Chai Cashew and Hemp Latte.
Welcoming 2018 with this warming Chai Cashew and Hemp Latte.
New year, new warm and cozy drink, right?
I’m hoping you all had an amazing new year’s eve and day and are ready to hit the ground running with fresh (healthy) recipes this January! I can’t wait for what this year has in store.
PS. if you’re looking for inspiration for healthy eating this week, check out my meal planning post.
Speaking of New Year’s, did you guys have a fun NYE? I caught a bad cold, so I spent the night in, just hanging at home. We had a really bad cold run through the entire family over the past two weeks. Some got it worse than others, and I was one of the ones who got it worse. When I was a kid I would get horrible chest colds, but up until this week, I haven’t had one in years. Thankfully, I woke up Monday feeling better and I’m happy to be on the mend just in time to really start the New Year right!
Looking forward to all that is to come this year, and hoping to see some big goals come to fruition.
What are you guys looking forward to in 2018?
Right now, I am excited about this latte. I’ve literally been making it every single day, it’s so good.
I’ve decided that even though the holidays are now over (enter giant sad face…I love the holidays), we still need cozy recipes like this latte to get us through these cold winter days ahead. Normally, I’m much more of a hot chocolate kind of girl, but this year I’ve really grown to love lattes, especially any kind of Chai latte.
Not sure if you guys noticed, but 2017 was the year of all things chai for me. Hello to these Frosted Chai Snickerdoodle Snowmen, this Vanilla Chai Tea White Russian, this Chai Pumpkin Pie with Maple Whipped Cream, and these Mulled Apple Cider Chai French Crullers. So yeah, you see? A lot of chai, but that’s cool, right? I mean, who doesn’t love the flavors of chai tea in the winter time?
The. Best.
Anyway, with all the sicknesses that has been running through my family and just a general want/need for warm and cozy drinks, I created this superfood chai latte.
Here’s a quick break down of this chai latte’s health facts.
- vegan
- gluten free
- contains double doses of cinnamon and ginger, which are proven cold fighters
- has a serving of omega 3 rich hemp seeds, proven healthy fats
- includes protein rich cashews
- free of added sugars, only pure honey or maple for a touch of sweetness
I’d say as far as lattes go, this is a pretty dang healthy one, no?
What I love most about this creamy chai latte is that it’s incredibly quick and easy to make and I don’t need anything fancy to make it either. Just some boiling water, a blender, and about fifteen or so minutes of time.
Simple as that.
The hemp seeds and cashews make the latte smooth and creamy, while the chai tea and vanilla add their warm and cozy flavors.
I’ve found myself making this mid-to late afternoon when I need something warm to sip on, or just a jolt of energy. It’s also incredibly soothing if you have a cold or sore throat. I instantly felt better after sipping this while my throat was sore from coughing up a storm the other day.
Also? If you’re feeling stressed, this will help! The spices in the chai tea and the creaminess of the drink instantly help to relax you.
Trust me.
Basically, what I’m saying is that this is a ‘cure anything and everything latte’. You should probably make it today, this first Tuesday of the New Year. We all need a nice way to ease back into life after the holidays, no January blues around here!

Course: Drinks
Cuisine: American, Asian
Keyword: chai latte, coffee, hemp drink
Quick, easy to make, and no fancy machines. Just some boiling water, a blender, and about fifteen or so minutes of time.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1-2 chai tea bags
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1-2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (I prefer honey)
- 2 tablespoons raw hemp seeds
- 1 rounded tablespoon roasted cashews
Instructions
-
1. Bring the water to a boil over high heat. Add the tea bags, cover and steep for 10 minutes.
2. In a high powder blender, combine the cinnamon, ginger, vanilla, honey, hemp seeds, cashews, and steeped tea. Blend on medium for 2 minutes, then blend on high for about 1 minute or until the drink is smooth and frothy. Pour into a mug. If desired, top with a sprinkle of cinnamon and hemp seeds. Enjoy!
And that foam on top? Homemade latte perfection.

It sure looks yummy. I just need some chai tea bag
Lots of sickness going around. Glad you are better.
How is your new barn doing along? Would love to see more pics and hear about it.
Happy 2018.
Oops!! Coming along??
The new barn is going along great! I am so excited to show you guys! Thank you Charlotte, Happy 2018!
What is your favorite chai tea bag? They are not all the same. Can’t wait to make this drink….its sooo cold here. Thank you.
I agree tea bags are not the same since they add different amounts of each spice. “O Organics” has a nice blend. If you have an Indian store nearby, you can get the “Masala” or spiced tea bags as well. They also have a “Tea Plus” blend of spices which are the same spices in the teabag to add additional flavor 🙂
I’m a huge chai fan Tieghan, so I’ll be giving this a go for sure! So sorry y’all got sick over the holidays. Hope everyone’s on the mend soon! Happy 2018! Looking for greatness from HBH this year!!
Thank you Mary Ann! I am so glad you like this recipe and hope your 2018 is off to a great start!

