20 Minute Honey Garlic Butter Shrimp.
Sharing an easy weeknight dinner that feels extra special, 20 Minute Honey Garlic Butter Shrimp. Spicy, garlicky, gingery shrimp, pan-seared and tossed with butter, coconut milk, and sweet honey. It’s Thai inspired with a hint of Italian. Not traditional, but so DELICIOUS. Serve this simple one skillet dinner with a side rice and mango salsa. Added bonus? You only need one skillet and about 20 minutes’ time. Perfect for busy weeknights when you’re looking for something different, but still quick, healthy-ish, and of course…delicious!
I wanted to start the week off with something fun and a dish that felt a little different too. Life in quarantine has meant a lot of pantry style recipes. Which are amazing and, of course, what we all need most right now. But today, however, I just needed some fresh color.
Enter this shrimp. Yes, this is still what I consider to be a pantry style recipe. Frozen shrimp plus shelf-stable ingredients, but yet it’s light, colorful, fresh, and most importantly, so very good.
And you guys? That’s kind of all I got for my “intro” today. Honestly, there isn’t too much to report on these days, as I haven’t left home for over three weeks now. In fact, no one in our four-person family quarantine here in Colorado has gone anywhere other than the grocery store (and only twice) in over three weeks. And it’s actually been almost two weeks since our last trip. If you knew how much we normally grocery shop…once or even twice a day. You’d know that this is a long time to go without hitting up the store.
We’ll be doing a grocery restock here soon, but that’s pretty much all I have to report! My human interaction consists of zoom meetings and Instagram. It’s bare, but hey, we’re hanging in there. I feel so very thankful for you guys and this HBH community. It makes Isolation, not feel all that isolated.
Anyway, that’s it. Let’s talk shrimp.
The background.
This recipe was inspired more by my dad than anyone else. With just four of us here at home, I’ve been making more recipes based on their preferences and what they love most. He’s a huge fan of anything spicy and anything saucy. He says you can never have too much spice or too much sauce, which is probably why most of my recipes include a little bit of both.
I’ve made a few garlic butter shrimp recipes in the past, but this one is a new favorite. It’s heavily influenced by Thai flavors, but there’s also a touch of Italian with that garlic butter. It’s not traditional, but then most of my recipes aren’t traditional…so you know, what’s new? I love switching things up!
And yes, there is also a spicy, sweet mango salsa. You all know me. When I have the option to add a fruit salsa, I am adding it.
Here are the details.
As you might guess, this recipe is fast. It takes just about 20 minutes from start to finish. And it’s all made in one skillet using ingredients you hopefully have on hand right now.
It starts with pan-searing the shrimp in a little olive oil…then comes the flavor. Toss in plenty of garlic, a little ginger, and a couple of jalapeños. Then swirl in the (salted) butter. As the butter melts, the garlic caramelizes around the shrimp creating truly the most mouth-watering smell (and delicious sauce).
This is that moment you know the recipe is going to be good. Very. Good.
Once the butter has browned, stir in the coconut milk, a touch of sauce, and a bit of honey. The coconut creates a cream sauce, the soy adds a little salty flavor, and the honey balances out the spice.
Remove from the heat and finish with lime and cilantro.
Simple. Simple. But so delicious.
How do you serve this garlicky buttery shrimp?
Well, I love serving the shrimp over rice with a heavy side of that mango salsa, and some avocado too. Yes, these are fresh ingredients, so if you don’t have them on hand right now, don’t feel like you need them for this recipe. You can simply swap in the fresh ingredients you do have…any fruit would be delicious. My top picks would be mango or pineapple, but you can even just go with an avocado-based salsa.
Use what you have and make it work!
If you’re out of rice, rice noodles would be equally great. Or simply serve with crusty bread for scooping up all that buttery sauce. Delish.
Any way you serve this up it’s going to be beyond good. It’s all about that sauce. The sauce is everything.
Again, this shrimp is kind of like Italian meets Thai. A weird, but delicious mash-up that just works. It’s all things good and a nice change of pace if you’ve been eating nothing but pasta, chickpeas, and bread for the last month.
And the added bonus? This is so quick and easy to make! Yes, please! Great for a Monday, but also great for just about any other night of the week too. Hoping you all enjoy!

20 Minute Honey Garlic Butter Shrimp in Coconut Milk.
An easy weeknight dinner that feels extra special and uses just one skillet...serve with a side of rice and mango salsa!
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds raw jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined
- kosher salt and black pepper
- 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 6 cloves garlic, finely chopped or grated
- 1 inch fresh grated ginger, grated (or 1 teaspoon dried ginger)
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 2 jalapeños, seeded, if desired, and chopped
- 4 tablespoons salted butter
- 3/4 cup canned coconut milk
- 2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons honey
- zest and juice from 1 lime
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro or basil, chopped
Mango Salsa
- 1 mango or 2 cups pineapple chunks
- 1 jalapeño, seeded (if desired), and chopped
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- juice of 1 lime
- 1/2 cup cilantro, roughly chopped
Instructions
-
1. Pat the shrimp dry and season with salt and pepper.
2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. When the oil shimmers, add the shrimp and cook until pink, about 2 minutes per side. Add the garlic, ginger, cayenne, if using, jalapeños, and butter. Continue to cook the shrimp in the butter until the garlic begins to caramelize and turn light golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes.
