero temps and days of snow, it’s been a crazy and scary week. Since so many are struggling and working to get back to normal, I wanted to share an easy way to help if you are able.
Baby2Baby provides children living in poverty with diapers, clothing, and all the basic necessities that every child deserves. Their Disaster Relief program has blankets, warm socks, winter coats, hats, diapers, wipes, soap, formula, and more all on the way to children severely impacted by the winter storms. If you’re able, you can donate here. I understand that not all of us have the means to give right now. But I want to try and highlight causes that are doing so much good and giving back. Baby2Baby is an organization that we love to support.
Switching gears a bit now. if you guys follow along on Instagram, you might have seen a story featuring my older brother, Creighton go up on Friday night. Creigh has been here in Colorado since March. He’s working from home like everyone else, so he figured why not spend the time closer to everyone in CO. The thing about Creigh is that he LOVES food more than anyone. I can’t say it’s all particularly good food, but regardless, he loves to eat and he can be pretty fun to cook for.
One day last weekend I had to work on the computer all day. So when he stopped into the studio for his daily, “sooo, what did you make today”, visit, he was pretty bummed to find me not cooking a thing. He said that all I’d made all week was soup and it was lame. And then somehow, that turned into a very passionate conversation about Taco Bell and his favorite taco of all the time, The Cheesy Gordita CRUNCH. There was so much excitement and legitimate passion coming from him that clearly, I had to share his excitement on IG. What was shocking to me was just how many of you loved the story…and that Cheesy Gordita Crunch taco. There was so much excitement that I created the recipe at home and shared it first thing Monday AM.
And you know something? I have to say, it is a delicious taco. But all this excitement got me thinking. One, I clearly need to feature Creighton and all his rants more often, because it was pretty obvious that everyone greatly enjoyed the laugh. And two, I wonder what other restaurant favorites are on everyone’s lists? Living where we live, we really don’t go out to eat very often. So I’d love to hear what you guys like to order? Should I do more restaurant-style remakes? Let me know your favorites!
Oh! And do you guys remember last week how I was looking for a new desk lamp? Well, I found two that I LOVE. Of course, they’re not available to ship until April and May…and they’re also a little pricier. But I think they are gorgeous! Should I bite the bullet and order them? I do feel like they could be nice statement pieces that I would have for a while. I love the look of this one for my desk. And then this one I’d really love for a console table in the entryway of the studio. I’m not crazy, they’re pretty cool, right?
In other news, while this week was actually pretty good, I got hit with some “unsettlingly” emails on Wednesday. They threw me off the entire day and even into Thursday. I’m 100% over it now. But I will say that it makes me sad to see how much negativity and hate takes place in our world today.
I know I’ve chatted about this in a Favorite’s post before, so I won’t go into any real detail. But I think when times are stressful and uncertain it’s all the more reason to really go above and beyond to be kind and think of others. Before you try to tear someone down for no reason at all, stop and think about why you’re doing that. Just try changing your mindset and doing something positive instead. Bake someone cookies, send flowers or a candle, or shovel someone’s steps. I really think it’s going to make you feel 110% happier inside.
Tearing others down doesn’t get you anywhere, it just worsens your mindset. Trust me, I know. I’ve been there, and I still slip up. But as cheesy as it sounds, kindness and giving back is KEY. Ok, that’s all!
Lastly, some very happy and exciting family news…little brother Oslo’s adoption will be FINAL tomorrow! While it’s felt final since day one, I know my mom is relieved and excited. My parents went through what seemed like every hurdle possible to adopt over the last three years and while we all believe that every step happened for a reason, it was still an emotional roller coaster. Finalizing everything just gives everyone a little sense of relief. We can’t imagine the fam without Oslo now!
Here are some photos to hopefully give you all a smile today. He is getting so big!
Coming up this week, I’ll be sharing everyone’s favorite Chinese-inspired takeout dinner, but made at home and healthier. A new breakfast recipe that’s perfect for cold winter mornings and early spring days. On Wednesday I have a fun twist on one of my favorite childhood foods. Then we’ll move onto a crazy easy, but delicious pasta. And for Friday, something heavy on the chocolate! Very excited about each recipe!