Yes! I completely agree. I hope you love these Brian! Thank you!
Those photos are so cozy, makes me want to dive in!
Thank you Maëva!
Hey Tieghan,
I absolutely love this chai tea latte and think it would be perfect with breakfast tomorrow. 🙂 I agree that chai is wonderful and really like the cozy (but healthy!) recipes. I think those are the best (this latte included ?). Maybe a creamy chai and date dessert would be good? Or a moroccan chicken dish (similar to your Moroccan chicken with pomegranate rice and cinnamon)?
I’m sorry you weren’t feeling well and there’s been a cold going around. Hopefully you’re feeling better now and no one else gets sick! Maybe that will get everyone more excited for healthy January and starting the new year all healthy and cozy.
I hope you’re able to rest and I’m looking forward to tomorrows post. 🙂
So glad you’re liking this! It is perfect for breakfast. Creamy chai date dessert sounds so amazing… YUM! I am starting to feel better, thank you for asking! I hope your New Year if off to a great start!

I love this drink! I was thinking that it would be amazing if you can create a hot chocolate version of it 🙂
Thank you Kim!
I just made this and it so wonderful!! Thank you!
Thank you Kristi!
Oh my goodness! This was absolutely fantastic and your pictures are gorgeous! I made this and thought it was just so comforting, like a hug in a cup!
I normally drink chai in the morning (as an Indian, I think it’s a law lol) so I made my chai as I normally do with black loose leaf tea, cardamom, a tea spice blend, and grated ginger. I let it boil for a minute and then blended it with the cashews and hemp seeds.
I’m trying to transition to a more vegan diet, and this is such a great way to avoid the only milk I have in the mornings. If my dad gets a whiff I’m trying to give him something healthy, he will avoid it (the adults in my family are 90% children lol) but he really liked this chai latte! Thank you for this recipe and idea!
Thank you so much Sunny! I am so glad you like this and hope you enjoy some other vegan recipes on my blog!
Do you think a nutribullet would work? I don’t have a blender!
Hi Claire! I think it will work great! I hope you love this!
I hate to be the person who says “I made this recipe but CHANGED IT COMPLETELY” in the comments, but I like the principle of making nut milks from scratch and combining it with tea, so I used the same ratios but did two tablespoons of almonds and 1 of chia seeds instead of the hemp/cashews, and it turned out fantastic. I love the inclusion of spices and might go a little heavier on the ginger and add a little cinnamon next time, but this was a fantastic thing and I think you could make all sorts of combinations with this lovely recipe.
Hi Emjay! No worries, I love that you made it your own and it turned out amazing! Thank you so much!
Drinking this right now and it is so lovely!!! ❤️
I am so happy to hear that! Thank you Kara!
This looks so great! Can’t wait to try.
Thank you so much Devin! xTieghan
Wow. Made this today and fell in love. Can you please do more lattes like this in the blender? Maybe a matcha for spring? This is unreal. Thank you
I am so glad you liked this Kelly! I will try to do more! xTieghan
I just made this without hemp seeds (didn’t have any) and without honey and it was still sooo good! We will definitely be making this again. I’ve loved cooking and trying new recipes ever since I discovered you a few years ago. I have both of your cookbooks and we’ve loved everything we’ve tried. Keep up the good work!
That is so amazing! I am so glad you loved this latte recipe Heather! Thank you! xTieghan
This chai was fantastic!! I made a big batch and kept it warm in my crock pot. It didn’t stay frothy for long, but it was still a hit with all my coworkers. I made the recipe as is, with the one exception of using half oat milk and half water.
I am so happy you loved this! Thank you Lexy! xTieghan
Thank you, very good! First try, I had no hemp seeds so used some oats. It was good enough for me to try it again with the hemp seeds as intended. Way better! I hadn’t blended hemp seeds before, Mixed with the cashews, they make a lovely milk that is creamy and frothy but to me feels also light. In addition, the 2nd time I made it, I halved the honey, still was great.
Hey Dru,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am so glad it was enjoyed! Happy New Year! xTieghan
This was so yummy! I love the richness and frothiness. I don’t have anything fancy at home to froth my hot beverages so I’m excited that I can do it in my blender. I didn’t have hemp seeds so I used chia instead. I’m not a fan of the flavor of chia seeds so I may put way less or not at all next time. But, it was still delicious. Looks just like something from a cafe. I even had cinnamon sticks on hand to garnish on top like in your picture. Looks super pretty and fancy! I will make this for my friends when they come over. Thank you for this lovely recipe! I love your blog!
Hey Mel,
I am so glad this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a lot for making it! Have a great weekend! xTieghan
Made this with coffee instead of tea, still delicious!
Hey Sonia,
I am so glad the recipe was enjoyed, thank you for making it! xTieghan