3. Add the coconut milk, soy sauce, and the honey, stir to combine, bring the mixture to a simmer, cook 2-3 minutes, until warmed throughout. Remove from the heat and stir in the lime juice and zest, add the cilantro, or basil.
4. To make the salsa. Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Season with salt.
5. Serve the shrimp and sauce over rice. Top with salsa. Enjoy!

Looks great but I only have frozen COOKED shrimp. It won’t absorb all the yummy flavors as much but I’m assuming I can still use it. It’s all I’ve got ?♀️. Any advice on when to put the shrimp in the pan and how long to “cook” it?
Hi Kathi,
I would put it in add the end after the sauce is finished and just warm the shrimp through, so 1-2 minutes in the sauce. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
This looks amazing! Do you think Heaven cream would work instead of coconut cream? Or would it be too heavy or separate?
Hi Jennie,
Heavy cream is a good substitute! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I desperately want to make that but will wait until I talk to my doctor tomorrow; honey, butter and rice are off the menu but maybe if I skip the rice the honey and butter would be okay. I don’t use cilantro; they say that for some of the population it tastes like soap but it doesn’t taste like anything to me, I simply don’t taste it. I don’t have lime.
Hi Nan! I hope you are able to make this, but of course your health comes first!! I hope you are staying well! xTieghan
Ooooh! This looks fantastic. Will definitely have it on the to do list, but closer to the weekend. @Nan – you could substitute olive oil and cauliflower for rice and butter to make a lighter version. My mom has to modify her diet for glucose issues as well, and frequently has cauliflower instead of rice. 🙂
Thank you Aline! I hope you love this! xTieghan
oh my god… these look sooo good!! ahhh im drooling! love me some shrimp

Made this last night and my husband and little sister LOVED it!! Leftovers for lunch today, thanks so much for the recipe! Just got my copy of your first cookbook in too, so excited to start cooking through it! Just discovered your blog a few weeks ago on Pinterest and absolutely in love! Thank you for all your efforts as us amateurs are relying on home recipes more than ever right now! not all heroes wear capes :). P.S. for the other commenter, I used frozen shrimp too, just had my husband take it out and run some water over it and it was fine lol I’d probably add the shrimp last next time just to reduce its cook time since it doesn’t take long to overcook.
Hi Lorie! Welcome! I am so glad you are enjoying my blog and hope you love all of the recipes in the book! Thank you so much! Stay well! xTieghan
Don’t laugh, I am going to try this with tofu. We used up the shrimp and am trying to stay away from the store a bit longer. I think it will be fine! Thanks for brightening our inboxes, Tieghan,
Hi Lori! I hope you love this one!! Please let me know how it turns out for you! I hope you are staying well! xTieghan
Would it be weird to use maple syrup? I can’t use honey for our 7 month old but I’m not sure if the flavour would throw it off.
Hi Jordan! No, I am sure it will taste great! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Made this today for a quick lunch when we were short on fresh groceries but had frozen shrimp! Had to sub Worcestershire sauce for soy sauce and omit the basil/cilantro at the end (really low on groceries), but still turned out flavorful. Love these easy recipes.
Thank you so much Smita! I am so glad you loved these! xTieghan
This recipe is delicious and so easy to put together.
Thank you.
Thank you so much Christine! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I just made this tonight, amazing. I’ve made so many of your meals but this is the first I’ve commented. You are a household favorite! This was an amazing sauce and it went really well with sautéd broccoli as well. Spicy enough to know it’s there, but not too spicy where you’re chugging water. I will be making this again. Thanks for all your creative recipes. You are my go to blogger for food!
Aw wow that is so amazing to hear! Thank you so much Jena! I hope you continue to enjoy my recipes! xTieghan
Amazing flavors, plus it is quick and easy, even for this novice!! Highly recommend! 🙂
Thank you so much Lisa! xTieghan

Thank you so much Claudia! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Made this last night and it was so good!! Kids loved it too. I haven’t made a recipe of yours that hasn’t been amazing. In these crazy times I’m making them more than ever. Thank you.
Thank you Kate!! I am so glad you loved this! xTieghan
One of your best recipes! I added asparagus to the pan as I didn’t have mangoes for salsa. Yum!
Thank you so much Connie! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Holy moly this was fantastic!!! When i saw the IG story from this recipe, I HAD to make it! My fiancé and I agreed this was the best thing i have ever made! And I like to cook lots of new things! Can’t wait to eat the leftovers tomorrow ☺️ Thank you for a wonderful new recipe for us to enjoy! If you’re considering making this, just do it. If you like Thai food, you won’t be disappointed!
Thank you so much Jen! I am so glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Made this last night and it was AMAZING!! Thank you so much for sharing
Thank you! xTieghan
We made this last night for our makeshift, at home, date night after the kids were down. It was SO SO good, hit my thai food craving perfectly, was super easy and had nice fresh ingredients. The mango salsa was key and tied it all together. Thank you for sharing, we’ll definitely be making this again and I can’t wait. Thank you!!
