Buffalo Cheddar Chex Mix.
I have the ultimate snack for you…Buffalo Cheddar Chex Mix!
And I do mean the ultimate.
It’s addicting.
And I’ve waited over a year to share the recipe.
Of course, I do know that’s just ridiculous. BUT this Chex Mix is just too perfect of a recipe for the Super Bowl…so I had to wait. I’m sorry for selfishly making this throughout the entire year and not even saying a word. I kind of feel bad now.
Recipe rundown:
~It’s super easy.
~It feeds a crowd (or can also feed just two).
~You probably have most of the ingredients on hand now.
~It has pita chips.
~And pretzel nuggets.
~Cheddar cheese.
~And buffalo sauce!
Stopping after just one handful is not possible.
If you are planning to make this for Super Bowl Sunday (wow..is that really only a week from today?), I would make a double batch. It’s gonna go fast.
I could write more, but this recipe is so simple, I don’t even know what else to say. I could certainly just say over and over how amazingly good this is (it really really is!), but I feel like that gets just a tad boring. Or really just kind of obnoxious.
So….
Just make it!

Cuisine: American
Keyword: buffalo, cheddar, chex mix, nuts, pretzel
The ultimate snack mix
Ingredients
- 3 cups corn chex
- 3 cups rice chex
- 2 cups whole wheat chex
- 2 cups mixed nuts or 1 cup peanuts
- 2 cups sourdough pretzel nuggets
- 2 cups pita chips
- 1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cups) butter melted
- 3/4 cup hot sauce I like to use franks
- 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
- 3-4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese finely grated
- 4 ounces blue cheese crumbled (optional)
Instructions
-
Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees F.
-
In large bowl, mix the Chex cereals, mixed nuts, pretzels and pita chips. Set aside.
-
Melt the butter in a bowl and mix in the hot sauce and seasoned salt. Pour the buffalo sauce over the cereal mixture, tossing well for 3-5 minutes or until the cereal mixture is evenly coated. Spread evenly over two greased baking pans. Sprinkle the cheese over top of both baking pans.
-
Bake 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and toss with blue cheese. Allow the cheese to melt five minutes and then spread on paper towels to cool, about 15 minutes (or just start eating!!). Store in airtight container.
Time to snack.
**Oh, and I just have to mention…Backwards Day. It’s this Friday, January thirty-first and I could not be more pumped. Normally I do not pay attention to weird holidays like this, but my friends over at Bisquick are making things extra fun this year. They’re throwing a Backwards Day Brinner Bash! What’s a brinner bash? Basically, it’s a huge round-up of breakfast for dinner recipes that you just cannot pass up. All the recipes are amazing and I’m so excited for you guys to check out the pancakes I made for the bash. So be sure to head on over to the Brinner Bash this Friday. It is going to be good!
This stuff looks CRAZY GOOD! Wow. I bet it’s supremely addicting! 🙂 pinned
SO addicting. You cannot stop! Thanks for pinning! 🙂
I was wondering if you could tell me about the insulated sheet or two baking sheets stacked on one another – trick? I have never heard about that, and while following your recipes saw this tip.
I did it, but if asked why…I wouldn’t have a decent argument. Haha.
Thank you for the recipe. 🙂 pinned too.
Whoa girl, this looks like such a fab snack!! Delicious!
Thanks Katrina! It is addicting!
Ok, I’m gathering the ingredients and making this today – then another batch for Super Bowl – this looks amazing!
Thanks Kathy! Hope you love it. It is seriously my families favorite snack!
I STILL haven’t ever had Chex mix–I know, I’m weird like that. But I’m all for the spicy buffalo sauce on top!! I bet this would be a huge hit.
Ha, no way! I normally only ever make it on Christmas Eve, but it is perfect for snacking!
Shut the front door. This looks incredible! My boyfriend loves all things Chex mix and all things Frank’s (and so do I) so I need to make this immediately! Pinning now!
Thanks Ashley!!
I know nothing of the Super Bowl but we’ve been inhaling the winter XGames! This would be the perfect thing to crunch on while watching… Another great Tieghan recipe
The x-games of been one here too! Actually my younger brother is there!
Thanks Sarah!
Looks amazing Tieghan!
Good grief, how do you expect me to keep my hands out of this?! Let’s just say this is all I will be eating. Surely there is enough in here to justify it as lunch … and dinner … and midnight snack. Wow, does this look amazing or what?!
This really is the ultimate snack!! I know I will not be able to stop eating this if and when I make it! I can already tell the pita chips will be my favorite part 🙂
Thanks Cate! I love the pita chips too!
Holy crap that is amazing…totally making this soon. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Be sure to stop by my link party, Om Nom Nom Friday (even though it’s Sunday) and share your delicious treats 🙂
Happy Blogging!
Happy Valley Chow
Thanks!
So smart! You must never stop thinking 🙂 My husband and I could finish this off in ten minutes flat — with not a crumb to spare..
Haha! Smart? not too sure about that, but thank you so much!!
I want this right now! I LOVE buffalo flavor- I used to buy the buffalo pretzels all the time! I just might be making this next weekend.
Thanks Julianne! Hope you get to make this Sunday!

It is so addictive! Thanks Laura!
Pinned” pinned , and pinned again! I love football snacks
Me too! 🙂
I’m sorry, what?! I have to go to the grocery store today now because of you. I am blaming you for Sunday shopping.
Very very good mix….already made twice…
Neighbors came over and we
Devoured first batch ….. So being they were here, I had help with second batch. I think I should get a bowl and hide some for a snack tomorrow !
YAY!! SO happy everyone love this! Thanks Sally!
OMG best snack mix ever….made up a batch last weekend for the Super Bowl…these were a huge hit, to the point that my hubby wouldn’t allow me to bring any to work to share…lol…looking forward to making your Christmas Chex mix with the left over cereal!
Ya! So happy this was a huge hit!!
Thanks for making this!
Meh, this was ok. The flavor is addicting but there was so much sauce the cereal never crisped up all the way even though I cooked it for an extra half hour. The blue cheese also didn’t melt, it just got soft (so it isn’t sticking to any of the mix). I am also leary of storing it outside of the fridge because of the blue cheese now. I might make it again, but I would reduce the sauce in half and not add the blue cheese. I would also probably add a packet of dry ranch mix to the sauce.
Can you’ll this in the crock pot instead?
HI! I have not tried that with this recipe, but I have with other crockpot recipes. I think it should be great! Let me know if you have other questions. Hope you love this and Merry Christmas!
Can you clarify the amount of butter please? Is it 1 1/2 sticks? Or 1 1/2 cups?
Hey Drew! it is 1 1/2 sticks. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe. Thanks so much!! xTieghan
Which cheese is supposed to be added at which time? You list adding cheese in two different steps but did not specify cheddar or blue cheese. I’m looking forward to trying this out so clarification would be appreciated. It looks delicious!
Hi Lecia! The cheddar should be use first, then the blue cheese second. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
