Giant Chocolate Chip Cookies.
It’s official, this week was unintentionally summer comfort food week, and we’re ending with the best recipe ever…giant chocolate chip cookies.
Two things…
One: nothing will ever beat chocolate chip cookies…unless they are GIANT chocolate chip cookies.
Two: I’ve been in serious comfort food mode, which I find so odd considering the time of year, but sometimes life throws you a curve ball, and sometimes that means you just need to make all the comforting foods you can. You know?
In all honesty, the last week has been one of the harder ones. I have been keeping my face bright on the outside, but on the inside everything is all wacky. I’ve mentioned this before, but I have always struggled with anxiety, and with the death of my grandma + my general constant stress of work related stuff, I think it’s just been a lot…and is taking me back to my middle school days. I always find talking about it really helpful, so instead of sugar-coating things, I thought I’d just be real.
Everyone deals with their own battles and this is totally one of mine. I have found some things that really help though, one of them is just being to talk it out. I’m going to share more tips/tricks that I’ve learned over the years in Sunday’s Nine Favorite Things post, so if this topic is of interest you, stay tuned!
I’m headed back to Cleveland tomorrow for my grandma’s funeral, and while I am sad to be going back to my hometown to say a final goodbye to my Nonnie, I’m also excited to meet a new cousin, Seeley (my grandma’s maiden name), who was born yesterday. Seeley is the 17th grandchild for my grandparents. She was born exactly one week after my Nonnie passed, on the 17th day of August in the year 2017. I would say that 17 is Seeley’s number. I am excited to share a new life with my family.
In the meantime, I really want to talk about fun, happy things. Things that totally distract my mind from all of it’s craziness…
And for me, that is these cookies! Fun, happy, and so freaking good. Addictingly good, but then that’s obvious, right?
As mentioned above, there’s nothing quite like a homemade chocolate chip cookie. I had many of them growing up. My mom was a serious baker and I know I have said this a million times over, but for you newer readers, mom would have dessert on the table before dinner was even started…or decided on.
My friends always wanted to come over to my house for the cookies. I remember my best friend Stephanie and I and literally eating a whole batch one summer afternoon after lacrosse camp (which was a short-lived camp for me…cause I was not a camp goer). And all my guy friends?
They definitely came for the cookies. No one made cookies like my mom. No one.
Anyway, as you have probably gathered, cookies are a thing at my house and always will be.
Oddly, I have yet to share my mom’s perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe (should I? It’s kind of simple…), but today’s recipe is pretty similar, just a lot larger in size!
With back to school time here, I always think about chocolate chip cookies. I always loved when I would come home from school to a fresh batch of mom’s cookies, especially if it was a Friday.
Fun fact about me? Fridays as a kid were my all time favorite day of the week. I looked forward to Friday afternoon like no other kid. Come four o’clock on any given Friday I was the happiest child alive. I had two full days of no school and I was as excited as can be. Friday will forever be the best, and I promise, they’re made even better with fresh-baked cookies…
So today we are celebrating Friday with chocolate chip cookies!
But guys, these are not just any chocolate chip cookies.
Nope, these are giant chocolate chip cookies and they are just as glories as you’d expect.
Think of a chocolate chip cookie, but then double or even triple it in size. Ahhhh…enter all the heart emojis now. Why have a small cookie when you can have a GIANT cookie?!
Crisp on the outside and chewy in the center.
The edges of the cookies turn slightly crisp (only slightly, so it’s good!!) while the centers are doughy, chewy, and basically just all things perfection.
And you know what else? This cookie recipe requires zero chilling. Meaning you can get up from your desk, couch, bed, or wherever you’re reading this (wordy) post from, bake up some fresh cookies and have them ready in just about twenty-five minutes. My guess is that if you are a baker, or even just a lover of chocolate and butter, you’ll have all the ingredients on hand right now.
Okay, after all this chatting, have I convinced you that your Friday night plans should include making these giant chocolate chip cookies?
You know that mine do, alongside a cold glass of milk. Then maybe some dinner…because sometimes that’s just how we need to roll.

Giant Chocolate Chip Cookies
By halfbakedharvest
Course: Snack
Cuisine: American
Keyword: chocolate cookies, giant cookies
A small chocolate chip cookie just isn't enough!
Ingredients
- 2 sticks (1 cup) salted butter, at room temperature
- 2/3 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2-3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- flakey sea salt for topping (optional)
Instructions
-
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment.
2. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter, brown sugar and sugar until combined. Add the eggs and vanilla, beat until combined and creamy. Add the flour, and baking soda, beat until combined. Stir in the the chocolate chips.
2. Using an ice cream scoop (this makes things really easy) or 1/4 cup measure, roll the dough into balls and place 3 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet (about 5 per pan). Gently push down to flatten the balls just slightly.
4. Transfer to the oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cookies just beginning to set on the edges, but still doughy in the center. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool 5 minutes on the baking sheet. They will continue to cook slightly as they sit on the baking sheet. Eat warm (highly recommended) or let cool and store in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
Recipe Notes
*If your cookies are puffy when the come out of the oven, tap the baking sheet on the counter 2 times to flatten them down.