Thank you so much Shannon! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This was one of our favorites! And we didn’t even have the ingredients for the mango salsa. Yummm
Thank you so much Meredith! I am so glad this one turned out so well for you! xTieghan
We made this for dinner tonight and it’s perfect!
Thank you so much Stephanie! xTieghan
Made this tonight and everyone LOVED it (even my husband who isn’t a coconut milk fan)! Came together quickly – just had all the ingredients measured out and in place before starting so the shrimp didn’t overcook. Served with brown rice and cut up avocado mixed with cilantro, lime and salt. Didn’t have any mango but was still delicious! Will definitely make again.
Thank you so much Susan! I am so glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This recipe looks amazing!?? I do however have a question, is it really spicy or just a hint of spiciness?! I love spicy food and if I can make it really spicy that would be great! Thank you!
Thank you so much Nancy! It is pretty spicy, but if you would like it hotter I would suggest keeping the seeds in the jalapeño or adding a bit more cayenne! I hope you love this one! xTieghan
Can I use frozen cooked shrimp?
Hi Karen,
Yes, I would thaw these first and then add them to the sauce at the end for about 1-2 minutes just to warm them through, you do not want to overcook them. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
This was a big hit! And so easy! served it over brown rice. YUMM! Thank you!
Thank you so much Jessica! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Hi Tieghan! It’s your your kindergarten teacher from way back when! First of all I am so proud of you! I love reading your posts and I always pin your recipes and decided today I would make this! This was fabulous and so easy to make! The jalapeño and cayenne added just a little kick to it and was not overpowering. It was also a big hit with the family! My husband said the next time we will do linguine and add more avocado to the salsa. I bet this would be great with chicken too! We definitely will make it again! Hope you are doing well! I plan to try more of your recipes! I love anything that is quick and easy! Take care and hope your family is well! Janine Walsh aka Miss DeFranco
Hi!!! How are you?! I am so honored you like my blog and are enjoying my recipes! I hope you continue to ? . I also hope you are doing well during this time! xTieghan
I never write reviews. But I saw this recipe on Instagram right when I was looking for a shrimp coconut milk curry recipe, and it could not have been more perfect! I used frozen cooked shrimp, no honey (I used agave syrup), no lime (still delicious without, but I bought some for next time!), And I added snap peas and bok choy to the pan at the end to steam. I served it over brown rice. Let me tell you, this dish was everything I wanted and more!! Sweet, spicy, so flavorful!! My boyfriend and I were licking our plates. I want to make the same sauce with other proteins too, I think it would go great with chicken, fish, and tofu!
I will definitely be making this again and again, because this recipe is SO tasty and so quick!!
Oh wow that is so amazing to hear! I am so glad you both loved this recipe, Tatiana! I hope you continue to! xTieghan
This was sooooooo good!! Even my kids loved this dinner! Over rice with arugula, peas and avocado… delish!
Thank you Sophie! xTieghan
This was incredible! So flavorful and filling. I made noodles instead of rice, cut up some bell pepper super thin and added some fresh arugula. I mixed it all together and had a super yummy noodle bowl. I would definitely make again.
Thank you so much! xTieghan
So my mom bought evaporated coconut milk instead of regular coconut milk. How will that impact the recipe? Can i still use it or should I wait until I have what the recipe calls for?
Thanks!
Hi Tara,
I haven’t used evaporated coconut milk in this recipe but I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to give it a try! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Hubby and I raved to one another about these fab flavors while trying to not simply inhale our meal. So so good…and easy!
Thank you Janell!! So glad you both loved this one! I hope you are both doing well! xTieghan
Great recipe! Very easy to make the flavors were wonderful. Will definitely make again. Thank you!
Thank you so much Sara! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This recipe was amazing and so easy to make. I consider myself a home cook and I love your recipes and try one every week. This one is at the top of the list. Delicious!!
Thank you so much Krystal! I am really glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Wow. That was fantastic! Kind of like a Caribbean curry. I added thinly sliced zucchini and green pepper to up the veg count. It was soooo good!!
Thank you so much Sarah! xTieghan
This was so good!!! I had to use sriracha instead of the cayenne and didn’t have any ginger, but it still turned out delicious. Can’t wait until I can get all the ingredients and have it how it’s supposed to be. Thanks for all the pantry recipes while we’re all stuck at home❤️ All the best to you and your loved ones!
Hi Jules! I am so glad this one turned out so well for you! I hope you continue to love all of the recipes you try! xTieghan
Loved this! Used pineapple because my husband doesn’t like mango.
Thank you Laura! xTieghan
You know what’s bad about this recipe? It’s SO GOOD, there are NO LEFTOVERS!!! We’re bunkered in (thank you, Covid19!) and have been cooking quite a few of your recipes. ALL of your recipes with Coconut Milk are always a huge hit (my wife isn’t a fan of curry or heavy spice/heat – kids are, so this is always a good compromise!)
We had a big 2lb bag of frozen shrimp, along with cans of coconut cream in the pantry – so this worked. Also found a can of pineapple, so we went with the pineapple rather than mango salsa.
It was SO YUMMY.
2 notes; 1: What’s the difference between Coconut CREAM and Coconut MILK? Trader joe’s sells both.