1. Things i’m loving, wanting, and excited to try…
loving…my Tulip Magnolia Branches. They are starting to blossom and are SO PRETTY!
watching…Beauty Secrets with Kendall Jenner. I love these Vogue videos so much. I know nothing about applying makeup, so I actually learn a lot from them
loving…my Chunky Chain Necklace. I’ve been wearing this so much! Also, I love this more affordable version. And this one too!
thinking about ordering…Blue Light Glasses. If I’m not cooking/shooting, I’m looking at a screen. Wondering if blue light glasses are worth it. Does anyone use them? This pair is simple but cute!
loving…this Chanel 19 Large Flap Bag. I would never splurge on this, nor do I have anywhere to carry it. BUT I sure do appreciate its fun design.
loving…Beis Baby Bag. Or I should say my mom is. She’s obsessed with this bag, she loves the wide mouth opening. New moms check it out, she has the backpack. And I LOVE the mini work tote.
ordered…QUAI Treatment Hair Mask. My hair has been so, so, so dry. And it greatly needs a cut, but I’m excited to try this and see if it helps!
thinking about ordering…this Puffer Vest from Zara. I love the look of a vest, but I never seem to have the right time to wear it.
loving…my Alice and Olivia Cashmere sweater. I only have a few cashmere sweaters, but this is so soft and I love the fun blue color. I also found a couple more affordable options from & Other Stories that are very similar. Also loving their cashmere scarf and beanie.
watching…Letters to Juliet. A movie suggestion from HBH reader Colleen last week…Asher, my mom, and I thought it was so cute!
loving…these Williams Sonoma Goldtouch baking sheets. I use them every day.

4. Favorite Questions Of The Week…
q: Did you enjoy school?
a: No I actually hated school and had a ton of anxiety growing up. It was just never my thing. I hated being in a classroom all day long and never felt comfortable at school. When I started high school, I took college courses for high school credit and graduated early with an Associate’s Degree. That’s when I started HBH.
Throughout middle school and high school are when I grew my love of cooking. I’d cook for my family after school and used cooking as a creative release. I had a lot of fun playing around with new recipes. I cooked pretty much every night and I swear it got me through high school.
q: I saw you went to school in LA for fashion! Wondering if that school was FIDM?
a: It was! But I never started. I lived in LA a few months, then decided it wasn’t what I wanted. After LA is when I started HBH. That was the summer after I graduated from high school. Our first blog post was in October 2012
I think FIDM would have been an amazing school though. I sometimes wonder “what if”. But in the end, I LOVE what I’m doing so much. Now I style food instead of clothes. Haha. But I’ve been getting back into clothes more and more these days. I love any kind of styling/design. I’m always trying to make everything around me pretty.
q: I want to know what lotion you use? I am in NYC and it is so drying on my face.
a: I swear by Vintner’s Daughter Serum. And then I layer on Augustinus Bader the Rich Cream. The two together work like magic. These are on the pricy side, but I think they’re worth it. I also LOVE using Biossance Vitamin C + Rose Oil and Repair Cream. And another favorite is the Mutha Face Oil.
q: How did you learn to create recipes of your own?
a: Mostly through trial and error. I’m such a visual person, I learn so much more by doing versus reading. I need to try things, then adjust.
q: Was cooking always a big part of your family life growing up?
a: No! Not at all. As my dad puts it, he cooked to “survive”. Aka get food on the table and feed the fam. It was always very basic, but still good! My dad is a great cook, he just didn’t ever try too hard in the kitchen. Cooking wasn’t something anyone in my family was very into. Though my mom has always loved to bake!
q: How long did it take you to hit 50K page views per month?
a: I have no idea. I’ve never kept track of the numbers. That’s always been something that’s stressed me out, so I just don’t pay attention. Instead, I focused/focus on creating the best content I can. I am a firm believer that good content always rules.
5. Learning Through Podcasts.
I know I talk about my favorite podcasts all the time. But lately, I’ve been enjoying listening to podcasts more than ever before. I’ve had to stop listening while working, as I found them to be too distracting. I’m now squeezing them into times when I really don’t need to be using my brain. So, for example, I’ll listen at night once I get home from the studio while getting dinner together. Or maybe while doing daily house chores. Or even while putting on make-up, or taking an afternoon walk. Basically, I’m just squeezing in a few minutes here and there, but I am loving learning. With a little more focus, I’ve been able to actually take in more from each podcast instead of just kind of half-listening. And I am really enjoying it!
This isn’t something I used to say about myself, but I’m finding that I really love learning, and learning from others. I love to listen to podcasts with business founders, athletes, and anyone who has a story to tell, whether I feel like I can fully relate or not. Filling my headspace with inspiring knowledge has really been a new source of inspiration for me.
Here are some recent favorites I’ve really enjoyed…
Nate Berkus & Jeremiah Brent | More Than One Thing with Athena Calderone – actually in the middle of this, but love it so far.
Maria Sharapova: Founder and CEO of Sugarpova and Former Professional Tennis Player – enjoyed this for a motivational kick.
Jen Atkin on Say Yes To The Dress – always love listening to Jen. Her business and life perspective are so good.