Friday + cookies = a very happy, smiling Tieghan. Have a great weekend everyone!

Awh thank you so much!
Baking was not in the plans for my Friday night, but I think I may have to change my plans after reading this post. These cookies look amazing!
And totally agree about Fridays. As an adult, they are still the best!
Take care and safe travels Tieghan.
Awh yay sounds like a fun Friday to me, hope it was amazing!
Thank you Leanne (:
They look bloody amazing!! I just realised that I’ve never made chocolate chip cookies before… I’m the worst food blogger in the world!
Need to rectify that asap!
xx Alex
Oh my gosh, I love them so I have done many!! Haha! Hope you have fun making your recipe!!
Thinking of you Tieghan–take care of yourself this weekend! Hope it helps your healing a little bit. These cookies seem like the perfect way to celebrate your Nonnie.
Thank you so much Erica! It was a nice weekend!
So sorry for your loss Tieghan. Safe travels back to Cleveland. Nothing helps a sad soul more than a warm chocolate chip cookie.
Your right about the cookies! Thanks Maggie it was a nice trip with family.
Hey girl! Have you done any experimenting in the past to make these GF? I’m so sad I can’t have gluten any longer and the thing I’ve missed the most has been cookies. Just thought I’d ask on a whim! Also, have you ever tried baking with Cassava flour or tapioca? If so, what are your thoughts? Xoxo!
Hi Amanda! I have not, but GF cookies are on my list of to make’s, so hopefully recipe coming soon! I do like Bob’s Red Mill gf flour blend if that helps at all. Thank you! 🙂
Only thing is…how much flour?
Okay so I need five of these in my belly NOW! Your creativity always amazes me, Tieghan.
Thank you so much Leanne (:
Made them asap. But they turned out really tall and fluffy. What did I do wrong?!?
Hi Alison! I have found that over baking turns the cookies puffy. I like to remove my cookies just as they are beginning to set around the edges, but are still a little doughy in the center. They continue to cook on the pan. Hope this helps!
How much flour??
I’m so sorry to hear about your grandma, Tieghan. I hope your visit back home to celebrate her life gives you some solace, even makes you smile in her memory. Thank you for this recipe. Thinking of you, Ardith
Thank you Ardith, my time back there was amazing with family! (:
HOW MUCH FLOUR????!!!!??????
Hi I fixed this theres is 2 and 1/2 cups four. sorry about that.
i didn’t refresh the page -it had been open since the first day so i’m sorry to have asked again about the flour in previous comment. i figured it was approx 2-1/2 cups so i went ahead and made them and they are AWESOME. thanks. warmest thoughts to you and your family?❤️
h wow just answered your comment!! Sounds like you know your cookies, so happy you liked them!! Thanks Karen!
So sorry for you loss. I made these cookies and they turned out really fluffy? Don’t know what I did wrong..
Thank you, Maya. I have found that over baking turns the cookies puffy. I like to remove my cookies just as they are beginning to set around the edges, but are still a little doughy in the center. They continue to cook on the pan. You can also gently push down on the cookies before baking to help them flatten better. Hope this helps!
so sorry for your loss. i hope that you and your family share loads of memories this weekend and that you can feel that your mom is supported and loved
It was an amazing weekend thank you Meghan (:
I am gonna make these tomorrow…yum yum?????….the flour is 2 1/2cups people…cut her some slack instead of asking over and over….take care of yourself ???
Awh thank you so much! Had a lot going on forgot it somehow! Hope you loved them Tracey (:
Hi Tieghan, I’m so sorry to hear about your grandmother. I feel your pain because I’m the same way and I got through the same struggles. Keep mind busy with things that you love to do.
I recommend to experience and value what you are experiencing right now thoroughly. It will help you to go through this difficult moment without feeling that you missed something. Love from your friends at Spoonabilities – Carlos & Geoffrey
It helps to put my mind into cooking and I am sure that helps you as well. Thank you so much Carlos!
Perfect way to celebrate a Friday Tieghan! I’m so sorry about your grandmother. I’m sure it’s comforting for your entire family that she’s no longer in pain and in a better place…where one day you’ll all be together again…eating cookies. Sending hugs your way.
Thank you MAry Ann, it means so much to me that you said that! I am glad she is not suffering anymore as well!
How much flour did you use?
SORRY! I hadn’t refreshed my screen. ..had opened this recipe earlier and didn’t see the updates. My cookies don’t seem to have the lovely ripples of dough at the edges as yours after cooking. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
No Worries!
I like to remove my cookies just as they are beginning to set around the edges, but are still a little doughy in the center. They continue to cook on the pan. You can also gently push down on the cookies before baking to help them flatten better. Hope this helps!
These cookies look wonderful!! I know how you’re feeling… I also deal with anxiety (for my entire life actually), and I understand grief. Hang in there… I think channeling your energy into your passion (cooking) is one of the best ways to cope… that’s what I do, anyway!
Thanks so much Natasha!
My cookies came out tall and fluffy too ?I swear I followed the recipe to a the T.