2: Rather than just wasting the juice from the can of pineapple, I made a pineapple margarita! Used the leftover lime, too. Made cooking SO MUCH MORE FUN!!
Haha I am so glad this recipe turned out so well for you David! Thank you so much for trying it! Also, coconut creme is thicker than milk and I love that you made a pineapple margarita! YES!! xTieghan
We tried his tonight and even though we had to use smaller, thawed from frozen shrimp and the wrong rice, as they were all we had, this was delicious! I was a little nervous about the heat so we pared back a little on the jalapeños and only added a touch of cayenne. The mango salsa was also great and could easily be served with other things. I also think the salsa would be good with a little red onion, though maybe not with the shrimp. Will definitely make again!
Thank you so much Stephanie! I am really glad this recipe turned out so well for you! I hope you are staying well! xTieghan
This…….was…..delicious!! I hate it when people review a recipe with a huge list of changes but I’m going to sort of do that. I cooked the shrimp first – to about 2/3rds done and then removed them from the pan. Then I cooked the ginger, jalapenos and a small shallot – only because I had one shallot and it needed to be used up – and when I added the garlic, I put the shrimp back into the pan. I then added the sauce and let it heat through and removed the pan from the heat and added the lime zest, lime juice and cilantro. Absolutely delicious! I’m 66 years old and I wish I could have been as good a cook as you are, when I was 27 years old.. I use your recipes all the time and they are always fabulous! Keep them coming Tieghan!
Hi Jillian! No worries, I am glad this was so adaptable for you! Thank you so much for trying this! I hope you are staying well! xTieghan
THIS IS THE BEST SAUCE EVER. PERIOD. We literally used bread (crusty baguette) to soak up every last drop in the pan. I followed the recipe exactly, except I cooked the shrimp 2 minutes less, so instead of letting them cook longer before adding the ingredients i added the ingredients after like 30 seconds because I felt I might over cook the shrimp if I did two min per side.
Thank you so much!! I am so glad this recipe turned out so well for you! I hope you continue to love others of mine! xTieghan
I made this the other day and it was quite good! For my taste, the shrimp was a bit too sweet so I’ll add less honey next time. We also took the shrimp out when they seemed done and cooked the sauce down more, as it was a bit thin and we didn’t want to over cook the shrimp 🙂
Hi Sara! I am really glad this recipe turned out so well for you! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
Hi Tieghan,
Do you have any recipes for the leftover coconut milk? Most recipes use a whole can of coconut milk but I don’t want to waste the rest of the can once I open it!
Hi Lauren! I do have some recipes! I will link below! xTieghan
https://dev.halfbakedharvest.com/creamy-coconut-lime-mojito/#bo-recipe
10/10 will totally make this again. We loved it. The sauce was just insane!
Thank you so much Allie! xTieghan
The perfect prawn recipe! All my favourite flavours in there and everyone wanted to know where I’d got the recipe from when I posted it on Instagram 🙂
That is so amazing!! I am really glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I made this recipe last night and the whole family loved it! The combination of flavors and fresh herbs is wonderful. No leftovers here and my two teenagers have asked to prepare this dish again soon. I doubled the mango salsa recipe but kept everything else the same. I served it with rice. I want to mention that I love the portion size – it was just right for a family of four.
Aw that is so great! I am really glad this recipe turned out so well for you! xTieghan
The 20 minute Honey garlic Butter Shrimp was delicious!
Fed my family of 7 and the mango salsa was the perfect addition to this meal! Thank you!
Thank you so much Kimberly! xTieghan
My friend told me about this recipe and said the best shrimp dish she has ever made! I want to make it but I am the only one in our family of 4 who likes shrimp. I assume chicken would also work?
Hi Stephanie! Yes, that should be fine! I hope you love this recipe! xTieghan
I just made this and it is delicious!!! My husband and I loved it and will definitely make it again!
Thank you Lauren!! I am so glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Superb flavors – really knocked it out of the park for us! This is the first recipe I’ve tried from your site. Will be trying another later this week and this one for sure again soon. Husband asked me to add it to our usual list of recipes/rotation. Thanks!
Thank you!! That is so great to hear Cherie! xTieghan
Absolutely loved it! Made exactly as listed, but used only 1 jalapeño. Served over rice. Easy and so delicious.
Amazing! Thank you so much Kristina! xTieghan
Really enjoyed this! Shrimp has been on sale the last few weeks and I was getting tired of shrimp linguini! This recipe was simple and super yummy
Thank you so much Cass! I am glad you tried this! xTieghan
I made this tonight and it was amazing! The flavors were bright and fresh and it was a breeze to cook! Thanks for the great recipe!
Thank you for trying this Renee! Thank you so much! xTieghan
I loved this recipe! I raved about it and two of my friends loved it as well. I found it really easy to make, and it almost reminded me of creole comfort food. Jalapenos definitely make it spicy so I would skip those if you can’t handle the extra kick.
Thank you so much Shea! I am really glad you enjoyed this recipe! xTieghan
This was absolutely delicious. The quarantine is getting to us all and I happened to have some yummy frozen shrimp, we made this and it was a big hit with the family. Thank you!