CEO and Serial Entrepreneur Katherine Power’s Life With Marianna – loved learning about how Katherine built her multiple brands.
The Joe Rogan Experience with Miley Cyrus – my dad got me onto this podcast. While I have only listened to this episode, I really enjoyed it. I’m not a big Miley Cyrus fan but actually was able to relate to this in a lot of ways. I enjoyed hearing about what it was like growing up in the way that she did.
Question: do you listen to The Joe Rogan Experience? He has SO MANY episodes, where should I start?
How India Oxenberg Survived Life Inside A Sex Cult – I didn’t expect to be interested in this, but actually found it to be incredibly interesting…and honestly, mind boggling.
Celebrating the GOAT GOD– shockingly I’m really enjoying learning about Tom Brady and his career. He’s got a pretty incredible perspective on life.
LG QUICKIE: Meet Our Galentine’s – just for fun or if you need a break from life for a minute.
Melissa Wood-Tepperberg on Half Naked Podcast – I have not listened to this yet, but I’m looking forward to it next chance I get.
Question: I’m curious, what podcast do you listen to and love?

Well, I’m loving little Oslo’s chicken pants..lol..Those are so cute! Can you ask your mom where she got those? Very cute photos of him. First time I’ve seen him smile!
Hey Colleen,
Thanks so much for your kind message, they really are the cutest! She found them at a boutique in Breckenridge called Magical Scraps. xTieghan
Thanks for another week. I’m still hoping sometime the future we can get an HBH meal kit going. Where I live in the n georgia mountains, our biggest chain store is 50 miles away down a very curvy mountain. Anyway – just thought it would be very cool.
Hey Janet,
Thanks for reading along, what a fun idea! Have a great week! xTieghan
I do listen to Joe Rogan, I enjoy his long form conversations. I am not a MMA fan, so I often skip over those episodes and look for guests in fields I want to learn about or find interesting/relate to. Then I work my way through the conversation during the week! Other podcasts I love – Gastropod (haven’t listened in a while, but science and history of food), The Daily, Freakanomics
Hey Anna,
Thanks for reading today! Thanks for the podcast recommendations:) xTieghan
Nine Favourite Things has been a part of my Sunday morning routine for a while now. I love it! The best part of today’s post are the photos of Oslo. What a beautiful baby your little brother is! I am sorry that you have received some upsetting emails but even more sorry that they threw you off and upended your week. In the future I hope that you can send them straight to the cyber trash can and move beyond them. Your poise and ability to reflect on this is mature beyond your years. Stay focused on you and the creative goodness you are putting out in to the world. Thank you for being part of my treasured Sunday routine!
Hey Cindy,
Thanks for reading along, I am so glad you have been enjoying the posts on Sundays. I love that you enjoy the photos of Oslo as much as we do:) Also, thanks for your positive message, have the best week! xTieghan
Thanks for another favorite things post! Always enjoy them, and I was also eyeing the Ouai hair mask this week also…too funny! Did you end up getting the Summer Friday’s Lip Butter you posted about last week? One restaurant remake I’d love to see a recreation of is the Applebee’s Oriental Chicken Salad, its my default when I dine there. 🙂 Have a great week!
Hey Heather,
Thanks for reading:) I haven’t ordered the lip balm yet, it’s sitting in my cart lol. Love the idea of this salad, thanks for the inspo! xTieghan
I love your recipes and your blog. So much fun to see all the interesting information. Oslo is so precious! loved seeing his pictures.
Thanks so much for your kind message and reading along Rosa! xTieghan
Thank you once again for your always positive and uplifting blog. Disturbing that anyone would need to send anything negative to you . After having a negative experience myself last week, I wondered why anyone would feel that they were any further ahead or lifted up by being mean. It must come from a dark place in them. Also love Joe Rogan! Keep up the great work and I look forward to reading your news each Sunday over coffee!!
Hey Jacqui,
Thanks so much for reading along, I am so glad you enjoyed today’s post. Your positive message made my day:) xTieghan
Always look forward to your 9 favorite things post! Thought I would comment about the blue light glasses. I HIGHLY recommend especially if you are going to be on the computer or even using your phone a lot in a day. I got the blue light blocking on my Rx glasses and will never go back. Also if you are on your computer or on your phone close to bedtime, it blocks your eyes from seeing it as daylight so it doesn’t mess up your circadian rhythm making it easier to sleep. Hope that helps!!
