Buffalo Oven “Fried” Goat Cheese
Hello perfect Superbowl snack!
Or salad topper (um, I totally did this for dinner last night! Buffalo fried goat cheese, buffalo chicken, avocado, french fries, broccoli. Oh and ya know lettuce + spinach!), or quick bite from the fridge, or as a compliment to your Sunday morning eggs or even as a late night cheese craving!
This buffalo fried goat cheese is goooood. Like really, really good. I mean they’re fried goat cheese, rolled int buffalo sauce. And it’s not just goat cheese in those cute little balls of deliciousness. Nope, I added just a tiny bit of blue cheese crumbles because in my opinion you can’t do anything buffalo without some blue cheese! But, if for some crazy reason blue cheese is not your thing don’t worry, it is totally optional. Oh and the best part – they’re not really fried! Nope, I baked those suckers to golden cheesy perfection! So you know, you don’t have to feel so bad about eating straight cheese (I mean cheese has it’s place on the food pyramid) and buffalo sauce (great for keeping colds…and flu at bay)!
When I was making these I had one thought in mind………Superbowl Sunday!
Yes, I know, the Superbowl is not until February 3rd, but with the holidays over, the Superbowl is the next best thing! Gotta have something to look forward to, you know!
But in all honesty, I know absolutely nothing about football! Well, except the fact that the Denver Bronco’s just had a huge upset last night. I mean, what the heck they were the number one seed in the NFL…crazy! Guess I know a little more than I thought – to many guys (I am talking family) in my life!
Anyway, the Superbowl means lots of bite size foods and a whole lot of buffalo sauce. Oh, and for most people probably a whole lot of beer! I mean, we are talking about a football game here.
Oh and guys, these are quick and easy! Just roll your cheese, pop in the oven to “fry” and toss with your buffalo sauce. Done. These can even be prepared ahead of time and either eaten at room temperature, warmed back up the in the oven for just a few minutes or even straight out of the fridge! Just a note about the blue cheese. If you do decide to use it (um if you like blue cheese this is a must!) I must note that they are a bit more crumbly than if you were to just use goat cheese. When the blue cheese is warm it does not hold its shape as well the goat cheese. But if you let the balls cool and serve them cold or at room temperature they hold their shape pretty well! And the they are delicious hot, room temp or cold!

Buffalo Oven “Fried” Goat Cheese
By halfbakedharvest
Course: Snack
Cuisine: American
Keyword: buffalo sauce, goats cheese
These snacks are gooey, tangy, fried and delicious
Ingredients
- 10 ounce goat cheese log make sure this is very cold
- 1/2 cup blue cheese crumble (optional see note)
- 2 whole eggs beaten
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup butter melted, 1 stick
- ½ cups Franks Red Hot
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- Fresh Greens To Serve
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat, set aside.
-
If using the blue cheese place it in a medium size bowl and add the goat cheese. Using a fork mash the blue cheese and goat cheese together. Using your hands roll the cheese mixture into 24 balls and place on prepared baking sheet. If you are not using the blue cheese just slice the log into 24 pieces and using your hands roll each piece into a ball. Place on prepared baking sheet.
-
Lightly beat eggs in a small bowl. Fill a plate or shallow bowl with the breadcrumbs. Dip the goat cheese ball in the egg wash first. Roll it around so it is completely covered. Then drop them into the panko breadcrumbs. Toss the breadcrumbs onto the ball and gently roll to coat. Place back on prepared baking sheet. Repeat until all 24 ball are coated.
-
Place in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden and crisp. Allow the balls to set for 5-10 minutes before tossing with the buffalo sauce.
-
While the goat cheese balls bake, make the buffalo sauce sauce. Combine in a medium size bowl: melted butter, hot sauce and seasoned salt. Whisk with a fork until combined.
-
Once the goat cheese balls have cooled off a bit, use a fork and dip each ball in the buffalo sauce covering completely. Drip off any excess buffalo sauce and place back on the baking sheet. Once all balls have been tossed with the buffalo sauce, place them back in the oven for five minutes.
-
Remove from the oven and let sit for 10 minutes, please let them sit! You don't want them to crumble. Remove the balls from the pan and serve alongside greens and any extra sauce you have for dipping.
-
These are very delicate and crumble easily, but the taste is awesome!
Recipe Notes
*Just a note, if you use the blue cheese the balls will be a little harder to handle when warm. The blue cheese melts more, while for the most part, the goat cheese holds it shape. With that said, adding the blue cheese is delicious and once the balls sit out for a few minutes they firm up and are much more manageable.
Buffalo oven “fried” goat cheese……Yes.

