Double Trouble Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter Honey Cookies.
Because when is double trouble ever not awesome?
Especially when chocolate and peanut butter are involved, you know?
Please, just tell me you understand. If you don’t, I may go on and on about chocolate and peanut butter and why the two together are shear perfection…
Since it’s Friday though, let’s just assume that everyone agrees: peanut butter + chocolate chunks = a cookie combo that never disappoints.
I made these cookies on a complete whim, simply because I was really just in the cookie baking mood. I had other things planned, but cookies pretty much took over my mind once the thought popped into my head. Cookies have a way of doing that .
I also really wanted to bake some cookie for back to school. Nothing is better than coming home from the first day of school to a batch of freshly baked cookies, and of course a glass of ice-cold milk. I mean, of course.
I may not be a school girl anymore, but I can still celebrate little Asher’s first day. Plus, it’s an excuse to make cookies, not that we need one around here.
Back when I was younger and my mom did all the baking in the house, cookies could appear at pretty much any given time. But the first day of school was a sure guarantee that there would be a fresh batch of her famous chocolate chip cookies when everyone returned home. Anyone who tastes her cookies knows they are the best.
No joke, the best. Even though I can make tons of desserts now, mom’s cookies are still my all time favorite. It’s the mother touch that does it for me.
But mom always just made chocolate chip cookies. She never ventured into the worlds of peanut butter, nutella, brown butter or funfetti, not even chocolate chunk. She is an awesome baker, but when it comes to cookies she sticks to what she knows. Me on the other hand? Well, I guess I am a little more daring than she is in the kitchen (which is weird since under any other circumstances she is the daring one).
Not that peanut butter cookies studded with chocolate chunks and Reese’s Pieces are anything bold or daring, but at least there is a little variation. Most importantly though?
They taste incredible. especially warm and right out of the oven when the chocolate is still melty. Oh my gosh, is there anything better? I think not.
The best part is that these cookies are sooo simple. Just ten minutes to prep and ten minutes to bake. No chilling time, minimal dishes (two bowls at most!) – nothing complicated.
Just the way a cookie recipe should be if you ask me.
And did I mention the chocolate chunks AND Reese’s Pieces?? Those two together are trouble makers – meaning those two together are the best! Yep, Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter Honey Cookies, an easy way to kick off a deliciously gooey weekend!

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup salted butter softened, 2 sticks
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 whole egg + 1 egg yolk
- 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 4-6 ounces milk chocolate chopped into chunks
- 1 cup Reese's Pieces or more
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
-
Combine the flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. Beat the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy, about 3 to 5 minutes. Add the egg + egg yolk and beat well. Beat in the peanut butter and honey.
-
Gradually beat in the flour mixture. Stir in the chocolate chunks and Reese's Pieces.
-
Roll the dough into scant tablespoon size balls. Stack two balls together and place them two inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
-
Bake for 10-12 minutes, but no longer. Over baking them is never good! Allow to cool three minutes then eat warm or move to a cooling rack to cool completely.
Really, just look at that chocolate. I can’t even take it. Is it cookie time yet?
Great recipe – sometimes you just need some quick cookies!
Yup, cookies that can be ready in no time are a must! 🙂
Thanks!
Holy moly, these look so, so good. This recipe is about to do serious damage to my pre-wedding diet. There is nothing better than a chocolate + peanut butter cookie!
Haha! Diets are no fun anyway! You need a little fun in there though, so these can be the fun!
Thanks Chelsea!
Looks de-lish!!
Thanks!
Reese’s pieces are my weakness…ate some last night…so this recipe is happening tomorrow at our house…these look perfect for a first day of school…
Thanks Lisa! Hope you loved them!
I got all the ingredients in my pantry. Yeheey! I am so making this. Thank you.
ya! Hope you love them!
These look so good with all the melty chocolate. I love Reese’s pieces which definitely are better (in my opinion) than reeses cups! I’m craving cookies lately and I need to do something about it!
Cookie cravings need to be meet!! Haha!
Thanks Bri!
Every Friday should come with double trouble chocolate chunk peanut butter cookies! Chocolate and peanut butter should be a requirement on all the Fridays..and Mondays…all the days. These look sooooo goooooo!
Yes, it totally should! 🙂
Could I leave out the reeses pieces? Would I need to add more flour?
Of course, just sum more chocolate chunks or just leave them out completely. no added flour is needed. Hope you love these!
One of my favorite cookies I’ve ever made were peanut butter cookies with honey and Reese’s pieces. It’s been a long time since I’ve made them though and I love the idea of adding chocolate chunks!
Thanks Erin!
I will be making these for sure! Love the double stacking idea!
Thanks Kathy! Hope you love them!
The addition of honey in these sounds SO good! Honey + PB + chocolate… yum!!
Thank you! Hope you had a great weekend!
I would love nothing more than to come home from work to a massive plate of these cookies!
Wishing I could bake you a fresh batch!
I have never seen the double stacking before! I will definitely be trying it!! Fantastic recipe.
