Chocolate Covered Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels.
I officially bow down to these pretzels.

I didn’t really think a simple chocolate covered pretzel could get any better, because to me, the simple combo of salted pretzels and sweet chocolate will forever win in my book. BUT, then these pretzels happened and they changed my world.
I only added three extra ingredients, but oh my gosh. I can’t even explain how amazing these are. Like so good, so addicting and SO easy! I figured since Thanksgiving is less than a week away (oh my gosh, oh my gosh, someone send me a personal elf to help me with all the holiday prep!!) that we needed a super quick and easy dessert/snack that’s guaranteed to be a hit with everyone.
To me that just screams “chocolate covered pretzels…with extra salt!”. Up until now, I’ve never thought to put chocolate covered pretzels on the blog, I just felt like everyone already knows how to make them. I mean, I think even my brothers know how to take a pretzel and dip it in chocolate. Well, that could definitely be a stretch for Red. The kid has plenty of skills on a snowboard, but put him in the kitchen and he’s LOST. Put him in front of school books and um… he’s still lost.
Yikes?
For sure.
I do have full confidence though that even he could master the art of the chocolate covered pretzels with a little direction.
I think.

ANYWAY, my point is that until now I never thought to do a post about chocolate covered pretzels. Then I had the idea of chocolate covered cinnamon sugar pretzels and that made me think. Like, hmm, maybe that’s worth posting?
So I did what I do when I don’t know what to do. I asked mom, I asked Abby (my cousin) and I asked Maggie (also my cousin). All three answers came back almost identical, “that sounds yummy!! I don’t think I would have ever thought to add cinnamon sugar. You have to make those, they will be so good!”. So that pretty much settled it for me.
I was totally making chocolate covered cinnamon sugar pretzels.
YEAHHH!

So here is what I did, it’s pretty dang simple.
***One: melt some butter.
***Two: add a bag of pretzels to a super large bowl, you can use your favorite size/shape, any pretzel works!
***Three: pour the melted butter all over the pretzels.
***Four: add a little sugar and a lot of cinnamon…aka the good stuff.
***Five: toss it all together.
***Six: bake until toasted, golden perfection.
***Seven: dip (and dip generously) with melted chocolate (milk or dark).
***Eight: sprinkle with flaky salt. <–DO IT.
***Nine: EAT.
Pretty simple right?!? I am giving you fair warning though, these pretzels are addicting. Stopping at just one is nearly impossible. But it’s cool cause, “Tis the Season”, it’s the one time of the year when eating everything and anything is totally acceptable.
Hehe. I love it!

Ok but really, probably, no most definitely, you need to make these ASAP. There are several options here, you could make these as a hostess gift for the holidays, pack them up and ship them as gifts, or um, just devour them all yourself. <–That would be me, since these do not even have a chance when they are within reach.
Seriously, these Chocolate Covered Cinnamon Sugar Pretzels make the BEST gifts. They are so easy and durable, which is obviously a HUGE bonus when shipping things or even when just transporting them from one house to another. PLUS, there’s no frosting, so that means no mess.
YES.
You see what I did here? I created the ultimate holiday gift, plus a simple, addicting, delicious dessert. Cool!

I officially bow down to these pretzels. They are that good!
Ingredients
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
- 1 ounce bag pretzel use your favorite size/shape, 16
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- seeds from 1/2 a vanilla bean optional
- 12 ounces milk semi-sweet or dark chocolate, melted
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a large bowl, toss together the melted butter, pretzels and the cinnamon sugar.
-
Spread the pretzels out on a the prepared baking sheets in an even layer. Drizzle with any remaining butter left in the bowl and sprinkle with any remaining cinnamon sugar.
-
Bake for 10 minutes or until toasted and golden. Watch close as the sugar can burn quickly on the pretzels. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
-
Meanwhile, melt the chocolate over a double broiler or in the microwave on intervals stirring every 30 seconds until melted and smooth.
-
Dip each pretzel in chocolate and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining pretzels. Place the pretzels in the freezer to set for 10 minutes. Store in an air-tight container for up to 1 week.

In my opinion though, you should just keep these all to yourself. Don’t worry, it’ll be our little secret.
P.S. Make sure you guys check back tomorrow for a special Saturday post! I have something fun planned!
agreed, never would have thought to smother them in butter and cinnamon sugar!! if i make these there’s no way i’m keeping them all; otherwise, it’d turn into a solo pretzel binge, especially because they’re crunchy (crunchy snacks are the best) and there’s chocolate. ack.
haha! Thank you so much, Heather! Hope you have a great weekend!
These are so beautimous!!!! I totally agree with your support group, it’s definitely worth sharing and I so wanna try it now! Yumness!
Thank you so much, Tori!! Have a great weekend!
I only ever tried those big pretzels that are like bread, you know? I loved them, the texture and the taste of the dough. THese, I’m pretty sure would go down a treat, because, well, chocolate!!

Mall pretzels? Right. Those are good because of all the butter on them and in them. But…..it’s got the word “butt” right in here. But I always have to check out your posts to see what you come up with next. I prefer the chocolate to the butter methinks. Thanks!
hehe! Thank you so much, Miranda! Have a great weekend!
Yum, so glad you did post these. These are going to be so more-ish 🙂 . Have a great weekend Tieghan.
Thank you! Have a great weekend, Lynne!!
O, this makes me thinks about the good old days in germany! I used to go to Aldi and buy a bunch of boxes full of those! But making them yourself… challenge accepted! Thanks!