Thank you Katya! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I loved this dish so much, and the sauce is so incredible. It goes so, so well with the shrimp and my family and I loved it. Thank you so much Tieghan for creating such wonderful dishes such as this one! How exactly do you serve this dish, Tieghan?
Hi Susan! I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe so much! I put some of the rice on each of the plates and then spoon the sauce and shrimp over it and lastly, salsa! Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with! xTieghan
I have made this twice. Once for my bf and I and then again when we had friends over for dinner. The second time I added steamed broccoli, cauliflower and snow peas to make it a whole meal with rice. Definitely will get a permanent spot in the menu rotation!
That is so great! Thank you Dani! xTieghan
I did this today!!! they are delicious!! on top a fetuccini were prefect. 1 jalapeño is more than enough! (and I’m Mexican).. loved it, will do it again. the leftovers will be used as shrimp tacos!
That is so amazing to hear! Thank you for trying this one! xTieghan
Just made this tonight and it was so good! Definitely fast enough to whip up after a long workday (whenever I start going back to the office!). I had to make some adjustments based on what I had on hand: frozen salmon filets defrosted the night before instead of shrimp, no ginger, jalapeño or mango salsa, but I added canned pineapple chunks. I loved the basil with this! This was so good, my husband just moved some frozen fish to the refrigerator and asked me to make it again tomorrow LOL! Thank you for the recipe!!
Wow YES! So glad you both loved this one, Sandra! I hope you continue to enjoy other recipes of mine as well! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Super tasty and easy to make, my sauce seems a little thin, any tips to thicken it up? I don’t think I’m using the right amount of coconut milk for 1 person. What is the amount in ml?
Hi! The recipe calls for 177mL of coconut milk. Is that what you used? Please let me know! xTieghan
Oh my goodness, this is one my very favorite recipes. It’s soooo yummy, flavorful but not heavy. I’ve made it with both shrimp and chicken, both were amazing!
Thank you so much Kati! xTieghan
All your recipes are so good, and this one was no different! Any advice for if I wanted to make the sauce thicker?
Hi Danny,
Thanks so much! You could remove the shrimp and add some cornstarch to the sauce to thicken it up a bit and then add the shrimp back in, you just don’t want to overcook the shrimp. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I made this tonight for supper and both myself and my wife really enjoyed it. Thank you so much.
Aw that is so great! Thank you Parry! xTieghan
This was delicious as always and was a huge hit for Mother’s Day. The sauce tastes amazing with the shrimp and rice and the mango salsa brought a note of freshness to the meal. Definitely making this again!
Thank you so much Joyce! I am really happy to hear that! xTieghan
Hi there! I just went to make this recipe and realized I only have a can of organic coconut cream, not coconut milk…would this be an ok substitute? PS…not one of your recipes has let myself or my family down, they are all amazing!
Hi Erika,
Yes the coconut cream should be okay in this recipe! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
This was absolutely delicious! Wonderful combination of flavors. Definitely in my top 3 shrimp recipes, thanks!
Thank you so much Emma! That is so amazing to hear! xTieghan
Made this recipe 2 days ago and my kids and husband loved it!! I just used half the honey and added a little bit of paprika also as we like it spicy. Also, used only one jalapeño because of paprika. It smelled and tasted delicious!!! I used the leftover sauce next day to make penne with peas and broccoli and finished with garnishing with parsley. Kids loved the pasta. It tasted like Cheesecake Factory’s Spicy Chipotle Pasta. So, that’s a win again 🙂
Yes!! I am so glad this turned out so well for you!! Thank you so much! xTieghan
I made this the other night for my grandmother and fiancé and I’m not kidding- we could hardly get through a conversation while eating without one of us stopping and saying how amazing it was!! I could drink the sauce 😂 it was so easy and fun to make and I already can’t wait to make it again. Thanks so much for this recipe!
Wow!! I am so glad you all loved this one, Megan! Thank you so much for trying! xTieghan
Made this with chicken instead of shrimp because my bf doesn’t like seafood. It came out great! I’m going to have to try with shrimp when he’s not around.
Great! Thank you Helen! xTieghan
I have made this twice in 3 weeks. My family loves it. Topped with pineapple salsa… so good! Quick and easy!
Thank you so much Tara! xTieghan
I didn’t have shrimp so I made it with tilapia and it was so good!!! I’ve made 3 of your recipes in the last 2 days and everything has been yummy. Thank you!
Love that!! I hope you continue to love my recipes, Amy! xTieghan
This has been on the list for a while and finally made it last night. SO SO SO delicious- so many flavors and love that buttery coconut milk sauce. It was so addicting we were eating the sauce out of the pan once all the shrimp was gone. Going to be adding this to the weekly rotation!
Love that!! Thank you so much for trying this Victoria!! xTieghan
This was FANTASTIC!
The only thing I did differently was use both pineapple and mango for the salsa.
I think it would also be great with chicken and tofu.
I will be making this again and again.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again: thank you! your recipes are always delicious and make me look like a pro!
I am really glad you enjoyed this one! Thank you so much Maclean! xTieghan
I made this for dinner today and all 5 of us decided that it was most definitely a make-again meal. That is high praise when the whole family is in a agreement!
