20 Minute Chicken Cheesesteak Sloppy Joe Sliders
Today is the day.
The day I will finally make my oldest brother proud.
I made Sloppy Joes!
Yes, this is my very first Sloppy Joe. Not first that I have ever made, like first ever!
I know this is probably unfathomable to Sloppy Joe lovers.
Growing up my dad never made them, therefore I never had one, and if I am being honest the thought of a pile of ground beef on a bun does not actually sound all that appealing to me. I don’t know, something about a bun full of meat and nothing else? Just not my thing.
But then there is Creighton, my oldest, wisest (ahh…ok Kai is the wisest, sorry Creigh), happiest meat loving brother. Remember I talked a little about him yesterday?
He is a total guys, guy. Die hard football lover (Go Browns!), major carnivore (loves it), loyal to all his buds, goes to the gym, drinks those weird protein shakes, drives a pick-up, insanely protective of his sisters and totally lazy on his days off.
I love him to death, but we could not be more different.
And you know what’s funny?
Even though he lives 1500 miles and five large states away, he still begs me to make certain foods. Meatloaf, chili, chicken, korean beef, burgers, tacos and Sloppy Joes. Granted I have made most of them with no complaining at all, but I mean he is not even here. Why beg me to make them?
No idea. He does not cook and when he does he puts steak in a frying pan with water. WATER. Not oil, water. Who the heck cooks steak in water?
Anyway, this meal is totally a Creighton meal. Everyone said it. No they really did, the minute we sat down for dinner everyone goes, “oh this is a Creighton meal”. And it is, he would go crazy for it and with good reason.
It is good.
It’s like a healthier cheesesteak, but with chicken in the form of cute little Sloppy Joe sliders. The cheese sauce makes these though. It is crazy delicious and I am finding myself adding it to everything. I almost added it to a dish today, but had to stop myself. Not sure why, I am kind of regretting it now. Plus, oh my gosh I actually think Creigh can make these. So easy. So quick. Dinner in twenty. YES!

It's like a healthier cheesesteak, but with chicken in the form of cute little Sloppy Joe sliders. The cheese sauce makes these though.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground chicken or turkey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 sweet onion sliced thin
- 1 green pepper sliced thin
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms optional
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 16 whole wheat slider buns or 4 regular whole wheat buns toasted
Cheese Sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon flour
- 1/2 tablespoon butter
- 3/4 cup milk I used 2%
- 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1 1/2 cups shredded provolone cheese
- 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese grated
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
-
In large skillet over medium-high heat add the olive oil, brown the ground chicken, about 5-6 minutes. Add the onion, mushrooms and green pepper, cook another 5-10 minutes, until the onions start to get tender. Stir in the worcestershire, soy sauce and ketchup and season with salt and pepper, bring up to a bubble and cook about 2 minutes.
-
While the chicken is cooking, make the cheese sauce. Melt the butter in a small sauce pan over medium-high heat. Stir in the flour and cook about 1 minute. Whisk in milk and mustard powder, bring up to a bubble and let thicken, about 2 minutes. Turn off heat and stir in the provolone cheese, parmesan cheese and a pinch of salt and pepper, stir until the cheese has melted.
-
To serve, place a scoopful of the chicken + pepper mixture onto the bottom of the slider buns, then top with the cheese sauce and add the top of the bun.
Don’t you just want a big fat bite?!? Trust me, you do!
Girl, you is genius. Love these!
Thank you!
I love sloppy joes but I’ve never tried chicken ones. These look amazing and I love how they only take 20 mins to make! Pinning 🙂
Thanks so much for pinning, Nicky! Hope you love these!
You have once again managed to make my mouth water!
YES! Thanks so much, Kathy! So happy you read along everyday! 🙂
Now those look awesome!!
Thanks Uncle Al!
Definitely a great surprise to see on my Bloglovin’ roll today… genius! Yummy!
Thanks Ali! 🙂
Sounds like my kind of sloppy joe. Love that it’s only 20 minutes and dinner can be served. I look forward to trying these.
Thanks Melanie! Hope you love them!
I’ve never had a sloppy joe either, they’re not really a thing in England. Maybe I can make them a thing….I will of course give you all the credit for a fantastic recipe!
Make them a thing! HA!
Thanks Christina!
Growing up my favorite thing ever to eat was Sloppy Joe’s. I could gobble them up in no time and mostly only had them when they were offered at the school lunch. I since have learned how to make them that tasted just like the ones I grew up loving. However, I find I hold back because I don’t like to eat meat so often. This is perfect though using ground chicken. Thanks for sharing your recipe. I’ll be sure to try it.
Thanks Vicki! Hope you love this version!
I’m pretty certain I would not be able to resist these little sliders!! They look fantastically delicious!!
Thanks Dan!
This looks like a delicious sandwich. I love Sloppy Joes and have perfected my recipe. The only ingredients in your recipe that is also in mine is bell pepper and Worcestershire. Please don’t call this a Sloppy Joe. It’s a chicken slider with cheese sauce. You still have not had a Sloppy Joe. I admire your cooking ability. You do amazing things. I enjoy your blog.