Hey Holly,
Thanks for reading along! Thanks for the blue light recommendation, I definitely think they are something worth purchasing! xTieghan
Glad you are staying positive…you got this! You and your family are so very blessed. Congrats to your parents (and your family) on adorable and precious Oslo’s adoption!!! And yes to more food lovin & funny Creighton videos!!! xx
Thanks so much for your super kind message and reading along today Cindy:) xTieghan
I just bought a pair of blue light glasses from Felix Gray and Baxter Blue. They’re pricier but I wasn’t a fan of the $20 ones I got off Amazon. The two companies have free returns, so I’ll get them both this week and see which one I like more!
Thanks for the recommendation Kim!! xTieghan
Why do people feel the need to say mean things? You’re right that it doesn’t ever make them feel any better. Also you attract what you put out, so the more negative energy you put out in the world, the more of that will return to you. Be kind and do good, even if it’s for selfish reasons of wanting goodness to come to you! 🙂
PS- I loved hearing your story of how and when HBH started even though I kind of already knew. But I wanted to let you know I use you as an example to my own kids that you don’t have to follow the traditional path, sometimes you just have to trust your instincts and follow your heart and it will lead you to a fulfilling career doing what you love. Thanks for being that model.
Hey Cassie,
Thanks for reading and your thoughtful message:) I love that you can use my story as an example for your kids, I think it is so important for them to know you don’t always have to do what everyone else is doing! Have the best week:) xTieghan
I just discovered your blog and got lost for hours, and ordered several new things! I don’t how you come up with so much content but I love all of it! It’s pretty much a combination of all the things I love, home decor, family, self improvement, beauty, fashion & cooking! Great job!
Hey Amie,
Thanks so much for following along! I hope you love everything:) xTieghan
Oslo is getting so big and such a cutie. And that smile of his can melt hearts. Those chicken pants are great. Perfect. I love both lamps but I personally lean towards the Sienna, I like the lighter color. You just got me in the mood to bake, today may be a chocolate cookie day.
I hope everyone has a great week. Stay safe! Also I found the chicken pants on a website called “Milkbarn”
Hey Karen,
Thanks so much for your kind message, Oslo sure is something special:) Have the best week! xTieghan
Hey-if you want to learn more about blu-block glasses, check out Melanie Avalon’s biohacking podcast. I learned a lot about different types of protection and how much all our time on screens impacts our sleep (among other things). She has a particular kind she recommends because not all are good quality.
Then you can ask me why it is that my two big interests are cooking HBH recipes and learning about intermittent fasting 😉.
On another note, I am so sorry that your week was affected by some garbage arriving by email. It must be so disheartening. Please know that when people behave like that it is not because of anything you did, nothing you do can prevent it either. Learning a few tricks to help you put it out of your mind quickly and not let it take over your headspace is worth learning. Who has time for that nonsense?
Stay well!
Hey Beth,
Thanks so much for your recommendation on the blue light post, will definitely check this out. Thank you for your positive note:) xTieghan
Restaurant food that I want to make better at home: Phad Thai! Have tried lots of times, never tastes like our local Thai restaurant. Ditto Phad See Ew! Also, sweet potato fries and fish and chips!!!
Love these ideas Lisa!! xTieghan
I love reading these posts every sunday! I am excited to try your latest taco bell recipe….I will be making your greek meatball and orzo recipe for dinner tomorrow. Have you ever tried red lobsters’s cheddar bay biscuits? I wonder if there is a healthier recipe for these. Joe Rogan’s podcast is so popular; I will need to try it! The “Chicks in the Office” podcast is the pop culture podcast I didn’t know I needed, but it has become my guilty pleasure. Anyway, I always enjoy your links to various resorts! It’s nice to imagine traveling out of the cold midwest at this time 🙂
Hey Emily,
Thanks for always reading along:) I hope you love the greek meatballs! I have not tried tried the biscuits, maybe I will have to try experimenting:) xTieghan
Hi Tieghan,
Another great post to start my week – thank you! I am all about the power of positivity and it sounds as if you are too! YES to the blue light glasses – and you can get more affordable options on Amazon. Since last March, I have had to log much more computer time and my eyes were becoming itchy, irritated and dry. The glasses have been a game changer! My eye health has improved 100%. I have ordered them for my kids and husband. No one knows the long term effect of all of this blue light on our eyes, so we need to protect them.
And a fun feature of the week would be your “family favorites” – dishes your family loves or wants you to make. My son is just like your brother and we have done so much with Buffalo chicken since that post a few weeks ago. Peace, love and happiness this week!
Hey Susan,
Thanks so much for reading today and your review with the blue light glasses! Have the best week:) xTieghan
You should 100% get those Blue Light blocking glasses. I needed to get some this year due to more screen time with work, and my glasses have stopped me from getting migraines!
Anyways, I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoy your Instagram account and of course all the delicious meals I’ve made since I started following you. Thank you!