Love that! Thank you Sarah! xTieghan
This was one of the best recipes I’ve made in a long time! I used frozen (Argentinian) shrimp from Trader Joe’s and served it over jasmine rice. We have four kids and it’s rare that’s we are obsessed over the same meal! Jackpot! Wondering if you have any recommendations on what else I can serve with this, since shrimp don’t tend to be very filling. Any ideas? Thanks so much!!
Hi Jen,
Thanks so much for trying the recipe, I am so glad your family enjoyed it! I would recommend doing some roasted veggies on the side! xTieghan

Found this recipe over a month ago, and it’s become a weekly staple for my home. Typically every Sunday night, so we end our week on a perfect night, we’ve cooked it so many times we now just freestyle it. Love it and makes me excited to try the other shrimp dishes 🥰
Wow that is so amazing to hear! I am so glad you have been loving this one, Heather! Thank you so much! xTieghan
This was SO amazing!! I made it tonight for dinner and my bf loved it. Thanks for making me look good!
Thank you Emma!! xTieghan
Excellent recipe! I added avocado to the mango salsa since I had one on hand. Left overs were delicious too!
Thank you so much Jaclyn! xTieghan
This is honestly one of the best things I have ever cooked, and I have been cooking my entire life. It’s actually one of the best things I’ve ever even eaten.
Wow that is so amazing to hear! Thank you Lara! xTieghan
This is one of my favorite dishes I’ve made in a long time. Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much Emma! xTieghan
SO. GOOD. this has been fueling us through quarantine. We make it at least once a week. One of my favorites of yours!!
Love to hear that! Thank you so much Samantha! xTieghan
I feel like I’m late to the party but I just made this for dinner and it turned out soooo good! I am still licking my lips after eating it! It felt so indulgent but was so healthy. Thank you so much, I can’t wait to make it again!
Never late haha! I am really glad this turned out so well for you, Kelly! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
I miss being able to eat shrimp so much! I get horrible heartburn if I eat shrimp now 🙁 unless it’s frozen/heavily processed in which case what’s the point really.
I still my make this for my other half though and stare longingly at it…although if anyone has any tips on eating food that gives you heartburn please let me know as I really want to try this recipe!
Aw that is such a bummer! I hope your other half loves this, Pauline! Thank you! xTieghan
Made this last night and it was a huge hit! Added some black sesame seeds for a little crunch (but tbh mostly for aesthetic purposes). This took me a lot longer than 20 minutes, but I would definitely still make it again.
Thank you so much Kat!! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
We made this tonight and it was delicious. I only used one jalapeno because my son was eating it and he likes some heat but not too much. The flavor with one was delicious, but the heat was low enough that next time I will do both jalapenos. Very easy recipe and everyone loved it. We served over the rice but skipped the salsa this time. Can’t wait to add it next time.
Thank you so much Marteigh! I am glad this turned out well for you! xTieghan
Another great one! Served this over cauliflower rice. Will make this one again for sure.
Thank you so much Laura! I am so happy to hear that! xTieghan
Made this last night and vowed to make it once a month! Finger licking good! That saaaauce! I served mine with pasta and added some more garlic 😋.
Thank you so much! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
I made this tonight and it turned out perfectly. We loved the sauce. Thank you!
Thank you so much Maris! xTieghan
This dish is a flavor sensation! There was not one ingredient that overpowered another; it was just a beautiful combination of flavors that came together in the most spectacular way! The shrimp with the sauce and rice are fantastic, but when you add the salsa it takes it over the top! Loved everything about this recipe!! Thank you!!
Yes!! I am so glad this turned out so amazing for you, Christine! Thank you for trying it! xTieghan
Delicious! I served over cauliflower rice.
You put together the most amazing flavors, thank you!
Thank you Margaret!! xTieghan
So I’m having a dinner party Saturday night first one in several months. I’ve made a few of your dishes I’ve loved everyone I’m going to make this for the first time any tips?
Hi Tammy,
I would just follow the recipe as is and you should be good to go! Hope its a hit! xTieghan
A HUGE HIT! So yummy and this will be added to my rotation of dishes! We have 5 kids, so are usually happy with 75% approval rating — this was 100%. I added some red pepper to round it out a bit (added to the hot pan and took it out before cooking the shrimp). One thing — your photo seems to show the raw shrimp marinating in the garlic/jalapenos, but the instructions say these things are added later, and at different times (a little pet peeve when instructions and photos don’t align).
Wow that is so amazing to hear! I am so glad this turned out so well for you, Sarah! Thank you! xTieghan
I don’t have regular honey (only creamy cinnamon one) – can I use maple syrup or agave instead?
Hey Gosia,
Yes either of those would work well! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Made this a couple of nights ago! Loved the mango salsa but I will use less cilantro next time. Husband ate his with pico de gallo. It was even better as leftovers. Flavors seemed to layer more. At his request, making soon for my dad
That is so amazing! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
This was one of the best meals I’ve made. Truly delicious. The flavors are perfectly balanced. And that salsa—it really added to the dish and brought a complexity to it that was fantastic! I used mango and pineapple together in the salsa and it was yummy. And I didn’t have cilantro, so I used basil for the shrimp and for the salsa—totally fine! We really really loved this!!