HI Trisha! I have found that over baking turns the cookies puffy. I like to remove my cookies just as they are beginning to set around the edges, but are still a little doughy in the center. They continue to cook on the pan. You can also gently push down on the cookies before baking to help them flatten better. Hope this helps!
Do I add the flaky salt before or after baking? If its after is it while they are still warm?
I add it just after the cookies come out of the oven. Hope you love the cookies! 🙂
I hope you’re feeling better now, Tieghan. It takes a lot of work to put out all the content you do but always know that it’s appreciated by people like me, your fans.
I am glad you enjoy the content I put out there, it is truly to engage with you guys! Thanks Lori!
I made these too (with flour) and so did my best friend! They came out fluffy and puffy and we followed the recipe exactly! Please double check your ingredient/recipe list and update us!
Hi! The ingredients are all correct. I have found that over baking turns the cookies puffy. I like to remove my cookies just as they are beginning to set around the edges, but are still a little doughy in the center. They continue to cook on the pan. Hope this helps!
These cookies look amazing and I will definitely be making them next week for when the kids come home from school. So sorry for what you and your family are going through. On a totally off topic note – where did you get those glasses?? I want them and would love to see them filled with milk on my dinner table!!
Thank you so much, Kim! I bought the glasses from the below store. I love them!
https://www.quitokeeto.com/
First, these look amazing! And second, I’m right there with you dealing with my own anxiety and constant work stress. I find that one thing that helps me is knowing I’m not alone – although I’d never wish anxiety on even my biggest enemy! I think it helps to feel a little less alone/not crazy. Anyway, I wish you the best and can’t wait to try these cookies!
I am the same way. It’s always helpful knowing I am not along! I would NEVER wish anxiety on anyone either. It’s awful! Glad to say I am feeling better! Hang in there and thanks for the kind words!
My problem with bigger cookies is keeping them from falling apart. Any trouble with these?
Hey Danie, I did not have any trouble with that. Hope you love the cookies!
These look amazing! Going to make them for company coming to visit this week. So sorry for the loss of your grandmother!
I hope everyone loves them, thanks Amy!
Made these for my friend’s neighbor who was kind enough to share his eclipse glasses with us yesterday! He loved them. I loved them. My friend loved them. Her husband loved them and their kids loved them. Huge hit even if mine turned out fluffier and puffier (which auto corrected to pudgier ?). I love the addition of the salt on top of the cookies. Chocolate chip is my favorite and these definitely hit the spot for my comfort food needs during my last month of board prep. Thanks Tieghan!
Yay! I am so happy these were a hit all around! Thank you so much Anastasia!
Tieghan, I’m so sorry for your loss. I only have one grandmother alive now so I know how you feel. It’s tough :-(. We’ve also been dealing with lot of stress lately because we are searching for childcare for my son, we just moved to a new house that has plumbing issues, and my husband started a new job and is working 12 hour days. I think these cookies will make us feel better :-). Plus, chocolate chip is my favorite! Enjoy meeting your baby cousin while she is a newborn. They get so big so fast! I’m sure her parents (is one of your brothers her dad?) would appreciate any freezer meals you could make them.
Just realized….this is YOUR cousin…so she can’t be your brother’s child. It’s too late in the day for my brain to work well.
Thank you so much Amber! Sounds pretty stressful with all the changes happening around you, so I really do hope these cookies help haha! I hope you have a great rest of the week!
So sorry for your loss Tieghan… Tough times..
Thanks for taking the time to share that recipe anyway. You’re a true rockstar.
Thank you for the sweet words Maëva, it really means a lot!
When do I add the salt? Before or after baking? And what if they are more cakey than yours??
I still miss my grandmother so very much–she made sugar cookies every week and shared with anyone who came to her house 🙁 My thoughts are with you…
Hey Anna, I like to add the salt just after the cookies come out of the oven. They should not be cakey, but if they are I am sure they will still be delicious!
I am so sorry about your grandma. Grandmas are truly the best! Sending you well wishes too!
My cookies turned out puffy! They look great but what did I do wrong? The only thing I can think of is I added the baking soda with warm water. Could this have caused them to be puffy?
Hi Teresa, I have found that over baking turns the cookies puffy. I like to remove my cookies just as they are beginning to set around the edges, but are still a little doughy in the center. They continue to cook on the pan. You can also gently push down on the cookies before baking to help them flatten better. Hope this helps!
These look gorgeous! I think people might need a video of exactly how you make these…?
Haha! This could be an awesome video actually! Maybe I will make it!! Thanks Cassandra!
I wonder if these are freezer friendly?
They freeze great! Let me know if you have questions. Enjoy the cookies!
Yes Hope, these freeze really well!
These cookies are amazing & huge!!! Love it. I will try to flatten mine more before baking to get to look more like your photos. Does elevation have to do something with the baking…rise vs, flatter & crisper cookie? Cause your up high in the mountains, I’m closer to sea level? Either way me & the kids loved it! Will make again. & now that you just said can freeze them…Oh Yeah!!!!
…oh, & yes! you should share your mom’s perfect chocolate chip cookie recipe too!
