Double Chocolate Hawaiian Tiramisu.
With a little matcha too…
But only if you’re into it. I kind of sort of wanted to include the matcha cream in the title, but then I didn’t want to scare anyone off, since this recipe can be made with or without it and either way it’s a KILLER recipe.
So yeah, I just didn’t want to freak anyone out, but for the matcha lovers out there, this is a dessert you must, must try. And for anyone else out there, well, you guys should try it too, cause it’s double chocolate tiramisu!
Sidenote: I totally just licked chocolate off my keyboard. I mean, really?? I think I cook a little too much, and I definitely think I need to stop shooting chocolate and then trying to use my laptop to look at the photos while I shoot…with chocolate smeared on my hands. <–real life problems.
You guys remember how the other day I was telling you about our new goat Tiramisu? And you remember how I said that if we ended up getting Tiramisu that I would in turn make some Tiramisu for you all??
Well, guess what, I totally held up my end of the bargain and today we are talking Tiramisu. Like tiramisu the dessert, not Tiramisu the goat. Although, I do have some photos of cute Tiramisu throughout the post, so you know, a little talk about Tiramisu the goat too. Geez, how many times do you think I will say tiramisu throughout this post??
Soo, I have actually had the idea for this tiramisu (the dessert) for a while now, I think since before summer even started, but for some reason I held off on making it. Maybe in the back of my mind I somehow knew that Tiramisu (the goat) was soon to be apart of the family and that I needed to hold off until she was here. Yeah right, I would like to think I am THAT good, but the truth is, I just was not 100% percent sure I wanted to make this dessert. A lot of times it takes me a while before I finally convince myself that a recipe is good enough to show you guys. Sometimes a recipe just needs a month or so to linger in my brain before I pull the trigger. Occasionally a recipe will linger and stay the same (that is rare), but mostly the recipes change somewhat and hopefully, just get better. Often a recipe just needs time to grow into deliciousness in my head.
Is that weird? It sounds really weird, but it’s kind of just how it works sometimes.
Anyway, this Double Chocolate Hawaiian Tiramisu was one of those recipes, and I am SO glad I let it linger, develop and get better because it’s kind of perfect now. Hello, are you looking at all that chocolate on chocolate on coffee soaked bread action???!!
So much yes!
And maybe my favorite part about the entire recipe is the fact that it is completely no-bake and uses just two bowls and maybe 20 minutes of time. It’s honestly SO easy to make. Really, so easy!!
Winner, right?!?
Here’s the deal, the Hawaiian part to this recipe comes in a few forms.
>>>ONE: Fresh brewed Hawaiian coffee + a little bit of Kahlua…you know, for good measure.
>>>TWO: Soft, buttery and Sweet Hawaiian Bread.
>>>THREE: Full fat canned coconut milk replaces the traditional cream used in Tiramisu.
And then you add a lot of chocolate… you layer… and you call it all Tiramisu. Simple, quick and insanely addicting. It’s the perfect dessert to make at a moment’s notice, BUT it does need to chill out in the fridge for an hour or so to help the cream stiffen and the flavors to set, so you will need to plan for that.
Oh and yes, I do think Tiramisu the goat would approve of these. I didn’t giver her any though, I wasn’t sure that would be the best idea. The goats seem to eat anything and everything, but I don’t know, chocolate just didn’t seem like a good idea…you know, since it can kill dogs and all.
But really, isn’t Tiramisu the goat cute?!?! And isn’t this Tiramisu (the dessert) pretty dang good-looking??
Yup, Yup. YUP!
And I am done. Sorry for my annoyingness today.