Thank you so much Bailey, this was super helpful! xTieghan
I’ve followed your recipes for years and have just started reading Nine Favorite Things this winter abs look forward to every week! I I’m so inspired by your kindness and authenticity as well as your food abs fashion savvy! I just turned 50 and am learning so much from you! You are a bright light! Keep shining! 🌟
Hey Jill,
Thanks so much for your thoughtful message and reading today! You are so kind:) xTieghan
Smartless has been my favorite podcast during the pandemic. Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and a surprise guest each week – you’ll laugh out loud for a solid hour!
Thanks so much for the recommendation Jeannie! xTieghan
First of all – I Can Not believe some people would write you ugly and hateful emails!!! What’s the point? No one is forcing them to follow you!!!! What is wrong with people???? So so many love everything about following you that I can’t imagine someone stooping so low as to write a hateful email. Please try to ignore them, although I’m sure it’s hard. Just remember how much joy you bring to so many!!
Second – love the pictures of Oslo!!!!! His smile is the best! More Oslo please!
Third – Blue Light Glasses. I don’t personally use them but my two daughters and daughter-in-law do and they SWEAR by them!! They say they help immensely!
Keep up the great work Tieghan!! I love following all of your posts!!
Hey Ellen,
Thanks for your kind message and positive feedback:) So glad to hear about the blue light glasses and will of course share more of Oslo! xTieghan
We made the cheesy Gordita tacos last night. They were delicious! The only change we made was using Penzey’s Taco seasoning for the meat mixture and adding a little Sriracha at the end. Great recipe, thank you!
Hey Kim,
I am so glad you have enjoyed the recipe, thanks so much for making it! Have a great week! xTieghan
I’m sorry those negative emails happened to you. It is an unsettling time and people are lashing out. I really enjoy your posts. Thank you for sharing pictures of your family and their stories with us. Oslo is adorable (and I also love the chicken pants). Congratulations!!!
Thanks so much for your kind message Sue:) xTieghan
Beautiful post as always! I love Joe Rogan haha – my husband likes to listen to his podcasts while he falls asleep & while he falls asleep within 10 minutes, I’m always stuck listening to them because i get hooked! He definitely has some good ones! Also LOVE the Skinny Confidential Podcast…that’s one of the only ones I’m consistent with, there honestly hasn’t been an episode I’ve disliked. I’ll definitely be listening to the one you listed also, the one with Melissa Wood – LOVE her!
Hope you have a great week! xo
Madi
Hey Madi,
Lol too funny about Joe Rogan! Yes, same love the Skinny Confidential! Have a great week:) xTieghan
YES TO PODCASTS. Pretty much into true crime But as a graduate of the Dick Wolf School of Law, I’m also dabbling in legal and current events.
Power: the Maxwells (about Ghislane Maxwell’s family)
You’re wrong about;
Brainwashed
Someone Knows Something
The Case Files
Finding Cleo
Above the Law
American Scandal
As an aside, your little brother is so adorbs. Wishing my son was still at that age.
As far as the nasty messages, as the kids say: “If you ain’t got no haters, you ain’t poppin”
Keep your chin up
Hey Harley,
Thanks so much for all of these podcast recommendations, so awesome!! Thanks for your kind message and reading along! xTieghan
Love the pics of Oslo, and to see him smiling warmed my heart. Yay for the adoption being final!!!! Don’t know how I missed Crighton’s story, bc I make a point of checking your IG posts/stories before bed as a sure way to end the day on a positive note. Which makes it even harder to understand the haters. My take on it is that people reflect who they are. I can now feel genuinely sorry for ppl who are nasty and mean. It must be a huge burden to carry all that meanness through life. Not that it excuses their behavior. I choose not to let them into my world, but can still feel compassion for them. Usually lol. You bring light to people’s lives, along with deliciousness. That’s a gift no one can take from you. M
Hey Maria,
Thanks so much, I am so glad you have been enjoying the photos of Oslo, he is the best❤️ xTieghan
You have done it once again! I love Sunday mornings and 9 things. I have to get up early on Sunday morning to teach a class. I always looks to see if 9 things is there before I start! It makes me so happy to have something to look forward too. Where do you find all the really great links? Like this week the Kaleb Wyse article and the glass wear from Crate and Barrel. Do you have set sites you visits every so often? The links are so extensive I just wonder how you find them? Anyway , thank you for sharing each week. By the way – I make the Brussel sprout pizza so often, my children love it and ask for when they are home. Oh my, little Oslo is so cute. That smile is melting hearts every where!