Hey Karen! Yes, the elevation definitely makes a difference and it’s why mine are extra flat. SO happy you and your kids loved the cookie, thank you so much! Hope you had a great Monday! 🙂
These cookies don’t turn out at all as pictured in the photos, which (given the rippled edges) look like they were made using the NYT “crinkled” cookie dropping/slamming technique during bake… The batter is fine tasting but these make a very bready and lofty cookie–if being a mile-high is part of the recipe, the author would be kind to add adjustments for average altitude or at least a note!.
Hi Lynn, I am sorry you had trouble with these cookies. It is very hard to know what went wrong without knowing how you baked the cookies. I have found that of you leave the cookies in the oven a little too long they turn cakey. Again, sorry for the trouble. Let me know if I can answer any other questions. Thanks!
Made these cookies last night. Yes there was extra work with process. But I enjoyed the banging part. I got pretty large crinkly cookies. Thin and crispy on edges and chewy on inside.
Yum! I am really glad you enjoyed these Danielle!
Very details! Very nice!! Very good chef!! Thanks for your perfect recipe :))
Thank you Alex! I am so happy these turned out great for you!
I’ve always love your recipes, but was super disappointed with these cookies. Instead of the chewy inside I was expecting (as the pictures showed) they were totally cakey – and I followed the recipe exactly. Perhaps it was something on my end, perhaps not. Thank you anyhow! Have a wonderful week!
Hi Brenna! I am so sorry these did not turn out well for you. Could I help you figure out what went wrong? Please let me know! Thank you!
High altitude adjustments please 🙂
Hi Emily! These recipes should work great at high altitude as well! I hope you love these!
I was worried after reading some of the comments, but I rolled with it anyways. I ended up baking mine for closer to 16 minutes (which is CRAZY!) and they still came out looking very light colored. I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to like them. Upon first bite I discovered they were the best cookies I’ve EVER made. Freakin crazy good. Everything you want in a chocolate chip cookie- crunchy on the outside, perfectly moist and chewy in the middle, not too sweet, not too buttery… just perfect. I’m not sure what happened with those who had their cookies come out “cakey”, but I did make a second batch of smaller sized cookies (since the recipe is specifically for extra large ones) and the small ones did not come out as well. I think these are just made to be extra large, and they are simply perfect that way. 10/10, these will now be my go-to chocolate chip cookies.
Wow! I am so happy to hear that Rachel! And I am so glad these turned out amazing for you! Thank you!
These are AMAZING and the best chocolate chip cookies I have every made – no contest. My husband and son agree! Thanks for the recipe!
Thank you!
We were so excited about these cookies and my daughters and I made them today. They were caked and fluffy and it wasn’t from over cooking. I checked them at 8 minutes and they were already puffed up! I tried flattening them before putting in the oven and slamming down the pan- still fluffy and Camry! Any ideas?
Hi Hallie! I am so sorry you are having trouble with these cookies. Did you change anything about the recipe? Any info you can give me would be helpful in problem solving. Hope I can help!
First time I followed the recipe exactly baked for only 10 minutes puffy & cakey- made them again the next day and used a little less than 2 cups of flour and they came out much flatter! Still didn’t get super crispy- but they where delicious! Maybe I’ll tey again with less and bake more longer? Not sure what else to try!
HI! Where do you live? that can afffect the cookies. Also, try tapping the pan against the counter when you take them out of the oven to get them nice and thin! Please let me know if you have any other questions. So glad you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Not bad cookies – Cookies did not come out like the picture – the picture looks like the NYT pan banging cookies (which are amazing) but these did not. And baked up a lot quicker than the 12-15 min. These were done more around 9 min.
Hi Ashley! Are there any questions I could answer for you? Please let me know! xTieghan
Ooh! Would love to try this! Since it’s a baking recipe, any chance you can include the measurements in weight? Baking from Europe and I noticed that American recipes don’t always translate well when I do measure by cups. The flour & sugar here are a bit different. Thanks!
Hi Nicole! The best I could do for now would be to convert it using google because I do not weigh my ingredients. I will look into it though! I hope you love these cookies! xTieghan
Hi!
Can I chill the dough in the fridge before baking it?
HI! Yes, chilling the dough is fine. Let the dough sit at room temp 20 minutes before baking. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
love your recipes, and can’t wait to try this one. the posted recipe calls for 2 1/4 cups flour, but comment replies all say to use 2 1/2 cups flour (maybe you’ve tweaked your recipe since those posts from last year??). also, your video mentions adding salt, but it’s not listed in the posted ingredients list. thank you!!
HI! I like to use 2 1/4 cups flour personally and if you are not using salted butter I recommend adding 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I usually love all your recipes but these chocolate chip cookies are not a favorite. Compared to most recipes the sugar amounts, both granulated and brown sugar, are decreased and I thought they lacked sweetness. My own recipe is like the original Toll House cookie but I decrease the flour by 1/8th of a cup and use dark brown sugar and my cookies look like your photos and taste like you describe. But I will continue to enjoy all your other wonderful recipe. I think cookies are such a personal preference …. you always like the one you grew-up with as a child … but it never hurts to try a new recipe!