This Double Chocolate Hawaiian Tiramisu was one of those recipes, and I am SO glad I let it linger, develop and get better because it's kind of perfect now. Hello, are you looking at all that chocolate on chocolate on coffee soaked bread action???!!
Ingredients
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 cup full fat canned coconut milk
- 1/4 cup + 3 tablespoons Kahlua or coffee liquor optional
- 4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate melted + cooled slightly
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1-2 teaspoons matcha green tea powder optional - I buy mine on Amazon
- 1/2 cup strong brew Hawaiian coffee * or just use your favorite black coffee
- 6 Sweet Hawaiian Rolls cubed
- 1 cups batch [coconut whipped cream | https://dev.halfbakedharvest.com/chocolate-dipped-coconut-tres-leches-cronuts/] or 1 1/2 whipped cream for topping
- 4 ounces dark or milk chocolate finely chopped
- cocoa powder + matcha green tea powder for dusting
- chocolate covered coffee beans for serving (optional)
Instructions
-
Melt 4 ounces semi sweet chocolate on the stove or in the microwave and cool slightly.
-
Combine the mascarpone, powdered sugar, coconut milk, 3 tablespoons kahlua (if using), melted chocolate and vanilla in a large bowl. Beat with a mixer on medium speed until creamy, light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
-
Add the coffee and the remaining Kahlua to a shallow bowl. Lightly dip the pieces of Hawaiian bread through the coffee mixture and allow any excess coffee to drip off.
-
To assemble add a layer of coffee dipped Hawaiian bread to the bottom of 4-6 serving glasses or 1 serving bowl. Spread a layer of the mascarpone over the bread and then add a finely chopped chocolate. Repeat the layers until all the ingredients have been used. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 1 hour or overnight. Garnish each individual tiramisu with a dollop of coconut whipped cream and a good sprinkle of chopped chocolate. Dust with cocoa and or matcha powder. Serve!
Recipe Notes
*By Hawaiian coffee, I just mean use fresh Hawaiian coffee beans and brew them. **You can also use a Sweet Hawaiian Round Loaf too. Just cut then into squares.
But hey, it’s Friday and we have chocolate. SCORE!
*If you’re in Colorado and looking for a great little day trip, head over to Frog Belly Farm in Longmont, tell Heather I said Hi!
I was trying to talk myself into eating less chocolate.
School starts Wednesday and it’s all over the place.
But I see these pictures and now all I want is chocolate–ugh–lol.
Have a great weekend.
Aw, Tiramisu is gorgeous…and she must be so honoured to have your dessert named after her. Your tiramisu dessert sounds…there are no words…but as always with your chocolate desserts, I feel I am in chocolate heaven, and that is a good thing. What a nice touch with the matcha tea powder ! 🙂 Have a good weekend.
These little double chocolate tiramisu cups are gorgeous – and Tieghan, your pictures are MARVELOUS!
Wow Tieghan, this Tiramisu sounds unbelievable! And in 20 minutes? Oh yeah!! Love the coconut whipped cream! And Tiramisu (the goat) too!
HI Tighan
What can I use instead of Hawain bread
and can the coconut milk be replaced with cream or light cream?
Thanks, it looks great, and so does the goat
HI! You can use your favorite sweet bread or Italian Lady fingers. Yes, you may use heavy cream.
Thanks and I hope you love this!

Once again your a genius! I’ll be adding matcha to these tiramisu’s for sure.
Hi Tieghan, what kind of Matcha powder to you buy? Thanks
I never used matcha but the word ‘tiramisu’ is enough to get me dig in! You got me craving girl 🙂
Both Tiramisus are gorgeous 🙂 One looks delicious and fancy, and the other looks so perfect, like an illustration in a story book, with the wildflowers in the background. I loved hearing your process of letting the recipes marinate in your mind before you act on them. That’s so cool! Can’t wait to try all the chocolatey goodness here.
xx Sydney

question…..How much in advance can you make this desert before serving?
Hi! You can make 1-2 days in advance, it develops better flavor when it sits overnight, so it is perfect to make in advance. Hope you love it! 🙂
Awesome!! 🙂 Thanks! Can’t wait to try it….:Þ
Oh man, I have the same problem with getting food everywhere. I was going through my older lenses and they’ve all been destroyed on the outside from constant food mess cleaning. I guess there are worse things.
I love the presentation on this. They look like the are beautifully made along with beautiful pictures.
This recipe looks beautiful and simple to make! Thanks for sharing it. FYI – The link for the coconut whipped cream from the ingredient list actually goes to Chocolate Dipped Coconut Tres Leches Cronuts. 🙂