Hey Jamie,
Thanks so much for reading along each week! Lol lots of searching to find the links:) SO glad you enjoyed the pizza! xTieghan
This is my first time commenting but just wanted to let you know that you rock and haters are always going to hate. Thanks for making the world a better, more delicious place to live in!
Thanks so much Ashley:) xTieghan
Yes, highly recommend blue light glasses! They have made a huge difference for me. I get significantly fewer headaches now after sitting in front of my computer screen all day.
Armchair Expert has become one of my favorite podcasts! The one this week with Erin Meyer was super interesting, about how different cultures communicate, make decisions, view time, give feedback, etc.
Thanks so much Mariah! I definitely think I need to give them a try. I love the Armchair Expert as well! xTieghan

Thanks so much for your thoughtful message and reading along. I am so glad you have been enjoying the blog:) xTieghan
Yay baby pictures! He is sooooo cute! So happy to hear the adoption was finalized.
Thank you so much Carrie:) xTieghan
Makes me so sad the hate or negative emails when you provide so much joy, fun, character, inspiring posts-recipes or Nine Fave Things. I know I’ve mentioned before but so timely- Listen to Alphabet of the Heart meditation. Fascinating – story (Into the Magic Shop book, mentioned before). But a very grounding g hold and mediation – true story. You be you! You’re amazing and truly inspiring!
Thanks so much for your thoughtful message Nancy! Have a wonderful week:) xTieghan
You are amazing! Just wanted you to know that!! Thanks for keeping me inspired!🙏💓
Thank you Hope:) xTieghan
Always look forward to your Sunday blog! Thank you for all your efforts and love your recipes! So nice to have links to all of your thoughts and discoveries!
Thanks so much for reading along and your kind message Peggy! xTieghan
What your family, especially your parents, are doing for Olso is so amazing. Thank you for sharing the pictures. When we first saw his picture he seemed to be in pain. Now look at him, so healthy and happy. It would be interesting to read some of your mother’s journey with him.
Thanks for sharing,Judy
Hey Judy,
Thanks for your kind message, we do truly love Oslo and are so blessed to have him in our lives. xTieghan
Another great Nine Favorite Things! I always love reading them and find so many interesting tidbits. Don’t know how you find so many interesting topics to delve into but keep it up!
Thanks for reading Lulu, I truly appreciate it! xTiegham
You’ve got one of the best blogs of the internet so while it’s natural you’re a target, it upsets me. You are doing something right if you have haterz ( to paraphrase Kat Williams). Please keep doing what you’re doing! Your 9 favorite things are full of light and positivity and that shines through the screen.
To the haterz, take a moment and breathe. What’s happening in your life that you need to address? Seek to remedy that and focus your actions on building others up, not tearing them down.
Hey Katherine,
Thanks for your positive message, I appreciate you being here and reading along!! Have a great week:) xTieghan
You should invest in the lamp(s) you love. They’ll last a lifetime, and you’ll enjoy looking at them every day. Maybe consider two of the same style in case you want to move them to another spot in your home in the future and need matching lamps.
Thank you so much Kay:) xTieghan
Thank you for your favorite things newsletter. It is my favorite part of my week. I love sitting down with coffee and reading your story and weekly inspiration. It inspires me to cook and finds ways to be creative with food and drinks. Thank you! I know people can be negative. I think people try to bring people down or finds flaws in them because they see the flaws within themselves, deflection. Keep doing what you are doing because you bring joy to so many. As long as you can be positive and carry a positive message through food or other means, that is all you can continue to do. On a side note, the flower Pinterest board photos are so pretty! All the darkness and cold that winter has brung, the flowers are much needed. And Oslo… keep posting. He is so cute! Huge fan or Joe Rogan, he brings all walks of life and perspective to his show. He always makes me think and listen to a different point of view. They are fun!
Cheers.
Hey Scarlett,
Thanks for reading along every Sunday and your positive reminder:) Of course I will continue to share Oslo and love that you enjoy Joe Rogan as do I! xTieghan
I’ve joked many times that podcasts are my love language. They are one of my favorite forms of media, and I love encouraging people to listen to the ones that really got to me. Here’s some I’d recommend:
– How to Save a Planet (super motivational!)
– Heavyweight (start with the episode “Jesse”!!)
– You’re Wrong About (I recommend to most people to start with the Jessica Simpson series, or the Princess Diana series!)
– The Nod (no longer being produced but stellar archives)
– Reply All (I love them, but they are currently having a reckoning over their series on Bon Ap – lots of articles about it)
– Dead Eyes/My Dad Wrote a Porno (two you need to start from the beginning – but worth it!)