YA! Make sure you seen my note about the blue cheese if you use it. The balls are just a little more crumbly if the blue cheese is used, but very delicious! Enjoy!

How long are these good for once made? I’m thinking these will be a good way to get hubby to have salads more often…
Honestly, I am not sure they we gone to fast for me to find out. I would guess about a week. They were so good atop our salads! I think you will really enjoy them!
Oh wow that does look so good! I need to try this!
I love anything with Goat Cheese and anything with Buffalo sauce …these sound delicious! One question though, where do you get Frank’s Hot Sauce? I never heard of it. If I can’t find that one in particular, is there alternative that you recommend? Can’t wait to try the recipe. Thanks for posting!
You can get franks pretty much any where. I buy it by the gallon at Costco, but I also can find it at Target, Walmart and the Grocery Store. If you can not find it, any hot sauce will do (not a flavored one though, just original). Good luck finding it and let me know what you think!
Wow, these sound so incredibly amazing! Thanks for sharing.
I just tried them, but they completely melted to flat nothings! next time I try (which will be soon), I will pop them in the fridge or freezer for a bit before baking. …but the meltedness did not stop me from peeling the flattened cheese off the baking sheet and eating it as is.
I wander why yours melted. Did you use a lot of blue cheese? I am glad you stil liked them!
I followed the recipe exactly, but I left the goat cheese out on the counter for a little while to soften to make it easier to mix (I don’t have great dexterity unless utensils have giant handles). I think it will work if I pop them in the freezer for a few before baking (like skinnytaste’s mozzarella sticks, if you’ve ever tried them). The flavor was awesome, though, so I’ll definitely try again soon!
Oh my gosh I love this! I love that it’s baked and not fried. Can’t wait to try it!
And I spot a sierra nevada pale ale!
Tried to make these for the Superbowl. Followed your directions to a T and wound up with a hot mess. I baked them for the minimum 15 mins and when I opened the oven they were completely melted. I’m going to try again but this time I’m going to bake for maybe 10 minutes or less and keep a better eye on them.
ps when I took it out of the oven the taste was wonderful, I didn’t want to throw it away so I put it all in a food processor with some buffalo wing sauce and blended into a tasty dip! 🙂
Nice Save!! I wander why yours melted, do you use a lot of blue cheese? Also was your goat cheese really cold? Thanks for giving them a try! I hope next things will work better!
I used 1/2 c blue cheese. The cheeses were not refrigerator cold but they weren’t room temperature either. Do you think that might have been the problem? Also, I think I’ll double coat them in egg and bread crumbs. Maybe that will make the breading a little stronger.
I just finished making these. I also ended up with a melted mess. I began with very cold goat cheese, no bleu cheese. I followed directions exactly. We just drizzled the hot sauce over the top and ate them with a spoon! They were delicious, but so not pretty.
Oh, man! I am so sorry you ended up with a cheesy mess!! I wonder what happened. I have made these multiple times without any melting, but a few people have said theirs melted! Such a bummer!! I am glad you still enjoyed them though!! So sorry you had a hot melty mess of cheese, but at least it was yummy, melty cheese! Sounds good to me. ha
instead of blue cheese try adding chopped up
Jollapenos awesome
YUM! That sounds awesome, thanks for the idea!
Mmmm….I love cheese and goat cheese and blue cheese and fried cheese. And you are drinking my favorite beer. Even though it’s blurred, I recognize that label…
Thanks Heather!
Just thought I’d let you know, via the butterfly effect, this recipe has changed my life. Thanks for posting it 🙂
Yay!! Thanks so much, Frankie!
Thank you for being considerate enough to add an option without blue cheese (I am allergic to it) and I have to alter almost every “buffalo” recipe I find
Just made these…followed the recipe exactly but mine also melted! 🙁 I did drizzle the cheese pancakes with the buffalo sauce and still ate them though! Tasty, but my next attempt I will let them sit in the freezer for at least 15-20 before baking and hope for the best!
These look so delicious! I’ve baked ‘fried’ many different things over the years in panko and they never get the colour like you goat cheese did. The picture you took look like you deep fried them?
Nope, just baked and covered in buffalo sauce.
Sigh. Mine also ended up spreading all across the pan. I used really cold cheese, too. I scraped it all together and the taste was good, but it’s unfortunately not something I’d ever be able to serve.
I just made these for the Super Bowl and they turned out perfect! I did not use the bleu cheese though….and I used whole wheat panko. I did have a few flatten out a tad but not much. Not only did they look fabulous…..they TASTE WONDERFUL! Thank You!!!!
SO happy you loved this recipe! It is one of my favorites! 🙂
I have Italian bread crumbs – would that work?
Yup!
Sorry for the late response! Yes they would work!!