Thank you so much Doris!! I am so happy to hear that! xTieghan
My husband and I LOVE this recipe. It’s in our rotation. Shout-out to this blog and a fellow CO girl…my friends and I are seriously obsessed w your recipes. I have a friend coming over who doesn’t like shrimp. Think I could sub chicken in this recipe, just once? 😉
Aw that is so amazing to hear, Christine!! I hope you all continue to love my blog! Also, yes go for it! Let me know if you have any questions! xTieghan
This was amazing! Everyone in the family loved it. It took me longer than 10 minutes to prep everything but very quick to make once everything was prepared. One of my sons is looking forward to eating just the rice with the sauce as leftovers tomorrow. 🙂 He wasn’t sure about the combo of the shrimp dish plus the mango salsa as a topper but the combo was truly incredible and complimentary. I made enough for 8 servings which meant I used lots of shrimp. Have you ever prepared this sauce for chicken, beef or pork? I’m considering trying it so I can make this dish more often at a more affordable cost. Thanks for the recipe!
Hey Felice,
I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe! I haven’t tried this with chicken, but I would use about a pound of meat. Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Every week, my husband and I go to my in-laws for dinner, which has been dubbed “Seafood Sunday.” This recipe has been a GO-TO! We’ve made it may times and usually eat over rice or sauteed spinach. Keep ’em coming!
–
Wow love that!! I am so glad this has been turning out so well for you all! Thank you Erin! xTieghan
This has to be my favorite recipe of yours to date (and I’ve had a lot!). This sauce is so amazing, we tried it on mussels and scallops after we had it with the shrimp. We loved it with the mussels because it was great for dipping the bread in. You really taste every flavor here, it’s sweet, garlicky, a little hint of spice. It’s just amazing!!! Obsessed
Thank you so much Hannah! xTieghan
Really good! Doubled the recipe and my family loved it! I added more lime than it called for and it balanced out the buttery taste
Love to hear that! Thank you Emily! xTieghan
Dish is delicious !
Thank you so much Nancy! xTieghan
So fast and delicious! My kids who don’t care for coconut milk even enjoyed it. My very picky girl rated it a 7/10 which is high for her!
I am so happy to hear that, Avon! Thank you so much for trying this one! xTieghan
I made enough for left overs …. well that is not going to happen !!! OMG was this Delicious !! Sadly I am allergic to cilantro so used the end of my summer basil.. The flavors were amazing and the lime is certainly the co-star in this dish. What a great surprise !!
You never cease to amaze !!!
By the way … how do I get back to the link you sent yesterday for your Etsy venture. I wanted to pass it along today to friends and family and could not find my way back to it
Hi Judi! I am so happy this turned out so well for you! Thank you for trying it! Also, I am so happy you like the Etsy line! I will leave the link below! xTieghan

This was delicious and I will make again. Both my wife and I said we will probably something like pine nuts for a little texture next time. Keep on rocking the recipes Tieghan.
Thank you so much Mark! I hope you both continue to enjoy my recipes!! xTieghan
Wow! I rarely go back to recipes and leave comments but this was beyond amazing! I can’t believe there are still novel recipes out there that are fast, new to my family and this good! I dialed it back and did only a pound of shrimp because the people in my orbit calmed that they “weren’t very hungry.” But that changed the minute we tasted this… next time I’ll double the recipe, no question. I served this over brown rice for most and my Keto husband ate it over steamed cabbage. He took a little hit on the honey but it was so protein heavy and YUMMY that he said it was totally worth a little honey. I liked this sauce so much that I’m going to try this recipe with boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breast chunks next. Thank you!
Hi Adirenne! I am really glad this recipe turned out so well for you! Thank you for trying it!! xTieghan
I tried making this recipe for my kids as they really love eating prawn a lot and they liked it so much that they requested me to make it again for the next weekend and all this credit goes to you thank you so much for sharing this recipe.
Thank you for trying this one! I am really glad this turned out so well for you! xTieghan
Would this be good over ramen noodles or would it be weird?
Hey Sarah,
Sure you could serve this over ramen! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions. Happy Holidays! xTieghan
This was simple and really flavorful. Great even without the Cilantro. It was perfect over rice and had just the right amount of heat. Thank you.
Thank you for trying this one Gabe!! xTieghan
Oh boy, this was scrumptious. We decided we’re going to make it again but larger batch and toss it with pasta because we couldn’t get enough of the delicious sauce. A new fan favorite at home! We did throw the jalapeño in a mini food processor with more coconut milk to make sure it was nice and finely chopped as the sauce is thin, would recommend that ☺️
Hey Charlotte,
Thank you so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled you enjoyed the recipe! Happy New Year! xTieghan
I made this for my family tonight so I doubled the recipe and it was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!! I made the salsa with canned pineapple because that’s what I had on hand and it still tasted delicious. Although it was optional, definitely recommend serving with avocado, added a creamy element! The sauce was the star of the dish, I’m gonna go eat some more after this 🙂 This was the first recipe I’ve tried from HBH and needless to say, this will not be my last!! I can’t wait to try more recipes!!