Hey Erin,
Wow!! Thanks so much for the recommendations:) xTieghan
I love Nine Favorite Things. I look forward to reading it every Sunday when I take a moment away from my family and have a quiet few minutes to myself. I had a baby March 2020 and when she’d wake up in the night to eat, I’d hope it was 3:30am PT or later so your newsletter would be in my inbox. Thank you for dedicating so much time and energy in creating this positive, uplifting, and inspiring newsletter!
PS- for podcasts, I love The Indicator by Planet Money (NPR). 8-10 minutes long and discuss an economically relevant story. My description probably makes it sound boring but I promise it’s quite interesting!
Hey Jenna,
Thanks so much for reading along and your podcast recommendations! xTieghan
Yes, to blue light glasses! Try PeeperSpecs ~
Thank you Kate! xTieghan
Don’t let the haters get to you Tieghan! We all love you and your site exactly the way you are! And yes yes yes More Creighton! He is adorable. I am the mother of all
Boys and I know how excited they can get about Taco Bell and good food in general.
My favorite eating out place is Wingers and I LOVE the sticky finger salad! It’s the best! Would love to see your version! Thanks for all you do to make the world a more beautiful place!
Thanks so much for your wonderful message Rachel:) I’ll have to check out the sticky finger salad, thanks for the inspo! xTieghan
Unhappy people…there are always some, but so glad you can let it roll off. You are an incredible young lady with so much talent and knowledge and a lovely heart.
Love the pics of Oslo, it’s so fun to see him filled out and smiling!
Thanks so much Sandi!! xTieghan
Another great Sunday blog post and I also love Oslo’s cute chicken pants, he looks so happy and content, it’s so lovely to see. I am sorry to hear that you’ve had email hassles last week. It does upset me when I hear about these things. We have been in a pandemic for a year now, it doesn’t cost anything to be kind to people and I wish that those people who are struggling would think before they lash out their frustrations on others. Sending you hugs.
As for The Joe Rogan Experience, my partner and I watch a lot of his podcasts. My partner started following Joe Rogan a few years ago, as Joe commentates some of the MMA fights, as well as being a black belt in ju jitsu and a stand-up comedian. Two of his podcasts that I have watched recently and can recommend is one with Joe’s good friend and fellow comedian Bill Burr and the other one is with Matthew McConaughey, both really good. 🙂
Hey Colleen,
Thanks for reading along:) Your positive message was so uplifting for me to read. Thanks for the podcast recommendations! Have the best week. xTieghan
I look forward to each of your posts and your Nine Favorite Things never disappoints! Also, made your creamy salmon with artichokes and spinach this past Saturday evening and it was amazing! I served it to someone special in my life and it was memorable! (ha! also made your no knead sourdough bread – yum!!). Thank you for sharing your life’s passion.
Hey Talia,
I am so glad you have been enjoying the Sunday posts:) Thanks for giving the salmon a try! xTieghan
I ordered an inexpensive pair of blue light glasses for the entire family since we are all working from home on screens or in remote learning from high school. previous issues of headaches, trouble sleeping, eye fatigue have all disappeared. I wear bifocals so ordered blue light glasses to wear over my prescription frames. Do I look silly? Of course, but don’t care as the benefit outweighs the silly appearance;)
Hey Lisa,
So glad to know the blue light glasses really do make a difference, I definitely need to get myself a pair:) xTieghan
Oslo is so cute and I just love his name, it’s so adorable! I think that with social media people forget how to be kind and think rationally. They get sucked into these echo chambers of everyone piling on the hate and they forget how to think before they speak. Is this truly going to make anything better? Why are you commenting/emailing in the first place, did anything this person do actually hurt you or is that just what the hateful echo chambers say? Good on you for spreading love and kindness through food. Food is for everyone and is something we can all share and enjoy! Keep your head up!
Hey Erika,
Thanks so much for reading along today, Oslo really is the best:) Thanks for your positive message, I hope you have a great week! xTieghan
I love the pictures of Oslo, especially the one with the polar bears on front. He’s going to be a looker.
I like the lamps your looking at, but I was wondering if you ever go to 2nd hand stores. I have found some great items at those kind of stores at great prices. Just a thought😀😀😀
Hey Colleen,
Right?! He really is just the cutest!! Yes, such a great idea, some of my best finds are from vintage and second hand stores! xTieghan
Look forward to the Nine Favorite Things every week! Have also been loving the Banana Bread Mug Cake. Those small serving sweets help me have a treat but not a regret! Lol Very sorry you had someone send negative message. It can be hard to not let that one wipe out all of the amazing things you do. Don’t let it define you! You are a talented and industrious woman. Look at what you’ve created! Consider the tastebuds delighted!