These pretzels look perfect. I would love to see a video on your chocolate drizzling technique!
I’m going to be making your braised short rib recipe on Christmas Day, I was wondering if you would recommend a red wine that I should use when preparing the dish.
Hmm! Great idea! I will try to make one! 🙂
Thanks Cassandra!!
Oh and as for the wine, use whatever you would drink. That would be great!

Seriously Tieghan! Chocolate covered pretzels are my favourite. And now you’ve gone and added cinnamon sugar to it!!:D Perfection! I would love a whole stack of these so I can gobble them up while catching up on Homeland. Mind shipping some to Toronto?! haha
If I could I SO would! 🙂
Thank you so much, Donna! Have a great weekend!
Wow! What do you use to drizzle the chocolate so nicely? These look amazing!
hah! I actually just pour the chocolate into a sandwich size ziplock bag and snip off a tinny piece of the corner of the bag and then drizzle it that way. Let me know if you have questions.
THANKS!!
Tieghan, these are the prettiest pretzels I’ve ever seen 🙂 Your photography is more gorgeous every time I visit.
Wow, Jennifer! Thank you so much for these kind words, it means a lot!! 🙂
Hope you have a great weekend! Tieghan!
Cinnamon sugar and chocolate is totally the way to go. In fact, I think it is always the way to go no questions asked.
Agreed! Thanks so much, Nicole! 🙂
Oh my goodness, these look so delicious! Especially since they have two of my favorites – chocolate and cinnamon sugar 🙂

Thanks Dani! Hope you have a great weekend!
Talk about one seeeriously addicting, sweet & salty snack! Love it, Tieghan! I’m anxiously awaiting the Special Saturday post 🙂
hehe! THANK YOU!
How do you get the milk chocolate so thin? I used Ghirardelli and it melted nicely, but I would have liked it to be just a bit thinner. I used a whole bag for half the pretzels?
Hey Patty,
I am sorry, I am not sure I understand what you are asking? Would you mind explaining a bit more?
Oh my goodness, these look dangerously delicious! I’m not sure I could keep these pretzels in the house without inhaling them all! 🙂
🙂
I would never in a million years thought of slathering store bought pretzels with butter and cinnamon sugar! And then chocolate on top! What a genius idea Tieghan. They look delicious! 🙂
Thank you so much! Hope you had a great weekend!!
These are fabulous. At first I thought the sprinkled on salt would be too much but it’s perfect! They’re easy, beautiful and yummy!! We made 2 batches and I’m loving this for hostess gifts this holiday season. Thanks for this fun recipe!
Nancy
Thank you so much!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Making these tomorrow!! But I have a wuestion – did you do some sort of design with the twine?? The pretzels look like it but I culdn’t see ay referene to it (but I may have missed it!)
ugh – I typed it too fast!! Can you read through my typos???
Hey Donna, I am not sure what you are asking. Can you clarify? Thanks!!
Hi-The pretzels are in the oven and now I suddenly have a question!! Can I use chic chips melted? Or must it be chocolate baking bars? Anyone help please?
Chocolate chips will be great! Hope you love these! 🙂
The chocolate chips did work great, thank you. These were fun to make and super fun to eat. A new favorite, especially when I need to make something quick. Thank you.
These are delicious!!! So easy to make, but I think what Donna was asking is these a design on your pretzels? Its as if you dipped and then swirled some chocolate on them.
can we use salted pretzels?
Yup! Happy Holidays! 🙂
I’ve had my eye on these since you first posted! I made them today to go with plates that I’m making up for family coming on Christmas Eve. Of course, I had to taste-test, and they are EXCELLENT! One thing…the instructions mention combining the butter, pretzels and cinnamon-sugar. The photos look like the pretzels may be dipped in butter and THEN sprinkled with the sugar mixture. In any case, they were delish! I used dark chocolate discs from that cake supply company….worked great. I wanted to drizzle with addt’l white chocolate but just don’t have the time (next time!). I’m sure they’ll love them as much as I do! 🙂 Thanks Tieghan, for all of your great recipes and posts! I really enjoy them! Blessings to you and yours for Christmas, and a happy and healthy new year!
I made these to give to my siblings at Christmas with some other baked goods. I had used up all the good chocolate so I just melted chocolate chips with some shortening. The chocolate chips alone were too thick for dipping so the shape of the pretzels were lost (the holes got filled in with chocolate, not that I’m complaining about gobs of chocolate). The shortening helps thin it out a bit so it isn’t so gloppy.
Gretchen,
I used the large pretzels, approx 3″ wide and 2 1/2″ high and didn’t have a problem. Maybe you used small pretzels? The discs that you melt down in the microwave work really well. The chocolate was already quite firm before I even put into the freezer.
Also, I wanted to salt the dipped pretzels because I liked the look (and taste). My pretzels were already salted, so I held back on it. Glad I did because the salt taste in the pretzels does come through. It would be have been to much if I added more.
These look awesome! How did you do the chocolate drizzle? With a fork?
Hey Sarah! I either put the chocolate in a bag and snip the corner off and drizzle that or use a fork. Thank you!
If I keep some frozen can I keep them for longer than a week?
Hey Candie! yes, keeping them frozen works great and you can keep them for a very long time! Let me know if you have other questions. Thanks!