Hi Kathy! I am so sorry to hear that.. Are there any questions I could help you with? I hope you do love other recipes of mine! xTieghan
Hi I’m new follower. I loved the look of these cookies, so I thought I would try them. I have only one chocolate chip cookie recipe that I use from another blogger. I been trying different ones with no luck. Just made your recipe. My husband and daughter stated they were great because they have a lot of chocolate chips. I agree they were good and I like that they are not too sugary or too sweet. However, I was dying to get that craggily look on the edges. I banged the pan, no luck they don’t look like yours. I’ll keep trying!
Welcome!! I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe and I hope you continue to love others! Thank you so much Yvonne! xTieghan
Sea salt topping before or after oven?
Hey Allie, I like to add the salt as soon as the cookies come out of the oven. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
You say in the comments 2-1/2 cups flour
But the recipe says 2-1/4 cups, which is it?
Hi Steve, I use 2 1/4 cups personally and the cookies turn out great! Some people have needed to use 2 1/2 cups due to the climate they live in, so this is what I am referring to in the comments. I recommend starting with 2 1/4 cups and adding the extra 1/4 cup flour if the dough feels overly wet. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Best chocolate chip cookies I’ve ever had! Definitely be sure take them out early so they have time to bake on the tray, which creates the folds. Took me a few rounds to get it right but the pay off was well worth it. A must try!
Thank you so much Allie! I hope you love these! xTieghan
Hi ! I made this recipe today and it was really tasty ! I’m really difficult with cookies and I struggle to find the best recipe. I found that these cookies aren’t chewy enough… they are too much crumbly or sandy. BUT, they are not too sweet and really soft, they melt in mouth ! So good. However, they don’t look like your cookies.. they are flat and not with “bulges”. How can I improve it ? Thanks for the recipe ! I love your blog:)
Hey Emilie! Would you mind telling me how exactly you are baking these cookies? Are you following the recipe to a T? Are you changing anything? Any details will be really helpful! Happy 4th of July! Thank you! xTieghan
Was my comment published ?
I was very afraid to do this recipe because of some of the comments. I am rarely a cook and don’t even bake but these look so good I wanted some! I even tried another site’s recipe instead after reading the comments because I had bought all of the ingredients and chickened out. And those cookies turned out awful so I came back to make these. I did what the recipe asked including the 2 1/4 cups of flour. I live in Miami and made each batch of 5 at 15 minutes and banged the tray on the counter to flatten them as you noted. Guys….these are the best chocolate chip cookies that I personally have ever had. They looked flat and same color as pictures. Not as wrinkly on the edges but for sure flat, large in size, soft and very yummy.
So glad you ended up trying these Linnette! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Hate leaving a less than raving review, but cookies had a “cakie” like texture, fluffed up and did not “deflate” in the center. There were no cripsy edges …kinda like a pancake ?. Followed the recipe exactly. At first thought it was just me, but read the reviews after I made them. Your picture is so pretty
Hi Heidi, I am sorry you had trouble. Was there anything you did differently at all? Any ingredients different? Method of baking this? Where do you live? Environments can make a big difference when baling, especially cookies. Any info will be helpful to help me problem solve and figure out what might be happening for you. It’s hard to know without knowing any details. Hope I can help you! xTieghan
For some reason my cookies came out puffy and fat. Not thin and crispy/chewy! What did I do wrong?!??
Hi Laura, I am sorry you had trouble. Was there anything you did differently at all? Any ingredients different? Method of baking this? Any info will be helpful to help me problem solve and figure out what might be happening for you. It’s hard to know without knowing any details. Hope I can help you! xTieghan
HI, I made these cookies as wanted to have flat chewy texture. Followed directions except made them smaller. I also tapped them out of the oven to flatten. They are quite puffy and cake-like and I’m wondering what I could’ve done wrong. Dough was too warm to get off scoop so I did chill dough for a few minutes for first batch only.First batch is same as rest of batches. Any suggestions?
Hey Linda, I am sorry you had trouble. Was there anything you did differently at all? Any ingredients different? I am surprised that even after taping on the counter they where still puffy. How long did you bake? I wonder if maybe you remove the cookies earlier they will be flatter? It sounds to me like they just need less time in the oven.
Any info will be helpful to help me problem solve and figure out what might be happening for you. It’s hard to know without knowing any details. Hope I can help you! xTieghan
Hello,
This recipe seems amazing
But can i add cocoa if i would like it to be a chocolate cookie.
Thanks.
Hi Razan, I would not recommend adding cocoa as I fear you will be left with a dry and cakey cookie. Baking is very precise and adjustments like this can greatly affect the outcome of the cookie, so I am just not sure how well the cocoa would work. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Yummy cookies!
I had some trouble with the texture of the cookies at first. I didn’t have parchment paper so I just baked the cookies straight on the pan, and I ended up with incredibly cakey cookies even after I adjusted the baking time. All I could think of that I did different was sub out half the white sugar for maple sugar (which I do often and it isn’t a problem) and I didn’t use parchment. I had one batch of dough left so I kinda did an experiment- 2 cookies on parchment, 2 on aluminum foil, and one straight on the pan. Sure enough, the cookies on the parchment turned out exactly like the pictures in the recipe! The aluminum foil wasn’t far off, but the straight-on-the-pan cookies were super cakey. Anyways, I learned something new today! Thanks for the delicious recipe Tieghan!