Hey Zainab,
Thank you so very much for giving the recipe a try, I am so glad it worked out for you! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Hi Tiegen…..my niece, sister and I have tried so many of your recipes, excellent….this garlic butter shrimp was so good and fresh….we live in Rhode Island but ethnically from India and we cook a lot. Your recipes are well thought out, correctly spiced, quick well put together combination of fresh ingredients. I return to India in 2 weeks as I live there and will try your recipes there too.
Hey Sudha,
I am so thrilled that you enjoyed the recipe, thanks so much for giving it a try! Happy New Year! xTieghan
Simply outstanding! We used 1 1/2 pounds of jumbo, wild caught shrimp and it was more than enough for two. The jumbo size of the shrimp ensured that they’d stay meaty and not get overcook — we did roughly 1 minute and 45 seconds per side. We also didn’t make the salsa and ate it over rice. My husband born and raised in the Philippines and loves shrimp dishes. He isn’t a picky eater per se but he will not comment on or compliment a dish unless he truly loves it — this one blew him away, a true rarity and a testament to how delicious this dish is! We’ll be making this again soon without a doubt.
Hey Jay,
Thanks so much for making the recipe, I am so glad it was enjoyed! Have a great week! xTieghan
Simple, scrumptious and just the right spice level. I needed a veggie so added some steamed wax and green beans. Served over rice noodles to make GF. Thanks for your inspiration.
Hey Shelley,
Thank you so much for making the recipe, I am thrilled it was enjoyed! Have a great weekend:) xTieghan
This was amazing- quick, easy, and fresh and flavorful. We served with the mango salsa over rice. Will definitely be making again!
Hey Ashley,
I am delighted that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a lot for trying it out! Happy Friday! xTieghan
So easy and incredibly delicious, the sauce is heavenly!!
Thanks so much Julie! xTieghan
10/10 Tieghan strikes again! This tastes like a restaraunt quality meal with an essence of Thailand! My husband says it’s his favorite new meal I’ve made him during quarantine, his other favorite is HBH Thai Basil Beef. I’m so happy with how it turned out and will be adding this to my recipe collection. Thanks so much for sharing!
Hey Tiara,
I am thrilled this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a lot for making it! Happy Sunday! xTieghan
We loved this! Great flavors and pretty simple to make. I couldn’t find the rice ( I know.) in my pantry so I used some millet and brown rice ramen. My husband wants me to put this in the dinner rotation. He wanted me to take a picture of him licking his plate. I decline. I’m wondering if I could use frozen mango for the salsa instead of fresh. Thanks for another great recipe.
Hey Marcia,
Thanks a bunch for making this recipe, I am so glad it was enjoyed! xTieghan
Such a delicious recipe!!
Thanks so much Amy!!
Hello!
I’m not a huge fan of coconut. In dishes like this I know that there really isn’t a great substitute, but would cream work? Thanks
Hey Brooks,
Yes, cream would be just fine to use. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
I MADE THIS!!!!!! This is sooooooo sooooo good. If you are thinking “maybe” and your not really sure- do it. You will not regret it. The sauce is finger licking good!
Hey there,
Awesome! So glad this recipe was enjoyed, thanks for making it! xTieghan
This recipe is great! I made the sauce and put it on salmon instead of shrimp because that is what I had and it turned out great!
Hey Kelli,
I am delighted that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks so much for making it!! xTieghan
I’m making this for my family and my son is under 1, so he can’t have honey. What sweetener would you recommend instead? Thanks!
Hey Ashley,
I would use maple syrup. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know how it turns out! xTieghan
A new favorite in our rotation!
Hey Sarah,
Thanks a bunch for giving this recipe a try, I am so excited that it was enjoyed! Happy Friday! xTieghan
This meal was AMAZING but time consuming. It took 15 minutes to peel the shrimp and another 15 to prep everything but worth every minute of it. Wondering what else could I serve as a side.
Hey Kelly,
Happy Weekend! Thanks for giving the recipe a try, I am so glad it was enjoyed! xTieghan
I love this site! Cannot wait to prepare this yumminess!!

Hey Mary Jane,
I am delighted that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks so much for giving it a try! Happy Easter 🌷Tieghan
Hmm, mine came out looking like shrimp in soup… Do you sear the shrimp up ? And there appears to be a glaze like on the shrimp on the photo.
Hey Damien,
Was there anything you may have adjusted in the recipe? Maybe reduce your coconut milk next time? Let me know how I can help! xTieghan
This was great, quick & easy – plus all but cilantro fall into my pantry staples! Frozen mango & frozen, crushed ginger from Trader Joe’s really saved the day. Thank you, Tieghan <3
Hey Olivia,
Awesome! I am thrilled that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks for making it! Happy Friday:) xTieghan
Absolutely delicious! Flavours were great – just enough spice and the shrimp were tender. Will definitely be making this again. I served it with rice and nann bread. I didn’t make the salsa but may try it the next time.
Hey Sharron,
Awesome! I am thrilled that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks for making it! Happy Friday:) xTieghan

Made this last night since we had all ingredients on hand. It was fantastic. My daughter said it was better than something we’d order at any restaurant. Husband and I added a little extra cayenne on top and served over cauliflower rice. We’ll for sure make this again!
Hey Heather,
Fantastic!! I am thrilled that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks so much for making it! Happy Friday:) xTieghan