Thanks Sarah! Hope you love these!
So sad I can’t get my hands on reese’s pieces where I live 🙁
That is so sad, I am sorrY!
These look sooo perfect – I wish I was still in school so I’d have an excuse to gobble down a whole plateful. Curious – what’s the reason for double stacking them? Just a bigger cookie? Less spreading that way? You’ve totally got me wondering!
Hey Katie! I think it helps the cookies spread a little less.
Thanks so much! 🙂 Hope you had a great weekend!
Way to start a school year with fantastic cookies! Love the gooey chocolate shots!
Thanks Anna!
chocolate and peanut butter is pretty much the best flavour combination to ever exist, totally craving a bite of these cookies right now!
Thanks so much, Thalia! It’s a cravable cookie! 🙂
These cookies are absolute perfection, just what my Friday needs!
Doesn’t every Friday need cookies?? 🙂
Hope you had a great weekend!
Yes, right out of the oven — that’s the ONLY way to eat a chocolate chip cookie. And the stacking technique is pure genius!
See, you know what is up! 🙂
These cookies look so good! Such a neat combination of flavours. Double trouble all the way!
Thanks Katrina! A little trouble is always a good thing…when chocolate is involved anyway! 🙂
This looks awesome! Love all the chocolate going on here (and of course the peanut butter!). I honestly am in awe with how perfect all the cookies look!
Thanks! 🙂
Ha, my mom was the same way. Amazing cookies but always the same ones! I am IN LOVE with these of course Tieghan. Because, well, PB &C is the best combo ever. Pinned!
Yes, yes, yes it is! 🙂 Chocolate and PB all the way!
These look SO soft, and of course you can’t go wrong with peanut butter and chocolate — ever!
Not ever! 🙂
Thanks Nicole!
These look delicious! And I love the addition of the honey!
Thank you Monet! I honey adds such a nice sweet flavor mixed with the peanut butter.
Even if it is double trouble, how can you go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter. I’ll take them any time.
Haha, right! 🙂
Honey in cookies is a great idea. I know these would be amazing. I am putting them on the list for the next cookies I make.
Thanks! Let me know if you make them! 🙂
These look incredible and perfect to feed my current cookie cravings, I would never have thought of adding the honey!
Thanks so much! The honey add such a nice sweet touch!
I think I’m in love. These are my dream cookies!
Thanks! 🙂
What kind of brown sugar do you use? Light or dark?
I used light brown sugar. Hope you love these!
Ummm, just barely made these and….they are pretty much AMAZING! Let me just start by saying I could barely get them in the oven because I could not stop eating the cookie dough! OH MY GOSH that stuff was good. But, I finally got a tray of them in the oven and they just came out and they are so delish! I must say, when I put the two balls on top of each other, they came out looking nothing like the picture on this site (they didn’t seem to expand out at all, like it looks like in the pics), but that’s ok. They were still the perfect flavor and softness, which is all I really care about. I ended up only doing single balls on my next tray and they turned out fine. The only thing I did different with this recipe is that I used 1 cup of milk choc chips instead of the chopped chocolate chunks. Everything else was the same and this is a killer recipe!
I just made these. They were gross. I threw them all in the garbage. what a waste of perfectly good ingredients. Too bad honest reviews like this will never make it to the light of day because this comments section is only reserved for other food bloggers supporting each other and most, if not all of you have never even made any of the things you are commenting about. The entire comments section of every food blog is filled with people saying how great it looks! What a joke. You people should really learn to except an honest review so the rest of us non food bloggers don’t waste a bunch of time and ingredients.
I dare you to post this.
I made these, I’m not a food blogger, and I love them! I brought them to a football tailgate and they were devoured quickly, and I’m bringing them to a class full of hungry teenagers today. Yum!
So happy you loved the cookies! THANK YOU!
What’s the purpose of double stacking the dough?
Hey Jennifer! I like to double stack the cookies so that the edges turn out crisp but then the center is doughy. Let me know if you have other questions, thanks!
These cookies were a hit! I had been looking at making these for a while now (peanut butter and chocolate is always a good combo) and they were eaten almost instantly! Will definitely be making these again. Thanks for the recipe!
Thank you so much Alex!
Can you substitute crunchy peanut butter for the creamy peanut butter?
HI! I am sure crunchy will be fine, but you will have chunks of peanuts in your cookies. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
These are some of the best peanut butter & chocolate cookies EVER! They are soft and flavorful. Thanks Tieghan!! You have come up with another winner.
Thank you so much Judy!! xTieghan
Hi! I am making these for my niece’s 5th birthday, in quarantine 🙁 but I only have unsalted butter, should I increase the salt?
Thanks!
Hi Jami,
Yes I would add 1/4 teaspoon of salt. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
These were sooo good that I made another batch to freeze!!! What is the best way to cook from frozen? Should I defrost them or just pop them into the oven frozen? Thank you!!
Hey Jen,
Thanks for making the recipe, I am so delighted that it was enjoyed! Yes, you will want to thaw before baking. Have a great week:) xTieghan