I am really glad these cookies turned out so well for you! Thank you so much! xTieghan
Amazing Cookies!!! Made two batches and they were GONE before they cooled down! haha! Thank you!!
Love that!! Thank you Jaya! xTieghan
I made these for a bake sale, and they were a huge hit! Thanks for the recipe 🙂
Thank you so much for trying these Vicky! So glad they turned out amazing! xTieghan
Omg-made these! Always on a quest for a better chocolate chip cookie and this fit the bill! Simple to put together. They were delicious! They were Cakey, which I love! I believe this might be my go to recipe in future!
I love to hear that! So glad this turned out so well for you Carol! Thank you! xTieghan
can you provide the Metric amounts for this recipe! thank you
Hi! The best I could do for you is to google the amounts, which I am not postive if they would be accurate! I am sorry about that. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with! xTieghan
The recipe above calls for 2 and 1/4 cups of flour but below it says 2 and a half. I guess it’s the latter because I followed the recipe and the texture is weird.
Hey Molly! You need 2 1/4 cups flour for these cookies. If you felt the texture was off, try tapping the pan on the counter after baking to deflate the cookies. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
Good evening, what if I don’t have brown sugar?
Hi Rita! I would recommend waiting to make these until you can get some brown sugar. The cookies are best with the sugar. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you! xTieghan
I replaced one of the sticks of butter with browned butter and they made these all the better. Delicious!
Thank you Torri!! xTieghan
Is it 2 and 1/2 Cups of Flour as you have in the comment section, or 2 and 1/4 Cups of Flour as you have in the above recipe? Thanks!
HI Susie, you need 2 1/4 cups of flour for this recipe. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Made these before & they were a hit! Accidentally purchased medium eggs and was hoping to use for the recipe. I should mention I’m also in CO so the baking is always a little different then online recipes…anyhow, do you using M eggs will drastically impact this recipe? Thank you!
Hi Zoe! Using medium eggs will work just great! Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Hi there! I tried this recipe and the cookies were delicious. however, they weren’t giant and thin like I expected, instead remained about the same size and we’re very thick. Is there something I could have done wrong when following the recipe?
Hey Jennifer! Try removing the cookie half way through cooking and banging the baking sheet on the counter 2 times, the finish baking. Once the cookies are baked, do the same thing once more. This will deflate the cookies and keep them thin. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Hi, i like to ask, when mixing all the ingredients, the mixer is in high or slow mix?
Your cookies look really good. Cant wait to try. Thank you for sharing
Hi there! I like to mix the dough oh a medium speed. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
Can you chill this dough overnight if not baking right away? Thanks!
Hi Ana! Yes, that will work wonderfully! Bring the dough to room temp before baking for best results. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
You added salt in the video but there is no salt listed in the ingredient list. I made these without the salt, but I’ve yet to bake them. Fingers crossed.
Hi Anna! Feel free to add some flaky sea salt to the top if needed! Let me know how these turn out for you! xTieghan
I have tried these twice but they always come out way to puffy and cakey, even if I tap the tray ? still good though!! Love all your recipes and I think you are so inspiring. Thanks for all the amazing content you share. 🙂
Thank you so much Kate! I am so happy to hear that! xTieghan
so good but for them to turn out as beautifully as in your picture i needed to flatten them quite a bit! still delicious and so easy to make.
Thank you so much Karyn! xTieghan
What kind of flour could I substitute for gluten free
Hi Deb! I have not tried a GF flour with this, but many people have had success with cup4cup! I hope you love this recipe! xTieghan
I’m confused – the recipe calls for 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour, but in all of HBH replies to the below comments asking how much flour to use, she notes 2 1/2 cups of flours. Which is correct?
Hi Eleni,
Sorry for the confusion, it is 2 1/2 cups of flour, will adjust this in the recipe. I hope you love the recipe! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Can I substitute almond flour for regular? How would I convert the amount?
Hi Rachel! I have not tried it almond flour with this recipe, so I am not sure how it will turn out. If you would like to use it, I would keep the flour amount the same. xTieghan
Hii Tieghan
What if you cant do eggs? Love everything about this but I cant use eggs.
Thank you
Hi Yael,
So sorry but the eggs are an important part of this recipe. I haven’t tested this but some readers recommend apple sauce. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
We made these cookies and they were the best chocolate chip cookies we’ve ever made !! Delicious, moist, and perfect.
Thank you so much Patty! xTieghan
Can I keep the dough in the fridge or freezer for a few days?
Hi Sarah,
Absolutely! Just be sure to bring back to room temp before baking! I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Hey, I’ve just come across your blog & I am so amazed by all your recipes! Great job! I want to try this!
I’m from Australia & sticks of butter here are 500g. Would you suggest using 2 sticks of butter like in your recipe ? Can you suggest an amount of grams please ?