Hey Jennie,
Thanks so much for reading along every Sunday and I am glad you have been enjoying the mug cake, it is so easy and so good! Thanks for your positive message:) I hope you have a great week! xTieghan
It makes me said to learn you get nasty emails from people or maybe even “hate emails “? I just love your cooking, photography, seeing pictures of your family, learning about your family and oh that Oslo!!! What a bunch of sweetness❤️ And Asher too, sooo stickin cute. Your family is obviously paramount in your life and that is so wonderful and a gift. People are just jealous and envious of you! Please don’t think another moment of it and don’t give them any energy! You are the better then that! I’m older and wiser , this I know is true😍. Love, Susan
Hey Susan,
I truly appreciate your thoughtful message, it really made my morning reading this, and was such a great reminder not to dwell on the negative. I love sharing Asher and Oslo and I am so glad you have been enjoying the photos as well. I hope you have a fantastic week! xTieghan
HUGE vouch for blue light glasses! I get mine from TIJN and they’re very effective and very cute. I used to get headaches all the time (which were somewhat improved by filtering the blue light directly on my laptop) and someone recommended that I try them and they make a world of a difference. There’s a lot of literature about them being bogus, but I personally find them really soothing! Worth a shot for sure.
Hey Maya,
Thank you so much for your blue recommendation! I absolutely need to get a pair:) Have a great week! xTieghan
Hi Tiegan,
I have been cooking exclusively from your cookbooks for the past month, and each night my family says, “This is the best dish ever!” Your easy to follow recipes inspire me so much and I constantly say- “ She’s incredible and she’s only 27! I want to be her sous-chef for a week!” I’ve sent your cookbooks to so many of my cooking friends and they feel the same way. Keep those amazing recipes coming!
Hey Maggie,
I truly appreciate you kind message, I am so glad your family has been enjoying the recipes. I so appreciate you giving them a try:) xTieghan
I think you would enjoy the podcast Tough Love with Toni. She’s a jazzercise instructor but so down-to-earth and motivating! 🙂
Thanks so much for the recommendation Cat! xTieghan
Oslo is soooooo adorable!!! I’m very happy for your family! Negative talk is really hard – it’s easy to say just let it go but very difficult to do. Just know that you’re doing a fantastic job and all that matters is what YOU think, not anyone else (even though there are thousands of more people who love your work than those who don’t). Keep it up 🙂
Hey Erin,
Thanks so much for reading along! We are so very blessed to have Oslo in our lives:) Thanks for your positive message! xTieghan
Dear Tieghan: Once you open an email and see it’s negative, stop reading and delete it. Do not listen to any of that bad energy. They are jealous of your success. They are lazy and will not work as hard as you do. You’re doing so well. Don’t listen to them!! And I love your blog posts but it’s tons of content which must be exhausting to curate. It’s okay to do less because your quality is so good!! I can imagine you’re up late at night crafting the weekly post. So much work but people will love it if it’s less. You’re amazing!!
Hey Janet,
Thank you so much for your incredibly thoughtful and kind message. This really made my day, reading your note:) I hope you have a great week! xTieghan
Please more restaurant remakes!! Around my house we love Chickfila, Chipotle, and Taco Bell the most I’d say 🙂 Alongside Starbucks too – Starbucks has lots of menu items that would be cool to remake!
Also I had to tell you – yesterday I made a simple cheese quesadilla as a late-night snack and decided to try and replicate a simple version of your “Doritos” seasoning from the Cheesy Gordita Tacos recipe… so the filling of my quesadilla was shredded cheddar, parmesan, chili powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, and some ranch. Ooohhhh my goodness did it taste INCREDIBLE! Might be fun to do a quesadilla recipe with that theme 🙂
Hey Kelly,
Thanks so much for reading along:) Love the restaurant inspo ideas! Thank you for trying the cheesy Gordita crunch, I am so glad it was enjoyed:) xTieghan
I’m so sad to see you’ve been sent upsetting emails. I reckon it must come from envy or jealousy. It doesn’t excuse it, but perhaps explains the though process behind such negativity. Onward and upwards!
Lovely pictures of little Oslo, that one with the polar bears top 😍😊
Have a great week. Xx
Thank you so much for your kind message Kelly-Jane! xTieghan
Buy yourself the desk lamp. You’ll never regret investing in a good piece, especially if it’s replacing a cheap little lamp you’ve kept since middle school! You’ll appreciate it forever.
Love to you! What the #@$$ is wrong with those haters? They must be very miserable people 🙁
Thank you so much Shannon, definitely think I should do the lamps! Happy Friday:) xTieghan
I highly recommend Felix Gray blue light glasses! I’ve been using them for over a year and a half now and they’ve really helped with eye twitching / tiredness.
Thanks so much Emi!! xTieghan