Well, Tieghan this sloppy joe recipe is just AMAZING. It looks mouthwatering-ly delicious!!! Can’t wait to try them!
Thanks Robyn!
Ohhhh that melty cheese gets me every time! It’s been ages since I’ve had a cheesesteak and all this deliciousness put together is making my mouth do some serious watering!
Thanks Julia!
These would be the perfect sammie to have on the slopes!! Love the cheese!
Thanks Lauren!
What a great way of combining 2 American favorites!! Did you make the buns as well? The sauce sounds sooooo good!
Thanks Sophia! I did not make the buns, but they were good!
The use of chicken in this so creative! Beef is often so hard to get nice in Australia but chicken is plentiful! Loving the melting cheese and that sauce looks so juicy
Thanks Belinda!
I like my Sloppy Joes extra sloppy!! Can you prepare them for me with lots of meat/spice juice? BTW thanks for all the love on here the past few days!
Well, I mean you are the only one of my siblings that will actually eat anything I make. So I gotta give you some love!
I’m glad you’ve been converted to the sloppy joe!! I have made so many different versions – I can’t get enough. And now I need to add this one to the list!
Thanks Deborah!
Omg. These… I need!
I need yours that you posted today!
Reading that someone cooks a steak in water made me gasp!!
These sliders are a for sure winner in my household full of carnivores!! Yum!
Haha! I know! Thanks!!
Now THAT is a sloppy joe worth waiting for! I am just drooling over that melt-y cheese. Yum. Your brother sounds very similar to my older brother–I never did get what the big deal was with those gross protein shakes he would drink and all those hours he would spend at the gym 😉
Haha! I know, those drinks are nasty! LOL!
Thanks Sarah!
What did you say your address was again ; )
Ha! Frisco, Colorado! Come Vist!
Just made these for dinner and the fam, loved them!! Especially that gorgeous cheese sauce! Why did I never think of that?!!
Perfect little sliders, these look like such a crowd pleaser!
Thanks Laura!! They were a hit!
These look good – almost like a chicken version of Maid Rites – but they’re not Sloppy Joes. Sloppy Joes have a tomato-based sauce that coats all the meat, and we don’t put cheese on ours.
Definitely into the cheese sauce you made, though. Sounds good!
Thank you!
I’m a big Sloppy Joe fan, from child to now I just can’t’ get enough of them.. it’s hard for me to eat just one! Thanks for sharing this great recipe!
Thanks Pamela!
They look delicious, and if it’s this easy to make even perfect. Pinning.
Thanks Ash!
Welp, considering you’ve never ever had a sloppy joe before (mind boggling!!) I’d say you did a pretty amazing job at your first try! Looks so SO good!!!
Haha! Thank you so much, Nicole! 🙂
Hi! I saw these @ Tidy Mom’s Link Party- they look great! I’m a big Sloppy Joe fan, haven’t ever tried it with chicken might have to after seeing this though 🙂
Thanks Angel!! Hope you give these a try!
This look so yummy! We love Sloppy Joes at my house, so this will be a big hit I sure!
Thank you!
Tieghan,
As usual, you saved me from having to figure out what to make for dinner. Just finished making these sloppy joes and can’t wait to devour them! You are a genius and next up is the Roasted Harvest Veggie Bowls. I have made your chicken, rice bowls several times, the jerk salmon tostadas and my son’s friends now think I’m the best cook they’ve ever known. I never told you about that crazy desert I made of yours…another time.
Thanks again for sharing your love of food! xoxo
Thank you SO much, Denise!! I am so happy you are making my recipes and loving them too!! Seriously, that puts a giant smile on my face!! Thank you so much and I hope you guys loved these!
this is awesome! used curry powder instead of mustard and threw in a cup of fresh chopped parsley and basil into the cheese sauce yum! 🙂
That sound awesome! So happy you loved these, thanks Dan!
Hi Tiegan
I have tried several of your recipes and love them all! It is a rainy day today thought I would try this recipe! They were excellent!
Thanks!!
Shawn 🙂
Awe! Thank you! So happy you enjoyed this!! 🙂
This was delicious. Definitely adding to my quick favorite recipes for our busy nights! Thanks.
I hope you love this Rachel!
Delicious recipe! I very rarely comment on any recipe but this one definitely deserves 5 stars! I doubled the recipe to feed 5 adults and the pan was scrapped clean – it made plenty but it was so good that the guys finished it off. Dinner received rave reviews and they told me to keep the recipe and put it into our rotation (unlike a dessert recipe I had found on another site recently and they told me to scrap it. LOL). Anyway, we highly recommend this one!
Wow that is amazing! Thank you for trying this and leaving a comment! xTieghan
We made this tonight wtih ground turkey and it was SO GOOD! Thanks for the awesome recipes!!
Thank you Caitlin! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