Thank you xx
Hi Amanda! Two sticks of butter is 226 grams! I hope you love this recipe! Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with! xTieghan
Hi! Do you have any tips or changes for making these gluten free? 🙂
Hi Alexes! I have not tried these with GF flour, but if you choose to, I would recommend cup4cup. I hope you love this! Please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Delicious ! But my cookies turned out cackey 🙁 what did I do wrong?xx
Hi Natasha,
Next time try taking the cookies out while baking and “slam” the baking sheet on the counter. This will release the air pockets and flatten them out! xTieghan
Why does the recipe say 2 1/4 c flour and comments say 2 1/2 c?
Hey Kathy, you should follow the recipe and use 2 1/4 cups of flour. If you feel as though the cookie dough is too loose, add an additional 1/4 cup of flour. Please let me know if you have any other questions. I hope you love this recipe! Thank you!! xTieghan
I love cooking (and playing around with recipes!) but I’m much less experienced at baking. I’d been craving cookies and decided to try these, but they failed to flatten 🙁 ! I will follow the recipe more closely next time haha
Hi Genevieve! I am so glad you tried these! Is there anything I can help with? xTieghan
These are pretty good. The brown butter gives a really nice taste. I followed the recipe exactly but mine didn’t come out anything like the photo. Mine were too cakey/fluffy. They still had a great flavor but I was hoping for those crispy edges and ooey gooey center.
Hi Amy,
Next time try removing the pan while baking and “slam” the pan on the counter. This will help release the air pockets and make them more of a flatter cookie. Please let me know if you need anymore help! xTieghan
I just made this cookies and the taste is amazing, but the first batch came out puffy and cakey. When I flattened the second batch, the cookies still didn’t get the crinkles and super flat edges yours have. I tried knocking the pan on the counter and no luck!
I followed the recipe to a tee. Would love to know what I’m doing wrong.
Hi Bea,
So sorry about this, my only tip would be to knock the cookies sheet on the counter several times throughout the baking process. I hope this helps! xTieghan
These are unbelievable! I’ve been inhaling these by the hour😋😋😋 Thank you!!
Thank you so much Sana! xTieghan
I love these cookies, however mine did not get as flat as yours! Also, there is no salt in the recipe, therefore I left it out… they are still delicious though!
I am so happy to hear that! xTieghan
Just made these. Nice and easy. Used chopped cold butter because I didn’t want to wait for room temp. Turned out puffier of course but everyone thought they were amazing! Thanks for sharing with us!
Thank you Heather! I am really glad these turned out so well for you! xTieghan
When do you add the sea sat, for those of us that want to use it for topping. Do you just sprinkle it after removing the cookies from the oven?
Hey Reina,
Yes that is correct:) I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
Do these freeze? As raw dough balls or cooked cookies?
Hey De,
Yes you can freeze them either way. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
These cookies are the best I’ve ever had! They are so crisp and delicious and will become a staple in my house for sure!
Thank you Cassie! xTieghan
So so good. I mean chocolate chip Cookies what else is there to say?
I halved this recipe. I keep rereading the ingredients list and making sure I put 1/2 in. I’m pretty sure I did everything right, but my cookies came out cakey and fluffy. I don’t think I left them in too long? Or that an extra minute or 2 would result in such a different texture. Do you have any idea what might have gone wrong? I loved how crisp on the edges and soft in the middle these looked. And how they flatten out and don’t stay puffy, then I ended up with cookies that thinned out on the edges and browned but fluffed in the middle and are cakey all over.
Hey Audrey,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, I am sorry they did not flatten for you. Next time, pull them from the oven and “tap” the pan on the counter a few times, this will release the air pockets in the cookies making them flatter. I hope this helps! xTieghan
I made these today to make a birthday cake… I quadrupled the recipe, did two HUGE cookies, a ton of cookies the size you suggest in the recipe, and then about 30 leftover tiny cookies to sprinkle all around the “cake” mound haha Then just whipped up some fluffy icing to make a few of them double doozies! What a treat! These are the BEST! Thank you!!! =)
Thank you so much Elizabeth! I am really glad this recipe turned out so amazing for you! xTieghan
Hi! I see that not chilling is required, but if we want to make the dough ahead and bake when ready to eat would chilling or freezing affect the outcome? Thanks!
Hey Anne,
Yes, I would keep the dough in the fridge. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Holidays! xTieghan
Love the cookies! I am curious if you have any tricks to making the cookies flatter and wider? Mine keep coming out pretty thick and dense. Thank you!
