And I’m back with yet another Christmassy cocktail. Some of you may find this drink a bit odd…not sure. But what I am sure of, is that even though this is not your traditional margarita, it’s delicious and so fun! Because let’s be real, who doesn’t dream of a snow filled Christmas with a yummy drink in hand?!

OK fine, I guess there are probably a lot of you who may not prefer a snowy Christmas. But around here, everyone wants the snowiest of Christmas’. We all wish for a snowstorm every Christmas Eve…and before…and after. I can’t control the weather, so I figured I would guarantee some snow, with an extra “snowy” cocktail. I’ve been dying to make this margarita for months now. Inspired by my White Christmas Mojito, I wanted to reinvent that snowy cocktail into a margarita!

Enter my Christmas Snowstorm Margarita. It’s made with tequila, a splash of coconut rum, has hints of citrus, and is just a little bit coconutty. Oh, and with a bit of sweetened coconut milk…

Kind of tropical, but yet so wintry at the same time. I love it!

Here’s how you make this.

Instead of using a simple syrup in this margarita, I sweetened up the coconut milk with a touch of honey (you can also use sugar). I find it easiest to warm the coconut milk and honey together on the stove, then chill. All you need to add is a touch of sweetness and this margarita will be perfect. Simply use more or less honey (or sugar) to your taste.

Once the coconut milk has chilled, mix it with the tequila, coconut rum, orange liquor, and a squeeze of lime. Then just pour over ice and top with sugared cranberries, for an extra festive touch.

Delicious!

This will be the perfect Christmas Eve drink for our family gathering. They all seem to love a good margarita, so I have no doubt this will be hit.

Oh, and those sugared cranberries? While they’re not an absolute must, they do add that special touch (and sweetness) that I think all holiday cocktails need. Highly recommend you make a batch soon. They can also be used to garnish drinks, desserts, or just to enjoy as a snack!

The Recipe

Christmas Snowstorm Margarita

Silver tequila mixed with a splash of coconut rum, orange liquor, a touch of citrusy lime, and sweet coconut milk. Finish these snowy margaritas off with sugared cranberries for a pop of festive red color.

Prep Time 10 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes
Servings 1

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup unsweetened coconut milk
  • 1-2 teaspoons honey or granulated sugar, adding more or less to taste
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1/2 ounce coconut rum
  • 1/2 ounce orange liquor
  • juice of 1/2 lime
  • fresh mint, for serving
  • sugared cranberries, for serving

Instructions

  1. 1. Bring the coconut milk and sugar to a simmer over medium heat in a small saucepan. Simmer 1 minute, then remove from the heat and let cool. To quickly chill, add a of couple ice cubes.

    2. Fill a cocktail glass with ice.

    3. In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, coconut rum, orange liquor, lime juice, and coconut milk. Shake to mix. Strain into your prepared glass. Top with sugared cranberries and mint.

Recipe Notes

If you are using canned coconut milk (which I prefer), when you pour it over ice it will curdle up a bit if not stirred. It's still delicious, but you need to give it a stir before drinking to mix everything around again. And if you make the the pitcher margarita, just be sure to give the batch a good stirring before you serve. The coconut milk can separate from the liquors as it chills.