Hey Nicola,
Thanks so much for trying the recipe! For flatter cookies, pull them out of the oven while baking and “slam” the baking sheet on the counter. I hope this helps for next time! xTieghan
So delicious!! Absolutely worth ruining healthy-January for! I made a half-batch and used Thomas Keller’s gluten free 1:1 flour and it worked much better than I expected
Hey Kennedy,
I am thrilled that you enjoyed the recipe, thanks for making it! I hope you have an awesome weekend:) xTieghan
Just made these and unfortunately they turned out pretty pillowy and pale rather than crispy with the beautiful ridges. I noticed the recipe calls for 2 1/4 cups flour but in some comments you say 2 1/2 cups, perhaps that was the problem. Do you mind clarifying the correct flour measurement? Thank you!! Beautiful photos, hopefully the next time I make them they do turn out like yours. Xoxo
Hi! Just want to start off by saying I LOVE everything you make. I wish I can make it all! I made these cookies last night but they came out dense so I wasn’t sure what I did wrong. I came back to the website and decided to look at the comments and realized you mentioned 2 1/2 cups of flour but on the ingredient list it says 2 1/4 cups of flour. Just wanted to give you a heads up incase it was wrong. Xo
Hey Jessica,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try, so sorry these cookies came out dense for you. The measurements are correct, was there anything else you may have adjusted? Let me know! xTieghan
My cookies wound up totally poofy even when I tapped them on the counter several times :'( any tips to get that flat chewy crispy-edged texture next time?!
Hey Steph,
I would try the tapping multiple times throughout the baking process. So at 2 minutes, 5 minutes, etc. I hope this helps! xTieghan
One of my favoirte pass times is testing out new cookie recipes and I have therefore made countless variations. My husband and I agree this may be one of our all time favorites! I made mine a little bit smaller (eating more than one just feels more satisfying sometimes hahah) but they are crispy on the outside and the perfect texture on the inside!! The salt on top is my favorite! Thank you!!!
Hey Izzy,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled that it was enjoyed! Happy Valentine’s Day❤️ xTieghan
Some up to show again in Chicago suburbs so decided to make your cookie recipe. They are delish and perfect for a snowy movie day. Thanks for the awesome recipe 😀
Hey Jenny,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am thrilled that it was enjoyed! Happy Valentine’s Day❤️ xTieghan
hi! i noticed in the comments you said 2.5 cups of flour but in the recipe it’s 2 and a quarter. which one should i use? thank you!!
Hey Zelda,
You need to follow the recipe as listed. I hope you love the recipe, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
They are very yummy! But also very puffy. I made sure not to overbake them, each batch I baked for less time to be sure. I also tapped the tray of each batch, and flattened them nearly to pancakes, and still they are puffy. Oh well! They taste good 🙂
Hey Julia,
Thanks so much for giving the recipe a try, I am so glad it was enjoyed! Have a great week:) xTieghan
I made these this week and they were a huge hit! Everyone loved them I will definitely be making these again
Hey Emily,
Thanks so much for giving this recipe a try, I am so glad it was enjoyed! Happy Sunday:) xTieghan
Just made these for my BFF…..recovering from a ski accident!!
Hey Kathy,
Thanks a lot for giving the recipe a try, I am delighted that the recipe was enjoyed! Happy Sunday! xTieghan
Hi! These look so good. I notice the recipe says 2 1/4 cup flour but the comments say 2 1/2. Can you clarify? Thanks!
Hey there,
You will want to follow the recipe and use 2 1/4 cups of flour. I hope you love the cookies, please let me know if you have any other questions! xTieghan
These were a huge hit with me and the kids! Love your recipes. Thanks for posting so many delicious ones ♥️
Hey Renee,
I am delighted that this recipe was enjoyed, thanks a bunch for making it. Happy Sunday! ☀️Tieghan
my cookies were fluffy and didn’t look like this. They also had a bland taste due to the lack of salt in the recipe but then I realized there was salt added in the video but left out of the recipe on here. Unfortunately, disappointing as I did not overcook and was really hoping to have them look like the picture.
Hey Anne,
So sorry you did not enjoy the recipe, I use salted butter which usually makes them flavorful:) I also state in the recipe notes:
*If your cookies are puffy when the come out of the oven, tap the baking sheet on the counter 2 times to flatten them down. I hope this helps for next time!! xTieghan
If mine came out puffier/caliber what did I do wrong? Am I at a lower altitude than you in CO?
Hey Brooke,
Did you try the tapping of the baking sheet on the counter? This will help them to flatten. I hope this helps for next time! xTieghan
I made these last night and they were delicious! I baked them for a bit longer so that they would have crispy edges and wouldn’t fall apart when picked up, but they’re still quite soft in the centre. Would recommend!
Hey Alex,
Thanks so much for giving this recipe a try, I am so glad it was enjoyed. Have a great Wednesday! xTieghan
Is it 2 and 1/2 cups flour or 2 and 1/4 cups flour?? I made it with 2 1/4 and they didn’t turn out as pictured:(
Hey Emma,
The recipe calls for 2 1/4 cups of flour. Sorry these did not turn out as expected? What was wrong with them? Please let me know if I can help in anyway! xTieghan
I’ve tried these twice and each time they’ve come out really puffy, any tips? Thanks!
Hey Julianna,
Thanks for giving the recipe a try! Do you bang the sheet pan on the counter? This usually helps to flatten the cookies. I hope this helps! xTieghan
I love all your recipes!
Specially baked goods. This one is perfect, for our gloomy days out in Cali.
I Just made a batch of these delicious chocolate chip cookies. So easy and just soooooo enjoyable. Thank you Tieghan for this recipe!
Hey there,
Thanks so much for making this recipe, I am so glad you enjoyed it! Have a great weekend!! xxTieghan
